rebelcaptain + the hunger games au
When Jyn Erso was eight years old, her mother died and her father left to become a gamemaker for the Hunger Games. Adopted by Saw Gerrera, her mother's friend, she became Jyn Gerrera and was forbidden from ever revealing her true identity to anyone. Ten years later, it's Jyn's last reaping. Saw, the forgotten victor of the 32nd Hunger Games, had rejected every reward the Empire offered him, preferring to live as a recluse at the edge of the forest in District 12, as opposed to the luxury in the Victors' Village. It's been decades since anyone in the district even recalled that Saw was once a victor himself, but he had made sure to teach Jyn all he knew of self-defense and combat training. It's the only thing she has of him left since his passing two years ago. Now, Jyn just wants to get through her last reaping and survive. But when she hears the name of the young girl she trades with sometimes, Jyn doesn't hesitate to volunteer in her place. She has nothing to lose, except her life, and every reason to believe that with Saw's training, she has a chance at winning the games. A chance that 12-year-old Kerri Andor wouldn't have. Things get a little more complicated when Kerri's brother is picked as the other tribute. Jyn is good at surviving, but Cassian, with his quiet cunning and surprising talent with a bow and arrow, could be a threat. Not to mention that Jyn knows he's the sole provider for his young sister and aging mother; a family who needs him. Who may die without him. Nobody is waiting for Jyn back home. When their mentor's plan to make them seem like star-crossed lovers triples the attention and sponsors they receive, Jyn is forced to play along with the scheme and pretend she has feelings for Cassian. Worst of all? She's not sure where pretending ends and where genuine feelings begin. The gamemakers say they can both go home if they're the last two tributes standing, but Jyn knows better than to believe the pretty promises of the Empire. Soon, she'll have to make a choice. Will she do anything to survive? Or will she let Cassian Andor go home to his family - even at the cost of her own life?
#rebelcaptain#rogue one#dailyrebelcaptain#therebelcaptainnetwork#swedit#rogueoneedit#tuserjyn#usertina#rebelsmik#tusersimone#*graphics#*rebelcaptain#thg au#i have thoughts#i think jyn and cassian are both more katniss than peeta#although cassian certainly has some peeta traits especially their ability to lie and manipulate#but cassian is far less ~golden boy~ and far more directly lethal than peeta who doesn't kill anyone in the games#i also think the bow and arrow make more sense for him since he's a sniper and jyn is more hand-to-hand combat#and then jyn's the one who volunteers like katniss but cassian's the one with a family relying on him#katniss has the desire to survive for her family and jyn has survival instincts but she has no one to go back for#cassian does#which i think makes for an interesting dilemma for him#because he doesn't think he can stomach killing jyn but if he dies what will happen to kerri?#for that reason i think the trick with the berries may come from him#jyn who has spent the last two years achingly alone feels she has nothing to survive for#she has a fondness for kerri and has grown to care deeply about cassian so ultimately i think she'd want to give the victory to him#cassian is the one who has to be like 'no we do this together or not at all'#but then if we go further into catching fire and mockingjay territory i think ultimately jyn's the spark#although would it still make sense if cassian did the trick with the berries? i don't know#i always pictured jyn as the face of the rebellion and cassian getting hijacked etc etc but im curious what you guys think!!

You're President Snow and it's the 50th Hunger Games and you're like ok cool big one quarter quell big deal for sure for sure, twice as many tributes, probably someone from the 1st or 2nd districts will win but it'll be more exciting, and there's this one tribute from really the worst district out there who refuses to try to kill people and you're like ok well he'll be killed soon I hope, and then somehow everyone else keeps murdering each other but this one boy keeps surviving because he just refuses to interact with the other tributes and you're like hmm we should get on that but we probably have time and you get distracted by the other events and then the numbers keep dwindling and dwindling and this boy btw he holds his friend as she dies, so sad, so emotional, it's fine we can switch cameras and all but there are now only like two tributes left and one of them??? is that weird pacifist district twelve kid? hello? the whole point of this year of games was for additional violence and he's still here? and then he wins and he barely even does it on purpose he just uses the forcefield he doesn't even fight and you have to go and congratulate him on winning and your whole special year is ruined by this teenager. Anyway Haymitch winning must have been a real kick in the teeth.

Calcharo as a father headcanons
Calcharo as a Father HCs

Calcharo views parenthood as an extension of his responsibility as a leader. He’s fiercely protective, ensuring his child is safe from harm or betrayal, but he instills discipline and self-reliance, teaching them the harsh realities of the world.
Just as with his mercenary code, Calcharo would always fulfill his promises to his child. If he says he’ll be there for an important event, he’ll move mountains to make it happen—even if it means delegating critical Ghost Hounds operations.
He doesn’t sugarcoat lessons. Instead of merely explaining, he involves his child in hands-on experiences, whether it’s solving practical problems or understanding trust and betrayal in relationships.
While he prioritizes toughness, Calcharo emphasizes the importance of fairness and helping the vulnerable. He’d tell his child stories of how the Ghost Hounds helped struggling communities and teach them to wield strength with purpose.
Calcharo would train his child in combat and survival skills. Though his lessons are intense, they’re laced with subtle encouragement, instilling confidence.
Late at night, his child would sit by his side as he tells tales from the Lawless Zone and the Ghost Hounds’ exploits. His stoic face would occasionally soften as he shares hard-won wisdom and moments of victory.
Given his expertise with bioelectricity and magnetic forces, Calcharo might teach his child about machines and technology, turning repairs or upgrades into quality bonding time.
Inspired by his experiences in Huanglong, he makes an effort to celebrate milestones—no matter how small—by organizing small gatherings or preparing a favorite meal.
Calcharo’s stoic nature makes it difficult for him to express affection openly. While he deeply loves his child, his displays of care often come through actions rather than words.
Having been shaped by betrayal, Calcharo has a hard time trusting even those closest to him. He constantly worries his child might grow to resent or turn against him.
Leading the Ghost Hounds means Calcharo often struggles to dedicate as much time as he wants to his child, though he compensates by making the time they do have together meaningful.
When his child is upset, Calcharo offers quiet reassurance, placing a steady hand on their shoulder or sitting with them in silence until they’re ready to talk.
He rarely gives verbal compliments, but his proud smile or approving nod speaks volumes when his child achieves something significant.
Any threat to his child is met with unparalleled ferocity. The full power of his resonance would emerge if anyone dared harm them.
Despite his busy life, Calcharo would surprise his child with moments of unanticipated warmth, like taking them on a scenic walk or creating a safe space for them to share their thoughts.
Calcharo wants his child to grow into someone strong and self-reliant, able to navigate life’s challenges without being crushed by betrayal or hardship.
He is determined to give his child the stability and support he lacked growing up, striving to build a brighter future not tainted by the shadows of his past.
Calcharo would teach his child the importance of loyalty, keeping promises, and balancing strength with compassion, ensuring they carry on his legacy as a just and honorable person.

