𝓙ournaling tips 🧁☆
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
don't let social media be your only archive
first off, why should you start a journal?
not only is journaling a fun hobby that will keep you away from your phone for a while, it also helps you with getting to know yourself more, understanding your feelings and working on them. it is a way to keep your thoughts and memories written on paper forever for you to reread once you're older, and maybe you'll laugh at what seemed so important back then. personally, i have kept journals and diaries ever since i knew how to write, and trust me, it's worth it.
Tumblr media
there isn't a specific way in which you should or shouldn't journal: after all, it is your space, and you get to choose how to organize it. but if you're feeling lost and don't know how to start, i can give you some ideas.
first off, pick out a journal and decorate it. you can paint it, cover it with stickers or fun colored paper, mark it with lip stains, or whatever you want. just have fun with it, and make it cute, that way you'll be even more inspired to write in it.
and now.. what do you write?
✩ the basics.
❥︎ " about me" page. who are you? what are your favourite traits in yourself, and what do you want to change? what do you like doing? what are your favourite things? your fav movies, books, shows, songs, etc. what makes you you?
❥︎ bucket lists. places you want to visit, things you want to do this summer, things you want to accomplish in a specific time, a to do list for each month and year, things you want to do with your friends, books to read, movies/ tv shows to watch, experiences you want to have, etc.
❥︎ wishlists. whether it's products, clothes, or non material things.
❥︎ quotes. things that speak to you, that motivate you or that you think resonate with you, who you are and who you want to be. scraps of some of your favourite books, poetry, a movie, or maybe just something you found on pinterest.
❥︎ goals and dreams. write down everything you want to achieve, even your wildest dreams that you think are unrealistic. plan out your dream life, you dream house, the person you want to be, and start to think of it as something that is not so impossible after all.
❥︎ affirmations. little daily reminders to keep you positive and motivated.
❥︎ letters. a letter to your future self, to your younger self, to your future kids, or to people in your life (friends, family, or even people you despise) to whom you can't say these things directly. maybe one day you'll send them.
❥︎ your playlists. your favourite artists, favourite songs of the moment, favourite lyrics, or your receiptify.
❥︎ movie & book ratings. after you watch or read anything, try to write a very detailed and in depth review of why you liked or disliked that specific thing, give it stars, etc.
❥︎ people you care about. a little intro to all your favourite people: friends, family, or even your pet. why you like them, how you met, your favourite traits about them.
❥︎ dreams. as in the dreams you have when you're sleeping. writing them down helps remembering more dreams in the long run, and you can also try to analyze them to find out your fears and ambitions through your subconscious.
❥︎ compliments. things that people said to you that warmed your heart, positive things you think about some people that you haven't said to them yet and compliments you wish to receive more.
❥︎ things that make you happy. every day, or week, try to find some things that made your day a bit better, even if it's small or "meaningless" things, try to practice gratitude and appreciate more the little joys in life.
❥︎ the people you look up to. whether it's someone you know in real life or a celebrity, write down what you admire about them, what aspects of their life or personality you want to include more in yours, and why they inspire you. or if you're jealous of someone, try to understand what is it that they have and you don't, to know what you really want.
❥︎ questions to your future self. it can be a couple months from now, or 10 years. just imagine how fun it will be to answer them once it's time, and look back on what the past version of yourself wanted to achieve and how they imagined you.
❥︎ habits. things that you wanna let go of, and others that you want to implement more into your life.
Tumblr media
other than doing all the fun little pages, another thing that you should try doing is just writing down all your feelings. it doesn't necessary need to be a daily thing, i mean sure, you can do daily reports of things that happened, drama etc., but mostly just write when you need it, even if it's repetitive. especially when you're upset, writing down what made you sad and how you feel in that moment really helps you to feel better. whenever i'm anxious, or sad, i take out my little bedazzled journal and i start writing until my hand hurts about everything that's going wrong in that moment, and once i'm done i usually feel much more relieved. things that are left unsaid or unwritten only create a burden on yourself that becomes really hard to get rid of after a while, so it's important to let it all out when you need it. it helps you to organize all the messy thoughts in your head and remember how you felt in the past, so you can find patterns and connections that lead to the same feelings, to understand better their roots and meaning and start a healing journey.
Tumblr media
other than just writing down everything you're feeling whenever you need it, to do a deeper analysis on yourself, especially those parts that you keep hidden and refuse to acknowledge, you can try doing shadow work. by answering some questions, you can bring out the truths that maybe you've ignored all this time because it felt easier to do so than facing them, and once you do, you can begin to understand yourself to a deeper level
some prompts☆
❥︎ who are you when no one is watching?
❥︎ what parts of yourself are you afraid to show others, and afraid that they will discover them? why?
❥︎ what are your biggest fears?
❥︎ what is the biggest lie you have told yourself? and the biggest lie you've told someone else?
❥︎ what are you ashamed of in yourself?
❥︎ what are you avoiding?
❥︎ how do you deal with your emotions?
❥︎ what do you need to let go of?
❥︎ what makes you feel jealous?
❥︎ what are your best and worst qualities?
❥︎ what are your core values?
❥︎ what makes you feel good?
❥︎ what is your definition of success? and failure?
❥︎ how do you define love?
❥︎ what would you do and who would you be if you weren't afraid or anxious? if there wasn't anything holding you back?
❥︎ what traits do you judge in others? why? do you think some of those traits reflect something within yourself?
❥︎ what patterns and behaviours from your parents/caregivers do you replicate in your own life?
❥︎ how do you respond when you make a mistake or fail at something?
Tumblr media
a reminder: write for yourself, and not as if someone else was going to read. i promise that your journal won't think you're a loser if you talk about you emotions freely. i struggle with that too sometimes, but it's important that you remain honest with yourself, or the whole thing loses its purpose.
Tumblr media
i hope that this helped with starting out your healing journey through journaling, but remember that ultimately it is up to you to decide how to organize it and go through with it!! after all, it is your personal journey

