Rating the Kommissar Rex/Il Commissario Rex/Hudson and Rex human partners for funsies, in chronological order. Contains spoilers, some bias, and opinions based on superficial characteristics. I will take the blame for any distorted memories I have of the shows, although I did a full rewatch last summer. (Rewatch refers to Kommissar Rex and Hudson and Rex. I could only watch Il Commissario Rex once. Well, 0.75 times. I couldn’t find some of the episodes.)

Kommissar Rex

Richard Moser: The blueprint. Not necessarily the best one in my opinion (although if you ask kid me, yes), but they modeled at least two other characters after him in the reboots. Pretty nice (although a product of his time), street smart, recently divorced, and the first few episodes where he and Rex are getting used to living together are hilarious. Moser’s dry humor was good too, also his whump scenes where great. And I appreciated the nude scenes a lot (thanks, German tv of the 90s). 8/10

Alex Brandtner: The hot one. Also, more of a “new age” cop (new age here means post 90s, don’t get confused). Kid me didn’t appreciate the hotness but I watched it in my teen years, and oh boy. And the action scenes, while sometimes ridiculous and making you wonder why???, really showed the actor’s training in physical scenes too. I always liked the way Brandtner immediately bonded with Rex and then we learn of the tragedy with his own dog. Too bad his love life was even more non-existent than Moser’s. 9/10

Marc Hoffmann: I’ll be honest, I just didn’t care for him for the most part, but I did like the fact that for the first time there was a ship with him and Nikki. They went for a different style with this one and it shows. Marc is less type A than the previous two, not a bad thing, but by that point, it was clear that Kommissar Rex as a show was nearing its end and I think it sometimes showed. 7/10

Il Commissario Rex (At this point, let me just say that I don’t associate the two shows with each other. And whoever has watched both, would probably agree with me. It hardly matters that the Italian show starts as a spinoff.)

Lorenzo Fabbri: Ugh, I don’t know what it is with this guy but I didn’t like him much. His style was a lot like Moser at first (adopting Rex, saving him from a miserable fate, learning to live with him, etc.). I absolutely hated the storyline with the forensics scientist throwing herself at him every chance she got and him trying to avoid her instead of flat out telling her he’s not interested, and then at some point they slept together??? Anyway, did not like. 6/10

Davide Rivera: I liked that guy but sadly we didn’t have that many episodes with him. He could have had more to offer as a character. More quiet than the sometimes too loud Lorenzo, and took some time to warm up to Rex if I recall. I liked that he took no flack from his boss (Sidenote: the boss didn’t like Rex at first and kept wanting to get rid of him, and I wanted to rip him to shreds). 7/10

Marco Terzani: I literally found one season of his episodes, so I’ll reserve judgment (if anyone has his second and third season, please give it to me lol or point to the right direction). He seems kinda reckless? He’s definitely attractive. ?/10, more research needed.

Hudson and Rex

Charlie Hudson: Started off as kind of mediocre for me, then he made me change my mind. When I started watching, I was hellbent on comparing every single thing of this show to the characters of the original at first, so I’m partially to blame for my initial perception of him. However, I won’t blame myself for the bad writing, pacing, and overall mediocrity of S1 that contributed to a big part of it. Anyway, they used some of Moser’s backstory (divorced, adopts Rex after his K-9 partner tragically dies) and expanded on it. Charlie has had the most development as a character than any of the others, which makes sense since he’s the first of Rex’s partners to live that long or not get rebooted lol. He definitely gets bonus points for having a love life too. And for not dying, despite all the whump situations he gets himself into. Definitely falls under the reckless category too. 70% himbo, 100% whump magnet. 9/10

Also, I was trying to see how Guy would slot into this (like he definitely doesn’t have to, but kakashi having at least one friend is always nice) and my mind immediately went “he’s obviously part of the military’s tortoise unit” which is just so freaking wild. He’d probably be a motivational speaker that Kakashi met somewhere. Maybe after he got discharged there were mandatory group therapy things? Idk how the the Japanese military works, I just help write AUs on tumblr.

Naruto is definitely adopted. I’m feeling that Kakashi was named godfather by Minato his friend and commander when he found out that his wife was pregnant only to die in the same attack that Kakashi lost his eye in. Only for him to wake up after the attack to the news that Kushina had died in childbirth and the other godparent (*cough Jiraiya cough*) is nowhere to be found so Naruto was sent to foster care until Kakashi could get on his feet.

