It's okay to be emotional over a ship.

It's okay to be emotional over a ship. It's okay to be emotional over characters. It's okay to share grievances over a ship as much as it's okay to gush over a ship. It's okay to feel so overwhelmingly negatively over a ship just as much as it's okay to feel so overwhelmingly positive.

While it's always going to be better to focus on positives, it can also be just as good to let out any negatives you might have about something rather than bottling it in and, for some, feeling alone in your thoughts about it.

It is so, so, SO OKAY to be so heavy in emotions concerning a ship whether negative or positive because it means you're invested in the characters and their relationships. When spaces seem to allow only positivity when some people might have some negative thoughts on a ship, it really negates any conversations about it and even understanding sides of why someone may or may not ship something.

While understandable, there is a double standard between being negative and positive about ships (or portrayal of characters). If you feel overwhelmingly negative about something, "you need to go touch grass". If you feel overwhelmingly positive about something, "go at it queen". I would personally argue we all need to touch grass.

It is NOT okay to harass others. It is NOT okay to let your emotions dictate that you should attack somebody for LIKING a certain ship or DISLIKING a certain ship. Your emotions DO NOT dictate how OTHERS should feel.

It is okay to be negative about a character or ship as much as it's okay to be positive about them. Neither side of being for or against a ship is more virtuous than the others. It's okay to have some fucking emotions regardless if their positive or not, because it means you CARE about the media and the characters in it.

No, you should not revolve your whole online experience in negativity. Find positive in things you DO enjoy. But to brush off people who vehemently might dislike a character or ship as "losers with no lives" is to disregard a person's emotions on something. And if you do wanna think that mindset, congrats, people who obsessively love a character or ship are just the same by your logic. Obsession is obsession, regardless if it's negative or positive.

TL;DR, If it's okay to be overwhelmingly positive in liking something like a ship or character, it should be just as okay to be negative in disliking something like a ship or character. Just as long as it's not the ONLY thing you focus on and no one is actively being bullied, attacked, or harassed about it. And of course, either way, positive or negative, it is all fiction, and a real person should not be attacked or harassed for it. And if you don't want to indulge in negativity you might have, 100% valid. Both sides always need to take a step back into reality.

This was a planned thing I had around the time I had this little rant (appreciate everyone who's bothered reading that thank you!)

Seeing as we have three canonically Asexual characters, I thought each of them having a different romantic orientation (and varying asexuality on the scale) would be fun and neat to show the variations to the orientations! But I was really stumped on Mammon since I was pretty set on Alastor and Octavia, but Mammon not being any form of aromantic didn't feel right, not terribly ooc, just definitely felt a bit more like "he's the leftovers" sort of thing when divvying up the romantic orientations. But lo and behold, the new episode of Helluva came out and helped solved that little quandrie. So here are my thoughts below on each!

Alastor (Loveless Aromantic) If you've seen my rant, you probably have a good idea why I labeled him as a "loveless aromantic" (meaning in this sense I'm talking about, he just wouldn't have any form of romantic affections or go into something like a QPR or the like). And I do genuinely think he would be! But I know there's A LOT of bias for Alastor NOT being aromantic (or at least open to some sort of relationship), and I will admit I might've been a bit biased here too! I've just seen a lot of love for only specific parts of the aro spectrum that "allows" Alastor to get with someone, and I wanted to give some love to the aro spectrum that gets little to no appreciation (plus I do just genuinely think he'd be this). If you don't agree, all is fair ദ്ദി（• ˕ •マ.ᐟ The point is, I realize I'm probably in the minority here. Plus, it's all a guessing game more or less until something is officially stated, which probably will never happen for any of these three.

