I really want to see a more fucked up version of Charlie in canon. Like, okay, I am a die-hard for sweet bubbly girls in media. But I always see how some people make Charlie actually, oh I dunno... demonic? And it's so refreshing for her type of character. I could honestly see her having low empathy (and we kinda see this with how she handled Angel's situation or even Vaggie's nervousness about taking control on an activity). An exploration of that trait (if it was intended) would be interesting to see for a protagonist, especially when her main goal is about helping others. I would love to see her actually have a level of difficulty in understanding others' feelings from the other residents, sinners, and even her father.

But give her a fucked up side. Not a "she gets more power when she's angey uwu", but a "oh, she's a little fucked in the head". It would give so much to her character that she just doesn't have.

@/murmurmurena (don't wanna bother them so slash there we go) has some fun ideas with Charlie. I highly encourage people to check their stuff out! So many fun dark ideas with her character while also still keeping to her canon personality pretty well! Personally, I think Charlie being a bit more naive to her own messed up traits would work best but her also being aware of these traits can make for some interesting character for her.

THIS FIC, "A Game Between You and I". RIGHT HERE WITH THE FIRST CHAPTER. A bit of spoil for the fic here: but I love how they handled Charlie’s absolute ignorance as to why the idea of Russian roulette is horrifying to Angel Dust. It doesn't feel like her being intentionally malicious or aware that she's the odd man out here. This is also a pretty old fic going by only the pilot, but the point still stands that it was such a fun take for her character!

Charlie is one of my favorite characters in the show in part of the POTENTIAL she could have as being the most bubbly sweetheart character while also being the most messed up character in the show. I can't say I have strong confidence with the show's writing and fully expect them to stick with Charlie being the "nice girl but oh no, don't get her angry or she gets scarwy". Which isn't bad for a character mind you, there's just so much more potential to Charlie outside of that trope, especially when you get into the theories of her either being a doll, Roo's biological daughter, or what have you. And for the MAIN CHARACTER of the show, it would be not only interesting but also bring the spotlight back to her.

There's really no question that the side characters steal the show, particularly all the male characters. If I'm honest, Charlie does not feel like she gets a lot of love from the show itself when she's supposed to be the main character. She feels far more flat compared to the rest of the characters (again, the male cast in this "female-lead" show has more depth than most of the female cast currently. I wouldn't be pointing this tidbit concerning the genders of characters if it weren't for the fact Viv defended Helluva's lack of development with their female cast by saying "Hazbin is a female-lead show and Helluva is a male-lead" and Hazbin ended up with it not feeling female lead (to me) and the male cast just completely stealing the show. I don't normally care about gender stuff, especially since I do personally lean interest towards male characters. But using one show as a defense for poor development of the female characters, and then that show not really holding up with no very interesting well-developed feeling female characters irritates me. It's just very clear that these shows don't seem to care much about the female cast :/)

If you like how Charlie is written that's totally fine. PERSONALLY, I just think they're missing so much opportunity with her character by just making her the standard female character type. I honestly don't have a lot of faith they'll actually do something with Charlie's character though. She's a pretty static character in S1 being the same from start to end. Not changing or learning anything to create any development. What does the end of season Charlie do that start of season Charlie wouldn't do? Fight back? Because we see with the pilot (which is the “first episode”) that Charlie does fight people if pushed like with Katie Killjoy and even Valentino. Static characters can work in media depending on the show or their role. But Charlie is the MC of a show about “bettering one's self”. So to have her as a static with not a lot of strong dilemmas for herself (like we see with Angel Husk Al and even Vox) seems silly. Plus, considering Hazbin is telling a whole story and it's not a fun episodic thing, characters are expected to grow on some level. Or else, what was the point of their hero's journey?

I’ll defend Seeing Stars with my life because we do actually need to see the silly/goofy. We must witness stolitz playing off each other and supporting each other and enjoying each other outside of sex in the present. We have to have the sweetness to balance out their angst so that we are compelled to root for them going forward. It’s not just fluff or filler it is necessary.

If it were about Blitz, I guess it could work? Blitz is basically selling his pride, dignity, and life to Stolas in order to get the book to the living world. It would be disgusting and cruel, talking about a victim like this and saying he "sold his life" to the person who's abusing him, but in a way, it would be tragically accurate.

But it's used against Stolas...? Why?

Stolas did everything but "sell his life". Before this line, Ozzie talks about how Stolas "had a smoking wife, a daughter too". But he still does? And even if Stolas "lost" Octavia and Stella like Ozzie said, he clearly doesn't care.

During Loo Loo Land Stolas neglects his daughter, not giving a damn whether she's happy, just using the day as an excuse of sexually harass Blitz. He only comes to realize his wrongs when Octavia literally runs away to cry about how she feels like her father doesn't love her. He makes a half-assed apology that Octavia has to accept, and all is well! Except it's not, because in Season 2, this happens AGAIN.

