I have a request for people with experience with wheelchairs, if you personally use/used them or have people in your life that do: PLEASE COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM TO ME! TELL ME ABOUT THE WAYS IN WHICH THEY CAN SUCK! IN GENERAL OR SPECIFICS!
I need this information for a project I'm doing in my design class, wherein my group is going to attempt to prototype a wheelchair with both offroad and indoor capabilities, per say, that is still reasonably light and inexpensive. I'm asking this of you all on tumblr because to begin our project, we need to familiarize ourselves with the nature of this problem. We want our solution to actually be made with the opinions of wheelchair users in mind. I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could reblog or comment with any gripes they have about wheelchairs, especially in relation to their maneuverability, but anything works! Thank you so much for your time!
#disability#disabled#disabilties#physically disabled#sorry about the crosstagging this is not my side of tumblr#thanks again if anyone responds! or even spreads this around#i also am very aware that a lot of these issues are societal#with infrastructure not being designed for accessibility#and the affordability issue is a pathetic healthcare system failure (at least in the US)#but alas. this is what i get for going to engineering school. i must design mere products

i hope we continue to see more protests within the US military. i see a lot of leftists and folks who are anti-military who have such an open disdain for the people who are in the military, yet neglect to considering the conditions this country makes to produce ideology, poverty, and the illusion of choice to make all kinds of people choose to enlist in the military. You ever see those videos of ROTC kids recording each other asking why they joined the military and everyone's like, "healthcare", "it helped me go to college", "I was bored" or "free ptsd lol". I hate to remind everyone but folks who are in the military are people, too, and they are the same victims and perpetrators of violence as the rest of you, we have all been shallowly conditioned to view each other as enemies just because one person is wearing army greens and the other is not.
some of the biggest anti-war advocates are those who engaged in war. Veterans who genuinely believed they were protecting the US against "terrorism" come back with blood on their hands, and they choose to realize that it was US imperialism that forced them to carry out violence, instead of doubling down and shielding themselves from the fact that they too are capable of atrocities... This is a class of people who are intentionally conditioned to be as poor and as ideologically aligned to US imperialism so that the military has a never-ending pool to send their youth to destroy other country's youth. The only people I have ever heard say "do not join the military" are those who ARE military.
This is in no way to ever excuse or explain away any of the atrocious war crimes and violence this industry and its people have committed against others. What I am saying is that we absolutely cannot cast aside the individuals who have been victimized within US imperialism, even if they are wearing army greens. I was speaking with my Palestinian classmate last week and another classmate--a member of the US air force-- walked up to me and struck up a conversation. My military classmate showed me her new bird, bid both of us goodbye, and left. My Palestinian classmate asked me if I was close with her, and I said we talked quite often, and she said, "I never met a person who's in the military. I still hate the military, but I never knew that they did, too. I didn't realize that they were also victims."
If my Palestinian classmate--one who is actively watching her own community die--can understand that it is not individuals who are the problem but it is in fact systems, US imperialism, white supremacy, capitalism...why can't we all? And she has EVERY reason to hate any individual military member. A lot of online activism just creates more barriers. if your optics look bad, complicated, or contradictory, you are cast aside. Everyone has got the be the perfect activist, you can never make a mistake or share a half-baked thought, you should always believe every word from a marginalized persons mouth (because being marginalized doesn't mean you're not entrenched in white supremacy too!) and you should never question what you see...Do you know what you sound like? The very imperialists who are convincing poor whites to vote against themselves. Perfectionism is white supremacy. Black & white thinking is white supremacy.
I'd rather have a military member who genuinely believed in the US imperialism machine but was disillusioned after being deployed as my comrade than some leftist who cherishes the performance of "being a good person". I don't want "good people" in our movements. I want humans who care. I want humans who make mistakes and who learn from them. I want humans who accept the messiness of a person. I want humans who hold others accountable and allow themselves to take responsibility for their actions. I want people who change for themselves and others.
fight systems, not individual people. we can change each other, but if we're too preoccupied looking like the World's Perfect Activists, we will only consume each other alive. Connect to your fellow humans, forever and always.
#muertotalks#a mind dump after seeing so much come out after the self immolation of the us air force member#i know hes not the first one to self immolate for palestine#and he might not be the last#i hate the military#i really fucking do#but i choose to see the people within them as victims within the overall system just like the rest of us#i will never go through what they did to make them choose to enlist#i never struggled with poverty homelessness healthcare or social acceptance#i wont shame them#shame is not productive#i want them to know there are civilians who support their protests#i want them to know that we their allies too#a note on my palestinian classmate#if youre arab or also a colonized person impacted by the us military feel free to hate every member of the military#i dont intend to police yall in how you choose to feel your anger#im angry with you#the point i mean to make is about understanding and compassion#someone who has every right to hate these people still chose to see them as the people they are#yes i even want the best for the “bad” people in the military too#i dont want these people to continue the ideology but we cant stop that without dismantling these systems#and we cant do that without creating spaces for healing and reform and growth#so many thoughts so many thoughts#none of this is easy#i fight daily against impulsively hating the world#everyday is a fight to choose compassion and understanding#but being a leftist and doing leftism is not fucking easy#if you genuinely think it is it isnt#and you may be missing the point of what leftism is#anyway

