My Thoughts on Hazbin Hotel (A Short Rant)

Hazbin Hotel went from a really fun idea about redemption and found family to what now feels like an angsty gay alt teen writing fanfic about their grudge against going to church every Sunday (saying this as a once gay alt teen who didn’t like going to church).

I just can’t help but mourn its potential. I liked Hazbin Hotel and I LOVED Helluva Boss when they first came out but now neither feel any different from angsty oc fanfiction that Viv might have a planned ending for, but doesn’t know how to fill in the gaps or properly tell its story.

This is also completely leaving out how horrid production is and the weekly controversies against Viv that come out on YouTube like it’s the Tonight Show.

No hate to Hazbin or Helluva enjoyers, a part of me still really enjoys both but I just can’t get myself to consume its media anymore.

It’s genuinely hilarious how much of an afterthought Octavia is in Stolas’s mind. I didn’t watch the latest episode cuz I’ve completely given up on the show, I’ve just seen a post, but you’re telling me he said out loud he’ll rather be dead without Blitz by his side and his daughter heard him!!?. (Even if it was a soliloquy) the fact that he thinks that is just soo sad in a bad way. “Stolas cares about Octavia” MY ASS. Him saying “what about my daughter when his powers were taken away at the end and all of his fans just ate that shit up LMFAO be fr.

Helluva Boss' Racism is Hollow & Nonsensical - Helluva Boss Critique

Racism is a sensitive and mature topic, to talk about not only in the media we consume but in general real life, with many news outlets covering it, the effects it has on everyone, and the many reporting of racism in the world.

Now those of you are wondering, 'why am I talking about this?' Well this relates to today's topic in which I'll be discussing Helluva Boss' portrayal of racism, and my problems with it. 'Why am I talking about this?' some of you are thinking. Well due to the recent episode of 'Full Moon' on Season 2 Ep 8, specifically these lines said by Blitz to Stolas, towards the end of the episode: "Treat me like one of your butler Imps. You can just dismiss me like that! I mean you royal fucks think you can do this every time! Like you can just play with our feelings because we're smaller and not as important!"

While this line is incredibly well delivered by the voice acting, it falls flat on it's face through the writing from the previous episodes and the world building as well, it doesn't hit as hard as intended from the writers.

It Started Off so Good (Season 1):

Surprisingly, the world building wasn't all that bad, it was pretty decent (but not perfect, as I'll explain later) at the start of the series, with Imps and Hellhound racism.

This is shown with how Stolas treats Imps, by him looking down on them through his demeaning comments to Blitz calling him; little bitty imp, my impish little plaything; and even calling other imps racist comments, 'littler ones' referring to Moxxie and Millie, 'tiny wrath ring imps' to the Imps in the Harvest Moon Festival.

Aside from making racist comments, Stolas does other things, such as pinching Blitz' cheek, using his horn as an ashtray, ignoring Blitz comments on how he says his name and finally but most importantly of all, coercing Blitz into having sex with him in exchange for having the book, to keep his job.

They even show that Hellhounds are considered bottom of the barrel, with Millie's rude comments towards Luna, referring to her as a 'Hellhound' rather than saying her name, or referring to her as Blitz daughter to her parents.

However, as the series goes on there are examples of the racism in Helluva Boss being incredibly inconsistent throughout the show.

It Slowly goes Downhill:

