The God of the Pit and "Happiness"
Today I started thinking about the Pit God and its goals. What we know is that the series is slowly heading towards the destruction of all Yorishiros. Hanako claims that once you destroy all of the Yorishiros, "God" will grant his wish.
That is why he was using the rumors being twisted as a pretext to destroy them. Sakura will also be freed once they're all destroyed. But what does the Pit God get out of this?
Sakura also claims that everything might all just cease to exist. That made me think and think...
In the new present, chapter 120 reveals that it uses captured souls to lure the living and eat them alive, and then trap and use their souls to lure even more people, always wanting more.
Then it hit me. This entity was linked with "happiness" since its introduction.
In chapter 68, Sumire described how the villagers would say that the sacrifices would be granted eternal happiness, and we know that their souls are even now trapped inside the Red House's belly.
In chapter 120 in the new timeline, the Pit God even describes itself this way: "You'll descend to the bottom of the pit, to the land of the gods. This is happiness." It claims that everyone that's eaten up by It is "happy".
This happened in 118 too, when it said through Amane through the other souls that they should be happy, now that 2 new friends will join them. Again in 120, Kou explains that they're all trapped inside the Red House's belly.
Now, what do we know that the Red House is capable of doing? Showing people what they wish for, and what they can obtain in exchange for a sacrifice. How everyone who ever came to the Red House is trapped even now inside it, at the cost of their wish being fulfilled.
In 119 & 120, we can see how Amane's soul is kept in a moment of peace, where he is minding his own business and doing his work. He doesn't seem aware of what's going on at all.
The Seven Mysteries, therefore the Yorishiros, serve to keep the balance between the far and near shores, something devised to replace the practice of sacrificing people to the Pit God, especially after it was sealed. So if they're all destroyed... What if that would mean there's nothing to restrict the Pit God anymore? Nothing to stop it from consuming everything.
That would make Hanako and Sakura's expected outcomes one and the same. Everything will cease to exist because everything will be eaten up by this God, and all the same, the entire world will become something akin to the Red House, fulfilling everyone's desires while forever imprisoned inside its belly, granting them eternal "happiness", just like it's claimed to do.

Card Set Hanakotoba
Recently I was discussing with my lovely friend @istoleyourboat about the meanings behind the flowers in this new card set, and I felt the urge to chronicle them somewhere! I thought you guys might get a kick out of it, too, so this seemed as good a place as any to put it.
So without further ado...
1. Hanako-kun - Queen of the Night
The Queen of the Night (月下美人) is a cactus flower that blooms just once a year for a single night. Because of this, the most heavily associated meanings with the flower are "transient beauty", "fleeting love," and "the urge to see someone just once."
The short-lived life of this flower feels quite fitting for our ghosty boy! I also like how the flower looks both beautiful and unsettling...all around a fantastic choice by AidaIro.
2. Nene Yashiro - Strawberry Blossoms
If you have paid attention to the Hanakotoba in TBHK before, then Nene being associated with strawberries should be nothing new to you. Regardless, the prevalent Hanakotoba for Strawberry Blossoms (イチゴ) are "love," "innocence," and "you make me happy."
The "you make me happy" one makes me want to kick my feet around and squeal a little. Isn't that cute!? I also feel the strawberry is especially fitting for Nene because it seems like something she would grow in her Gardening Club.
3. Kou - Clivia
Otherwise known by the names Bush Lily or Natal Lily, the Hanakotoba for Clivia (君子蘭) are "sincere," "noble" and "good-hearted."
I think this all fits very nicely with our resident good boy Kou, hm?
4. Teru - Bird of Paradise
The Bird of Paradise (ストレリチア) symbolizes "faithfulness," "magnificence," "a bright future" and "superficial love."
Even at a glance this flower really pops out at you, making it a great fit for the ever-impressive Teru. I really, really love this choice!!
5. Sakura - Hellebore
Otherwise known as the Christmas Rose, the Hellebore (クリスマスローズ) represents "reminiscence," "never forget me" and "notice my woes."
