#system or therian??

genuine question

im not sure if im a system or just someone with multiple theriotypes ora system with animal alters

each of them have defined names and personalities and i can feel them and talk to them and i can see their memories and sense their pain

currently it’s Cosmo (the “human” theriotype) at the wheel

but the others are still there

i don’t know if this counts as a system or if im just being dumb but im genuinely confused

rundown of the types below (TW: animal death, child death, r@pe, poisoning, self-h@rm, descriptions of gore)

Cosmo/Nyx: the human or the body. both names are used. generally chill, tries to make everyone happy (to their own detriment), prefers they/it, dislikes being alone, and enjoys art and reading. The one responsible for the body most of the time, and the one behind the cutting. Triggers: overdosing, cuts, suicide, blood

Comet: Maine Coon tuxedo cat, transfem, she/her. Tries to be optimistic, but gets scared when caught by surprise or when threatened. Died by choking to death in a neck snare trap while running from human hunters. She lived in an area where cats are considered invasive, and was being shot at, disorienting her and causing her to not see the snare. Triggers: gunshots, wire traps, sudden noises, hunters, mutilated cats

Incandescent: Rusty colored Deinonychus. Indie is used as a nickname. She/they is preferred. Very fierce and protective of the body and the others, and enjoys playing with small children or baby animals. Lost her hatchling when her mate murdered them as a “punishment”, causing her to descend into a vengeful rage that lasted the rest of her life, eventually leading to her murdering her mate. She died by falling off a cliff by her den, when the overhang collapsed and she snapped her spine in the collision. Triggers: childloss, childbirth, murder, loss of identity, falling, broken bones

Lumi: Brown-spotted Zale Moth, he/it. Very anxious, agile, and sees most things as a threat. He died by drinking water contaminated by a broken bugspray bottle, fatally poisoning him, adding to the pain of being dehydrated for days beforehand. Triggers: poison, dead bugs, contaminated water, being hunted, dehydration

Heron: Water Dragon, she/they. Wary of strangers, but quite loving and cheerful once you get to know her. She hatched with no family, due to her egg rolling down a steep hill while her parents weren’t looking, causing her to grow up alone. Murdered by her ex-boyfriend, who was angry and jealous that she broke up with him (he was possessive, manipulative, and would rape her), and slit from her throat to the bottom of her ribs before pushing her into the sea. Triggers: Rape, mutilation, drowning, abandonment, betrayal

Null/Void: No defined species, any pronouns. The amorphous, undefined form that takes hold when no one is around. Probably a shapeshifter. Finding @mxmorbidmidnight made them very, very happy and a lot more active, due to feeling like they found kin of theirs. Triggers: unknown

Nonhuman expressions of affection are great. Purring. Exposing weak points as a show of trust. Head bonks. Preening and chewing. Nuzzling. Biting. Intertwining tails. Feeding each other. Little chuffs, chatters, beeps and squeaks. Fluffing up of feathers, fur or other things. Dancing to impress. Cleaning their fur, scales, feathers or skin. Sharing body heat. Ears pointing toward those you care about to show your full attention is on them. Slow blinking.

Be Openly Scary

Society is scared of a lot of things it shouldn't be. A lot of those things can't be helped, a lot of those things don't hurt anyone, and a lot of those things are not what people even think they truly are.

So you know what?

Talk about your hallucinations, your delusions, your psychotic symptoms. Share things about your gender identity whether it be nonconforming, trans, xenogender or anything else. Scream about your nonhumanity and animal urges. Be open and unwavering about your systems existence, presenting as more-than-one wherever you want. Use and introduce your pronouns, even if people find them weird or offputting. Rock back and forth, pace, twitch and stim in any way you please. Wear things that reflect your identity in public. Get tattoos and body mods to your heart's content. Tell people about your personality disorders.

Don't make yourself small because others can't handle you. Be open where safe. Be you. Be scary.

Before you go and formulate strong opinions about other's identities, take some time to stop and actually have a conversation with those people. For example:

Don't understand physical therians? Talk to some before deciding you think they're delusional.

Don't understand endo systems? Talk to some before claiming they are fakers.

Don't understand those whose identities are rooted in delusion? Talk to some before believing they're dangerous.

Don't understand berserker shifts? Talk to those who have them before claiming it's mental illness.

Don't understand people who are objectum or have other paraphilias? Talk to some before deciding they are disgusting.

Hate stems from misinformation. If we take the time to understand why others feel the way they do, we can avoid creating the divides that cause so much tension in our communities. We shouldn't jump to conclusions about identities when we haven't heard it straight from the people with those identities themselves. There's no way to understand exactly how someone feels without being them, so the least we can do is listen and not judge.
