Disillusion - A Lady Corva AU
Tw: Character death, amputation, corruption, dark idea.
There are realities where Becky becomes the hero known as Wordgirl or a villain with a new gimmick or the same name. Other realities have Becky hop onto the villain path earlier or later in her villain career. What if there is one reality where Becky did plan to become a hero, but something happened that made that dream of hers dash away for ever, replaced with a new path.
The scene sets one day when a 7 year old Becky Boxleitner along with her monkey Bob, and her dad Steven were visiting Steven's sister who lived in another city a few hours away. So the visit happens and Becky's aunt suggests that one day, they visit the local park. Since the park was close to her aunt's house, they walked there together. The group passed by some buildings when suddenly an explosion happens right near them. Becky and her family are caught in a battle between a hero and a villain. Becky gets separated from Steven, Bob, and her aunt. Her vision is obstructed by the chaotic battle. She soon finds her dad and Bob but it is a grisly sight. The hero was tossing rubble to hit the villain and they missed. Steven and Bob who were frantically searching for Becky were in the line of attack. Bob pushed Steven out of the way to save him, but he ended up getting slammed into some broken metal beams by the rubble, causing him to get impaled as he bled to death. Steven got knocked out by some fallen debris and his right arm got squashed underneath some walls. Poor bewildered and scared Becky screamed, pushing at Bob and Steven, trying to get them to get up so they could leave and get to safety. The villain sees a crying Becky and an injured Steven and dead Bob. This villain was a bad guy but still had morals. He yelled at the hero to stop the battle and to get these injured civilians out of the way. This hero though was corrupt and only cared about fame and glory. They didn't care who got hurt as long as the villain was captured. So the villain rescued the three himself and it resulted him getting captured. At the hospital, Becky definitely suffered through a traumatic experience with seeing Bob dead and her dad seriously injured. Becky stayed with her dad and wouldn't leave his side while he was knocked out. Becky's aunt was injured from the battle as well but not as bad as her brother was. While there Becky saw on TV the hero talking who claimed the tragic deaths and injuries were the fault of the villain, making the hero look like a saint and the villain look like a monster. Becky frowned in anger in confusion. That wasn't true at all. The villain saved her and her dad. The villain cared about their safety. The villain did the hero's job. It was the hero who was the monster. When Steven woke up, Becky told her dad everything that happened. She asked him so many questions. Becky: Daddy. That hero was being a bad guy. They didn't care what happened to us or Bob. They only focused on stopping the villain. The villain saved us. I don't understand daddy? You wrote in your book how heroes are supposed to protect people and stop bad guys. To care for other's as well as their own health. Why was that hero so...corrupt? Becky could only stare as her dad developed a dark look at her inquiries. Steven told her the truth she learned too early. That not every hero was like the ones in his book. Most were corrupt and greedy individuals who only cared about themselves and looking good to the public. He wrote that book so young and upcoming heroes like her would be different, be better than the old generation. To be like those who are sadly too few and too far gone. That day, Becky's fantasy world of heroes and villains shattered. The illusion broken, Becky silently told her dad she didn't want to become a hero anymore. With one good arm, Steven hugged her tightly, he didn't blame her for her choice. That day Wordgirl would never come to be. A new type of hero would rise instead in the future. Her name - Lady Corva. @dualnaturedscientist

Every book about PTSD will repeatedly mention how your personality will change after the traumatic event. How this is an indicator that you have the disorder. How this is a universal experience for everyone who suffers from post traumatic stress.
But I never got to have a life before trauma. That person was killed before they were alive. All that remains is a broken shell from where a child was ripped out with violent teeth.
I didn't change from my trauma, because I never existed before it began.