Surprisingly, the problems start off in Season 1, where many of the Sinners that hire IMP, aren't even racist towards them, while hiring them. They just talk to them as a customer instead of the Sinners looking down at them condescendingly, making racist remarks about them, being shocked that imps are starting a business, or even opposing to the idea of imps starting a business; whether they hate the idea of imps rising up to power by starting a business since it goes against the societal norms of Hell or they feel like the business of IMP is flawed. The idea of sinners being stuck with the same person that got them killed is something that should be called out in universe, but it isn't. Another good point I forgot to mention, is that no one is even put off by Blitz, hiring and adopting Loona. A Hellhound as his daughter, giving her a job and Blitz treating him incredibly well. None of the sinners/clients, none of the Goetias (Octavia & Stolas), and not even Moxxie, Millie (who was quite racist to Loona) and the other Imps in Hell find that weird and unusual. This would establish to the audience that Imps and Hellhounds are the lowest class of hell, by how they're treated by much higher classes in Hell. The problem is that the writers use sinners who have died moments ago that ended up in Hell, such as Mrs Mayberry, Loopty Doopty & the Camp Counsellor. Instead of using Sinners who have been in Hell for years, and have been exposed to how Hell works, being racist towards IMP, Loona as a entitled customer, Blitz has to bear being mistreated and get used to it for the sake of his company and those around him.

A Snowball of Problems starts:

Before we go onto Season 2, there are massive problems. We need to address the elephant in the room in Season 1, more specifically in Episode 8 of Queen Bee, where Beelzebub the embodiment of Greed is dating, Tex, a Hellhound. Now the reason as to why this is bad, is because that no one in the show even bats an eye to it, Loona doesn't, the other Party goers don't, this doesn't have consequences of Tex talking about his relationship to Bee, such as rumours spreading from those outside the party within Hell and effecting the lives of Tex & Bee. But some of the defences may say, "Beelzebub is the sin of Greed and she's overindulging in her sin, by dating a Hellhound." If she was to overindulge in her sin, she would be eating copious amounts of food and drink, not dating Tex, someone who is a part of the lowest class of Society. She would represent her sin Greed, instead of being stupid and breaking class rules, that would possibly get her into some really serious trouble.

The weirdest part is that in the previous episode 7 called 'The Finale', where Fizz & Ozzie call out Stolas for dating a lower class Imp. Ozzie telling him, "he sold his life for a thrust" as well as Stolas worryingly glancing around at the guests in Ozzie's, worrying what will happen now that people know that he's been sleeping with an Imp.

(Side tangent: But how does Ozzie & Fizz know that Stolas has been sleeping with Blitz, just because they were seen at a club, that doesn't mean they were sleeping with each other, yeah they were at a club for lust, but .)

This problem spirals out of control, in Season 2 Episode 3, where Moxxie's Dad, Crimson, is introduced as a Mafia Boss in the Greed Ring, working with Loan Sharks.

Many people have pointed out their grievances with this idea, the reason is because that it's been established by Striker back in Season 1 in the Harvest Moon Festival, where Striker learns that Blitz, an imp, is leading his own business:

Striker: "Boss huh? *Meets Blitzo for the first time* Oh! So you're the bold imp that started his own killing bizz!" Blitz: "Yeah well when you're good at something, you should capitalise!" Striker: "Not many imps start their businesses on their own, that's impressive sir! *winks at Blitz*" Blitz: "Oh? Yeah, it is, I guess, I guess it is, isn't it!"

This scene gives exposition to the audience that imps running their own business is rare and uncommon in the realms of this Hell, to the point where it's considered 'impressive' by another imp, for his own species to lead his own business.

So Crimson, an imp, is able to run a mafia with ease, undermines the idea of imps and hellhounds being the lowest class in Hell, as he is a Mafia Boss and being able to lead a gang of sharks with ease without any problems. Since none of the Sharks goons express any racism towards Crimson, cause he is their boss or other imps, like Blitz, Millie & Moxxie.

The fact that Millie and Blitz are not shocked about Crimson, an imp, leading a Mafia or even mentioning it once during 'Exes and Oohs' is really weird, they don't talk about how he came into power or wonder how an imp was able to lead on a gang of Sharks into obeying him without any troubles. Even more unusual, is that Moxxie doesn't even talk to them on how Crimson became a Mafia Boss. Honestly, I'm surprised that Striker, didn't make a comment on Crimson being a Mafia Boss when he and Crimson met for the first time.

Speaking of Striker, let's go onto Season 2 Episode 4, 'Western Energy.'