Octavia once again runs from her home and her father, this time because he was too busy getting a hate boner while arguing with Stella to give a shit about spending time with his daughter. He doesn't even apologize this time! Loona comes up to Octavia and gabs to her about how she should give her father a pass because he's just a poor, rich, abuser who doesn't know any better and is "trying his best".

Even more confusing, why should Stolas care about "losing" Stella? He hates her, she hates him. They can't stand each other and want to be rid of one another as quick as possible, so shouldn't Stolas "losing" Stella be the best thing that's ever happened him?

Not to mention, Stella acted abusively towards Stolas. Whether you agree with that choice for her character, she still yells at and throws things at Stolas. What would he "lose" from cutting off an abuser like her? If anything, he would thrive even more than he does if he didn't have Stella breathing down his neck like she does. Besides, if he divorces her, he keeps most of the important stuff (money, power, etc.) so even if he did "care" for her he's still well off without her.

And that leads to my biggest point: even if he loses Stella and Octavia, HE DID NOT "SELL HIS LIFE". NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.

He's still rich and powerful, plus he has powerful friends/connections. He can still have whoever he wants. He can still command others through either manipulation, force, or magic. He can still abuse those he deems lower than him.

Stolas can do whatever he wants. Stolas didn't sell his life for shit.

-being the pastry chef of the hotel he visits you every night he gets off work to enjoy a cinnamon bun and some coffee.

-he tips you generously and is your best customer.

Stolas

-he met you when he entered your shop to try your macarons and fell in love with your food (and you too!)

-he set you up to make your food at the palace and paid you a good hourly wage to just cook up pastries. He encourages you to branch out your cooking to others to gain a name for yourself.

-his favorite pastry is obviously a macaron. He likes the pastel ones.

-he could send someone to get his food from you but he goes out of his way to visit you personally to get his snacks. He brings Octavia with him so she can pick some snacks she likes. She enjoys danishes.

besides the way The Circus was some of the most heavy-handed and embarrassing woobification I've seen, I think it's honestly hard to argue that Season 2 is anything other than Viv's transparent attempts to make Stolas more sympathetic

like if there was a checklist called Fix Stolas' Flaws (and make him the 'real vicitm') it'd probably go exactly how the season has gone so far:

> he cheated on his wife? make Stella more than just a rich bitch who's angry, make her outright evil and abusive. Now Stolas cheating on her is not just the lesser of two evils, but the fandom can say he should have cheated on her more! (never mind that she was also forced into the proposal) > he coerced Blitz into sex and has been sexually harassing him all season long? make it so Blitz came onto him first and Stolas actually 'loved' him at first sight (even though the scene itself contradicts that defense, none of that excuses the full moon deal and Stolas never behaved like he had any genuine affection for Blitz in season 1 until episode 7 suddenly made it happen. actually just - just don't rewatch season 1, it's fine) > he neglects his daughter and is terrible at noticing when she's upset? have Loona lecture her that Stolas is trying and she should be happy with that (even though Stolas will continue to neglect her for the rest of the season, he never learns squat and the upheaval in her life is all his fault) > Striker points out Stolas treats Blitz like a plaything and the ruling class regularly abuse imps? have Fizz, the most biased party ever, tell Striker that anyone pointing this out is somehow just as bad as the royals themselves. also did we mention Striker smells and is unsexy now? and is a supremacist, even though the show has no intention of showing where that's the case? > the fandom still thinks Stolas demeaning Blitz should be addressed? retcon in a bunch of offscreen phone calls to establish how totally nice Stolas treats Blitz and frame Blitz as just having cynical hangups about him being royalty. also Blitz yells at him for no reason and is mean. if you keep insisting Stolas has done nothing wrong eventually someone has to believe it, right?

And the worst part of all? We haven't even reached the stuff we saw in the leaks, with Octavia blaming Blitzo for everything and then being seemingly pained as the one in the wrong for going no-contact with her father.

Oh okay then!

He's surprised but quite happy at this revelation.

He's also a mage, and while every demon can do magic to an extent, the actual techniques to learn most arts are coveted by certain circles. The only exception are overlords granted powers upon reincarnation. Either way Stolas barely ever sees let alone interacts with other magic users.

So upon discovering the fact you knew and practiced magic before death. He's immediately intriqued, asking all about it. Whether or not your powers were granted or there from birth, How they work, What you like to do with them and of course he loves seeing you use your powers.

After his curiosity has been sated a little, he... well we all know he loves to ramble on about his interests. And while with a bit of time it's easy to grasp the basics of botany, Magic is a lot more complicated, Blitz just kind of tunes it out even though he tries, and Octavia is just starting her magic training.

