General rant: Peace And Love™️ mfs piss me off. Every time I hear one I either coddling a bigot, coddling an abuser, or coddling someone who’s not at that extent yet but is just a dickhead online and refuses to take responsibility I lose some of my stamina. Look, now I’m finally talking like Avalon. Pretty cool, huh? But anyways. Stop protecting jackasses online from the backlash they deserve just cuz you love and peace and hippie. It’s annoying. You don’t need to woobify and cradle bad people like that. Stop pretending like people can’t be pissed and that they’re not allowed to call that person something that is insulting but is actually true. If you are a system who's bodily POC/mixed race, we would love to be mutuals with y'all!! Most systems we have ever met are bodily white and while we love them very much it's kind of isolating coming from a model minority culture where mental health is even more stigmatized than typically :(

Help Me Get New Mobility Aids!!!

Happy Disability Pride Month! I initially wasnt going to make a post to try to get new mobility aids/tools, but I really need them, so what the hell.

I am a multiply disabled Black lesbian and I have been without proper supportive mobility since the start of the pandemic. I had many of my things broken or thrown away during this time period, and I thought I could go without but its been so long and I really cant anymore.

I need smart/ergonomic forearm crutches because regular forearm crutches wreck my fragile hypermobile wrists, I need braces for both legs and ankles, a shower bench and detachable showerhead. All of this combined is a bit over $550.

I REALLY need this, esp the crutches! My mobility and bodily autonomy would be GREATLY increased If I was able to get these items. I

This reminds me of how some people keep fearmongering about rising rates of diagnoses of autism, adhd, etc. in student populations *as if it's a bad thing that these things are being diagnosed.* Just because there's a higher recognized occurrence of something happening (like transgender people diagnosed with ocd, autism, etc.) in a given circumstance doesn't mean that that circumstance causes that thing, anymore than there's anything more going on in modern diagnosis rates of autism, adhd, etc. beyond better and more widely implemented diagnostic tools.

On a related note, I'm tired of people acting as if people with diagnosed psychiatric, mental, or diagnostic disorders are unable to make appropriate decisions regarding their own bodily autonomy, up to and including gender transitioning. This is something that happens across the medical spectrum when it comes to psychiatric and developmental disorders, as if being neurodivergent means that you're unable to understand or do anything that is right for yourself, and I am *sick* of it.

something that should be taken with a grain of salt are the statistics talking about the high rates of mental illness + neurodivergence among trans people (ocd, bpd, adhd, autism, etc)

I see both sides of the political spectrum taking these studies at face value - conservatives say we're broken, and trans people try to come up with reasons why for example autism + gender dysphoria makes sense and why one of them feeds into another

at the end of the day you have to remember that we're the one category of people on this planet who are legally required to go see a psychiatrist in order to receive non-psychiatric medication and surgeries.

more trans people are in therapy by law than any other demographic of people, and as a result, this captures more comorbidities.

if I had to look at my own family & rates of mental illness?

mom, dad, 2 maternal aunts, maternal grandmother, paternal grandmother, sister, sibling, and me all have OCD.

7/9 of them are cishet, never been to therapy, never diagnosed. 2/9 are trans, required therapy for hormone treatment, and were diagnosed.

you don't have to do any math to just see that the resulting statistics end up intensely skewed.

and we can think back to how autism was virtually never diagnosed more than 50 years ago - ruling out any grandparents being included in statistics - and even my parents' generation (they're in their 60s now) wouldn't have been included either.

I don't think it's to anyone's benefit to accept these studies uncritically. a lot of these things are hereditary and far more prevalent in the overall population than people realize

as a system of colour, I just want to set stuff straight about alter race.

alters can have different skin colours to the body, but that does not make them a different race than the body. skin colour is just part of someone's appearance while race has multiple factors to it such as culture.

being a poc is an experience that only someone who is bodily a poc will understand, hence why "alter race" is just impossible.

it's like how an adult alter in a minor bodied system will not have the same mentality as an actual adult since the brain only has the experience of a minor to base that alter off of.

also I know that I've been focusing on poc, but this applies to any race

Do you ever think about how Bashir saw every example of his exceptionalism as a reminder that his bodily autonomy was violated and his mind altered against his will, unable to truly excel if he wanted as this could be used against him but also constantly pressured by his parents and himself Be The Best™ or else what was it all for?

Do you ever think how this dynamic relates to him being an Arab man and how many POC have to work twice as hard to be recognised and still have their achievements devalued in the fragile face of white supremacy?

Do you think about how the ultimate fear of genetic augmentation is eugenics and the elimination of traits seen as undesirable under neurotypical str8 white supremacy? And the view of those who are unaltered as lower? And yet Bashir, a goofy, twinky, Autistic MOC who shows these traits very clearly, is seen as one of the only functional, successful augments? How instead of cold, inhuman amorality associated with augments (as Garak accuses him of) Bashir's morality is so so human - every line he skirts and boundary he crosses a desperate attempt to save lives and connect with other people? How he views himself as lower than everyone because of these augmentations and views any accolades as bittersweet, a reminder of the boy Jules who he feels he murdered to live?

Do you ever think about how Bashir constantly lives with the blinding, consuming fire of Kahn noonien-singh above him, unaware he is the gentle shadow at his feet?

Do you ever think about the emotional rollercoaster of Julian Bashir and want to give him a hug?
