Amortentia - Theodore Nott X Reader
Summary: Learning about amortentia in class
“And with the correct blend of ingridients, does anyone know what is created?” Professor snape asks in his brass tone. A hufflepuff girl raises her hand very hesitantly. “Yes?” He points to to the girl with a gesture. “It’s a live potion.” She says tenderly. “Correct.” Snape retorts, before awarding hufflepuff house a whole 5 points.
You and Theo are standing next to each other, curiously gazing at the cauldron that’s emitting a pink glow very curiously. “The two of you,” professor snape gestures again. You and Theo are first in disbelief, but then you each step forward. “One at a time, I want you to lean forward and describe to me the distinct scent of this potion.” He says.
“Yes professor,” you say. “I’ll go first.” Theodore says. She leans forward into the cauldron, and a pleasant scent fills his senses. “It’s like,” he pursed his lips in thought before continuing. “Lavendar… Cloves, and fresh rain.” He says finally.
“Very well, your turn ms/mr L/N.”
You step forward just has Theodore had, and take a moment to inhale. “. . .It’s warm, it smells like a campfire, cedar… and lemongrass, old books, tobacco.” It was an odd but unique mix that was comforting, familiar almost.
“Does anyone know why Mr. Nott and Mr/Ms L/N are picking up these particular scents?” Professor snape asks. Expecting someone to answer. You step forward after a bit of awkward silence. For a brilliant potions master, he could sure be intimidating sometimes. You could recall from this last lecture; “The scents are whatever the person thinks to be attractive or alluring.” You explain. Professor snape nods. “Excellent.” He cooes.
Your house is awarded 10 points. The remainder of the class felt like a blur, you were tired less engaged during the second half of the class, though when dismissed you were finally able to sigh in relief.
Theodore, whom had been your best friend since your first year noticed the shift in your mood. “You okay?” He says, packing his satchel with his potion making tools for class, his textbook and notes. “Yeah, just tired is all.” You said quietly, gathering your things as well.
“Maybe you can get some rest this afternoon then.” Theodore offered gently. He had always been kind to you in that way. “Maybe.” You lean back putting your hands on the table, brushing theo’s hand which was already there.
Although this was an accident you felt a jolt of energy and your heart began to race. The busy classroom died down until it was just the two of you standing there in an empty classroom. He didn’t move his hand. You smiled softly.
He caught your eyes, his gaze was soft and he slowly leaned in, taking a auick peek at your lips. You did the same until your faces were inches apart.
You would have totally kissed. If it were the poor kid who forgot his book who came back into the classroom. You each pulled away slightly as the student uttered a quick “so sorry.” And rushed back outside.
You and theo chuckled. You liked being so close to him. You could smell that funny scent from the potion from the first part of class start to fill your senses, campfire… cedar… lemongrass… old books… tobacco. You brushed it off, thinking maybe it was some coincidental thing. Or a mind trick. But professor snap had did away with the cauldron and the concoction already… it was strange. You were rattled in thoughts.
“Well, I ought to get going.” Theodore said. “Meet me outside common room tonight, 8 O’clock, and we’ll chat then. Yeah?” He offered. You were still enamored with yourself. “Yeah, Yeah that sounds great.”
“I’ll see you then.” Theodore said slowly making his way away. It took you a few seconds before you realized what was happening. The scent was there when you were about to kiss him, it wasn’t just the cauldron.. and you thought back to when you had answered professor snape. It hit you all at once in a sudden moment, you facepalmed and laughed in disbelief at yourself. It’s smells like whatever is attractive for you, it smells like someone you love… And you were in love, oh Merlin were you in love.
What you did not consider, was what Theodore was thinking. And how you were wearing lavender and clove scented perfume that day.

Bruce broke his foot (again) and now someone needs to fill in as Batman. Who's donning the cowl and who's making calls to get off the planet so they don't have to do it?
Bruce: Casting calls are now live.
Duke, nervously getting onstage: Hi.
*microphone squeaks*
Duke: M-my name is Duke Thomas and I'm auditioning for the role of Batman.
Bruce: Show me what you got.
Duke: *clears his throat*
Duke, reading from a script: "Stop right there, Joker! Your days of evildoing have come to a—"
Duke: Actually, I have some notes. From a writer's standpoint, this reads less like the Dark Knight and more like a 60s sitcom.
Bruce: Next!