skincare practices
skincare refers to the practice of maintaining and improving the health and appearance of your skin. this post is a guide on where to start!
having a routine (starting with simple practices)
cleanser: begin and end your day by washing your face with a gentle, sulphate-free cleanser. even if your skin feels clean, this step removes any impurities.
moisturizer: apply a fragrance-free moisturizer twice a day. hydration is crucial for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
sunscreen: protect your skin from uv damage by using a mineral- or chemical-based sunscreen with at least spf 30. apply it in the morning.
skin types
there are 5 primary skin types, each with unique characteristics and needs.
normal skin is balanced and not too oily or dry. it's like the goldilocks of skin types! maintain it with a gentle routine. if your skin is generally normal, opt for a lotion. as you age, consider switching to a cream-based moisturizer for added hydration.
dry skin lacks hydration, feels tight, and may have flakiness. opt for richer moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. for dry skin, skip lotions and go for creams or ointments. these provide more moisture and help preserve water in the skin.
oily skin produces excess oil, especially in the t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). use lightweight, oil-free products and consider salicylic acid for acne-prone areas. if you’re prone to oiliness, choose a light gel-based moisturizer to avoid clogging pores.
combination skin is a mix of oily and dry areas. focus on balancing - light moisturizers for oily zones and richer ones for dry areas. treat your face as two zones. moisturize the dry areas and skip the oily ones. remember to look for spf 30 or higher for sun protection!
sensitive skin is prone to redness, irritation, and reaction. choose fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products and patch-test any new products.
common skincare mistakes
skipping sunscreen. sunscreen is non-negotiable! protect your skin from uv damage by using spf 30 or higher daily. if you live in a sunny environment, make sure to reapply before you go outside!
not cleansing before bed: properly cleanse your face before sleeping. it removes dirt, makeup, excess oil, and pollution remnants, preventing breakouts and maintaining healthy skin.
sleeping with makeup on. gross! no! remove your makeup before you go to bed to prevent clogged pores and skin irritation.
using too many products. overloading with products can overwhelm your skin, so learn how to simplify your routine. additionally, using products that are not right for your skin may have negative effects - creating more issues instead of solving them.
overusing acne products. be gentle with acne treatments. overuse can lead to dryness and irritation.
using harsh products. avoid aggressive ingredients that strip your skin. opt for gentle formulations.
remember - healthy skin starts with mindful habits.

thank you for reading! i get a lot of skincare practice asks, so i figured it was about time i had a good response.
as always - if you're troubled by your skin take yourself to see a professional. they are specially trained to help you with your problems. this post will only be able to share with you what i have researched. definitely have a look into some of the 'further reading' links - it's so important to learn about (and determine your skin type).