if you talk to the average conservative voter, they'll always talk about their conservative representative with unabashed enthusiasm. "this guy is supporting my rights!!!!!" even when the representative is very much not supporting their voting constituents' rights in some cases (ie. poor white ppl not realizing they're getting poorer because of their representative)
and I bet that's why conservative candidates are so good at winning. any person listening to their voters only gets a great impression of the candidate.
and if you talk to the average liberal/leftist voter, they all hem and haw. "oh yeah, I voted for them but they're Okay, they're Disappointing. they haven't done this. they haven't done that." and I bet if you fucking pressed them to state some Good Beneficial Legislation they've passed, either the voter 1. can't name any, or 2. has to attach caveats. ("yeah biden passed student loan forgiveness BUT not ALL loans were forgiven")
why aren't we ever excited about incremental progress. why aren't we cheering to the sky about every win. maybe more people would vote if there was genuine excitement, the same type of excitement that conservative voters seem to have about anything labeled "conservative".
I'm just so fucking tired of hearing ppl be like "I'm just disillusioned with my leftist representative" EVERY TIME but are DEAD SILENT on the small victories, the progress. conservatives know how to do this, and that's why they build momentum into the next election. why does this seem impossible for the other side.

Thinking about Elizabeth Woodville as a gothic heroine is making me go insane. She entered the story by overturning existing social structures, provoking both ire and fascination. She married into a dynasty doomed to eat itself alive. She was repeatedly associated with the supernatural, both in terms of love and death. Her life was shaped entirely by uncanny repetitions - two marriages, two widowhoods, two depositions, two flights to sanctuary, two ultimate reclamations - all paralleling and ricocheting off each other. Her plight after 1483 exposed the true rot at the heart of the monarchy - the trappings of royalty pulled away to reveal nothing, a never-ending cycle of betrayal and war, the price of power being the (literal) blood of children. She lived past the end of her family name, she lived past the end of her myth. She ended her life in a deeply anomalous position, half-in and half-out of royal society. She was both a haunting tragedy and the ultimate survivor who was finally free.
#elizabeth woodville#nobody was doing it like her#I wanted to add more things (eg: propaganda casting her as a transgressive figure and a threat to established orders; the way we'll never#truly Know her as she's been constantly rewritten across history) but ofc neither are unique to her or any other historical woman#my post#wars of the roses#don't reblog these tags but - the thing about Elizabeth is that she kept winning and losing at the same time#She rose higher and fell harder (in 1483-85) than anyone else in the late 15th century#From 1461 she was never ever at lasting peace - her widowhood and the crisis of 1469-71 and the actual terrible nightmare of 1483-85 and#Simnel's rebellion against her family and the fact that her birth family kept dying with her#and then she herself died right around the time yet another Pretender was stirring and threatening her children. That's...A Lot.#Imho Elizabeth was THE adaptor of the Wars of the Roses - she repeatedly found herself in highly anomalous and#unprecedented situations and just had to survive and adjust every single time#But that's just...never talked about when it comes to her#There are so many aspects of her life that are potentially fascinating yet completely unexplored in scholarship or media:#Her official appointment in royal councils; her position as the first Englishwoman post the Norman Conquest to be crowned queen#and what that actually MEANT for her; an actual examination of the propaganda against her; how she both foreshadowed and set a precedent#for Henry VIII's english queens; etc#There hasn't even been a proper reassessment of her role in 1483-85 TILL DATE despite it being one of the most wildly contested#periods in medieval England#lol I guess that's what drew me to Elizabeth in the first place - there's a fundamental lack of interest or acknowledgement in what was#actually happening with her and how it may have affected her. There's SO MUCH we can talk about but historians have repeatedly#stuck to the basics - and even then not well#I guess I have more things to write about on this blog then ((assuming I ever ever find the energy)#also to be clear while the Yorkists did 'eat themselves alive' they also Won - the crisis of 1483-85 was an internal conflict within#the dynasty that was not related to the events that ended in 1471 (which resulted in Edward IV's victory)#Henry Tudor was a figurehead for Edwardian Yorkists who specifically raised him as a claimant and were the ones who supported him#specifically as the husband of Elizabeth of York (swearing him as king only after he publicly swore to marry her)#Richard's defeat at Bosworth had *nothing* to do with 'York VS Lancaster' - it was the victory of one Yorkist faction against another#But yes the traditional line of succession was broken by Richard's betrayal and the male dynastic line was ultimately extinguished.