The Snowball of Problems Gets Bigger:

This problem grows bigger in this episode, where Stella, a Goetia, who is supposed to be racist towards imps, right next to other royalties and blue bloods, is willing to pay a imp to have her husband be assassinated. It gets even worse that she's willing to pay him extra just to have him tortured. It's even worse when you take Blitzo's line from Full Moon: "I mean you royal fucks think you can do this every time! Like you can just play with our feelings because we're smaller and not as important!"

This line doesn't hit as hard as it should due to imp racism not being showcased throughout the show, the most we get it from was Stolas talking down against Blitzo. Cause the imps get treated well throughout the show, they can have jobs, they can get their own homes and are even IMP are paid by Sinners. They're even allowed to build their own families, if an imp couple would like to do so, as shown with Millie's parents. It's even worse with Hellhounds, when you consider that Vortex is allowed to date Bee, the Sin of Gluttony, or without any kind repercussions from Satan nor Asmodeus dating Fizz (since that information is now public, from FIZZ & MAMMON episode).

In Conclusion:

The racism in Helluva Boss, is hollow, due to the discrimination towards imps, not being shown in the show at all, from the Ars Goetia, to the Seven Deadly Sins, to even the Sinners who have lived longer within Hell.

Stolas what the actual FUCK do you mean "when have I ever talked down to you?" Did I fucking hallucinate all the times you've referred to Blitzo as "my little imp" Was Blitzo supposed to suddenly realize that all your insistent sexual advances towards Blitzo that he was only accepting so he could keep his fucking job were suddenly romantic advances? Why is the show trying to treat Stolas like he's "the bigger person" when for 99% of his relationship with Blitzo he's been the one playing the role of instigator? Why does the show try to make Blitzo feel like complete shit when the entire original point of his character is that he feels like shit because he's treated like shit. You're telling me that NONE of the DOZENS of people know his history? Trauma isn't an excuse but do you REALLY THINK that all of these people would still behave in such petty and cruel manners towards Blitzo is they actually knew how he felt? Do you ACTUALLY THINK that these people would be 100% in support of Stolas as the "freshest ex" if they knew that Blitzo fucking Stolas was the only way he'd be able to keep his fucking livelyhood??

This show is doing all the right things for the wrong reasons. I don't think Blitzo is in the right at all, but I cannot STOMACH the way the show is treating him like he's the bad guy when he's been through so much shit and NOBODY FUCKING CARES. NOBODY CARES ABOUT HOW HIS MOTHER DIED IN A FIRE THAT EVERYONE BLAMES HIM FOR??? NOBODY CARES ABOUT HOW STOLAS'S BOOK WAS THE ONLY WAY BLITZO WAS ABLE TO MAKE A LIVING IN THE FIRST PLACE??? Absolute fucking insanity. This show sucks.

Man, i sure to love Stella being once again portayed as dumb to hype up her brother!

AND more incestous comments from Andrealphous, lovely! Haven't they learned from the first time he did that? I don't even think it was done on purpose to show that he was gross like that or anything, rather then it just being a "quirky" thing he just does.

Anyway this episode sucked, Stolas shows up to play hero and is completely okay with lying instead of admiting he had infact coerced Blitzø, just to have this cool moment of him sacrifing himself.

(and to of course make Octavia suffer once again because this show much like with Blitzø does NOT give her a break when it comes to her father)

The scene with her hugging her mom was pretty bittersweet, even if it was just to show Stella smirking evily to show how evil and bad she is or whatever

Okay now to talk about something more positive, the scenes between Blitzø and Loona were actually so sweet :(

i wish we could have seen more of them, i don't think we really got to explore their dynamic enough, and i'm really sad since their father and daughter relationship is one of the reasons why i had stuck around for this show besides Octavia and Verosika (before they butchered her character).

They all deserved better

Believe it or not, this whole scene can be a good parallel to what *specifically* went down with Blitzø and Verosika

Because I highly doubt, with what we know, this is the first time Blitz verbally lashed out at someone he had feelings for. And I have suspicions Stolas wasn't the only person was "thought so very low of" from Blitzø.