Chat, I regret to inform you that I have added a new hyperfixation…so…
Agatha All Along Incorrect Quotes!
Alice: Hold the fuck up.
Also Alice, crawling into Lilia’s lap: It’s me. I’m the fuck up. Hold me.
Rio: I have an idea!
Jen: No murder.
Rio, sighing petulantly: I no longer have an idea.
Lilia: I have a bad feeling about this…
Agatha: What do you mean?
Alice: Don’t you ever get that little voice in the back of your head that tells you if something is going to get you in trouble?
Agatha: No.
Jen: That actually explains so much.
Lilia: As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had this little voice in my head telling me to “live it up today, because there’s not gonna be a lot of tomorrows”.
Agatha: You do realize there’s medication designed to get rid of those kinds of voices, right?
Teen: A bird flew in through my window and I’m trying to befriend it.
*later*
Agatha: Why don’t you quit bothering me and go talk to your bird friend?
Teen: Matthew and I are not speaking at the moment.
*the coven, huddling together behind a makeshift shelter to shield themselves from repeated gunshots*
Alice, hastily shoving the others behind her so she can return fire: Agatha, do you have any idea who would want to shoot you?!
Agatha, squashed between Jen and Rio: Many people want to shoot me. I take great pride in that!
Jen, glaring at the group as she hands over bail money:
Alice, tapping her shoulder: What about Teen?
Jen, glaring more: I’ve got to bail him out too? Where’s Agatha?
Teen: No one called her. We used Lilia’s phone call to call Alice and Rio’s to call you. Then Rio used my phone call to vote for American Idol.
Rio: :)
Jen: Rio isn’t answering her phone.
Agatha: Here, I’ll try.
Jen: Alice and I have tried six times each, what makes you think that-
Rio, picking up on the first ring: Hey, sweetheart.
Agatha: The ends always justify the means!
Jen: Do you know who said that?
Agatha: Was it Oprah or someone nice and great like that?
Jen: It was Machiavelli. A decidedly non-Oprah like person.
Jen: I bet you didn’t even finish the thing I asked you to get done!
Agatha: For your information, I most certainly did! Got it done last night!
Teen, whispering to Agatha: You didn’t get it done, did you?
Agatha, whispering back: I don’t even know what she’s talking about.
Lilia: I am at a loss for words!
Teen, glancing at the camera like his mom like he’s on The Office: Despite being lost for words, Lilia yelled at us for the next 45 minutes.
Agatha, carrying Señor Scratchy out of the room:
Señor Scratchy: *snuggles under her chin*
Agatha, kissing his head: You are being punished. Please stop being adorable. I love you.
Teen: I got a trampoline tent for summer sleepovers!
Jen, whispering to the other adult witches: …think of all the sex.
Alice: There are two types of people.
Rio: If you wanted to eat someone, you could put a fire under it and slowly roast them :)
Lilia: …three. Three types of people.
Jen, cautiously: I can’t believe I didn’t notice this before, but…Teen, you are a little crazy.
Teen: Aren’t we all a little crazy here, Jen?
Jen: No, I mean you’re aging-ballerina, child-chess-prodigy, professional magician kind of crazy.
Teen: It’s my mom’s fault. You know, we come from a Jewish family, but she used to tell me the reason Santa didn’t come was because my room was too dirty.
Rio: I’ve come looking for trouble. And if I can’t find trouble, I WILL create some.
Alice: Do you trust me?
Lilia, smiling proudly at her: Yes.
Alice, who has been completely panicking: Wait, what? Why?!
Agatha, awkwardly glancing around for help: Er…Alice, I’m gonna be honest, I don’t know what to say to people who are crying. So I’m just gonna hope that the tone of my voice makes you think I do, okay, sweetie?
Alice, sniffling: …thanks, Agatha.
Agatha, patting her on the back with a bit too much enthusiasm: No problem, kid.
Lilia: I told Agatha about it weeks ago!
Teen: She WHAT?
Agatha: What??? Lilia says insane shit all the time, how was I supposed to know this one was true?!
Lilia: Bank accounts are a sham created by the shadow government!
Agatha: SEE?!
BONUS:
Wanda, watching from the afterlife: so…when exactly do kids grow out of that whole emo, rebellious stage?
Lorna, shrugging: I don’t know. Alice is still in it.