Selina: What better person to be Batman than the woman who has him wrapped around her finger?
Bruce: You know that's not how it works.
Selina: I've been practicing my quick change so I can be both of us in one fight. Come on, Bat. Can't bend the rules for the love of your life?
Bruce: I love you, but next!
Tim: I'm auditioning for the non-dictator Batman.
Bruce: Not taking any chances. Next!
Cassandra: *flips onstage in a series of elaborate acrobatics*
Cassandra: *beats the training dummy*
Bruce: Impressive. Now, I'll give you a scenario and you act it out as if you're Batman, okay?
Cassandra: *nods*
Bruce: A lost child walks up to you. What's the first thing you say?
Cassandra: You will make an excellent Robin.
Bruce: Yes—I mean, no. No. Next person, please.
Dick: I don't get why I have to audition. I mean, I was Batman.
Bruce: Hm, you're right. Let's give someone else a turn. Next!
Jason, in an improvised costume: I am the darkness. I am the night. I am...
Jason: *whips out guns*
*BANG BANG BANG*
Bruce: Next!
Stephanie: Can I try out?
Bruce: Sure, why not. Let's say you're negotiating a hostage situation. What do you say?
Stephanie: I'll give you Bruce Wayne's credit card if you let these people go.
Bruce: Next!
Barbara: I have programmed an advanced speaker system that will project your grunt from every gargoyle in the city.
Bruce: Grunting doesn't send people to Arkham. Next!
Damian: *walks in*
Bruce: No.
Bruce: Last one left is Kate.
Kate: Don't look at me, I'm just trying to find my keys.
Bruce, groaning: Patrol's in an hour. How am I gonna find a replacement?
Alfred: Master Bruce, perhaps I can substitute for you on the field.
Bruce: Thanks for offering, but I can't let you put yourself in danger like that.
Alfred: Then might I suggest, as Ms. Kyle said, bending one of your rules?
Bruce: Hm...
[later]
Joker: With a push of a button, I'm going to send this entire street sky high!
Clark dressed as Batman: Not if I can help it.
Joker: What is this, some sort of flying device?
Clark: Some changes were made.
Joker: Like what?
Diana, dressed as Batman: Like this.
Diana: *lassoes the Joker*
Joker: There's two of you?!?
Ollie, dressed as Batman, perched on a gargoyle: A little more than that.
Dinah, dressed as Batman: And we have some new tricks up our sleeve. Like this.
Dinah: *screams*
Arthur, dressed as Batman, bursting from the sewer: And this.
Arthur: *catches Joker in a whirlpool*
Hal, dressed as Batman, pointing his ring: And this.
Hal: *traps Joker in a ball*
J'onn, dressed as Batman: May I?
Zatanna, dressed as Batman: I want in too.
Hal: Okay, all of us on the count of three.
Everyone: *bounces Joker back to Arkham*
Barry, dressed as Batman: *runs in late*
Barry: Aw man, I missed it!

Punch Out!! Boxing Style Deepdive
I wanted to imagine each of the Punch Out!! Wii boxers' individual fighting styles as if it wasn't set in a game and subject to rigid and defined attack patterns, though I’ll still be using their movesets as inspiration.
This is still very headcanon heavy. Feel free to let me know if you thought of their styles in a different way or just have some suggestions, I’d like to hear ‘em.
Glass Joe: Out-boxer
From all the experience gained in his one-hundred matches, Glass Joe knows very well that he goes down very easily after getting hit. To rectify this, he’ll keep his distance until he’s ready to punch and then duck back out again. However, he’s a bit too slow to maintain that distance. Hey, it’s his strategy. Doesn’t mean he’s good enough to pull it off, though.
Von Kaiser: Boxer-puncher
In his prime, Von Kaiser’s movements were jerky and mechanical in nature. This made his attacks difficult to predict as due to his lack of flow but sharp and snappy movements, Kaiser could drastically shift from one position to another in the blink of an eye. The way his body moved even felt inhuman. Von Kaiser rarely dodged and opted to take punches instead, giving him more freedom to attack rather than wasting movements to block or evade. His magically-enhanced steel-like body was enough to protect him as well as give his punches extra damage.
Disco Kid: Out-boxer
As a newbie boxer, Disco is still instinctually averse to pain which naturally makes him stay farther away, using his height and lanky figure to outrange his opponent. With his dancing expertise, Disco Kid hopes to use his light steps to have quick movements and good footwork.
