Tim: Can you proofread this for me?
Barbara: Sure, what is it?
Tim: A list for Bruce of things he shouldn't say to Jason.
Barbara: He ask for this?
Tim: No, I just think he needs one.
Barbara: Smart man. So what brought this on?
Tim: After being stuck in the nightmare realm with Jason, I've had moments of "Bruce should not have said that to him."
Barbara: Yeah, I've had those moments a lot.
Tim: Hence where you come in. My knowledge is pretty much limited to what I learned in the nightmare realm. Out of us, you're one of the people who knows him best.
Tim: Speaking of, you know where Dick is right now? I wanna give him a copy too.
Barbara: Good call, being raised by Bruce has made him rather fluent in communication issues. He should be here soon.

Batfam incorrect quotes because I like to:
Bruce: Alfred, what do I do?
Damian: This is an issue...
De aged Dick: I told you I didn't want little siblings! D:<
De aged Jason, crying under a table with a batarang: I DON'T WANNA BE KIDNAPPED!
De aged Tim, staring at Bruce with big, wide eyes: :o
De aged Stephanie, tackling Dick:
ā€”
Bruce: Alright, until Zatanna can get here, you're gonna need to be on your best behavior.
Stephanie: I want my Mom!
Stephanie, kicking Bruce's shins:
Bruce: I am so glad you're not my kid.
Dick, staring at a Nintento game card: Why's the game cartridge so small!?
Bruce: Oh, yeah, I forgot you grew up in the 90's... Um...
Tim, trying to eat said game card:
Bruce: Timothy Jackson Drake, no!
Tim, dropping it quickly and posing like a startled Red Panda: :o
Alfred, holding Jason by the scruff: Sir, master Jason attempted escape again.
Jason: I'm telling my Dad on you! He'll beat you up! MY PARENTS ARE GONNA CALL THE COPS ON YOU! JUST YA WAIT, THEY'RE GONNA BE HERE AND TAKE ME AWAY FROM YOU FOREVER!
Bruce: Hrn, maybe I should've talked to Jason more about his birth parents when I got him...
Alfred: No Father is perfect, sir.
Stephanie: MY MOM SAYS EAT THE RICH!
Stephanie, taking a bite out of Bruce's hand:
ā€”
Bruce: Look, I turned on a movie!
Dick: . . . Why is THE LION KING IN REAL LIFE!?
Bruce: It's live actionā€”
Dick: KILL IT!
Tim, lifting a camera up slowly and snapping a picture of Bruce from a corner:
Bruce: !? Tim?! Where'd you get a camera!?
Tim, dropping to all fours and quietly crawling along the shadows to leave the room:
Bruce: . . . What?
Damian: Father, permission to be a tad bit suspicious of Tim's humanity?
Bruce: He didn't have any when I met him, now I think he might not be human.
ā€”
Jason: I'M IN A BATMOBILE AND YOU'RE NOT!
Bruce, trying to open the door frantically: Jason Peter Todd get out of that car right this instance!
Jason: TAKE ME HOME!
Bruce: Jason, please, I'm not trying to kidnap you.
Jason: I WANT MY MOM!
Tim, popping up from the back seats to climb into the passenger seat and snap a photo of Bruce, desperately struggling to get inside the bat mobile:
Jason: WHERE'D YOU COME FROM!?
Tim, shrugging:
Jason: . . . YOU'RE WEIRD!
Dick, running around in Stephanie's Robin uniform: BATMAN, NANANANANANANA!!!
Stephanie, squealing as she swings Tim's bō staff around:
Damian, chasing after them both: ENOUGH, BOTH OF YOU! YOU ARE ACTING CHILDISH!
Jason, crying: I want my Mooooom.
Tim, turning on the radio, gasping when it works: :o
ā€”
Dick, glaring at a laptop: That's not normal. Why'd you flatten the computer?! WHAT IS THAT THING ON IT!?
Bruce: It's a laptop, and that's internet, and I'm trying to contact Lucius to inform him neither Tim or I will be there for work today.
Damian: Must I go to school? This seems like a family emergency.
Dick: I don't wanna go to school either!
Tim, dropping from an air vent onto the floor, landing face first like a limp rag doll:
Bruce: OH MY GOD!?
Tim, coughing once before picking himself up and snapping a picture of Bruce:
Bruce: . . . I need to get Tim tested.
Damian: For?