Reminder that no one commits suicide for one reason. If you have had a loved one who threatened to commit suicide if you left and went through with it after you left, that is not on you. There was way more happening that you played no role in. The only thing you can do in a moment when suicide is weaponized is call for help. You are not responsible for how your loved ones cope. Especially at the expense of your safety and well-being.

hey have you ever had that moment of when your youngest sibling does a prank on an adult in your house and that adult says horrible things to your baby sibling telling them that they’re an abuser so you step in and tell the adult to quit it only for them to gaslight you into thinking that your a disrespectful brat the next day so you stop talking until someone makes you talk about your feelings in which that person goes to tell the shitty adult to stop being mean only for the shitty adult to say that they’re conspiring against them and that they’re the victim?
me neither bc that would be so super specific and weird and-

Stuff my therapist says that's hurtful but true
If, as a child, you had to constantly earn approval or fend off criticism, you may unconsciously seek partners who trigger similar patterns, perhaps in hopes of finally “winning” validation or being “enough” in a way you couldn’t achieve with early caregivers.

Abuse seemed normal and justifiable to me, the entire time I was living in it as a kid. I didn't question it, the justifications and defenses would appear in my head before I would even start to get upset about it. 'They didn't mean that, they did it to make me stronger, to teach me how hard life is. They only did it out of anger, they wouldn't have done it if I didn't make them angry. It happened because I did x. They're my parents, they're doing what's best for me. I just don't understand yet because I'm not old enough but eventually I'll get why they're acting this way.'
It feels like that when you've never had a life away from abuse; it is the only normal way of life you've ever known, and implication that it might not be normal are too scary to explore, but also completely unbelievable. Because you would have to believe that you yourself are in a special situation where normal rules no longer apply. Rules like 'your parents love you and do everything for your own good', 'you need to listen to your parents, they know what they're talking about', and 'Your parents are just trying their best'. And you feel like you're nothing special, nothing that happens to you is special, nothing is out of the ordinary, you're feeling even less than normal, you feel like something is deeply wrong with you, rather than the situation you're in. Of course your parents are normal, and mean well, it's you who needs to get their shit together and stop being, whatever you are, it's unclear.
It can seem from an outside perspective, that a child would recognize at least some of the abuse for what it was, even if subjected to the rules of 'parents love you, they know best, you need to obey them', if the abuse is extreme, but no, they wouldn't. Looking back at my experience I was able to justify not only the physical violence, neglect, insults and humiliation, but even the constant, very detailed death threats that would constantly come out of the abusers. I listened to them describe to me how they would kill me, often implying they should have killed me already, and all I thought was 'they are just saying that, they're not actually going to kill me, they're saying it because they're angry, I shouldn't take this personally'. When I think about that now, I am appalled, you would think anyone subjected to constant detailed death threats would know for sure that this is wrong. But I was also hearing about how they 'sacrificed everything for me' and 'nobody else would ever love me like this', and how could I have known, as a kid, which one of these are lies, and which are the truth? I was heavily pressured to believe that they loved me. How would I have known that my parents had reasons to convince me that their murderous intentions were fake, but the love they had for me was real?
Without a clear reference to how parental love looks like, there's no way to tell. And if you ever do see a depiction of a loving family, your abusive family will be very quick to tell you that they're "doing it wrong", "spoiling that child", and "created a selfish brat". And how would you know that this isn't true? You don't yet know that they have reasons to lie to you. You've been told they're your parents and they only want the best for you, like all parents do. They just don't want you to grow up a selfish brat, so that's why they don't do all of the listening, hugging, caring, paying attention, conversing, and advocating for you. To make sure you're strong and responsible as a human being. It makes sense when you're a kid. When you're an adult, you understand that it never made any sense, that shaming good parents only served the purpose of making you feel like you're having a normal experience, and that your parents were right to abuse you, even superior for it.
It's possible to endure any amount of abuse and to be convinced that it's normal. I've talked to adults who've been sexually abused and trafficked by their parents and still believed the parents loved them. There's no limit to what you can convince a child is normal. Any abuse can be hidden by a guise of normalcy.

Sometimes I want to laugh at how dramatic and over-the-top Wolfwood is in the scenes where they're trying to avert this disaster, and then I remember that he just watched his little brother shoot himself in the head and hasn't had a second to mourn because his mother figure and all those kids he loves dearly enough to bloody his hands for are going to die, and. I do not want to laugh anymore.
