For any sub-labels that reasonably fall under the "umbrella" of one of these categories, select the applicable "umbrella" category.
Anon mostly sees therians and some otherkin on tiktok and youtube, and wonders if there will be a similar skew on tumblr or if there are more of other types here.

Decided to update my "a basic look into the nonhuman identity" post.
All of it is basically the same as the old one, but with a few minor tweaks here and there. =D
All pictures have ALT text included, plain text under the cut.
Nonhuman as an identity: To identify as not human either fully or partially. (hate/trolls will be reported and deleted)
Reminder: These are all personal identities and why someone identifies as nonhuman and what term someone decides to use for themself is exclusively their business. In the end it is what makes the most sense to the individual and not up to others. Now, onto some of the communities that are included under the nonhuman identity:
Nonhuman: To identify as not human either fully or partially. Used both as an umbrella term, and a standalone identity. How specific you get with your identity and what terms you use is entirely up to you. Sometimes "nonhuman" is enough.
Otherkin: from the term "otherkind" - an identity which typically encompasses being wholly or partially a nonhuman entity. Usually understood to cover those who identify as mythical creatures and other fantastical things, but these are not the only things otherkin covers. Also encompasses non-creature/being nonhuman identities.
Examples of non-creature/being based identities: Conceptkin: an identity where one identifies as a concept such as the concept of night or fire. Objectkin: and identity where one identifies as an object. Songkin: an identity where one identifies as a song. Phytanthrope or Plantkin: an identity where one identifies as a plant.
Examples of creature/being based identities: Therianthropy: usually shortened to therian - where one identifies AS a nonhuman animal. Some will say that this term refers to only earthen animals, living or extinct, but it has never only encompassed earthly animals. The community's language came from those who identify as werecreatures.
Theriomythic: an alternate identity term for one who identifies in some intrinsic was as a mythical creature, typically refers to those with animalistic characteristics. Paleotherian: an identity term for one who identifies as a now extinct earthly animal, like a dinosaur or mammoth.
Cladotherian or Cladokin: an identity term for one who does not identify as a distinct species, but a broader identity encompassing an entire genus or larger grouping. Cladomythic: an identity term for one who identifies as a group (clade) of animalistic mythical creatures.
Fictionkin: an identity term that covers all things fictional. For those who identify as something fictional like characters, animals, species, objects, etc. These can be from books, shows, video games, etc, but not always! Original fictional characters and such are also possible. No all those who are fictionkin identify as nonhuman.
There are many other identities that fall under the nonhuman umbrella which is why it's important to do your own research to figure out if a certain term works for you. While these identities are experience mostly involuntarily, the line between voluntary and involuntary can sometimes be incredibly blurry and hard to explain and figure out.
While the already mentioned identities are mostly involuntary, here are some identities that fall under being voluntary. Copinglink or Otherlink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman. Able to be changed as need dictates. This could be for a number of reasons, some examples being simply wanting to identify as nonhuman or as a consciously created coping mechanism. Copinglink was coined by Who-is-page, who made an official definition post in 2016, the definition detailing that the term is for all that want to take on a voluntary nonhuman identity, and not just for coping reasons.
A lot of people may also say that it is impossible to become a therian, otherkin, etc. While the identity is mostly involuntary, things like trauma and neurodivergence can cause an individual to take on a nonhuman identity when they had not had one previously.
Most will usually see people explain that these identities are spiritual or psychological, but these are only some of the ways that individuals may experience them. Some other experiences of nonhumanity: Symbolic, Metaphorical, Ancestral, Physical (Yes this is an actual reason for some and they are just as much a part of the community as anyone else. Physical and Ancestral nonhumans are part of the community's history and some of its founders.)
For those looking for more information, and community places, here are some places to check out! Werelist, Nonhuman National Park, Alterhuman Archive, The Chimera's Library. The above are forums and archives of information on the community. Most archived information is thanks to who-is-page, liongoatsnake and frameacloud on tumblr.
While this is a brief look into the nonhuman identity that I could share, I do hope it has been helpful in some way. Remember to be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you how to feel. Ignore, report, delete and block the haters! Yeen out~