Bruce, watching as Tim waddles away: Everything.
ā€”
Stephanie: This place is to big, my Dad would never let me stay at a place this fancy.
Jason: We're being human trafficked!
Stephanie: I dunno, that guy hasn't tried anything.
Jason: Them why do you keep bitin' and kickin' 'im?
Stephanie: I just like to.
Tim:
Jason: WHERE DID YOU COME FROM!?
Tim, lifting up a blank, thick, white binder, flipping it open to reveal page after page of pictures of both Bruce and Batman, as well as Dick and Robin:
Stephanie: What's that?
Tim: Batman.
Jason: YOU CAN SPEAK!?
Tim: . . . Wanna hear me talk about Batman?
Stephanie:
Jason:
Both: Sure.
Tim, big gasp: :O
ā€”
Dick, swinging from a chandelier, singing: WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!? WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!? WOOF WOOF WOOF!
Bruce, sipping from a mug of coffee: I'm glad I got those reinforced...
Tim, taking a picture:
Bruce: . . . Are you hungry?
Tim:
Bruce: You... You haven't eaten.
Tim:
Bruce: . . . Alfred, can you contact Cass? She might be able to communicate with Tim.
Alfred: Right away, sir.
ā€”
Cass: Hi, Tim.
Tim:
Cass: What am I meant to do?
Bruce: Communicate with him..?
Cass: . . . How?
Bruce: You know body language better than I do.
Cass: He seems neutral.
Bruce: I don't think his facial expression has changed once.
Cass: What?
Bruce: Unless blinking counts.
Tim, looking at Bruce: I know what you are.
Tim, waddling off:
Cass: Why was he scarier as a child?
Bruce: The only one who wasn't terrifying as a child was Tim.
Jason, running through the halls with a bucket on his head, right into a wall: Oof!
Bruce: . . . And Jason.
ā€”
Stephanie: You're pretty.
Cassandra: Thank you.
Stephanie: Why is there so many boys here?
Cassandra: Men usually have a harder time dealing with complex emotions and so are more likely to turn to violence to cope, hence why Bruce became Batman. As for Tim, Dick, and Jason? They ended up with Bruce and inherited his... Coping mechanisms.
Stephanie: . . . What?
Cassandra: . . . Want to go hang out at our girls only club?
Stephanie: YES!
ā€”
Babs: Permission to ask?
Cass, braiding Stephanie's hair: No.
Stephanie, eating a king sized Hershey bar, looking like Kirby as she opens her mouth to consume it whole:
ā€”
Bruce: Alright, I had to bribe Alfred with a months vacation, but...
Bruce, putting down two big bags of McDonald's:
Dick: MCDONALD'S!!!!
Tim, snapping a picture:
Jason: Is it drugged?
Bruce: No more than Gotham's food usually is. I got you a Wonder Woman toy.
Dick: I WANT SUPERMAN! :D
Bruce: You got Superman.
Jason: Hm . . . Bribe accepted, but only because if you try to hurt me I'm gonna tell the cops your Batman and get you arrested for forever.
Bruce, knowing damn well Jason hates the police and ain't no snitch: That's fine.
Jason, digging into a bag instantly:
Tim:
Bruce: Uh...
Bruce, slowly lifting a French fry between two fingers:
Tim, eating it from Bruce's fingers before waddling away:
Bruce: . . .
Dick: Wait, isn't that our neighbor?
Jason, lifting his toy in the air: WONDER WOMAN!!!
Dick: Wanna make her fight my Superman!?
Jason: HELL YEAH!
ā€”
Bruce: Alright, Zatanna will be here in an hour. Thank god.
Dick: Is she gonna make us grown ups again?
Bruce: Yes.
Dick: YAY! NO MORE SCHOOL!
Jason: But I like school! Can I still go to school as a grown up?
Bruce: Uh... Of course, Jay, lad.
Jason: YES! EDUCATION! I can't wait to graduate again! :D
Bruce: uhhhh...
Tim: I ate the game card.
Jason:
Dick:
Bruce:
ā€”
BONUS:
*Tim and Bernard, sitting in a hospital room*
Bernard: How'd you get a Stardew Valley Nintendo switch game stuck in your large intestine?

Thereā€™s something inherently painful and poetic about the idea of Tim mourning that he was not chosen to join the family but clawed his way in vs Bruce finding comfort in the idea that one of his children chose him during his darkest moment.