The way this beautiful flower seems to cast its head down makes it look almost sad. I suppose that's why it has such pitiful meanings associated with it!
6. Natsuhiko - King Protea
King Protea (キングプロテア), also known as the Sugarbush, symbolizes "strength," "courage," "resilience," and "a king's quality."
If you notice, Natsuhiko always has a little crown-shaped tuft hidden in his hair, so AidaIro associating Natsuhiko with a flower that references royalty pleases me. There's still a lot of mystery surrounding him, but we can at least confirm that Natsuhiko is, indeed, strong and resilient.
7. Akane - Ivy
The plain, non-flowering ivy stands out in stark contrast to the other plants here, but that's because the hanakotoba for it is just that good. Ivy (ヘデラ) means "everlasting love," "I take this feeling to the afterlife," "faithfulness", and "marriage."
Like, if that doesn't scream Akane, I don't know what does.
8. Aoi - Hydrangea
Again, if you've been paying attention to Hanakotoba in the series, this will not be the first time you've seen Aoi paired with hydrangea. Regardless, hydrangea (アジサイ) represents "enduring love," "mystique," and "fickleness."
The hydrangea is also associated with rejection, more specifically the coldness of a person who rejects the romantic advances of another. It's just such a perfect Aoi flower, there's no wonder AidaIro is so attached to it.
💐🌸🌼🌻🌷🌹🥀🌺
Thank you for reading till the end! And I urge you to look up these flowers yourself and see if you can find any meaning to them I may have missed. You might find something brilliant that I completely overlooked!

The New Art Style: A Rant
●・○・●・○・●・○・●・○・●
Heads up: I don't hate the art style or the manga! These are just changes that I disliked, that you may or may have not noticed.
There are many good changes made to the art style of the tbhk manga, such as better perspective and shading, and an even more unique style, but some changes...
Nene always looked young, but how am I meant to explain to my parents that the character above is 15?
This applies to all the characters, and I feel very conflicted when I look at the changes made to some characters:
Back in the day I didn't think of Kou as cute, so when he acted cute or wholesome it was surprising and adorable, his personality was purposely opposite to his looks, as he was originally meant to look mean, or like a rebel. It's difficult for me to comprehend that the Kou in the new chapters is a few months older than before.
Kou is still my favorite character, but it doesn't feel like the same character I adored from the start of the manga.
The changes I disliked the most with Teru are the loss of features that used to tell him apart from Kou, he used to have a longer face, different pupils, smaller ears that don't stick out and a downturned nose (Which he seems to have lost). All of the boys seem to have the same face shape now, same goes for the girls.
Sakura had a mysterious and elegant aura, which is now leaning more towards cutesy, additionally her shoulders were made significantly shorter and smaller (This was done to all the characters, including the male ones, exceptions are Nene and Aoi who had that body shape to begin with)
Besides all the characters looking a few years younger, which I can deal with, arguably the most questionable change is the loss of melanin all the characters suffered:
..Yikes
Most noticeable is Kou, who used to be tanned, but take a closer look at characters like Nene too:
Art on the right is older.
Hopefully this is just part of the lighting or something and isn't what it seems to be.
Besides the line art being thicker, the contrast in pages of the manga is only getting stronger as time goes:
Opposite to now, black and dark colours are used sparingly in the first tbhk chapters, only for dark clothes and a few shadows.
The high contrast in newer (not only new but yk) chapters makes tbhk stand out from most manga, but it can strain your eyes a bit, like the panel above from ch. 119, the composition is beautiful but it takes you a minute to understand what's happening because the values are all over the place, your eyes are being lead to every direction.
The picture perfect arc seems to be a sweet spot between the art styles, and is my personal favourite. There's high contrast but it never strains your eyes, and the characters still look like themselves.
In case it wasn't obvious I just reread tbhk and have been obsessing.
I'm going to post an explanation as to why tbhk chapters feel shorter soon. Stay tuned!