Anyway, like I said, I just don't see Alastor really getting as close to anyone even as a QPR. At the VERY LEAST, not in a QPR that has a lot of romantic parts to it (kissing on the lips, cuddling, etc.). My man wouldn't have any interest in marriage or anything romantic, he's very happy on his own and probably gossips about OTHER people's love lives. Then again, he seemed pretty close to cracking when he heard Charlie ranting about her own love life... With that said, I do think he DOES like the company of others, he's VERY social after all. But actually, getting intimate with someone? Mmm, that doesn't feel right for him to me. A kiss on the cheek or PERHAPS a cuddle here and there at most, but nothing like bathing with someone or kissing with tongue. He's also a man of the roaring twenties, so you KNOW how he thinks about intimacies that might have no romantic/sexual connotations by themselves (like bathing with someone) are romantic on their own just because being that close to someone was seen that way in his time. Plus again, I just don't think he'd be interested in that stuff as is (potentially he could be both touch-starved and touch-aversed. And oh boy, wouldn't that be a conundrum!) On one hand, I like and can see Alastor being sex-repulsed, on the other I can also see him just feeling nothing towards it. Considering Angel's "advances" in both the first episode and the pilot, he does have a bit of a strong reaction towards sex, but nothing crazy either. I can see him being lukewarm to the subject (so he could read a book or read a script out loud with sex in it), but he could be repulsed when it actually INVOLVES HIM. I can definitely see him somewhat annoyed with the subject for how everywhere it is though.

Octavia (QPR Aromantic) It's a little hard to pinpoint, but I can personally see Octavia getting into a close QPR sooner than Alastor, but maaayybe only be a hair. Octavia could possibly get into a platonic relationship with someone that would have remnants of seeming romantic. I do think she's probably the most sex-repulsed of the three, if in part because of her father's inclinations that he doesn't seem to hide even when she's around. Honestly, I feel like we still haven't seen enough of her to get a good grasp on this aspect of her character in if she would be interested in getting as close as to a QPR with someone. But I'd certainly like to think so, because damn does our girl need it. Her falling into some sort of relationship would probably be hard seeing as how her parents' relationship was so awful. So she could be hesitant about doing something like that.

Mammon He was the big toughy! And while his advances on Leviathan might have been meant in a more platonic way or just for show to go against Ozzy's and Bee's romantic relations, I'm going with what's there! So Mammon seems like he could be straight or bi/pan. But I don't have a hard grasp on which so I'm tossing that in the air. I don't think he'd be sex-repulsed just because of how "sex makes money". Like, there's no question that sex appeal is a big part of business even if something isn't even that sexual. So while I think he's not largely interested in doing anything sexual, I can see him being okay or even lukewarm to the subject, maybe just not getting the appeal entirely. Maaaayybe he's sex-favorable? Of the three I would imagine he would be the most likely to be sex-favorable, but I dunno.

I like the idea of Octavia being the only one aware as to what her orientations are. Alastor is... well he's Alastor, and Mammon doesn't seem like he'd be too interested in the details of things. Just that "there's straight, gay, and the between area".

perhaps the most devastating thing about the met gala is when you see a celeb in an outfit that would be absolutely SERVING at any other event, but because they’re at the met gala they’re being severely out-served because, well, it’s the met gala and some of these people do NOT come to play so some of these dresses that i would normally think to be so pretty will just forever look so meh to me because they were photographed next to the likes of people like zendaya who have never failed to slay a met gala look in their lives

What’s the most expensive thing you have?

BY FAR this animation cel from the og ep “The Real Life” hahaa hand painted cels are a dead medium so surviving pieces are now big collector’s items and will usually go for a pretty penny. 

THIS CEL tho is kind of a funny story because I remember posting a screencap of this exact frame on discord one time because it was one of my faves and I LITERALLY SAID offhandedly something along the lines of “i wonder if the cel of this still exists, I would totally splurge on it” AND NO LIE like a week or so later by some divine intervention this EXACT CEL popped up for sale on an online shop for WB animation art??? The timing of it was absolutely insane lmaoo but yeah it was clearly DESTINY so I immediately burned a hole in my pocket and splurged on it like I said I would and now it is mine forever and ever and i also went to a con and got it signed by rob and moe and it is perfect and amazing the end

OKAY... so like multiple factors to consider for my opinion... i tried not to include the stars performance specifically and if i considered The Game(s) it was more based on how entertaining the home team was or how the crowd was reacting? not on how the stars played. AND ALSO... every worker at every arena was VERY nice and accommodating and thus have had 0 impact on individual arena rankings. ill just do an arena by arena breakdown!

