@floustian Here, since I had a lot to say and also wanted to give you the opportunity to reread what I said. I wasn't defensive before, but I am now because you've proven to be reading me in bad faith.
Check the number of assumptions you're making about me, my motivations, and my feelings on Tolkien as a person. I'm a goddamn individual like anyone else is.
This is an era of trying to drag down as many people as possible under the guise of awareness, whether they're perpetrators or not. So I asked about motivations behind sharing. You notice though that I didn't accuse OP of anything.
I asked about what justice there was yet to be done for victims by spreading this. Have you answered that? Tell me, what does this do for the above victims described?
This incident of one of many perpetuated by the Catholic Church and their power structures. What does this one specific incident, shared for no reason other than it's connection to a famous author, do that others have not? What's the goal? Even OP said they they weren't sure they should share.
Hey! I am going to talk briefly about the sexual abuse allegations against Fr John Tolkien (as in JRR Tolkien's eldest son). I have no idea how to start this post, nor really how to write it, nor even really that I should?
But I've known this for a long while now and been holding it in the back of my head for all that time and I have never seen it mentioned by anyone, which does seem wrong to some degree. Like we have all these private notes from JRR Tolkien and there's a whole film about his life and Edith's too, and there is this very curated view of the Tolkien family as a whole. But this is relagated to niche wiki entries. Like you have to click on Fr John Tolkien's specific wiki entry to read about this, it is not included in his summary on the main 'tolkien family' page. And, kind of notably, the most prominent accuser died extremely bitter about it's suppression, his daughter says "It tortured him. Until the last 12 months of his life, it was all he spoke about." [source]
John Tolkien, as in JRR Tolkien's eldest son, was accused by at least six individual men (then boys) of sexual abuse when he was a catholic priest. Christopher Carrie was the first and I think only one to do so publically, but after he did so others came forward with their stories. We know about this because of an IICSA investigation that was conducted after the whole catholic priest abuse story broke. You can read about their specific investigation into John Tolkien [here]
None of these allegations were prosecuted due mainly to John Tolkien being nearly at the end of his life by the time he was officially accused, though Christopher Carrie recieved a settlement from the archdioscese for 15000£. However, the only other thing I will add to all this is that according to the Guardian, Carrie, and Carrie's family he actually went to John Tolkien's home to confront him about the abuse before accusing him. And in a recording Carrie took of the conversation, John Tolkien (who had alzheimers) claimed to not remember if he had done it. He did, however, claim to have been abused himself as a child in his home by one of his father's friends, though he doesn't name anyone. [source]
So, that's it! I found this out a few years ago because I wondered why we hear a lot about Edith, Christopher and Michael from the published Tolkien letters, but John is kind of absent. My guess is this is why. My hope is people will agree that this is information that should be known? But I could be wrong about that, and of course legally speaking this was never and can never be proven whatsoever.

Imagine Andrew in the supermarket with Neil and he sees a little kid, a seven year old, holding his mother's hand. He sees the mother putting toys in the cart. He sees her bending down to talk to him, to kiss his head and ruffle his hair. He sees the kid laughing, smiling, so innocent, so happy.
And he is frozen for a second.
Because when he was seven, someone looked at him and forced their way into his bed. Because when he was seven, so tiny, so innocent, so frail, someone took advantage of him. Because when he was seven, he was an object to those around him. He wasn't a human. He wasn't loved.
He looks at the kid and the only thing he can think is:
How could someone do the things they did to me when I was seven? How did they look at me, so defenceless, so desperate to be loved, and hurt me like they did? I was a child. I was a child.
He takes Neil's hand and he squeezes it tight. And if he later pays for the mother's shopping, well that's no one else's business.

Proof that minors are being groomed by PRATS.
This user thinks that the age of consent should be abolished, and that children of any age should be allowed to be in sexual relationships with adults and thinks you can’t be youth lib if you disagree with this. Everyone with a brain knows that, yes, pubescent minors can consent, TO EACH OTHER.
There’s nothing wrong with teenagers having sex, but it’s not healthy for them mentally, to engage in sexual relationship with grown ass adults even if it’s “consensual” as the consent that teenagers give to adults is usually the result of prior grooming (I should know because that happened with me) and there’s countless reliable studies and victim word of mouth recounts proving this.