If watching/performing abortions in the 3 years of studying midwifery tested my pro-choice mindset then seeing the utter relief and the magnitude of thankfulness our clients had for us strengthened it just as much. I was pro-choice before being involved in their care and my god I am even more so now. Every abortion I've been involved with has been a truly eye-opening and positive experience where I've met some of the most incredible people. The strength of every person that comes into the clinic shouldn't be understated - it isn't a decision that's ever made lightly and for most cases involves a lot of inner turmoil. It's important to remember that banning abortion doesn't stop it from happening, it stops it from happening safely.
#james says things#tw: abortion#if you don't support reproductive rights go ahead and unfollow me#very passionate about this area#abortion rights#abortion is healthcare#reproductive rights#also it was more seeing the products post abortion that tested me than anything#it'll never be enough to change my mind though

[01.10.2024; first day of my challange]
So my dears, I need to do a glow up by the end of this year. Remember what resolutions you had? I do. I wanted to be more organized, study better, write a journal, exercise at least 3x a week and more. It was different this year, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Ultimately, I am better now than I was at the beginning, but I am not the best I can be. I decided that I had to make my own challenge that would be a combination of "75 hard" and "100 days of productivity". I called it just "quarter project" because it is scheduled to last for the last three months of this year. I guess it's time to learn the rules.
Rules of "quarter project"
Stick to your diet, 1200 kcal, no "cheat" meals and alcohol
Drink at least 2.5 liters of water (we counting only water)
Read for at least 20 min AND audiobook/podcast episode
Minimum 50 minutes of study (Studying for final exams, lessons and languages)
Write a daily journal with a description of your day, gratitude and affirmations
Gym 3x a week and 3k steps every day
make a daily Tumblr post, insta & progress photo
not skipping skincare routine
Maximum 4 hours using the phone
Sleep 7-8 hours a day
Take a step towards realizing your dreams
If you also want to do this challenge with me, you can also use your own rules.
XOXO culivio

week 2: she lives! she breathes! she’s beautifully unconventional (aka getting my mojo back)
Real courage is in trying to stay calm despite the chaos happening around and within you.
I have to keep swimming even if I don't know if my efforts will bear the fruits I expect (so far, since leaving high school, nothing about my life path has gone the way I expected. and that's just what real life is sometimes). There is meaning and purpose in the process (the fact that I keep taking baby steps towards my goals is already an achievement worth taking pride in! 👣).
Academics:
Read course announcements
Signed up for global health group
Wrote down meeting dates
Finished M1 global health (so...remember how i said some of it felt kind of "woo-woo" to me? well. we're past that now. things just got real. it might be a bs course aimed at ticking that "is empathetic and cares about humanity" checkbox for premed students applying to med school, but! global health is genuinely important and dammit if i don't treat it like the serious and important issue it is, then who am i? [context: the discussion post assignments i had to do for this week reminded me of why i'm taking this course...beyond the fact that it's required for health sci and supposedly birdy 😅])
Finished M1 immunology by Tuesday
Finished M2 immunology by Thursday
Started M2 microbiology
Reviewed some immunology flashcards
Completed microbiology quiz
Finished first pathology assignment but still have to check the last question and send tmr 🙈
Completed first two global health assignments
Completed immunology quiz
Dropped cell phys course
the amount of content i have to remember in each course is insane so i've resorted to using screenshots of the slides in my flashcards which in theory should allow me to focus more on actually reviewing the flashcards. sometimes i forget tho. and that's annoying because (a) it slows me down and (b) because my keyboard keys keep getting stuck and it hasn't been given a proper clean in ages and every time i use it it's a reminder of yet another thing i haven't done yet 😅
Health:
Pilates x3
Yoga x1
Journal x3
Meditate x4
Other life things:
Changed bedding
Laundry
Reading (designing your life / the secret adversary)
Morning nature walk and sniff 🌲 (i have been taking for granted the little pleasures i'm lucky to have in my life in the busy-ness of school. i'm glad i made a good morning bingo i can look back on to remind me of some of them. 🥺😌)
Cleaned house
Met up with some family friends
Music in My Head:
Unravel
Show
Changes (i always forget the name of this song even tho it never changes lol 😅 but i love it and the frogs sm)
Watashi wa saikyou
Träumerei
Things I'm looking forward to:
Waking up without feeling sleepy ✨
Learning stuff I need for the lab-hopeful 🤓
More pilates 💓 (the slow kind because i get to notice to how alive i feel instead of how i feel like i'm dying because it's too fast and difficult for my level 😂 and yet when i go slow, i'm still getting stronger! 💪🏻😃)
Learning the pathology of leukemia 🔬
Applying my newfound immunology knowledge to the first assignment on covid 👩🏻🔬
Being done with all my work for the week 😌
My not-bingo bingo so far this September:

What I did today
from 8:45 to 12:15, I studied suspect species for the mycology course
read a book on the wildlife of the Alps by A. Perini
drove 100 km again to return home (I already miss my boyfriend)
stopped to buy some radicchio plants for the winter (I got six different varieties) and a bag of soil (which a young man kindly helped me carry to the car since the bag weighed almost as much as I do, lol)
when I got home, I repotted the plants into containers, which I then moved to my balcony where they will stay warm for the winter
while I was at it, I did a bit of gardening too
in the evening, I took a sunset walk with a long-time friend and our dogs—the sky was absolutely spectacular
Today, I felt really good. I deleted all social media apps from my phone, including Pinterest and YouTube, except for the messaging apps I use to stay in touch with university colleagues and my family. Altogether, I was under two hours of screen time, mostly because I was studying a PDF since I didn’t have my computer.
On my way back home towards the mountains, I noticed it was snowing quite a bit on the higher peaks on the horizon. Even though I live in a valley, it was very cold when I got out of the car, but it's quite pleasant after such a hot summer.
Oh, and one last thing—some family friends arrived from America, and something that made me smile was that the girl from New York, despite the jet lag, admitted that she already felt rested and her nervous system was relaxed because of the valley's silence, which she’s not used to.
(I’m writing this from the computer, in case it wasn’t clear.)

🌫️ Sept. 27, 2024 🌫️
Today I:
Had yet another interview
Worked on TEFL methodology course
Practiced spanish
Edited my friend’s story
I love editing for friends SO much. It’s so wonderful to be able to comb through their stories and learn how each author, each friend, works and thinks and creatively approaches situations. I love being able to talk to the authors, too! I get to share my earnest reactions to scenes, make silly comments in the margins, and text them over dramatic or surprising moments. How cool is that?? I get to explore entire worlds made by people I love, and then I get to talk about the experience of exploring it with them?? WOW!

“Don't look at me like I’m basic” (Byun Baekhyun, 2024)
✨💙 hello! you can call me chu (๑>◡<๑)
I’m a 29 year old woman from Brazil who loves to read, to write and to study. My main hobby is to learn foreign languages and so far I’ve studied English, Spanish, German, Italian and French. I'm a Korean langblr (beginner level) and a studyblr of Comparative Philosophy. I have a homemade scented candle company, so I’m also a workblr most of the time.
I reblog a lot of posts about my favorite group of all time: EXO, and also about my favorite members (Sehun, Kyungsoo and Baekhyun), but you can also see other Korean artists here. I'm a huge anime fan, so you'll definitely see stuff from One Piece, Naruto (mostly Sasusaku) and a lot of content from my biggest emotional support: Studio Ghibli. I also love playing Stardew Valley and I've been a Harry Potter fan since I was 7 years old (Ravenclaw here).
Although I’m currently doing a productivity challenge, my mental health is always my biggest priority because I struggle with anxiety, autism spectrum, skin picking disorder and ADHD. Recently I completed a 100 days challenge for my mental healthcare and you can check these posts by following #100 days of mental healthcare or my personal tag #chu diaries.
Overall, I see this blog as a safe place where I can truly be myself 💙✨