King Hippo: Slugger
King Hippo is a deceivingly defensive fighter that starts with throwing small (though still strong) jabs and overheads as well as tanking hits to give the impression that he’ll try to outlast his opponent before throwing power swings when they least expect it.
Piston Hondo: Boxer-puncher
Hondo’s style is very balanced between offense and defense. With his disciplined and rigorous training, he is very precise and accurate which allows him to aim for weak points with his punches. The jabs from his Hondo Rush target just one spot on the body to deal a massive amount of damage to a singular point.
Bear Hugger: Switch-hitter slugger
With his ambidextrous hands, Bear Hugger can comfortably switch between southpaw and orthodox stances to throw off his opponent. He now fights like a bear too, thanks to all the rigorous training from Ms. Bear. His fighting instinct is excellent as well as his use of hearing and smell in addition to his sight. Also, rather than pressuring his opponent with constant punches, Hugger will circle them while he waits for an opportunity to attack in lightning-fast bursts. His bulk makes him difficult to knock down while giving his punches even more power by putting his weight into them. Though he is difficult to knock off balance, he is almost guaranteed to go down once he loses footing.
Great Tiger: In-fighter (with out-boxer positioning)
Great Tiger uses his flashy magical tricks to disorient and confuse opponents in order to pressure and create openings. He has an ambushing style as with his unique ability to teleport, Tiger can “pounce” into close quarters range to deal damage and then teleport out just as quickly before his opponent can punch back. He is a glass cannon when it comes to boxing, opting to overpower his opponent with his magic rather than preparing to protect himself. Teleportation also helps Tiger correct his positioning mistakes.
Don Flamenco: Stylist out-boxer
Don Flamenco treats combat more like a choreographed dance than a fight. His light and quick footwork makes him an excellent out-boxer that can dance around his opponent as he baits them to attack. Don prefers to fight blow for blow, controlling the match's pace by trading hits in tandem to keep the fight feeling even and to show off his elegance. He typically doesn't give his all as he prioritizes his image and giving a good show rather than trying his hardest to win. Of course, all of that goes out the window once the toupee comes off. Then all that’s on Don’s mind is revenge.
Aran Ryan: Inside swarmer
An infighter by nature, Aran Ryan uses his agility and speed to first dodge his opponent’s attacks and get a read on how they fight. After understanding their tactics, Aran then finds any opportunities to sneak hits in with whatever he can think of to pressure and whittle down his foe. He performs better against opponents taller or the same height as him, as Aran likes staying crouched and low to the ground. It’s easier for him to hit upwards than it is for his opponent to punch down.
Soda Popinski: Southpaw slugger
Soda’s style relies a lot on instinct and reflex while fighting and he heavily depends on his sugar-enhanced strength and endurance to carry him through the match, never showing signs of slowing down or getting tired. The energy boost from his soda lets him ignore a lot of pain and strain, letting him hit even harder. He is especially dangerous as during his sugar-induced rage, he’s still as strong as a slugger but becomes as fast as a swarmer. Soda’s body is always working to its limit in his matches, and he will crash hard without his soda.
Bald Bull: Slugger
Bald Bull’s anger makes his stamina wane very quickly the longer a fight goes on, so he will do his best to end a fight as fast as possible while still at his strongest. Because of this, he has a very all-or-nothing style and puts all his strength into every punch without thinking about pacing himself.
Super Macho Man: Boxer-puncher
Macho fears the cameras catching him looking ugly while exhausted. As such, he never goes all-out with his hits, opting to pace himself preparing in case the match goes all the way to decision. He accentuates and exaggerates each of his moves for the cameras to get good angles of his body, and holding back allows him to always look effortless. Due to this, he is an excellent endurance fighter and can outlast most opponents.
Mr. Sandman: Peek-a-boo pressure fighter
If he’s actually concerned about his opponent’s skill level, Mr. Sandman will start out slowly to conserve stamina before rapidly ramping up his power and speed. If his opponent even lasts more than a minute, it becomes more and more difficult for them as their stamina wanes while Sandman keeps getting stronger and faster. Like a train, there’s no stopping him once he gets going.

Absolutely hate the received wisdom that Buffy Summers is not "book smart" or that she doesn’t care about doing well in high school. How little attention are you paying to the show if that’s your take on the character?
