If a history-based work is good and inaccurate it’s because it’s a piece of art that sacrificed some points of accuracy for the sake of storytelling and conveying themes deeper and more important than a straightforward recounting of facts. If it’s bad and inaccurate then that’s just another reason why it sucks

I adore toxic relationship stories. Stories where the love is there, and it's absolute poison to everyone involved.
Stories about people who love one another completely and desperately, yet are so deeply flawed as people that they each drag one another down, and make one another into their worst selves.
Stories where the characters are full of romance, and love and joy, and that love somehow turns everything around them into an emotional blasted wasteland.

lololol i just read someone saying You Need To Write For Yourself and that they set 'obtainable' goals of 5 comments per chapter and welp i hate to tell you this, Enlightened One, but for many many people on AO3 that would be an insanely ambitious goal. i've seen 10 chapter fics with less than 5 comments on the whole thing, ffs!
#it really is true that the people who say 'write for yourself' are the ones who aren't doing that but don't realise it.#3 comments is my “this did really well” marker for oneshots or for a single chapter of something with several.#i feel like i do fine these days but that's partly because i turn of stats most off the time so i can't see anyone else's numbers to compar#maybe they WOULD write but for themselves but they are NOT experiencing low engagement so are they sure? like really sure?#fanfic life

I cannot relate to people who dislike female characters for “being manipulative.” She’s literally creative problem solving before your eyes. She’s literally just using her words. Maybe the other blorbos should be less pawn-like for her beautiful hands hmm

THE KING AND THE PRESIDENT OF NEW ASGARD
What if: Thanos never killed Loki, he survived, he went on to become the King of New Asgard’s advisor (with the title of ‘The President’). That’s it, Loki lived happily ever after. The end.

#i would just caution against watching media where said character is the main focus especially when the writer has a bias for him or her#that's the best way to avoid this trope#wolf hall is notorious for being sympathetic towards him and has been for YEARS
That's probably part of my issue, tbh, as having read the first two books and read a bit online I'm really aware of the bias and it's probably making me spot it more than I would otherwise, or when it's barely even there. Wolf Hall is indeed famously into Thomas Cromwell to a degree most people just aren't (he's an odd choice to fixate on, and I do find that kind of interesting in itself but that's external to the story). I think I'd expected an adaptation to be less so, because it's not directly in his head and I suppose it is but it's still enough to throw me off sometimes.
The women seem a bit better this year though it's still weird about them with the supposed attractions. One problem I had with the first season was how it presented almost all the women as constantly, needlessly bitchy. All of Anne Boleyn's women hated her and were keen to start slagging her off to anyone who'd listen, and there's that weird "Cremwall" nickname thing, and knowing how that it all ends it was a wee bit "are we trying to say she deserved to die for being annoying?"
Which is probably another thing I find hard to shrug away while watching - that people will believe this to be an accurate account, even if they're told otherwise by the production itself, the way they do with Philippa Gregory things. But that's not the fault of this, really, so maybe I should just attempt to be less bothered.
idk about Wolf Hall, it looks nice and obviously i enjoy Historical Dramatic Nonsense but it's like the kind of fic where the author has used the "BAMF![character]" about their fave and much of the text is spent explaining how He Did Nothing Wrong Ever even though we all know he did and the attempts to present all these crimes are sympathetic often feel kind of icky and why does every female character fancy him now.
#the religious fanaticism of basically everyone in the story (by modern standards) makes any one-sidedness feel worse too i think?#i know people that found the books impossible to get through for that reason.#the dorothea bit was great though yeah.#historical fiction

I had to rewatch the eyeball bit in Avengers (2012) because a mutual insists there was no eye gouging involved technically. And like it's true.. the eye wasn't gouged. but still I find it funny Loki & co designed an eyeball scanner with spikes to embed on the face around the eye. Why did Loki & co deem the spikes necessary? xD Loki's like "No pain no gain. Someone has to suffer." lol
#this kind of thing is why i think of Avengers!Loki as doing Performative Villainy. he's so determined! trying so hard!#look he even made the not-eye-gouger look like an eye-gouger! what a fucking drama queen lol.#i approve of these things btw. i don't want anyone thinking i don't. i love a good baddy even if they aren't actually very good at baddying#this must be why he only managed to kill 80 people in 2 days or whatever that pathetically low number was.#bless his little heart!#his funny little ways!#his daft helmet with the massive gold horns on!