Love the idea of Tim being the only one who can actually lie to Bruce, but have you considered Bruce who always knows Tim is lying and justā€¦ canā€™t get himself to do anything about it?
Hear me out, arguably these two are the most similar if you ignore certain concepts like being an orphan and (in most universes) seeing death at a young age. They are both raised in rich wealth in a big, lonely house (yes even with Alfred there he was still a teenage boy with no siblings or parents), both have critical thinking minds and insatiable curiosity and have reputations for being players and are both CEOā€™s and owners of massive companies.
So when Tim lies to Bruce, two things happen.
One, he canā€™t help but feel like a hypocrite because how many times did he lie to Alfred? Or even Dick and Clark? Heā€™s still doing it! Bruce is a secret keeper and when you have someone whoā€™s just as good at you at lying, in some ways better, itā€™s hard to feel confident in calling them out.
Two, he wants Tim to be more than him, to not be so bitter and lonely as he was because Tim had actual friends and half of his lies are for his friends or to spent time with them (even if thatā€™s in the middle of a fight). When he sees Tim stare at him unflinching while he lies about stealing a bio weapon, all he sees is his little boy trying to cover that he was hanging out with his friends doing something naughty.
Bruce sees a cat giving him wide eyes and a little purr with claws still digging into his wrist and folds like a napkin.
He badly wants his son to be honest with him about things, but since he figures it out so quickly, he can convince himself Tim is telling him just in aā€¦ overly complicated and deceptive way!
When the others notice it drives them insane.
Then thereā€™s the third reason, the one he canā€™t admit to himself, which is how guilty he feels for making Tim talk him out of suicide and murder at just thirteen years old.
The part of him that knows that Tim has still spent more time being a parent for Bruce than Bruce has for Tim.
The part of him that knows heā€™s failed all his kids, but he used Tim.

does anyone know of any fics where batfam or maybe even just tim or bruce realizing how codependent the two of them are (tim and bruce)
like i KNOW its not canon but like it just seems like such good angst tbh
those fics where tim disappears for one reason or another? almost always have bruce atleast half put together and figureing it out. i want a story where tim goes mia like he did for brucequest again, the batfam upset but still functioning because he did it in the past. they were ready to deal with this, but bruce? they werent ready to deal with bruce. his emotional support child is gone. he cant figure out how to fix it, hes panicking under his calm face and his family can tell.

I need Tim Drake car guy and motorcycle guy back.
He has a collection any supercar you can dream of, his Christmas and birthday presents are multi-million dollar cars. If it's going fast he wants it. Bruce can't even argue, because let's be honest he didn't have to have a Batmobile, that bitch wanted it.
Tim and Bruce restoring, rebuilding any car or bike they can.
Some nights Gotham gets to watch Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake race through the city going so far above the speedlimit it's insane. Their supercars make appearances constantly because they refuse to not drive them. You better believe if they both pull up to a red light on the way to work, oh god.
They are breaking the sound barrier to beat each other to Wayne Enterpises.
On more than one occasion Batman has raced Red Robin's Ducati all the way to the Batcave.
Nevermind Tim and Jason doing the same.
At least once at week you will see Red Robin and Red Hood weaving through the Bowery all the way to Diamond distract for about a hour.
But nothing beats when Nightwing and Red Robin start they will go all night, until both their tanks are empty and bikes practically falling apart so much they need a pickup from Batman who skips patrol to follow them just incase something happens.
He won't stop them.
Nothing will ever make Bruce happier then listening to his kids giggling, cackling and full of smiles riding an adrenaline rush while flying through the night.
And any speeding ticket Tim ever gets is paid by Bruce.
It's so dangerous, and Bruce does worry but he has never seen Tim happier then when he's behind the wheel going at a speed the flash would balk at.

COMMUNICATION BITCH
no but seriously, i've seen a whole lot of people bitching about how bruce was being an 'abusive parent' in the latest episodes but people tend to forget how trauma affects so many people in so many different ways. yeah b should go to therapy, and yeah what he said to his kids was not okay, but that doesn't make him abusive and not fit to be a parent. he's doing the best he can and he's trying to protect them. i'm just glad he finally explained it and i'm glad that he's starting to communicate more.