Now that I’m turning Brink over in my mind again,,, did I ever reveal that the books are supposed to be seasonal? Like I genuinely don’t remember if I’ve ever talked about the fact that the intention is supposed to be seasonal motifs-
Brink is Spring into Summer. It starts off pleasant and mild, but brings damp and humidity, a wet heat which cultivated mould and rot, ending in dry, fiery heat and an emptiness to the air.
Edge is Summer into Autumn. It begins hot and dry, with deserts and jungles and the open seas. And then as the book continues on, it gets colder. It becomes a world of forests and falling leaves. It is at its core a story about transitions and transformations and people undergoing changes, ending in cool, damp, sickness and decay, bringing with it oncoming cold.
Border is Autumn to Winter. The story getting colder and harsher, the days looking more and more bleak. Death begins to set in, over and over. The life is drained from the world, and the characters are pushed further and further into a darkness which obscures the hope they had been clinging onto in the first installment, which has been dwindling ever since.
And the fourth one, if and when it’s ever completed, will be that final transition from Winter back into Spring. But that’s for another time down the road :)

i know a lot of people like to make fun of young queer people who use a bunch of microlabels and engage in niche or "cringe" aesthetics but im gonna be so honest, i love them so much. i 100% was that kid and while now i don't really use or think about any of the labels i used back then, that doesn't make that time any less valuable and valid (and it doesn't make someone less valid if they do keep using that terminology into their adult life!). queer kids who are figuring themselves out and are learning about new fun words for genders and pronouns and sexualities deserve to run wild and be loud and happy and not carry and be impacted by the shame that many of us have been taught to hold.
my cousin is a year younger than how old i was when i first realized i was queer and they've vaguely known they were queer for a couple years now. personally, i think that's pretty awesome. recently they've gotten into the very stereotypical scene kid aesthetic and i make a point to compliment them on it every time i see them. almost every time i see them they have a new adjustment as to how they view their gender/sexuality and i always tell them that that's really cool and i give them a hug. recently they told me they have a boyfriend and listed like 3 separate labels as to how he defines his gender and i asked them if i was remembering the definitions of all those words correctly (which i was because, like i said, i was that kid lol).
it's just all these small things that seem so trivial or "weird/cringe" that so many people look down on queer kids for engaging in and i'll never understand it. i think it is so unbelievably cool that these people are figuring themselves out and finding new terms and identities and things that they can be and they're just so excited by it. being excited by queerness is cool! wanting to engage in niche subcultures is cool! allowing yourself to be who you are in that moment without the worrying guilt of having to get it "right" is wonderful and awesome and cool and how it should be!! please do not teach the queer kids to be ashamed of themselves in a time where they should be able to run wild and figure out their identities in a way that truly makes them happy!!!!
#sorry for rambling but this is something im genuinely very passionate about#theres this idea of “oh theyll grow out of it”#okay and??#something something “show me a permanent state of self”#and even more infuriating is the idea of “they make the queer community look bad by having all these microlabels!!”#or “those labels/sexualities/genders arent real!"#fun fact buddy#gender and sexuality and even LANGUAGE#ISNT REAL#NONE OF ITS REAL#ITS ALL SOCIALLY CONSTRUCTED FICTIONAL CONCEPTS#IT MAKES NO SENSE TO WANT OTHER PEOPLE TO PLAY BY THESE FICTIONAL RULES YOU MADE UP FOR THESE FICTIONAL CONCEPTS#also cishet people aren't gonna respect you any more as a queer person just because you're one of the “normal” ones#and if they do. boy oh boy i have news for you.#they never respected you and your queerness in the first place#the purpose of queerness is not and never has been to be palatable#it is about being yourself and self expression and radical acceptance of the full range of human gender and sexuality#it is about finding joy in the very thing that people deem you an outcast for being#will these kids likely “grow out of it”? yes but that doesnt make their experiences any less real and true and valuable#imo queer kids exhibit one of the most true forms of queerness which is self-discovery#the way they radically embrace this thing about themselves they are largely taught to feel shame for is beautiful and commendable#we should honestly all be learning from them#and also supporting them!! this is a very crazy stage of life! let queer kids in your life know you love and support them!!#in every stage of their journey!!!#sorry ive been having a very rambly day today#but i just think about this every time i see my cousin#and i see myself in them and i know how awful i felt bc i had no one who cared/supported me in that#and i just want to make sure they have at least one person#who they know thinks theyre cool as fuck and is on their side 100%#also my cousin thinks im cool! which is crazy!! and i wouldve gone WILD if i knew that someone i thought was cool that *I* was cool!!!