So he starts rambling on about it all to you, unintentionally of course but he subconciously just feels more comfortable about it with you. You notice it but don't mind, having had no one to discuss magic with either for a long time you welcome it, and start asking him about it actively and making sure to listen, which makes him happier then you could imagine.

One thing he really likes to do with you after discovering it, is mix his magic with yours. It's a very intimate, and powerful technique if used agressivley, generally only done with romantic partners and other learned loved ones. He had never done it, considering... you know but when he does it with you, he just melts.

The spell gives a glimpse of the other person's thoughts and feelings, and being able to literally feel all the love you have for him just makes him a blushing mess in your arms.

He loves you so much.

Blitzo

Oh another Magical Hottie? He's down.

He's familiar with magic of course, i mean his other partner as well as his daughter know magic and he himself has learned a bit from using Stolas's grimoire so he's far from weirded out, surprised of course, but cool with it.

But unlike Stolas, he knows nothing about the complexities, so his questions are a lot more wild guesses? He honestly thought you might have been a sinner who got magic due to ruthlessness like The Vs or Al to which he ain't upset at the idea. He would be impressed if that was true.

Also he of course asks what you can do in bed with it, and no he doesn't mean a card trick.

Depending on how you were treated in life, he'll have some buisness to take care of.

Honestly just watches you in awe if he ever sees you kill with it, probably would run up to you and kiss you after it's over, whispering sweet nothings into your ear and calling you a beautiful badass

He runs on like one braincell most of the time so he might ask for a bit of help with stuff, like if he misplaces one of his horse figures or something, you honestly saying you should just teach him these spells but you never do, he just likes seeing you do it.

He is always impresed by every bit of magic you use, mnot matter how much he sees it.

Had to apoligize profusely when you glared at him for buying a pointy hat, assuming you'd like it, though you both laughed it off

Overall he doesn't care too much, he think it's cool and might make fun but cares more on how you treat him and his loved ones, and if that comes with some magic he's good with that.

Loona

Oh she is interested, in every part.

Her favorite top has a pentagram on it, this girl loves magic. And while officially she's just a receptionist, she's generally the one who handles the grimoire plus she knows how to disguise herself so she's a bit of a mage herself.

While she is very curious about how being a witch is, she's someone who understands how it is to be treated diffrently when you don't want to so she'll generally let you talk when you feel like it.

Eventually will ask for help with some magic stuff if she feels like it's needed. Like asking for help on memorizing spells, and asking her step dad or sister feels daunting to her.

Will totally get you witchy fashion from Stylish Occult if you like that stuff.

One time asks if familars are a real thing, getting the response that she is kinda your familar, a deep and intended to be life long bond a witch has with someone special and she just becomes a blushing mess from that.

She likes it a lot, and is very happy to learn about that side of you, but overall loves you as before

wanted to share some ideas about the future s2 eps

Okay so we already know 6

.207: We know it will feature mammon. I think it'll be an ep with more fizzarolli backstory, how he got hired, meeting mammon and ozzie etc, plus some Blitz stuff.

.208: Maybe a stolas, octavia, or loona episode since they're the characters that give the most Moon vibes. And full moons have to do wtth wolves so maybe a loona and octavia Girl trip ep?

.209: I have no clue. The emoji makes me think of Beezulbub, but I don't think she'll be appearing again yet. So other than that, it might be an episode about apologies? I actually got nothing for this one haha.

.210: again no clue. I've seen people have the idea of a haunted house job for IMP, and how possibly sinners get to hell or something? Again no idea.

.211: the emoji wants me to think of Satanas, the sin of Wrath. Maybe an episode with him/her? But idk how well that would fit in with "mastermind". But it might make sense since S1 introduced two sins, so S2 might as well. (If this is true, than it'll probaly mean we'll get Levithan, sin of envy, and Belphegor, the sin of sloth, in s3)

.212: Probaly a hell version of Christmas. Interesting but no clue actually other than that.

The one thing I’ll say about the leaked episode without spoiling anything. They had no idea what to do in this fucking episode and it’s so messy and disorganized. This is why people say the writing is a fanfic, the bad kind. There’s really good fanfic out there I won’t deny they’re existence, unfortunately hb doesn’t fall into that category. So much “to this to that, to this to that and than this happens” it’s contrivances and coincidences that move the plot instead of being organic and following continuity. Matt stone and Trey Parker go into detail about story beats that should be mandated to watch on good story telling

Yep, pretty much. I have a whole rant saved in my drafts for when the episode officially drops, but I do mention the “fanfic” thing a lot, because this episode REALLY signifies why we call Viv’s shit a fanfic in the first place, not because of homophobia, but because she desperately wants these wild filler plots to happen for no rhyme or reason even if it makes no sense, doesn’t add anything, or lacks buildup. The other big issue is that she would rather take more runtime/dedicate screen time to said wacky filler plots, rather than focusing/developing on the actual characters themselves and their relationships.

