I've been getting back into tbhk lately and found your blog out of nowhere and wanted to say thank you for the great content. I've really been enjoying reading your posts !

So I wanted to ask, bc I saw you mention jp tbhk twitter, would you happen to have some twt acc recs/keywords for someone to search ? Since my hyperfixation seems to be back on tbhk/amatsuka, and I refuse to set a foot again in the cesspool pit that is the western fandom..... /shudders

from there, you can look at anyone's likes or retweets and find more branching artists and commentators to follow :3 a lot of people quiet down between things like chapter or volume releases. You'll see them explode the moment stuff is happening!!

I'll also suggest some other things to liven up your life and suckle at outside of twitter, and I hope that's useful. There is honestly so, so much out there, I don't think anyone needs to bother with most western engagements... it's enough to follow a couple of ramblers and helpful translators, a fangirl or two, and leave it at that.

there's also always a 5ch thread that updates... sometimes greatly amuses me

bilibili meanwhile is a chinese website similar to youtube (you won't be able to 'signup' for it though, as it requires an ID... if you want to save anything, you should just make a bookmarks folder in your browser. you can ignore notifications from bilibili to sign up and resume videos, so don't be intimidated. to turn off scrolling comments, click the little television symbol under the video) and there's tons of wonderful stuff there, like people doing vocal imitations of the twins and covering songs, animations to songs, AMVs, MMDs... there are some unique tags for certain trends, suchas MMD usually being tagged with 【地缚少年花子君MMD】 BUT not all videos bother, so you're best to just click around relevant things and plug in various terms and see what you get!

nicovideo also exists and you can use the tag 地縛少年花子くんMMD if you like MMD! I love this HanaNene one for Picture Perfect...

Ahh!! I was looking forward for this one!! And it’s here!! Ahhh!!

Anyway, I figured we’d be “playing” this AU event as the Minamoto siblings (Kou, in this case), but I was kinda surprised we didn’t start already at the inn. But it’s nice to see this little introduction!

Poor Aoi-chan, looks like she was harassed to the point of quitting her job… From what I understood, apparently she told Teru she was going to come back for her diary (that she got from Akane?) after she got a better job (?)…

But then she invited Akane to go with her to the spooky inn, that’s infamous for UMA sightings and people turning into cats.

Hm.

I’m unsure whether Aoi is already thinking about “disappearing” (like whoever was suicide baiting her wrote), and invited Akane to go with her for one last pleasant moment, or if her choosing the cursed cat inn isn’t that intentional, and the place is calling to her instead, because she may feel unhappy. Maybe it’s both. Maybe it’s neither. Maybe it’s something more… normal? We’ll see.

Watch it be a third, crazy option like, Aoi was a cat/bakeneko/nekotama who tried to fit in the human world, realized it sucked and now’s going back home with her bf lol

Did I ever mention here that I love Natsuhiko? Because I do. I love Natsuhiko. The funniest guy ever, hope you and your lady meet again and live happily ever after on cat heaven, Natsuhiko (lol).

On a side note, I’m curious about Natsuhiko’s earring. It’s green in the colored merchandise for the cafe, a color commonly associated with Sakura in JSHK. It’s also just one, so it might be just a fashion/style kinda thing, but it makes me wonder if Sakura may have given that to him.

Or maybe Natsuhiko just bought it because it reminded him of her. Either way, I like it, and it’s, to me, a nice parallel to the brooch Sakura always wears, which matches Natsuhiko’s hair color.

Also, lol at their small exchange about political marriages. It kinda looks like Hakubo was trying to placate/dissuade the paparazzi and Sumire took him too literally. Or maybe, in a way that’s classic them, Hakubo didn’t know that Sumire wanted to get married to him (even if it was a political marriage). And likewise, Sumire didn’t get that Hakubo likely disliked the notion that he would marry her only out of political gain, since he emphasizes on the absurdity of a political marriage. (In other words, he’s saying he’d marry her out of love)

Well, who knows. Glad to see they’re still bumbling about, the idiots.

Makes me wonder what they’re gonna do at the ryokan. Is it going to be their honeymoon? Are they eloping? Just hoping to get away from the press and their yakuza families? Did their families send them there? I mean, I doubt it, but gotta think of all the options

I am… pretty amused that they are part of the yakuza, though. I was just thinking a while ago, that if you were to write and adapt Hakubo’s story belonging to a more modern time, he’d probably be part of a mob family.

Same with Natsuhiko’s situation? Him meeting Sakura as a child and being persistent in seeing her again was one of the scenarios I had considered for them before. As in, what their backstory might be like. Good to see it’s an option in one of the AUs, haha.

Though, this one might be a common theory among the fandom? I actually don’t know.

Very peculiar that Amane is already a nekomata here, but Tsukasa doesn’t even seem to be a bakeneko (if the flashback and newspaper are anything to go by. his cat ears were also a headband in the original shikishi).

Sooo. Considering the myths around neko mata and bakeneko, I’m going to assume that:

a) Tsukasa and Amane might not be related in this AU;

b) Amane took the form of his owner (Tsukasa);

c) Amane might have started the fire.

Also, judging by Teru’s reaction towards Natsuhiko’s declaration of love, and the assumptions above, it makes me how is the “general” relationship between kaii and human in this AU.

I mean, kaii in this seem to be part of daily life; no one calls Natsuhiko crazy for seeing a beautiful bakeneko lady, nor does anyone seem to bat an eye at Hakubo the oni appearing in the news. But maybe relationships between kaii and human are looked down on? Thus, why Natsuhiko’s a “freak” for loving Sakura, according to Teru, or why the news seem to jump at the conclusion that a relationship between Hakubo and Sumire could only amount to a “political marriage”.

