the weirder parts of being nonhuman

it seems that a lot of the content on here about therianthropy tends to be the more digestible parts - running through the woods! wind in your fur! howling at the moon!

but i think there's also a lot of like, weirder, more embarrassing parts that are a bit hard to find space to talk about.

at the risk of being screenshotted and made fun of somewhere else on the internet, i'll say that one of the earliest manifestations of my therianthropy is that i crave raw meat and blood.

as a kid, i would watch nature documentaries and become envious at the sight of a lion ripping into a zebra, or a wolf into a deer. it literally made me hungry. it was mouthwatering.

i would comment on it to the people around me, under the assumption that this was a normal feeling. i vividly remember being told that it was really strange and gross. i was probably like, 6 years old when it started.

when i was around 12 or 13 my mom would buy beef marrow bones for the neighbor's dog. at night, i’d sneak out to the kitchen, steal one from the freezer, and chew on it for a while.

wow! i’ve never told anyone that, and it feels so cringe to admit.

my nonhumanity feels so primal, so deep down in my bones. i have no desire to hurt any animal, and i don't think i could, but my entire life i have wanted to experience ripping into a warm, fresh carcass.

the sight of raw meat makes me ravenous. and i think a lot of people get it, kinda. seeing a nice steak at the grocery store is appetizing, y'know? but i’d even go as far as to say that the sight of a dead, bloody animal is too.

however, i think feelings like these are not uncommon.

it's also one of those things that i feel is so quintessential to my being, one of the first things i ever felt that made me realize i wasn't exactly human.

by the way, you can and should project your experience onto fictional characters and headcanon them as alterhuman/otherkin/therian/etc.

It is not cringe or "chronically online." Our incredibly complex and profound identities have been boiled down to cat masks and doing quadrobics online, therianthropy is seen as something akin to being a furry, when in reality it is something far deeper. It is ok to project that onto characters you like, it is ok to see characters' complex stories and identities and see them explained through therianthropy. If someone is unwilling to see the nuance in your identity and think you're doing the next Miku binder Thomas Jefferson or whatever then it is their fault for not listening to your experiences and perspectives, It's not your fault for existing in a way that has been misinterpreted. (Note. i am not saying that there is anything wrong with being a furry, or enjoying cat masks, or doing quadrobics. all im saying that boiling down alterhumanity to the commonly portrayed "tiktok therian aesthetic" gets old and is not an accurate representation of what being alterhuman feels like for alot of people)

✨ You can get a nice book, show or game to play/watch/read while you relax if you don't want to relax doing nothing!

🌿 If you have one of those lamps that project some galaxies or other nice lights, that can be an awesome addition!

Nonhuman expressions of affection are great. Purring. Exposing weak points as a show of trust. Head bonks. Preening and chewing. Nuzzling. Biting. Intertwining tails. Feeding each other. Little chuffs, chatters, beeps and squeaks. Fluffing up of feathers, fur or other things. Dancing to impress. Cleaning their fur, scales, feathers or skin. Sharing body heat. Ears pointing toward those you care about to show your full attention is on them. Slow blinking.

Decided to update my "a basic look into the nonhuman identity" post.

All of it is basically the same as the old one, but with a few minor tweaks here and there. =D

Nonhuman as an identity: To identify as not human either fully or partially. (hate/trolls will be reported and deleted)

Reminder: These are all personal identities and why someone identifies as nonhuman and what term someone decides to use for themself is exclusively their business. In the end it is what makes the most sense to the individual and not up to others. Now, onto some of the communities that are included under the nonhuman identity:

Nonhuman: To identify as not human either fully or partially. Used both as an umbrella term, and a standalone identity. How specific you get with your identity and what terms you use is entirely up to you. Sometimes "nonhuman" is enough.

Otherkin: from the term "otherkind" - an identity which typically encompasses being wholly or partially a nonhuman entity. Usually understood to cover those who identify as mythical creatures and other fantastical things, but these are not the only things otherkin covers. Also encompasses non-creature/being nonhuman identities.

Examples of non-creature/being based identities: Conceptkin: an identity where one identifies as a concept such as the concept of night or fire. Objectkin: and identity where one identifies as an object. Songkin: an identity where one identifies as a song. Phytanthrope or Plantkin: an identity where one identifies as a plant.