Tim follows Bruce's rules perfectly. In this way, perhaps, he can be better than his predecessors. He knows from observation that Jason liked to ignore the rules and argue with Bruce, and he can guess from what he knows about Dick that he was the same. Tim canā€™t afford to ask questions, or argue with Bruce, or break the rules. He has to be perfect. Too much is riding on it. If he messes this up and gets Robin taken away from him, he doesnā€™t know what will happen to Bruce. If heā€™ll slip back into his old ways and walk along the edge between life and death.
Because the thing is, Bruce is getting better. Heā€™s not the same Batman he used to be; he buried a piece of himself six feet under with Jasonā€™s body, and Tim doesnā€™t think heā€™ll ever get it back. Still, Bruceā€™s decisions in the field become more logical, and he can recognize when to go home and tend to his wounds now. He even invites Tim to stay for dinner after patrol once, but Tim knows a courtesy invite when he sees one, and politely declines.Ā
Outside of the suit, Bruce keeps himself at a distance at all times, and Tim is grateful for it. It certainly makes it easier to remember that this is nothing more than a business partnership.Ā
Dick is a little harder to keep away from. The older boy has a way of making Tim feel relaxed and safe around him that heā€™s never experienced before. Dickā€™s smiles make him feel warm inside, and Tim knows that the laid-back personality and dad jokes are a front that he puts on, yet he still canā€™t help but look forward to Dickā€™s visits to Gotham. He almost feels like an older brother, but Tim scratches that thought out of his brain the second it crosses his mind.
He realizes abruptly that heā€™s gotten too comfortable with Dick, and forces himself to withdraw. He keeps an eye out for the little things that tell what Dick is really feeling, like the flash of sadness in his gaze that he quickly hides whenever Tim does something that reminds him a little too much of his lost baby brother, or the way he freezes up any time he has physical contact with Tim while heā€™s in the Robin suit, or how he holds his breath for a fracture of a second whenever Tim is even slightly in danger. Tim learns to look for these signs, and holds them like barbs around his heart to prevent himself from overstepping.
Surprisingly, Tim finds it the hardest to keep himself from growing attached to Alfred. The butler is more compassionate than Tim ever could have expected, and it gets increasingly harder to keep him at a distance. Heā€™s kind, and caring, and says exactly whatā€™s on his mind (itā€™s very amusing to witness him put Bruce in his place and stay perfectly polite while doing so).
Tim pretends not to notice the way Alfred checks him for injuries after every patrol (with a med-kit waiting just in case), and sneaks extra protein bars into the various pockets of his suit whenever Tim gets low, and always has a steaming mug of the best hot cocoa in the world waiting after the particularly grueling patrols. Tim knows better than to accept Bruceā€™s pity-invites to dinner, but heā€™d never waste a mug of Alfredā€™s hot cocoa. (As long as he drinks it quickly heā€™s not overstaying his welcome, he justifies it to himself.) He ignores the sad looks Alfred gives him when Tim makes excuses to rush home straight after patrol rather than hanging out, or when he easily brushes off the older manā€™s concerns regarding his dark eye-bags and alarming coffee intake.
He keeps them at a distance at all times. They donā€™t want you, he tells himself, they need you. And thatā€™s enough. It has to be. He canā€™t get attached to them because he doesnā€™t deserve to have a relationship with any of them; he hasnā€™t earned it. And if (when) being Robin gets him killed, they wonā€™t be hindered by the inconvenience.Ā
Tim knows he isnā€™t the best option for Robin, and some days that fact looms over his head more than others. He isnā€™t even a good Robin, anyone would have been better than Tim. Heā€™s still actively fighting against brain fog every day, and he has to write things down constantly so that he wonā€™t forget them, and sometimes at 3:00AM when heā€™s trying to finish his case notes and on his fourth coffee the sleep deprivation and migraines just feel like too much.
When it gets really bad, he reminds himself that nobody else stepped up.Ā
He might not be a good Robin, but heā€™s the only Robin that Gotham has right now.
So he sucks it up and finishes his case notes. He ignores the headaches and exhaustion and goes to school the next day anyways. He doesnā€™t bother Bruce or Alfred with the minor injuries that come from patrol. He stitches himself up at home and tries not to get blood on his motherā€™s expensive rugs.Ā
When it feels like too much, he keeps going, because there is no other option.

I think the "Bruce is a good dad" convo misses out on how different children can get different dads even when it's the same guy.
Jason doesn't get the same dad. When Bruce flings Tim over a disagreement, it's a sign that he's worse than before and somethings up. When he does it to Jason, it's a Tuesday.

Imagine.. Bruce lecturing with Tim about not going out on patrol because it's too dangerous at that time and tim who was being silent for most of it suddenly shouts, "You just don't want Robin to die. You don't care about Tim." And he genuinely believes it. Bruce is absolutely worried about Tim but he stared at the memorial case instead of the little boy or called him Jason or watched tim in mourning one too many times and he doesn't know how to fix it. Whilst Bruce gets lost in his mistakes Tim rips off his mask and storms out of the manor.
Bruce thinks that this is the straw that breaks the camel's back but Tim knows he'll come crawling back not even expecting an apology no matter how much he wants one.
I love miscommunication it's my favourite genre of whump.