Teru’s comment also makes me wonder… if something’s gonna happen to him, either in this AU or in the main series soon. You can’t judge other people (specially their relationships!!) without shit happening to you. JSHK’s “talk shit get hit” cosmic rule has been pretty consistent so far after all.

Happy pride everyone!! Here’s some gay moments in jshk. 

Disclaimer: I’m not here to start ship wars and it’s fine if you don’t interpret these scenes the same as me. Also, I’m gay. 🌈🌈

Hanako-kun

He flirted with Kou because he wanted to do things that only girls could.

...and then he hurt over being rejected. Thing is, in the same chapter, he suggested peeping on girls, so it’s not like the gender change moved his sexual preferences. 

Nene

Clearly Nene is boy crazy but she’s also gotten flustered by girls.

Nene gets flustered over Aoi. Even Akane is touched.

A Kabedon is romantic trope in Japanese media where one person “traps” the other, for context. I usually see it in shoujo manga. 

Nene blushed over how beautiful Sakura is and admitted to letting her guard down because she was a babe.

Kou and Mitsuba

There’s plenty of posts on how and why Mitsuba and Kou are an implied romance and not queer baiting. I’m just focusing on a few points I rarely see brought up.

They’re associated with rainbows. Yes, rainbows are a symbol of pride in Japan too. 

In case you don’t recognize it, this one is from the end of the Valentine’s event this year, which was MitsuKou centric.

Now for gender

Sakura

Sakura doesn’t care about her gender presentation or identity. In fact, Natsuhiko is the only one in the group that does care. 

Hanako

Hanako identifies as a boy but he’s fine with feminine presentation. I don’t think this implies Hanako is queer as much as it show AidaIro normalising different gender expressions :)

He didn’t mind at all that he was turned into a girl and happily changed his clothes/hair for the day.

He’s worn feminine clothing in a few official arts and doesn’t seem distressed about it, whereas Kou definitely is. 

He wanted Nene to paint his nails along with the hands. 

Lastly, Hanako is ok with being called “Hanako.” The name “Hanako” in Japan means “flower” and is pretty exclusively a girls name.

Or is it a sign that after the school camp arc will be a Tsukasa arc? (I mean the past?), to many thought in my head maybe Aidairo just like to make it (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) sorry for bad grammar :" from your lovely fans (i hope)

A good question!

Firstly, Tsukasa has once appeared in AidaIro's header before 2020; which was during April Fools, one year. As a joke, they changed their Twitter layout to Tsukasa, as they usually had Hanako-kun front and center.

But now, Tsukasa has been showing up in AidaIro's headers consistently for the last few months; for almost half of the current arc!

It started with these two on April Fools, which coincides with how Tsukasa took over the account on April Fools once before. It was specifically tied into a promotion; AidaIro was advertising that JSHK candy was being made! (Which is... a thing I barely know about, but is surely happening at some point and somewhere, for people living in Japan!)

And then, AidaIro kept making Tsukasa headers!

First, Tsukasa with cherry blossoms! Since Spring had come, AidaIro changed the header to reflect the season, while using Tsukasa to show it.

So simultaneously AidaIro has been reflecting events within the season through their headers, while keeping them Tsukasa themed. We see Tsukasa with Koinobori for Golden Week, Tsukasa with umbrellas in the Rainy Season, Tsukasa enjoying the meteor showers of Summer...

Of course, there was then a lull with the Hanako of the Opera event (which Tsukasa was also prominently involved in), but then it picked up again afterwards with more Tsukasa headers.

I'm not sure what the goal is here, honestly. It's possible AidaIro just likes Tsukasa (or understands his great popularity with fans), and wanted to give Tsukasa a spotlight since he's totally absent from the current story arc. There might be some clues about Amane and Tsukasa's past in these, but for now I think it's simply because Tsukasa is popular and adorable.

And I cannot help but agree! I hope we continue seeing him, at least til he comes back into the story! I think it would be cool if AidaIro gave other characters a chance to shine in the headers, too, though. (Give Yako something!)

Hey Anon! Sorry for the late reply! As of now, I think that is fan art but unfortunalty I don't know who the artist is!!! I thought it was official art until people starting asking @daikonsenpai. It would have been wonderful if it was!!(´•̥ ᵔ •̥`)

I have this google folder in my drive where I just throw in a bunch of jshk art hahaha. Honestly the art style looks a LOT like Aidalro's but after going through @alltheaidairo I can't find anything. I think its because the twitter event, Hanako of the Opera, started at April 20th after they went on hiatus. The closest version that I found of that is this! (This is official art)

I'm sorry for my disappointing answer!!! Also looking at the official art they modeled Nene in the fan art with the same clothes as the Hanako of the Opera Nene.

You can see that they have the same ruffles on the dress and the hair accessory so forgive me if I thought it was official art!! (๑•﹏•)

But what I think rules it out as fan art is that Nene is pretty flat chested...

As you can see here and also looking back, I don't think Aidalro would draw Nene like that. I got to say though, whoever the artist is has got some serious skills! (b˙◁˙ )b Though the outfit between the fan art and official art are the same, the similarities to whatever Tsukasa is holding is quite similar to Nene's dress here.

So in conclusion, YES that art you asked me about was a fan art and maybe whatever Tsukasa is holding still has some resemblance to Nene's dress in the Hanako of the Opera twitter event.
