That is why often the source of chronic pain and soreness is due to situations that happened in the past where your fascial system had to adjust and compensate. In each situation, your body compensates by taking the path of least resistance and add more layers, to avoid pain, absorb the force of an impact, support poor posture, and work around a new movement limitation. What I am convinced of after years of experience, is that if one area is damaged or put under tension, it affects the balance and symmetry in other areas. Until today its mechanism is not well understood. In the absence of a scientific explanation or hypothesis of the mechanism of action, it can be interpreted as "mystical." What I say as Fascia Yoga initiator and Fascia practitioner for many years is: "It's good to listen to your body. The body knows reasons that the mind doesn't know." What is also relatively unknown is that fascia unwinding occurs because fascia tissues hold memories of trauma's. The unwinding stretches allow the body to allign and readjust to a new position of ease. At the same time release stress and tension. The unwinding process is a biostructural release which your body goes through to untwist the ways it has been structurally misaligned. This process can be naturally engaged through meditation and relaxation exercises. It does not require a voluntary act other than to let your body instinctively move in certain positions. The body will work itself out through the fascia layers. The fascia holds memory of all your tensions acquired through a lifetime, which is the main cause of most types of misalignment and bad postures. Bad posture means the body is functioning below its optimum level. When unwinding happens, parts of the body ravel up and then begin to instinctively stretch. The process of unwinding is a unique healing process that takes your body back in time, allowing old injuries to get unlocked, tensions to be released and then corrects the skeletal position.
