Rdr1 presented us with like 2 queer characters really (during a mission on Mexico) and it wasn't even a hint it was just plain out there.

Bro my first play through I HATED De Santa so so much - but (even though obvi if I met him I'd beat his ass), I've grown to love him in missions

It's nice that they managed to have gay characters that whilst they are mocked for its it isnt their personality, and dont follow the stereotypes. That's my favourite kind of representation sometimes rather than the characters core attribute being that "representation". That's so weird because hes obviously not like representation I doubt rockstar thought "the gays'll love this one!!!!"

I always like to headcanon him becoming an alcoholic mainly because I love the tragedy of him turning into his father. Also, how else could he cope with the things he's done? The way he betrayed his values?

We know Javier's father was an alcoholic, and his family (like most) were essentially slaves to the Allende family. As a child, Javier witnissed his uncle be brutally tortured and murdered after asking that the workers got fair pay from Allende (not Agustin, but his uncle). We don't know much about their family dynamics, but it's implied that Javier was closer with his uncle than his father (probably due to the alcoholism).

I like the idea that witnessing his uncle's brutal killing is what made him want to become a revolutionary. He vowed to himself that he'd fight for the people and be some sort of Robin Hood. He wanted to be like his uncle, not his dad. Unfortunately, after Guarma, he lost that spark and fell into a deep depression where he turned to alcoholism like his father had. Then, of course, he fell right back into the arms of the Allendes (now working as an assassin for Agustin).

He tried so hard to break the cycle and do good for his country, but in the end, the cycle continued. He went from fighting for his uncle to giving up and drinking like his dad. It's deliciously tragic.

do you think Javier became an alcoholic after rdr2? Or at least during the epilogue? I keep seeing that he was, but I’m not sure.

It is just headcanons, canoncially there is nothing pointing to it. Most people just think he acts different from rdr2 and looks a bit more crusty and think it is alcohol, thus we get:

I wouldn't say he is an alcoholic, he looks more crusty, yes, but there are several different reasons for that.

He aged 12 years.

He completely lost himself and had to rebuild his entire personality, ideology and existance.

His haircut is questionable.

The game's style is different.

Look at John, he also looks crustier in rdr1, why? Because of age, maturity and the fact that it was made in 2010, they weren't able to make as smooth and fluid motions like they could in 2018.

when im playing rdr2 can slowly start hearing arthur start wheezing and coughing more and more during stranger missions as he starts losing weight quicker and his whistle dont sound right no more and i can see his skin getting paler as time passes