Children can’t consent to adults, simple as that and hope that “AAM” radqueers realise this and get help.
This account also thinks that “cracker” is just as bad as a slur for white people as the n-word is for black people even though cracker doesn’t have the horrible history behind it like the n-word does, so yeah there’s that…
Conclusion: Radqueers are groomers, pass it on.

CW: Discussion of CSA and trafficking
I originally wrote this meta in response to a retrospring anon - These are my thoughts on the impact of child abuse on Thistle's ability to form relationships or feel attraction.
Keep in mind as you read that this is based on my personal interpretation of Thistle as a present-day teen who was trafficked for several years before being taken to the golden kingdom. This meta is canon-adjacent, not canon, and can be considered supplementary info for my fics.
-
Thistle has a heaping pile of trauma centered on interpersonal relationships and intimacy. This, along with his lifespan, inhibits him from forming equal relationships with others, and outside of his very small family group he doesn’t feel safe or capable of reaching out to people or letting people in.
He can feel attraction towards others but he shuts it down and doesn’t act on it because it feels like something bad will happen if he does. I consider him to be more comfortable around men than he is with women because he thinks he knows what he can expect from men (men were the main perpetrators of his abuse, but men like Freinag and Delgal are also the most important relationships in his life), but he has no idea what to expect from women. Best to avoid them. Most of his attraction is towards men as well and that complicates things due to the likelihood that these historical fantasy tall-man societies are homophobic - and Thistle isn’t treated like a man but he also isn’t a woman, so is it allowed? Is there something wrong with him for feeling this way? He doesn’t know. It isn't safe. So he keeps it all to himself.
In my timeline, Thistle doesn’t start puberty until a few years before the kingdom is turned into a dungeon. He never has the typical experience of crushes and childhood romance because he has no peers to engage in them with - his slower aging and his race isolate him. Everyone sees the silly little elf jester first and not the person. All he has is the royal family. Delgal goes through puberty, fools around, gets married, and through it all Thistle only understands that behavior like it’s something he’s read about in a book. He's disturbed by it too, having only had negative experiences with human sexuality, as little as he remembers of it. As an aside, I think when Thistle was brought to the castle he briefly had a crush on the king, but it was a child’s harmless emotion directed towards someone safe who he perceived as having saved him. If you’ve ever had a strong attachment towards a teacher or mentor growing up it was like that, and Freinag wasn’t aware of it and did not encourage it.
This is going deep into headcanon territory now. Thistle was trafficked by the troupe master of the traveling performers who had him before he was given to King Freinag. Thistle has suppressed the entire thing and can’t clearly recall the last twenty years of his life before Freinag. The information he has about that time is what people later told him (“your parents abandoned you”, “you were part of a traveling troupe”, “you already knew how to play the flute and follow instructions well”, etc). Freinag unintentionally replicates the emotional abuse that Thistle suffered — he calls Thistle his child but treats him more like a pet who has to perform for approval, and he is overly physically affectionate while neglecting the very real parental needs Thistle has as a young child. Thistle's hurt is like a barely scabbed over wound that keeps being picked at until it bleeds again.
Thistle grows up with an incorrect idea of how adults are allowed to treat him which leads to wariness towards everyone who is not the immediate royal family. They’re safe, they don’t do anything bad, but he can’t trust anyone else. Plus - he doesn’t like when strangers single him out for being an elf. He wants to fit in so badly and instead they invade his space and point out how he’s different and are always reaching for his ears. The few times he feels attraction he suppresses it on instinct without trying to understanding what it is or what prompted it. He doesn’t want to feel drawn to anyone he isn’t already close to. It’s a self-preservation mechanism and a reaction to the abuse he suffered, and after a while the curiosity is blocked off altogether.
In a post-canon future where he’s found a will to live and is healed to the point where he is interested in meeting new people, I still think he wouldn’t want to have an intimate relationship. It’s like a chasm, a frightening abyss of possibility for new experiences but also for getting hurt, and he has been hurt too many times already. Friendship would be daunting enough - I genuinely think he’d struggle with it - but anything more is equivalent with ruinous loss of control in his mind. Things can get better with time, conscious work, and understanding, but this mindset is where I see him staying for a long while. Thistle doesn’t do well with change or admitting truths to himself that he’s worked very, very hard to suppress.