Right so… prison break. The question I set out to answer for my scavenger hunt is: Would Techno’s prison break plan via the toilet have worked?
And the answer is interesting… for starters, despite Dream informing us that there is an elder guardian right under the cell [clip], this is not true. The elder guardian is actually right above the cell, with one further away under the middle of the entire lava chamber [more details on prison guardians].
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which actually makes their escape even easier (well they’ll still have to deal with the mining fatigue, but with how many guardians there is and their proximity that probably wasn’t going to end from killing the one guardian anyways). The most efficient way I found, is actually digging behind the cell (remember how Sam was doing that in Daedalus) and crawling. Not only is there red stone back there, and an opening, but also that direction is the shortest distance to the outside. Using this method Dream only has to break 14 blocks total (11 obsidian, 2 black stone {red}, 1 iron bars {pink}) [details on breaking time], making his (absolute minimum) total breaking time 286 hours or roughly 12 days. {the red stained glass panes note which blocks he would break}
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As an aside, Foolish actually got pretty close to breaking in [far right picture] and had he gone from the back wall instead he probably would have succeeded lol XD.
If however, rivals duo instead continued the path they were on, they would actually find that the cell is essentially floating, so the water would seep under and turn some of the lava into cobblestone. (Interestingly, there is existing cobblestone already down here, a detail Sam notices after Techno escapes and finds Dream in the water hole [clip]. If I had to guess, I’d say while setting up that stream in creative they actually broke more blocks to make it more believable, but noticed how it was hollow, so plugged it up but neglected to fix the cobblestone, and instead made up some canon reasons why they hadn’t made more progress [clip] [clip])
Anyways, if they did mine down there, they could break some cobblestone {lime} and do some crawling under the cell. Using the open space down there they’d want to make as much progress towards the back wall as possible before going down under the lava and then digging straight. If they did this method, they would have to break 24 blocks (22 obsidian, 2 cobblestone {lime}) and it’d take them a total of 566 hours or roughly 23 and a half days. (It should be noted though that in this path Dream would be swimming (holding space bar) while mining so he doesn’t drown - I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t cause him to starve, but still would be annoying and realistically rather exhausting.) {diamond blocks are to show which block above would be broken, with diamond ore representing cobblestone - wanted to make sure you can see where the water is}
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Course these are what I found to be the most efficient ways, they could of course chose a different direction or break different blocks, increasing their escape time. Additionally, these methods only work as long as Dream is left alone long enough and(or) knows when to crawl back out when they come to not draw suspicion. So to give Dream some credit, Techno is a necessity for this to work at all and he couldn’t have done it before(or after) without risking major problems…

Hi sitting here watching return of the king we need more people to get on the transfem faramir train... Faramir's failure to be borormir-> failure to be a son -> failure to be a man) The way Faramir still tries to live up to Denethord idea of what a son is....but despite trying so hard he never views faramir as anything but....Disposable. BTW isnt it really reallly interesting too how Denethor attempts to kill faramir in a method historically used to execute women (Burning Alive)

making a mental note if I ever make it up to Dundee to scope out possible places on Discovery to put a square set for the lancers. I have, in my life, been On Boats and they're not generally known for large areas of open decking. maybe the wardroom table folded away? this is going to be my niche and specific bugbear I think
I'm in general very interested in dancing in single-gender spaces, especially all-male spaces - even in modern social dance circles, there's this assumption that the ideal partnership is m/f, and of course women won't mind dancing together if the numbers don't work out but it's Too Much for men to do the same if that's how the numbers go (obviously this has changed over time, but even in ~2018 when I first started dancing with my current group, people would kindly offer to break up their f/f partnership so I (male(ish)-presenting) wouldn't 'have to' dance with a man), so there's an element of petty vindication in pointing at historical dancing and going 'well it didn't seem to bother them in 1903'. Especially when, as here, the fact of dancing in m/m pairs isn't even remarked upon, just 'we had a song or two, then a set of lancers and then more songs' (p.266).