For example, Seeing stars had ONE scene with Octavia and Loona talking about her dad. What was most of the episode that surrounded that? Stolas and Blitz dicking around and getting stuck at a studio. Unhappy Campers had ONE small scene of Barbie blowing up at Blitz and Millie blowing up Moxxie. What was most of the episode that surrounded that? A murder mystery plot where Moxxie and Millie dress up. Ozzie’s has Stolas and Blitz’s confrontation, what was most the episode that surrounded that? Blitz stalking Moxxie and Millie and Ozzie singing a song about how Mox needs to use Lust.

Scenes that should be VERY important to the plot/characters always feel sidelined and like an afterthought, because you’re using the amount of screentime you have to dick around, and it’s the same for Oops. The majority of the episode is dedicated to Ozzie and Stolas sitting around, and Blitz and Fizz arguing over petty stuff that has nothing to do with their conflict. Viv’s got so much nerve to call this a “character driven” show lol because she puts the plot BEFORE the characters every single time.

I decided to watch helluva boss and imma do 2 separate posts for seasons 1 and two (why did I write it like that…?)

Season one

God I love this show. The writing is way more my speed than Hazbin hotel on Amazon, I enjoyed the writing in the pilot, but once Amazon took over the humor just didn’t really land for me, and tbh the plot took over and I started focusing more on that, and in general I’m more partial to the rapid fire YouTube dry comedy and this sentence is a friggin mess- I found HB SO FREAKIN FUNNY

Dude when he goes “FUCK, a new hole” I lost it

These are just my kinda lines, I don’t know how to explain it, I was wheezing all throughout the season

The music OH LORD when I say I’ve listened to stolas’s lullabye, lulu land, cotton candy, and house of ozmodius like 100000 times I’m… exaggerating but like you get the point the music here is friggin fantastic I also really like how a lot of the music is diegetic, I think that’s a fun touch. I don’t remember whether this is the case in Hazbin, but in this one it was like… I don’t know, it made sense that they were singing when they were singing… am I articulating myself well? I don’t care, iykyk if not, no prob

The animation is great, Viv loves them spinny shots and I am here for it. The amount of genuinely amazing action scenes is super impressive, and even the chill scenes have a ton of personality

The voice acting might be what steals the show for me, idrk anyone’s names cept Alex Brightman but BLITZS VA NEEDS AN AWARD, also slight tangent but I don’t know what it is with stolas’s va but he sounds a lot like a bird in the same sense that Gary Oldman sounded a lot like a bird in Kung Fu Panda 2, what is it that casting directors recognize in actors that screams bird?! Because both of these men are just SO BIRD DOES ANYONE GET WHAT I MEAN moving on, Ozzie’s voice was also effing PERFECT it slid silkily over me like… silk butter or smtg it was the perfect lust voice, I loved it. Everyone else was also great, but they were extra great.

It was also just so fun? Like in hazbin there’s very little just… shenanigans to enjoy, nothing wrong with that because it’s not that type of show, whereas this season is jam packed with them. Like I’ve heard that everyone hated episode 4, but like I don’t know I loved it😆 I just found it to be good old fashioned chicanery, and I liked the chaos and stupidity of it, made for some entertaining TV. This story engine is just mad entertaining for me.

I also enjoyed the writing of most of the characters (Millie, Moxxie, Loona, and Octavia still leave a bit to be desired imo, but whatever, they can’t all be winners and there’s nothing wrong with them) Blitz kinda reminds me of a Barney Stinson type character, which I really enjoy, and I also really like how his boss persona kinda infects everything he does while simultaneously being what’s screwing him over, his nature is kinda like a snake swallowing its own tail, which is tragic and beautiful, and Stolas compliments him well by being, not an enabler, but… I don’t know a clever way to say this… Stolas is a wreck in the best way and he just works. He’s short sighted, like extremely so, like how he thinks sleeping with Blitz will fill his emotional void so he does it but it just drives them further apart so it’s like he’s in a hole and in order to get out he’s gonna dig to pile up dirt so he can climb out but he’s an idiot and that’s a stupid idea and I loved his whole arc. Very enjoyable stuff drama.

Kinda random but whoever Viv’s foli artist is also deserves an award, the sound effects in this show are pristine and it’s incredible (yes I’ve seen the scene where the gun sounds go off a few seconds too late, and yeah, mistakes happen, but every bone crunch sounds and other stuff like that being so enunciated in an indie show is extremely impressive)

Anyhoo, very fun, very emotional, nice to look at, very funny, yada yada- altogether great season 1.