ALSO quick warmups wrap up at the end where i talk abt each teams policy and how much it did or did not piss me off LOLL

BOSTON - i saw the stars there last season and this season (and i also saw their winter classic game but that was in fenway so. i feel it doesnt count lol)! this one gets a big big boost from me just from being. very accessible to me personally. like ive never had to drive there so thats like +10000 because the train is sooo easy. i love u mbta.

BUT i will also say. boston fans get rep for being mean or rude or assholes or Whatever u wanna say but ive never had issue, ive had good silly banter and chats with the oldest of boston men (probs helped by me being from the area but regardless), have gotten on the train in my away team jerseys with no issue, etc.

the crowd just has great energy!!! new england loves their sports yes whatever but everyone was In It from the lower bowl to the deepest of the 300s! i saw a game where the bruins won after 5000 rounds of shootout and a game that the stars won Firmly and never did the energy from the home crowd feel Awful (yes theres people leaving early in big losses but thats like. different i feel like). like people were reacting chatting shouting etc the whole time! i love boston idk. also u get a free poster i think at every game?? at least i have! which is cool!

PHILLY - i will preface with obviously the good vibes are fresh but like. wells fargo is really fucking cool!!!! i liked walking around (even tho i did not get to do as much as i wanted before the game . on account of. i was almost late) there seemed like a lot of shit to do and a lot of cool eatery etc etc. their board is Strange shaped... concave... but she grew on me and i think i like it! and the seats are all rlly nice

also the crowd definitely did not necessarily have like um. the most positive of Vibes. Considering... but they were lively! there was chants there was yelling there was cheering and jeering etc etc. it was fun!! it felt like a hockey game! (it will be clear why i keep mentioning this later)

and as far as transport. traffic was a nightmare mostly bc of it being a big city during rush hour. BUT parking was suuuuper easy! and pretty cheap! i believe i paid abt $20? and u just self parked wherever in that area. (i think unless u had fancy reserved parking but um. i didnt find that worth it. but obvs i didnt do that so i guess who am i). it was a really easy in and out tbh. overall i had a ton of fun with the only Bumps being my own errors from confusion lol!

BUFFALO - buffalo and jersey had very different things that got them to roughly the same ranking. one of the biggest ups for buffalo from me. if we're being so honest. is that parking was SUPER cheap!!! not kidding!!!! it was really easy and really cheap lololol

i dont think there was anything Exceptional abt buffalo (other than the game score. obviously). i will say. and i could be misremembering! but i think they were missing something Vital from the main big board and i wanna say it was the time? like they only had that on the sides. which was strange. but also hearing they may have a new jumbotron so liiike. maybe my opinion there doesnt matter. but overall it was fun! the crowd was like pretty normal. pretty standard hockey crowd energy! but the seats were fine and the price was really good for where i sat!

NEW JERSEY - again, nothing really separating this from buffalo! i will say the arena as a whole is a little nicer maybe. i didnt park at the arena so idk abt pricing there but the garage i parked at maybe a 5 min walk away was well priced!

its a little pricey Overall (at least now bc their team is doing well lol) but i was able to snag good seats ! nothing special but they had a lot of leg room etc. good hockey energy in the arena i'd say, clear enthusiasm and Vibes. dudes behind us were annoying and did not know puck but i wont hold this against all fans

NYC - now.... i know this will be controversial.... but im glad i went once! and now i will probably Never return to msg. i apologize for any msg lovers bc this unforch will be quite a bit of complaining... sorry. TO PREFACE WITH POSITIVITY... the arena design is really nice! like the lights are cool and the little videos are rlly sick and fun etc! but um.