A/N: I saw the positive reception that my Barbi hcs and I wanted to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you kindly!! I always find myself feeling apprehensive on deviating from the fandoms I usually write for, so the fact that you all seemed to liked my Barbi content means a lot! (〃^▽^〃)
In the spirit of things, I decided to try my hand at baking a batch of hcs for our lovely, awful Police Sergeant Coyle! I will admit that his character was a little bit more difficult to write for since there's a lot uncomfortable themes and ideals related to his character. However! I welcome the challenge and hope that these turned out okay. Lemme know what y'all think!!
!Content Warning!: There's a passing mention of CSA/Childhood Sexual Abuse since the comics implied that it happened, and while it's only mentioned very briefly, it's better to play it safe
General Leland Coyle Headcanons:
╔═══━━━─── • ───━━━═══╗
Ever since his father served in the military briefly in WWII, which subsequently left the older man an invalid– having lost a foot and permanently unable to walk normally– Leland was left to carry out most of the physical labor around him and his family’s cattle farm. Pa would still insist on bossin’ him around, though, and Leland usually had to be the one to help him walk the fields while dealing with the cattle. Of course, once he joined the local police force, most of those duties fell upon his ma.
Granted, in his ever charming views, he always thought Ma did a crap job of the physical work, so he’d usually take over anyway. All the while he and Ma argued back and forth on the fields.
An average day, if he wasn’t off dealing with police duties, he’d watch the cattle and make sure they’ve eaten and prod any escapees back into the fields. He was none too gentle, either, and he’s earned his fair share of bruises and narrowly avoided a few nasty kicks. Leland’s even got a particularly nasty scar on his lower abdomen from getting gored by a rowdy heifer. It luckily wasn’t deep enough to get him sent to the hospital, but boy did his parents ridicule him for being dumb enough to let it happen in the first place.
Cannot cook for the life of him. Pa drilled it into his head that cooking was a woman's job, so he never really bothered to learn. All of the housework was handled by his wives, and god forbid if they wanted a break from it… During the brief stints between each marriage, Leland’s survived off diner food, cigarettes, coffee, and the occasional frozen tv dinner.
On the other hand, however, he’s completely fine with a man cooking if it’s to handle a grill. Hell, Pa was the one to teach him how to prepare meat after they’ve sent their cattle off to the slaughterhouse, and goddamn can he cook a mean steak. Now that he thinks about it, Leland sometimes wished he paid more attention on how to make fried chicken when his Ma tried to show him…
The Coyle family were devout Christians and attended Sunday mass each week. Of course, Leland doesn’t practice the religion much as he grew older, but much of the values taught to him remained; most of them perverted to fit his ideals.
Thanks to his chronic smoking habit, Leland’s appetite is close to nonexistent. He does it so much that the other officers of the Blackwell Police Department often joked about how Sergeant Coyle’s office may as well have been an oven with how much smoke emanated from his office. However, given how he’s the one to handle most of the paperwork until the asscrack of dawn, and with only a cigarette and numerous cups of coffee littering his desk to keep him going, no one really complained.
Usually shaves his head during the summer time. Sure, he’s a vain man, but it’s become a habit after his time in the military. Not to mention that it usually helped him keep cool during the days where he toiled in the fields with the sun beating down on he and Ma. The habit followed him into the Sinyala facility, where staff usually had to shear him down since, though he’s a Prime Asset and thus has special privileges, he’s still not to be trusted with anything sharp.
Has extensive firearm training. Pa first showed him how to handle a rifle whenever the farm had to deal with coyotes and stray dogs that harassed the livestock. On the offtime there wasn’t anything to shoot, young Leland was usually spotted by the fence posts in the outer perimeter of the farm, practicing his aim with a few cans and empty bottles. Which eventually graduated to shooting at any unlucky birds or cats that wandered too close to the property. He was also put in charge of putting down any sickly cattle, too, after Pa was left crippled.