This is the very core of our main protagonist, everyone. The very weakness that has pushed so many people away from him to the point of them having resentment. Blitzø carries his insecurities as if they are his literal scars. They remind him how much he has ruined lives and relationships (whether or not it was even his fault.) Everytime he pushes someone away it ends up biting him in the ass. The very first time he did this, it caused a LITERAL fire, resulting in Blitz losing his best friend, sister, and mother. The second time, he chooses to max out money out of his own girlfriend's credit cards for horse riding lessons. And now this...

Everyone is talking about how hurt Stolas was from Blitz's words and this is actually important. Blitz made him out as if he was indeed a monster, and was just using him for his own gain and couldn't give less of a shit about him. However, no one so far has mentioned this could be the same hurt Verosika carries.

She definetly fell head over fucking heels for this imp- SERIOUSLY SHE HAS A TATTOO OF A HEART WITH HIS NAME. Despite being of lower class than her, Verosika couldn't care less about that. Like Stolas, Blitzø was probably the best thing that ever happened to her. Someone she cared about the most. Yet, like Stolas, Blitz refused to see that. To her, a succubus no less, it was only about sex. Cause who could seriously give a shit about someone as insignificant as him. So he pulls that stunt with her credit cards, a fight has possibly ensued, and he has left Verosika bitter and heartbroken. Because like Stolas, she did not realize he would think so low of her when she thought so highly about him. Its so easy for Blitzø stans to think of her as a bitch instead of a deeply hurt person..

Controversial opinion: I don't like Stolas and I don't want stolitz to become a relationship

Neither of them are 100% in the right, I know that, this isn't because I love Blitz, I don't really care, but Stolas has always got on my nerves. First he makes a sex deal with a guy while he can clearly see he's running for his life and not into it. The deal is the only way Blitz can do his job, that's sexual coercion! Don't believe me? Here's the definition:

"Sexual coercion is unwanted sexual activity that happens when you are pressured, tricked, threatened, or forced in a nonphysical way. Coercion can make you think you owe sex to someone. It might be from someone who has power over you, like a teacher, landlord, or a boss."

Stolas doesn't see it this way but in the beginning of course blitz did and why wouldn't he? It doesn't matter if it was consensual, Stolas has power over him so he'd assume he owes it, he even shows this mindset in full moon where he thinks Stolas is taking the book because he wasn't satisfying him.

Stolas was constantly calling him degrading names too "my little imp" -murder family "my little impish plaything" -truth seekers "itty bitty imps like yourself" -harvest festival(? Don't remember the title) "little creatures" -looloo land. The argument is he didn't mean it as an insult and that's true, he didn't even mean the deal as manipulation, but that doesn't change how it made blitz feel, blitz isn't the type to open up to someone and say 'hey that hurts my feelings ' if stolas really liked him he should have noticed the reactions. He hates it every time, pushing away, changing the subject, you can't be that stupid. You can say stolas was raised this way and yes he was but again how is that blitz's problem? He can be treated disrespectfully because stolas has a shitty parent? So did he.

Let's not forget how he acted at Ozzie's too, when he was called out for being on a date with an imp he hid behind his menu like blitz is an embarrassment, he publicly humiliated him instead of taking up for him, hence why Ozzie and fizz are so much better, they would never. And then Stolas is all sad like "why didn't he wanna cuddle? :(" idk maybe because you reinforced he's worthless in public

And then it's revealed they haven't been doing their deal for a while because stolas feels guilty and it's about time, he should have realized forcing someone to have sex with you to do their job is wrong immediately. When he tells blitz he does it in the worst way possible, he doesn't fully explain why he's taking the book first and that makes blitz panic, and then all the sudden he's confessing his love, what did he think would happen?

