the two reasons i, as a native speaker, have mispronounced a word in english:
word is french in origin but i have foolishly treated it as an 'english' word and applied the usually-right-if-you're-lucky spelling rules.
the word is french in origin but it's thousand year old norman french and my 'wait, this one must be french' guess led to me not applying the usual rules and trying to make half the letters silent* when in fact it's been pronounced 'englishly' for several centuries by this point.
*i don't speak french but as far as i can tell neither do the french or at least they do not do so audibly.

i'm very suspicious of the "BAMF [character]" AO3 tags and i don't want to be but there's a lot of fics that use them that turn into 'what if MY FAVE was allowed to just kick the shit out of everyone i think was mean to them?' which i'm sure is a great genre of fiction if that's what you're into but i seem to be not that into it :(

Fun Story to Share.
I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.
Well - she got this email this morning:
The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.
Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).
Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