His aim only got better thanks to his time in Okinawa. He’s got more experience in rifles and pistols, but he has a natural knack for machinery, and he’s a quick learner. Not to mention that he follows gun safety to a fuckin’ T…. Which only made him even more offended when he learned that some deformed, baby-talkin’ runt got a gun before he did in Sinyala.
Usually has a sore back after trials. Sure, he can handle lugging around that pontiac car battery on his back for hours if he needed to, but goddamn is that thing heavy. First thing he does after a trial is stretch until he hears his back pop.
Suffers from really nasty night terrors. Going back to his comic and how it briefly touched on how Leland’s exhibited signs of CSA, it’s highly possible that much of the abuse occurred behind closed doors and at night, where everyone else was asleep. He’s avoided sleep like the plague since then. Both as a means of trying to protect himself and not have to deal with constantly reliving the incident. He’s never talked to anyone about it, and refuses to do so.
He’s also coped with it via hypersexualising himself and inflicting pain on others. It gives him a sense of control and a rush of power that was stripped away from him. Silently vowed to never let himself be that vulnerable again.

I'm transfem, but I feel like my experience with gender seems very different from how I see other trans people describing their experiences with their genders. I really want to know if this is something that is unique to me or something others can relate to so if any trans folks see this post please feel free to rb with an explanation of how you feel about your gender and if it relates to what I talk about here.
I don't really feel like I have an internal sense of my gender, like people talk about dysphoria being a difference between how you feel about yourself, and how others perceive you, but I never felt that. I wanted to be a girl because I wanted to be treated the way people treat girls. Like I wanted to be seen as desirable and pretty and a little weak. I don't really have any intrinsic connection to womanhood other than that it's the gender that is seen the way that I want to be seen. I mostly just wanted to feel like I was wanted. I don't really even know what a gender identity feels like beyond that.
We have DID and autism so we mask a lot in social interactions and we also have different alters for being alone and being social, which obviously complicates things. But still, we're all therians in this system. We all know what it feels like to have an intrinsic connection with something, to identify with it. We don't feel that with womanhood, yet we're so desperate to be seen as a woman.
We were a victim of csa so we think it might be connected with that. Maybe that experience taught us that our value comes from being sexually desirable and so we want to be seen as a woman to feel like we're worth something? Idk. It's hard to put into words, hopefully this made some kind of sense. I'm curious to see if others have had similar experiences with gender, or if it's really just us.

True Crime can be interesting sometimes but other times you have a whole swath of people who I can only assume have negative brain cells who think, because of 1 documentary and the flimsiest evidence imaginable, that a 9-year-old with no actual documented history of deviant behavior before nor since, fashioned a complex garrotte, sexually assaulted his sister, and then bashed her over the head killing her, all because she allegedly ate a bit of his snack.
Seriously if you think Burke killed Jonbenét Ramsey you're a fucking idiot and you need to learn like, 14-year-old levels of critical thinking. Even me at my little age of 16 when that documentary came out was like ".... This seems like an incredible stretch and like this documentary has a disingenuous agenda." If whole ass adults can't reckon that out, it's no mystery to me why our society is failing sideways.
"tHe PiNeApPlE" so these siblings shared a snack that the parents didn't mention or weren't aware of. What ground-breaking evidence. "BuT tHe GoLf ClUb" you mean the hearsay that one family friend said that Burke had thwacked his sister with a golf club at one point as young kids? That was never documented in any police or medical records? You're so right, what incontrovertible proof.
Yeah. That seems like sufficient evidence to try and destroy a family and a person's life over. It's not like the Ramseys were documented to have given out dozens of keys to their home at parties, or that putting a little girl in hypersexualized pageants would maybe attract stalkers and child abusers who would seek to harm her. It's not like the DNA didn't match Burke, or anyone in the household, for that matter. It's not like the father hasn't been consistently trying to get the DNA re-tested which, if he was protecting his son, would be extremely counter-intuitive.
Grow a fucking brain.

Jeffy's 20th Birthday vs Masquerade: How one message failed and another one fixed it.
Cw // CSA, SA, ABUSE, Child Abuse
Note: I am aware that SML has in the past did tasteless shit, but in this entire video, it has handled it properly. SML is capable of handling serious topics in which Hazbin failed to do.