The Drakes Spoiled Brat (im sorry dad) has updated!!
Name: As above Rating: General Audiences Chapter: 3/?? Word count: 10,329 Relationships: Just batfam and a few outside dc connections, not ship focused Summary: Tim as Red Robin post time stream and Batfamily breakdown dies on a solo mission, only to wake up in his time 13 years in the past. Only a month after the Graysons death. Tim develops Cardinal, a new underground Vigilante even the bats see as a mere shadow of the night. and "Timothy Drake" aka an asshole version of "Brucie Wayne" to prevent people from looking below the surface. But theres only so long he can keep up the ruse before people get suspicous and begin to draw their own conclusions. So Tim now must overcome life alone, with his now ex family just next door. (Will have shenanigans and eventual Happy ending dont worry)

During a Gala for raising awareness about womenā€™s healthcare, a few heroes show up in both costume and civilian persona.
Wonder Woman is proudly walking around in a Greek style toga and talking about how the women of her home land care for one another and never doubt each others word on health issues. She is shamelessly challenging the men in the audience to better understand the women they claim to love and advocate for.
Sheā€™s the most obvious one in attendance, though if you look closer you will see Raven and Miss Martian talking with a the most obviously sexist group of men and making them all sweat bullets.
Others, like Zatana and all of the Bat kids, are in their civilian uniforms.
The most important guest in this line up, in the sense that her husband is making Bruce pout like an angry kitten, is Dinah.
Because Dinah is there to make a speech so naturally her husband Ollie is there to support her.
Yet when the speech is done and the wandering around begins, Bruce watches as Ollie hangs around one person like theyā€™re old pals.
Tim Drake, Bruceā€™s most professional son during public events, is laughing and clinging to Oliver Queen like heā€™s some kind of celebrity or cousin he only gets to see once a year. The blond man had his arm around the younger Luke a parent and is chatting away with Tim as the two half talk with business partners and other socialites or so obviously just between themselves that the other people politely leave them to it.
Bruce had never seen Tim so relaxed at a Gala, the growing young man usually taking the time to go full business and organise meetings, deals or just the usual routine of holding reputation.
Yet there is Oliver Queen acting like theyā€™re old friends.
Like Tim is his son.
Naturally, Dick and Barbara notice how Bruce is glaring at Queen and trying to hold back a frown of genuine hurt and jealousy. Part of them feels bad, but Tim and Oliver Queen are both made for this world, so it makes sense they get along in it.
But then Diana, who doesnā€™t mean any harm and is just talking to Bruce Wayne about how she approves of his work on the ecosystem casually leans down and whispers to him as Batman, ā€œItā€™s always so nice to see how those two get along.ā€
Bruceā€™s eye twitched a little and he doesnā€™t bother trying to feign curiosity and grumbles out, ā€œexplain.ā€
Wonder Woman laughs loud and cheerful, which the room is now sued to hearing and jsut assume Brucie Wayne is trying to flirt with an Amazon which is not at all surprising.
ā€œOh, Bruce. Havenā€™t you noticed how Tim follows Jimā€™s round whenever they are at the tower? Heā€™s like a little duckling. One time I heard him asking if Ollie wanted to come to his school event to see his science project!ā€
She goes on to talk about how Ollie must seem like an uncle to him and doesnā€™t pay attention to Bruceā€™s internal spiral.
By the end of the night Bruce looks like he might start crying, though only his children can see that.
Tim and Ollie finally make their way towards him after having a talk to some older woman about something or rather and Bruce puts on a mask quickly, acting as if he isnā€™t about to strangle Oliver Queen as they get ready to leave.
Dick steers Damian away and asks Duke to get the girls and wait in the car, knowing full well Bruce is going to embarrasses himself.
Rather quickly, Tim picks up on his distress and pulls away from Ollieā€™s side hug and approaches Bruce, ā€œIs something wrong?ā€
Bruce smiles a terrifying thing, full of teeth and hidden malice, ā€œNot at all. Tell me, when did you two get so buddy buddy?ā€
Oliver pales a little, but luckily Dinah is there to stop him from saying the wrong thing.
With a smooth voice she speaks, coming forward to press a kiss to Timā€™s head and then back to her husband, ā€œTim and Ollie met at one of the Drakeā€™s charity events years ago. This really was lovely, but we must be going, I donā€™t trust the younger kids to bot cause you or with Captain Marvel.ā€
With that there gone while Bruce is faced with the fact that Oliver may ah e met one of his babies before him.
But Tim isnā€™t a fool and he loves his dad, so he hugs Bruce around the waist and clings to him like heā€™s ten instead of twenty two. He leans back just slightly and gives a cheeky grin with a softness in his eyes, ā€œI love you, dad.ā€
Dick coos while Barbara snaps a photo as Bruce squeezes his son and somehow manages to not cry.