They have this huge argument where people say stolas has a trauma response from yelling even though he's never flinched at Stella and wasn't afraid of her, every time she yelled or threw something he just looked dead inside instead of frightened, that's a normal response too, what I'm saying is in that moment he wasn't afraid of blitz at all and even if he was how is that blitz's fault? It was an impulsive reaction not a planned thing to play on someone's trauma

"I think so highly of you, I didn't know you thought so low of me" Stolas says crying, how? And it's not thinking low, it's thinking you think so low, "treating me like one of your little imp servants" he was?? If someone is telling you you did something that hurt them you should apologize instead of making it about yourself, save your crying for when you apologize like "oh my God i did that? I'm so sorry, i didn't mean to, I don't look down on you I promise, I didn't realize " and boom we're slightly better!

Everything before the deal break where you suddenly try to be better without apologizing and blitz doesn't understand, and the thing about blitz abandoning him with striker, he says blitz sounds like striker, don't do that wtf, you're making someone for guilty for taking their daughter to the doctor? Not everyone is a shitty dad who uses their child as an excuse to sexually and publicity flirt with the guy you're cheating on her mom with. You do not get to make him feel guilty for sending his work to do it while he comforts his scared child

Stolas refuses to acknowledge his own faults aside from the one with the deal, there's too much damage between to be a proper relationship, they shouldn't be endgame but you just know they will be somehow

Quick rant about Stoliz and the fandom perception of it

First of all, I want to say I’m avoiding any review with titles like “why helluva boss is bad af and you’re stupid to like it” because I ruined the first half of season 2 because of those kinds of reviews.

Second, I just came across a Stoliz discussion essay (that was posted like a week ago) titled like “this ship is tokix” blahblahblah whatever. And I’m here like…. Aren’t we kinda over this?

I get that you may dislike the ship, or the dynamic in itself. But, at this point in the story, Blitzo and Stolas no longer have a power dynamic. So what’s toxic about that exactly?

I would watch the video and find out, but I’m not in the mood to get mad at my phone, plus, as I said, I watched lots of review while season 2 was airing, and I know what they’re like.

Again, everyone can have their takes and, honestly, I’m not in the mood to argue. You can like or dislike a ship, it’s fine, but calling it toxic to justify your hatred is just weird??

Bring back disliking stuff because you just don’t vive with it.

Again Stolas is an insult to real abuse victims. The show tries to make Stella into this evil harpy while excusing people who have done abuse like Loona because she gets the trauma excuse. Heck, Stolas for all claims of being a victim is actually more of a victimizer than a victim because of how he used his power to trap a guy into a coercive deal to keep his book. People say Blitzo started it when reality he was going to have him in his room and expected him to ravage him even though this was the first time they met in years. The guy has been predatory from the start and I don't care what excuses to try to make him fake sympathetic. Coercing someone into sex for a long time is not a simple mistake it's a crime but since it's hell it wouldn't be punished. Also stfu about him giving his daughter love he will regularly choose Blitzo over his daughter while having the nerve to claim he still loves her.

People claim he wants to give her a normal life while not having two minds of cheating on her mother and obnoxiously still carrying on an affair that broke the family. That is the embodiment of not caring about your daughter. Also coming out of the closet shouldn't be an excuse to hurt people. Again everyone says he's improving but those so-called improvements is still coercing people into a relationship and whining when they rebuff his advances because in the past they treated them like shit and still denies they look do on them. This is the same twit who had the nerve to say Blitzo and Striker sound the same when they told him off for being a privileged asshole he really isn't learning.

There is a difference between being a normal,flawed dad and being a neglectful, selfish asshole who puts his wants before his child. And let me tell you a child shouldn't be forced to sacrifice their stability to make their manchild of a father happy. And even worse he's doing this for a guy he forced into his fantasy and treated like trash. His so-called abuse by Stella is forced and fake. He says he did it to give her a normal life but in reality he just ended up potentially putting her in danger of a unstable mother. Also it's less of an attempt to show males can be abused but the fact that it's a way to make Stolas look artificially better so his abuses on Blitzo are excused. Also Stolas has more power over Stella than he does over him. One thing abusers tend to do is trap their victims. And let's face the fact there is nothing Stella could do to trap him. Stolas was the one who could do that to her with his privilege but he doesn't exercise it because the narrative needs to make him look like a saint compared to her for putting up with everything.