Man speed ran his hospital stay and the whole figuring out how to exist while blind in one eye thing.

He didn’t have much of an idea of what to do with a kid, but he was determined to fire it out so Naruto wouldn’t have to be alone.

I mean depending on how it goes I could see Guy being a childhood friend that happened to be in Kakashi’s unit and was discharged at the same time because of either losing his legs or becoming paralyzed from the waist down. Or since kakashi was injured in an attack that killed the rest of his unit he had to go to group therapy where he met Guy who was injured in a similar kind of attack and had already healed and adopted a kid and Kakashi had a moment like “parents have parent friends” and mentions his own kid and is forever solidified as Guys best friend.

i've been a manager at my job for almost a year now and i've dealt with dozens of pissed off customers and been confronted countless times and i feel like i handle most interactions as well as i can given the circumstances but one thing that still sticks with me is these people a few months ago. it was two parents with their like 4 year old kid and their server gave them two regular menus and a kids menu to order from. if your kid orders an entree from the kids menu they can get a scoop of ice cream for 99¢ but they Must get the entree to get the 99 cent scoop, otherwise the scoop is reg price. now personally ill often just charge the 99 cents even if they didn't get the kids entree, especially if we've already sold a lot of food to them, bcuz im not a cop, but the 16 year old server charged a reg price scoop for the little kid because the ice cream was literally all she got and that's what he was trained to do and it's The Rules so like he did everything he was supposed to. MIND YOU the kids menu CLEARLY says at the very top that the single scoop dessert is 99 cents ONLY WITH purchase of entree. okay. its not a secret its right there its there for you to read. okay. well the server comes to me and says hey my table is really upset about their bill and they want to talk to you. i go over and these people are IRATE they're like WHY IS HER SCOOP OF ICE CREAM 3.99 and their table is pre-bussed so there are no context clues about what food was eaten so im like, did she get a meal? and they say no she did not get a meal she just got the KIDS SCOOP OF ICE CREAM. and im like ok. back up. there is no "kids scoop of ice cream" there is a scoop of ice cream that children can get for 99 cents if they also order a kids entree. woman says WELL OUR SERVER DIDNT TELL US THAT. i'm like Well Im Sorry but servers aren't trained to tell you how much shit costs because we expect our customers to be able to readdddd the menu. i didn't say that obviously but i pointed at the kids menu on their table that THEY ordered from and was like Well Ma'am the menu explains the pricing of ice cream right here at the top. she goes WELL we didn't read that. can you take the ice cream off our bill?? and i kinda just look at her and im like. did your kid eat the ice cream? and she says Yeah. and i'm like then obviously no i cannot tske it off your bill. she freaks the fuck out and her husband is like pointing his finger in my face and shit and then when that's all said and done they pay and write some dumbass comment on their signed receipt about how much the shift manager sucks. Guys.

my FAV situation to put characters in is always the worst case scenario <3 looking at a character's morals & ideals and just. Making them do the opposite of that. It's my bread and butter tbh.

For nico especially, before she turned, I had a whole elaborate au that lives exclusively in my mind (& notes app) of her choosing to trade her life for her friend's freedom (they've been captured by a vampire or something dw about it) with the expectation that she would be killed. Instead, of course, the vampires keep her, making a mockery of her pride and using her skills as a hunter to their own ends :p It's uh. Pretty dark. But also a fun thought experiment. Everyone needs a little whump in their life <3

For mulligan my favorite scenario is imagining different ways his court martial could go >:3c but that's one we might actually see in play, though possibly with a happier ending than I'm imagining bc our gm is not nearly as mean to my characters as I am. In my mind he gets sentenced to hard labor, assigned to a dogcatcher (alien hunting) squad, and has a Very Bad time lmao.

For the sake of levity, though, I will touch briefly on the oft-mentioned cowboy polycule AU, where everything works out much better for everyone. That one has the crew living together on a ranch, with Jack & Mulligan as cowboys, Miranda as a horse therapist, Karina as a vet, and Reese and Reed doing... whatever it is they do in that au lmao. It's not particularly fleshed out, but the important part is that mulligan is dating both jack and miranda (and they amiably tolerate each other) and it's very wholesome (in comparison to canon at least)