Consider:
When she first arrives in Sunnydale, one of the first things Buffy does is make friends with Willow Rosenberg, explicitly because she wants to hang out with somebody smart and get caught up with the classes she’s already behind on.
After seeing her permanent record in her sophomore year, one of Buffy’s teachers (Teacher’s Pet’s Dr. Gregory) tells her that she has “a first rate mind” and that he “know[s] you can excel in this class”.
Buffy had a favorite teacher (Homecoming’s Ms. Moran) whose class she says “changed her life” and whose failure to remember her the next year obviously upsets her a lot.
When she gets the ability to read minds in Earshot, one of the very first things she thinks to use it for is showing off in class to impress her teachers.
After Buffy comes back to Sunnydale for her final year of high school, one of the terms Principal Snyder insists she meets to be accepted back is a “glowing letter of recommendation from any member of our faculty who is not an English librarian”. Since she doesn’t get kicked out again, we can presume she got one (even if not from Ms. Moran or the late Dr. Gregory).
In Lovers Walk we find out that Buffy got a 1430 in the SATs. That’s a score which means Buffy probably outperformed at least 95% of people who took the test in 1998 (when the average for college-bound seniors was 1017).
In Choices, Buffy gets accepted into Northwestern, and is clearly heartbroken that she isn’t able to go.
Buffy Summers spends practically all her free time in school hanging out in the library.
Yes, Buffy often struggles in school. She’s often absent, and doesn’t always have the time to do the homework. And when she is in class, she’s often late or too tired to concentrate.
But the reason for this isn’t that Buffy “isn’t smart”, it’s because – spoiler warning, I guess, for those of you that obviously managed to miss it - she’s a vampire slayer. She effectively has a whole full-time job, a whole secret life that means she doesn’t have time to do homework or prepare for tests; something that keeps her awake all night so she can’t focus on her schoolwork the next day. When she comes out as a Slayer to her Mom, in Becoming, one of the things she tells her she wishes she were doing rather than having to save the world is explicitly “studying”.
And she does all the stuff above anyway. How do you think she’s managing that if she’s not really smart?
Yes, Buffy isn’t quite as academically talented as Willow. Yes, she often makes self-deprecating jokes about how poorly she’s doing at school (telling her Mom before parents’ night in School Hard that her teachers will be impressed that she always brings a pen to class “ready to absorb the knowledge”; worriedly asking Giles before an English makeup exam in Faith, Hope & Trick whether they “give you credit just for speaking it”).
But these pretty obviously are jokes. Buffy’s problem in School Hard is with Principal Snyder, who’s threatening to expel her because he blames her for “starting fights” and is worried she’s going to burn down a building, not with any of her actual teachers. Not with her academic results. Buffy passes the English test she was worried about, in fact she passes all her required makeup tests. She does this even without Willow’s help.
The only time we see Buffy actually completely fail a test is in Nightmares, which ... isn't anymore real than the conversation she has with her father later that episode. It's one of her nightmares being brought to life; because Buffy does care about doing well in school and is afraid that she won't.
Yes, Buffy finds some classes boring – but so does Willow. Many high school classes are boring, no matter how smart you are. Yes, Buffy struggles with some subjects (like French) more than others. (It’s probably not a coincidence that learning a foreign language takes much more time and practice than many other subjects.) But nothing in the text of the show suggests that Buffy is not smart and motivated, or that she wouldn’t be doing really well in high school were it nor for the fact she’s a Slayer.
Quite the opposite, in fact. The show repeatedly tells us that Cordelia Chase is who Buffy was in her old school in LA. Cordelia’s popular, she’s on the cheerleading team, her parents take her on expensive holidays. These are all presented to the viewer as things Buffy used to have, and would still have if it weren’t for her Calling.
And Cordelia’s also really smart. She has teachers who praise her for doing the reading and answering questions in class and who offer to help her with her homework, she looks forward to the SATs because she “do[es] well on standardized tests” (and while we don’t learn her exact score, from Xander’s reaction it’s clearly meant to be impressively high), she boasts in Lovers Walk that she has a lot of experience in covering up how well she’s doing academically. We learn in Choices that she got offers from Duke and Columbia and USC.
That’s who Buffy is. That’s what she’d have been doing in high school if she wasn’t the Slayer.
Literally what show are you watching if you don’t spot that?