One of the best otherkind representations I've found is the changeling in the Danish kids book 'Troldehistorien'
Tumblr media
Not the boy on the cover. That's the exchanged - the human who was kidnapped to live among the trolls. The changeling is the one who was placed among humans instead of the exchanged.
The changeling was once a chestnut sapling, transformed into a human by the trolls. Throughout the book we see how the changeling (whose name is never revealed, because trees don't have names) never thrives among humans. He hates talking. He doesn't understand how to play with the other kids. His only moments of peace are among the trees, which beckon him into the woods time and time again
Tumblr media
In a moment of desperate loneliness and, what can only really be described as species dysphoria, the changeling digs a hole and tries to plant himself. Having no water at hand, he considers watering his 'roots' with tears. But trees can't cry.
Tumblr media
At the end he is turned back into a tree, and the exchanged and the trolls often go into the woods to visit him

I used to get frustrated over the fact I have so many kintypes and theriotypes and how I felt so complex but now I honestly don't give a shit. I'm just being myself and I love every part of it.
So what if i'm multiple fictional characters, animals, & spooky creatures + a plant all combined?? Nothing wrong with that!

โ€ข What's "alterhuman"?
โ—ฏโƒคAlterhuman is an umbrella term including any identity that derives from the standard human experience. Yes! this includes human identities!
โ—ฏโƒคNot all alterhuman people identify as non human, some alterhuman people are human.
โ—ฏโƒคThe alterhuman symbol is the alt key : โŽ‡
โ—ฏโƒคThe original coining can be found here

โ€ข Identities & other terms
A few identities under the alterhuman umbrella are, but are not limited to :
Constellic || Daemians & Daemons || Dragons || Endels || Furries || Fictionfolk || Nonhumans || Otherkin || Otherhearted || Otherlink || Otherflick || Phytanthrope || Synpath || Therians
Links to each term will be added progressively
Note that :
The term alterhuman is opt-in, many people can identify with one or more of these identities but chose to not associate themselves with the term alterhuman or any other umbrella term their chosen label can be found under]
These identities, even if some are etymologically similar to others, refer to groups and communities sourced/anchored/found in this(these) reality(universes).

& Plurality is also often considered to be under the Alterhuman umbrella, although not all systems might identify as alterhuman solely because of their plurality, or identify as alterhuman at all. But due to the complexity of plurality, terms, analyses, and other resources concerning that community and identities, any further information will be sorted, stored and can be found in our partner blog : @plurality-resources &

Wanted to join a therian/otherkin etc server on discord but they all seem to be run by or mostly populated by minors? Some are even minors only -- So I created an Alterhumanity server for adults only! it's very new, but if you'd like to join and meet some new friends and talk about your experiences, give it a try!
join here!

do any phytanthropes/plantkin follow me? or just if any plantkin see this, I have a few questions!
so, I suspect I might be a phytanthrope/plantkin, specifically the common snowdrop, but I'm not sure, so I hope to learn more about your guys' experiences ๐Ÿ™
question 1:
do you get any type of shifts? mental or phantom? if yes, what do they feel like?
question 2:
does your kintype influence your preference for weather or environment? if you're something that usually grows in a wet or damp environment, do you prefer the rain? if you're something that grows in the summer, do you prefer warm weather?
question 3:
how did you actually figure it out? what was something that made you kinfirm your 'type? or did you just instinctually know what you are?
thank you if you decide to answer! I haven't seen that many plantkin, so I hope this reaches some of you.

We don't see much about identities relating to objects, concepts or plants in the alterhuman community and we'd absolutely love to see more. This is a call for all objects, plants, concepts and those with identities related to them that are so underrepresented in our community to speak about their experiences.
"Who will read my essay?" we will, and people after us will as well. Your experiences are valued by the community and you have just as much of a right to speak up as anyone of any other alterhuman identity.
I'd absolutely love to have people reblog this or comment and add their experiences, and better yet also make their own posts to be more widely shared with the community.

Making another post for this because I think the last one kinda died out
I made a Google slideshow with a bunch of different alterhuman identities + terms and stuff to help questioning alterhumans! If you know an identity that isn't on there or if you want to add a term (or anything else really) then PLEASE let me know and it will be added!!!