Also not being able to read the room and his microaggressions have been detrimental because it feeds into his flaws and even worse his lack of accountability for his actions. He freaking put a cigarette out on Blitzo and we just expect him to see him as not looking down on him. And again this is the guy who used his own butler as a squeeze toy and Blitzo rightfully points out how he treats his own servants. The way he treats other imps have influenced why Blitzo callled bs because his microagressions aren't actually micro when he has acted like a typical royal who has abused the lower class. And again his obliviousness to read the room has hurt his relationships because people are telling him straight to his face but he ignores them because he'd rather live in his own world where he does nothing wrong. In summary, he's a selfish asshole people are babying and pretending that he's just a traumatized, flawed man when in reality he's worse than that and acting he ain't is just whitewashing.

Also stfu about saying we hate it for no reason. We hate it because it left the og premise for a shitty love drama with an insufferable creator's pet who ends up taking away anything interesting plot and refuses to own up to his mistakes. He always is a hindrance on the story and resent him for it.

Helluva Boss Sinsmas Spoilers!!!

So much to talk about. I am absolutely feral right now. Even with a bit of time to process everything, I'm still not okay (in the best way possible).

Blitz, giving Stolas lots of horse plushies to cuddle with, cooking Stolas food, helping him with shopping, laundry, getting food and clothes, hell EVEN FUCKING ROBBING stores for Stolas! He's giving Stolas everything he needs right now!!

Not to mention this!!!!

I also noticed there were a lot of Season 1 parallels. For example:

There were even parallels to "You Will Be Okay" within Octavia's solo, "I Will Be Okay". (Actually, now that I think about it, it might be the revise version/Octavia version of "You Will Be Okay".

Speaking of Octavia...

I made a theory post some time ago about the possibility of her coming in to save her dad.

Also, I love this anime/manga effect that they chose to do. I was not expecting that and I LOVED IT!!

It is bittersweet, really. She still saved him (and Blitz), obviously deep down she still cares and loves her dad. She's still hurt and disappointed that, in her eyes, he left her for Blitz. I mean, she's not wrong. That's technically what happened, even though we all knew that Blitz would've died if it weren't for Stolas. But she's disappointed that he broke his promise. She has every right to be upset right now.

I know Stolas did everything he could to protect Octavia, to avoid giving her the similar trauma that he went through as a kid. But even then, I feel like some of this complicated stuff could be avoided if he had just told her the truth. Even though it's a hard pill to swallow, Octavia still needs to know the truth about everything.

And yes, I know that Stolas tried to tell her at the end, but at that point, it was technically too late. Octavia is not gonna hear him out right now or any time soon. And that hurts, for both of them.

Perhaps one day, Octavia will learn what's really going on behind the scenes. Perhaps she'll understand better why Stolas acted the way he did, and why he did all of those things. She doesn't have to forgive him right away (though, she could forgive him much later on if she wants to). But I still have a strong feeling, despite everything, deep down, she still loves her dad, even if everything's complicated right now.

MILLIE'S PREGNAT!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

Honestly, I'm highly sure Moxxie would still love Millie and support her. I really hope he'd be happy with having a child (or children if they end up being twins or triplets). Maybe he'd also be worried about ending up like his shitty father, in which Millie would reassure him that he is NOTHING like his father and never will be.

And of course, Blitz would try to give them Parenting 101 Lessons on What To Do and What NOT To Do. Maybe Stolas would also try to help them out as well, but I feel like he'd get very emotional, because it'd remind him of his daughter.

One bonus thing I wanna mention real quick: Loona's still calling Blitz "Dad".

Alright this post is way too fucking long. I'm so sorry but there's too much to talk about and point out. And I'm sure there's a lot more to talk about, like Blitz and Stolas acting like an actual couple. But I'm gonna leave it here.