SuperMarioLogan is a puppet indie tv webseries where Logan Thirtyacre and a bunch of his friends record videos that were originally for adults but has somehow catered to kids.
These videos are true edgy, and inapproperiate and somewhat even NSFW. Today we'll be talking about Jeffy's Birthday. Which was uploaded 10 days after my 20th birthday.
Jeffy's 20th Birthday comprised heavily of flashbacks abour Jeffy's childhood, and compared to Masquerade was handled better than what the message was about, it didn't have the main villain act all goofy and menacing and it showed that the person being abused did not like it.
In J2B, Feebee was sexually assaulted by CJ, and we see the mental toll it took on both her and Jeffy. Jeffy was obviously traumatized due to his guilt of not protecting his sister. Even mentions of the guy flies Feebee into fear.
Fear.
In which Val lacks to put into Angel Dust, to me, Angel Dust seems like he wants the poison. I know some victims go back to their abusers, but Angel Dust only did because it was for plot reasons and a major disagreement with Husk. It seems forced and almost for the sake of people wanting HuskerDust.
Angel compared to Feebee feels no genuine fear, other than having a panic attack at the end of Poison, he for the most part spends his time listening to Val's abuse. If anything, it seems like Angel tolerates being yelled. Which is a form of abuse.
Feebee reacting negatively to being SA by CJ coupled with the fact of Jeffy bearing witness to his sister's abuse caused him to hurt CJ, what has Husk done in order to stop Val?
Nothing.
He has done nothing to stop Val, other than to babysit Angel Dust at the "consent" club, Husk is NOT suitable to be Angel Dust's partner, he's just babysitting a grown man who Made his choices and every now and then he's living like there's no tommorrow.
Angel Dust's poor characterization and sudden switchup seems forced, and unlike Feebee was "able" to stick up to his abuser, Feebee never had the chance to do so.
She died after getting hit by a truck (more precisely Woody's truck.), by the end of the video, Jeffy advenges his sister and kills CJ.
So in conclusion, Jeffy's 20th Birthday showcases actual trauma and reactions by a victim of abuse. Rather than Angel Dust, who we see is being babysat by Husk in Episode 6. It's ridiculous to think he's supposed to represent a victim of abuse when its giving me mixed signals.

Hi! I apologize if it's not 100% in your stands. I'm not sure where to ask. This isn't "can I write about X". I try to just think with others, if you may have advice?
I was thinking about writing a story, in which MC is HIV-positive.
The thing is. He dies in a part of the story, and then comes back with a new body. Which is very much "healing" trope.
Another thing I'm not sure about is that he was in sex work as a minor.
Problem: I don't want to stereotypical, or bring stigma.
Thing is, if I go this root:
It brings a whole new underlayer to his story.
1. He was a superhero as a teen (that's how he dies).
2. when he comes back, he's a crime lord. But very in helping people. It's important to me to add that he's funding PEP and PREP for sex workers, and an anonymous free clinic.
I know this can all be made by having a side character with HIV, but. I want to talk about it (and shame and stigma and life long implications of things).
Background: I'm not HIV-positive, but I do have an invisible disability, and was/am in sex work. We never see STDs in fiction or treatment (I know it's not the only way to transform HIV, I'm talking in general.)
Thank you ❤️
Hello, thank you for your ask! I don’t know how revival works in your story, but there are plenty of ways to bring him back without curing him! I’m assuming his ‘old’ body won’t be used, but what if his blood needed to be used to make the new body? You could also change it to make his previous body used to make the new one. He could even briefly go back to sex work to fund his plans and contract it again. There’s so little representation of HIV positive characters in media that I’d really love if your character didn’t magically stop having it.
The idea of a hero turning grey to support their morals isn’t an uncommon one, and I don’t think it would be necessarily bad! Just on the safe side I’d recommend adding morally good characters who are also HIV positive and making it clear his diagnosis wasn’t what caused his shift in morals.
I don’t believe having him be in sex work as a minor is stereotypical, especially if he was initially forced into this line of work. Just be very careful and respectful of writing about it, I’d recommend reading (non biographical) works from survivors to get an idea of how to respectfully discuss it if you don’t know anyone to ask.
Have a lovely day!