first of all the entering to the seats is ANNOYING. its 50000 escalators up and im unsure Why even... thats not even talking abt the pain to get in. you have to scan your tickets on a turnstile thing as opposed to like a human scanning your ticket and it actually in fact makes the process LONGER and also is way more inaccessible imo bc the turnstiles arent Wide dude.

for reference i was up in the 200s when i normally try to snag lower bowl when possible. so this COULD just be a universal issue im not familiar with but. along with the no leg room there werent any? cup holders??? which is Annoying on its own but EXTRA annoying when you're at a sports game so they have to take the bottle caps off of things so youre stuck??? holding your water (or other bev)??? on account of the lack of cupholder or leg room???

also the arena was DEAD. i understand the rags aren't doing hot this season but ive also visited other teams that werent doing good and at the very least they booed! the only time anyone made Noise was to cheer for THEIR goal. there was none of that crowd wide gasping or groaning or clapping for a save. it was BIZARRE and im wondering how much of it was because the lower bowl was Dudes in Suits or Dude in Suit Adjacent aka the bourgeoisie... BUT I DIGRESS

i will say to compliment sandwich it. its SUPER helpful that its right next to penn station and really great they allow large bag sizes to come in. i loved being able to bring in my tote and not worry abt it. overall the experience was too mid-bad for me to consider spending all that money again

LONG ISLAND - this one is sooo much based off the way their team and fans are so. sorry. i will say the arena is REALLY nice and tickets themselves dont cost a ton! its a beautiful place with really nice and classic hockey fans and energy yk.

now. i dont think i need to elaborate that the isles are not The Most Fun team to watch... i can only take so many 1-1 to ot games you know... they just arent the most exciting rn! but i try not to let that effect Too much!

now my two BIGGEST issues are that parking is WAYYY too expensive. like way too much. i even tried waiting closer to the event to get a cheap resale and that was still more than i paid anywhere else....... it was absurd i fear

but truly. and this does not reflect on fans on hockeyblr of course. but the fans are just RUDE. like i dont know why, ive gone to a stars win and a stars loss and no matter what theyre just bitchy to us???? shouting rude shit right behind us, making weird faces at us sitting next to them, not making Normal Sports Game Convo if you try to initiate, honked at us in the garage, kept saying we had the ugliest jerseys in the league??? like not fun lighthearted sports jeering! just nasty stuff!! i dont know why!!!!!!!!! i met one (1) nice drunk woman who thought they were playing the sharks and that is the only positive experience ive had!

i went to the isles for my first ever stars game and then last year as well and im spoilers not going this year... i just cant do it there anymore lol. during the game the general vibe is fine! but i cant with all the rest of the shit its just kinda not fun

WARMUPS RUNDOWN FOR THOSE WHO CARE - boston, philly, buffalo, and new jersey get their flowers for having Normal warm up policy (you can get there whenever and stand wherever). the isles are really stupid where you can only stand in one (maybe two?) sections for warmups so it gets SUPER backed up around there. rags have a similar policy but its Worse, Actually because the section they make you stand in DOESNT GO DOWN TO THE GLASS?????? HALF OF THE SECTIONS DONT GO DOWN TO THE GLASS????? strange!!! really strange.

OVERALL.... id happily return to boston, philly, nj, and buffalo if given the chance, dont think id go back down to the new york named teams unless it was for a very specific stars (ha) aligned reason.

The redheaded regular is back. Mary’s eyes flick to her instinctively as she walks in, drawn to her before she can even register what she’s doing. She looks gorgeous, as always. The dress she’s wearing is slim fitting and green, the contrast between the colour of the fabric and the deep scarlet of her hair sharp in a way that almost forbids you from directing your attention elsewhere. Mary follows her with her gaze as she walks to the bar and shrugs off her jacket.