Examples of creature/being based identities: Therianthropy: usually shortened to therian - where one identifies AS a nonhuman animal. Some will say that this term refers to only earthen animals, living or extinct, but it has never only encompassed earthly animals. The community's language came from those who identify as werecreatures.

Theriomythic: an alternate identity term for one who identifies in some intrinsic was as a mythical creature, typically refers to those with animalistic characteristics. Paleotherian: an identity term for one who identifies as a now extinct earthly animal, like a dinosaur or mammoth.

Cladotherian or Cladokin: an identity term for one who does not identify as a distinct species, but a broader identity encompassing an entire genus or larger grouping. Cladomythic: an identity term for one who identifies as a group (clade) of animalistic mythical creatures.

Fictionkin: an identity term that covers all things fictional. For those who identify as something fictional like characters, animals, species, objects, etc. These can be from books, shows, video games, etc, but not always! Original fictional characters and such are also possible. No all those who are fictionkin identify as nonhuman.

There are many other identities that fall under the nonhuman umbrella which is why it's important to do your own research to figure out if a certain term works for you. While these identities are experience mostly involuntarily, the line between voluntary and involuntary can sometimes be incredibly blurry and hard to explain and figure out.

While the already mentioned identities are mostly involuntary, here are some identities that fall under being voluntary. Copinglink or Otherlink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman. Able to be changed as need dictates. This could be for a number of reasons, some examples being simply wanting to identify as nonhuman or as a consciously created coping mechanism. Copinglink was coined by Who-is-page, who made an official definition post in 2016, the definition detailing that the term is for all that want to take on a voluntary nonhuman identity, and not just for coping reasons.

A lot of people may also say that it is impossible to become a therian, otherkin, etc. While the identity is mostly involuntary, things like trauma and neurodivergence can cause an individual to take on a nonhuman identity when they had not had one previously.

Most will usually see people explain that these identities are spiritual or psychological, but these are only some of the ways that individuals may experience them. Some other experiences of nonhumanity: Symbolic, Metaphorical, Ancestral, Physical (Yes this is an actual reason for some and they are just as much a part of the community as anyone else. Physical and Ancestral nonhumans are part of the community's history and some of its founders.)

While this is a brief look into the nonhuman identity that I could share, I do hope it has been helpful in some way. Remember to be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you how to feel. Ignore, report, delete and block the haters! Yeen out~

I've seen anti-kins claiming that all therians are just felines and canines more than once and it is just so funny to me because they fail to see how diverse we actually are as a community because they never actually... yk... look. They just judge based on what they see on the surface.

We were pioneered by elves like myself. I've met dragons, armadillos, pangolins, horses, possums, stoats, kangaroos, monkeys, crows, angels, zombies, ant-eaters, dinosaurs, hedgehogs, owls, hamsters, hell, I've met bugs. There is so much diversity within the therian community that close-minded people refuse to see.

So basically... Shoutout if you have a common kintype! Shoutout if you have an uncommon kintype! And a special shoutout to celestials, infernals, elves, dragons and paleos because y'all are metal. Love you all!

My daily schedule according to anti-kin mfs

3am: get up to aggressively bark and howl at the moon for 2 hours, waking all of my neighbors up in the process

6am: make myself a well rounded breakfast consisting exclusively of raw deer meat

6:30am: scream and cry for half an hour because my mom is forcing me to go to school and wolves CLEARLY do not go to school. my life is hell

7am: throw all of my deodorant in the trash because it blocks my natural 💫 𝓅𝒽ℯ𝓇ℯ𝓂ℴ𝓃ℯ𝓈💫

8am: arrive at school wearing my fav buttplug tail and galaxy wolf shirt

8:30am: have a vague memory of having graduated high school already, but that cant be true because no therian is older than 16 so here i am

9am: yell at my classmates for calling me a human and tell them that they're being therianphobic, and that im going to cancel them on twitter and make sure they never get jobs

9:30am: enter psychosis

10am: angrily email the school board for the 8th time this week because they won't put litter boxes in the bathrooms for me which is therianphobic oppression

10:30am: sit alone in a corner and growl/hiss at any humans who get too close to me

11am: enter psychosis

12pm: single handedly regress the trans rights movement by 10 years

1:30pm: refuse to sit in a chair for class and instead perch up on a desk. teacher threatens to kick me out, tragically i am forced to comply

2:30pm: cast a spell on one of my religious classmates as i leave school using my evil devil anti-human anti-christian magic
