I was just thinking about the many arguments against Therianthropy and wanted to put my rebuttals into words and share them to see if I'm missing or incorrect about something.

"Therianthropy isn't real, you're just faking it" You can't fake something unknowingly. Not believing someone when they tell you about their identity is a you problem. You can doubt all you want to.

"Therianthropy is just mental illness/disorder" "A mental disorder is characterized by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual’s cognition, emotional regulation, or behaviour. It is usually associated with distress or impairment in important areas of functioning" (World Health Organization- mental disorders. 8 june 2022.) Therianthropy doesn't inherently equal impairing a person from living a perfectly fine and stable life. There are many Therianthropes who do have proper social and emotional lives. But Mental illnesses can affect the way a person sees the world and themselves and influence a person's identity. And that should be respected.

"Therianthropy can't be proven by science" Something like Therianthropy would probably fall under social science and/or psychology. And IIRC If someone is claiming something exists and is real, then it's real. The only thing that needs to be done is categorize what it is and how it develops. (Which makes sense to me. You probably shouldn't just ignore people who are claiming something just because it's unheard of)

I’m following so many therians and i don’t even like that community of people anymore. I wish Tumblr would give an option to unfollow people that used certain tags

I was in a bad spot in my life until i left the therian community alone, my only way of coping was believing I’m psychologically connected to a dog, lmao. It wasn’t till people started saying “physical therians are real!” And “it’s like being trans!” That made me wake up. This wasn’t spiritual anymore, this was delusion.

I am still a furry, that’s just a hobby and me being a nerd i guess, has nothing to do with believing you’re something else. Therianthropy is harmful and transphobic 90% of the time. Makes the news think trans people and furries also believe they’re cats or whatever.

a lot of therian and otherkin positivity i see from non-therian/otherkin just feels so…infantilizing. like instead of just a perfectly fine “guys, respect who they are, respect their choices, it’s not harming your they’re perfectly valid” a lot of it is like “guys, respect their choices, some of them are just playing around! kids love to play dress up and pretend to be their favorite animals! it’s normal and they might even grow out of it! everyone needs some community” and it’s just like. weird. we aren’t kids (at least a lot of us aren’t), our identities aren’t just something we “grow out of.” stop talking about us like it’s just a phase and the only reason you should respect us is that “everybody does weird stuff to cope.” please just treat us normally.

tips for cat therians !

ok, yeah, disclaimer; these tips will not include quads, gear, and are closeted therian+city therian friendly! however, these are mostly directed for domestic cats, so sorry to my wild cat friends :(. if you're against alterhumans/furries/quadrobists, please insult me through the reblog feature, thx!

try growing catnip at home! in small doses (such as tea), it's perfectly fine! if you practice witchcraft, catnip represents friendship can be used in spells.

give small little gifts to your friends, bonus points if it's food.

cats are carnivores, so lean towards meats. pretty much all cats eat small animals, like rabbits! 3a. for outdoors domestic cats, try leaning more towards poultry such as chicken, geese, turkey, etc. and fish! 3b. for indoors domestic cats, poultry, beef, pork, and other flavours common in cat food is good! 3c. wild cats are known to eat livestock, which means pretty much a lot of the above, and on occasion, deer! try out some venison! and if your theriotype lives near areas with bodies of water, eat some fish native to that area!

head outside for daily exercise! cats need exercise too!

keep good hygiene! cats love being clean! trim your claws, brush your hair, wash your skin, brush your teeth!

if you can, try out sports! bonus if it helps with things that would make you thrive in the wild! (for example, running for stamina, and speed)

cats are known for being acrobatic! go and do an obstacle course, challenge yourself!

dont sit staring at a screen all day! go do some bird watching or people-watching

cats are hunters. if you have school, see if you can sneak up behind your friend and scare them while walking to class.

go outside during darker hours, and take a listen to what you can hear. crickets? cars? people?

this isn’t a disrespectful question at all! many folks are confused about the definitions and differences between furries and therians. asking questions and knowing these differences greatly reduces the hatred and violence against both of these communities.

a therian is someone who literally identifies as an animal(s). it usually stems from things like neurodivergency and/or trauma. the type(s) of animal a therian identifies as is called a “theriotype”. therians are under the alterhuman umbrella, meaning that there are more folks that don’t identify as strictly human and identify themselves as things like vampires, angels, plants, etc. the vast majority of alterhumanity is involuntary, but there are types like otherlinks who voluntarily identify as nonhuman things. copinglinks kin in order to cope mentally, and funlinks kin for fun. alterhumans are NOT inherently related zoophiles.

a furry is someone who enjoys and interacts with content about fictional anthropomorphic characters and often has a “fursona”, which is an anthropomorphic animal or object character. being a furry is 100% voluntary. anyone can be a furry! some furries make their characters as a sort of extension of themself and use it to express themself, but they do not identify AS their character. some furries own a “fursuit”. a fursuit is a costume worn by furries that has the design of their fursona, but they are rare since they are expensive and difficult to make. this is just for fun and isn’t to connect with a theriotype, since someone who is a furry and not a therian does not have a theriotype. furries are NOT inherently related to zoophiles.

while there are many folks who are both furries and therians, they are two different groups.

then there are more groups that are also confused with furries and therians. two of the most prominent ones are quadrobists and otherhearteds.

a quadrobist is someone who practices the sport of moving around on all fours the way a quadruped would. this is can be done for exercise and fun, to connect with a theriotype, or all of these. you dont have to be a furry or therian to practice quadrobics, and furries and therians do not have an exclusive right to practice quadrobics. everyone is allowed to practice quadrobics.

otherhearteds are folks who who are different from therians because they identify more WITH an animal as opposed to AS an animal. the animal(s) an otherhearted identifies with is called a “hearttype” or “kithtype”. (i myself am still not sure about all of the facts of otherhearteds, so if i got anything wrong it was probably about them)

you can be both otherhearted and a therian. it is not an either/or situation.

nobody gets to dictate your identity if your identity is not inherently harmful.