Later on, during a brief and precious moment of downtime, Mary finds her again. She’s sat at a table now, alone, her book lying discarded to the side as she sips her margarita. She’s on the hunt. Mary’s got her M.O figured out completely by now. She enters, sits down, reads for twenty minutes or so, then starts searching. Her eyes scan the room analytically, all business, flicking acutely from face to face. Mary leans back against the wall where she’s stood behind the bar and follows suit. Recently she’s taken to playing a little game - figure out which one the pretty redhead’s going to go for before she makes her move. It’s something of a race between them. Maybe him, she thinks, catching sight of a man sat a few tables away. He’s her type, Mary reckons. Good dress sense. Nice smile. Dark hair. I’ve got dark hair, she muses to herself. Not that that’s relevant or anything.

The redhead proves her right about two minutes after she makes the guess. She starts her game. Mary’s noticed her play it. It begins tame enough. She’ll shoot a few glances over at his general direction, not even at him to start with, just his way. After a while he’ll notice it, feel her eyes on him, and turn his head to look for them. Then he’ll see her - see her freckled shoulders, see how the fallout from her glitzy eye makeup shimmers delicately on her cheeks, see her careful fingers lift her glass to her glossy lips. By then, most men are hooked. For the rest of the evening she’ll flirt with her eyes. Direct her gaze at him like a doe until he goes to meet it, at which point she’ll divert her attention back to the swirl of her drink with a coy smile before he can catch her looking at him. After a few rounds of that, she’ll let him have a win. Just one, to keep him playing. He’ll try to ambush her and she’ll let him have a few seconds of direct eye contact, pretend as if she doesn’t know exactly what she’s doing. She’ll act a little embarrassed. Giggle even. Then, if she’s feeling bold, wink at him before she looks away. After that it’s right back to the chase from before.

The game tonight is going well, Mary thinks. The bloke’s clearly interested in her and she seems to fancy the look of him well enough for now. Any moment now then. Mary’s right again, for it’s at that moment that the pretty redhead pulls out a pen and a notebook from her tote. She uncaps the former, rips a page out of the latter, then sets them both down whilst she goes about rummaging for her lipstick. Once she’s found it, she reapplies it thickly, using her phone as a mirror, then brings the loose piece of paper up to her lips to kiss. When she pulls it away the memory of her pout is captured sweetly in the middle of the page. The red of her kiss stands out salaciously from the white. Picking up her pen, she quickly scribbles her number below it in neat, deft strokes, before signing it with two self-assured x’s for good measure. Mary watches her fold the note up and pack away the rest of her stuff and feels a strange and unreasonable twinge of disappointment unspool in her chest. He’s a very lucky man, she thinks.

She really should be getting back to work by now, but she’s been spying practically since the pretty redhead walked in and she decides she’s going to see the interaction through. She follows her as she gets up from her table and slings her bag over her shoulder. Watches as she walks towards the man’s table. Sees her nod to him, reach out to pat his cheek, and… walk right past him.

‘Hello.’ Huh.

‘Hi. Did you want to… order anything?

‘No, thank you,’ the pretty redhead says, leaning over to smile at Mary brightly. ‘I’m Lily. This is my number.’ She sets the piece of paper she’d folded up down on the bar and pushes it across to her.

‘Mary,’ says Mary, still doing the maths in her head to make the facts of her current situation compute.

‘Mary. I like it. Contact me, then.’

‘Hm?’

‘Well, I’ve made you wait long enough, haven’t I?’ Lily says. ‘Unless I misread the situation and you’re not into me, after all.’

‘I’m into you,’ Mary replies immediately. ‘Very into you. I’ll call.’

Lily smiles again, a gorgeous thing, pleased and earnest and true. The faintest hint of a blush has risen in her cheeks. For a fleeting moment Mary rather thinks she’d like to make her smile like that everyday for the rest of her life.

Where Cassandra takes a long time to actually love somebody, but when she does she loves HARD. She would fight her own family for her partner. She would take on Mother Miranda bare handed if they asked her to. As loyal as a dog, and oh so deadly.

But Melony doesn't feel love that intense. She cares a lot for Cass, but she's not picking fights for her. She IS loyal as a dog but she has limits. Her love is much more subtle and she's all in all a lot more normal about her relationship.

Melony holds Cassandra on the same level she does the other people she loves, and Cassandra holds Melony above everybody else she loves. But that works for them.
