I love to see all the posts and asks about your training and maximums and stuff, and I鈥檇 love to know how you spend time with such a powerful heart like that when it鈥檚 just chillin out. What do you appreciate most about its feel/sound or what鈥檚 something u like to do when it鈥檚 beating at its slowest?
I've actually really begun appreciating and enjoying how my heart functions at rest the past year or two, I've been such an intense "heart maximalist" chasing high rates and intense arrhythmia that I didn't really get into it until my heart started slowing down and enlarging. (That and my heart literally cannot go as fast as it used to. I would kill to go over 200 again.)
My heart is big. My heart is especially big for my body. It's rubbing against both lungs, my ribs, my spine, my pushing my diaphragm enough to move my liver, my right ventricle even protudes into my sternal notch so that my stomach pulse is actually not just my abdominal aorta but actually partly my beating heart.
Because of that I don't just feel my heart beating at all times, I feel it in detail. I can feel the shape of my left ventricle inside me, I can feel the right against the back of my sternum, I can feel my atria higher up in my chest. Partly from the size and partly from my heart obsession. Possibly also the "mind muscle connection" a lot of bodybuilders use, which is just a practice of hyper awareness of movement inside the body.
It feels *amazing*. I'm honestly so glad I'm a cardiophile because I think it would drive a normal person insane. I have to actively tune it out sometimes.
I really love my heart rhythm at rest. You get used to it, but feeling your heart just sort of hanging loose and full inside of your chest, waiting almost 2 full seconds between beats, actually feels really good when it's in a healthy context. It's like the thrill i get seeing myself pass a mirror and seeing how muscular I've gotten, just kind of a 'wow' moment. I feel very accomplished.
My heart has also gotten fairly irregular at rest. I had it checked for this and it's definitely benign, so I just enjoy it. It's because my heart is so slow my heart's backup pacemaker (AV node) will start competing with the primary (SA node). I get a ton of random, lurching, intense but brief flutters. I just love being able to feel one of my heart chambers overfilling or spasming. It makes it feel huge and powerful.
Often at rest I just like to sit around and feel it beating inside me, occasionally palpating all the spots on my chest where it nearly sticks out of me.
On audio, I love how you can hear how long it takes my heart to fill. A noticeably long time between valve closures as my heart lets itself hang open. It's really cool to compare to other people's resting hearts, you can hear how my pump is taking big lazy gulps where others sound very snappy. I also love comparing it to my heart working hard, you can really hear it working harder at increasing exercise load as my heart continues to increase its stroke volume along with the rate. Then the rapid deceleration as well. It's wild to me to think of people exercising and their hearts are still taxed and fast for almost an hour later. I max my heart out and it's down to 60 in 3 minutes, back to the 30s within 5.
Sheesh i love talking about my heart lol
