i always see sensory avoidant autistic people talking about how their favourite foods are all plain carbs but where are the sensory seeking autistics who live on garlic and spicy foods? the ones who will eat a straight lemon and hate buttered noodles.

my heart goes out to you if you're a disabled person who has a complicated or negative relationship with sleep. if you need to sleep a lot but can't due to life circumstances, or sleeping extra causing other symptoms to flare up. if you can't sleep enough due to pain, or nightmares, or psychosis, or bipolar, or depression. if you sleep way too much and find it hard to stay awake. if you can't fall or stay asleep. if you need medication in order to be able to sleep. if you don't feel rested from sleep. if you wake up a lot in the night. if you have bladder or bowel accidents while asleep. if you twitch or convulse or move too or get injured in your sleep. if you can't control your sleep schedule no matter what. if you can't sleep during "normal" sleeping hours. if you can't sleep for 8+ hours straight but can sleep for shorter amounts of time. if sleep is what you need but for one reason or another you just can't or refuse to do it.
i care about you. your disabilities deserve to be seen and acknowledged

shout out to “gross” disabled people.
people who can’t shower/bathe people who can’t shave people who can’t wash their clothes people who need help going to the bathroom people who have nasty habits (biting nails, picking nose, etc) people who can’t brush their teeth people who can’t go to the doctor people who can’t clean their room people who can’t make their beds people who vomit a lot people who wet the bed people who constantly have diarrhea people who’s physical deformities are seen as repulsive
and every other kind of person I missed that deserves to be here too.
you are people, first and foremost. your thoughts deserve to be heard, discussed, acknowledged, no matter what. you are not lesser. you are just another person. you should never be ignored for what you can/can’t do. you deserve care.
to abled people: check yourself. make sure you listen. and you can reblog, just don’t derail. maybe don’t add on, either.
EDIT: reblog this version instead, please.

People only have so much patience for those of us with chronic illnesses, chronic pain, and or mental health difficulties.
At the beginning there is so much support (or at least more support) but when they realise you're not recovering as quickly as they'd like... you get avoided, isolated, told you're exaggerating, etc. They seldom think about how those of us with chronic issues feel. How overwhelming it is to deal with everything day in and day out. There is so much anxiety, depression, grief, etc when dealing with chronic issues regardless of what they are.
If you're even more isolated because people refuse to see how much you're struggling or you're not recovering "fast enough" for the people around you just know you're not alone! There are so many of us in the same boat too

hot take apparently but just because youre disabled doesnt mean you arent ableist. being disabled doesnt erase your internalized (or externalized) ableism.
if youre paralyzed and you think ambulatory wheelchair users are 'less deserving' of a wheelchair, thats ableism.
if you have adhd and you make fun of autistic people, thats ableism.
if you have dyslexia and think dyscalculia and dyspraxia arent "real problems," thats ableism.
if you have any disability and think ableists should be 'punished' for their ableism by becoming disabled themselves. believe it or not that is in fact ableism, because it perpetuates the idea that disability is something shameful or something that only happens to bad people

Cripplepunk, madpunk, and neuropunk aren't just "I'm disabled and also left-leaning". It's a specific realm of activism rooted in dismantling the systems that put disabled, mad, sick, etc folks at a disadvantage in society. This mean not only being against the very systems that harm us but also understanding their colonial origins and continued racist legacies. (Anti-ableism, anti-sanism, anti-psych, etc). This means not only just identifying and finding pride in your disability but also building and constantly evolving your understanding of disability and diversity and learning how you can change your worldview to accurately highlight the struggles of disabled people. (EVEN if it sometimes means you will be uncomfortable or unsure of unlearning some kinds of hate.)

according to most news outlets, trump has won the presidency with 277 electoral votes to harris’ 224. as an autistic/adhd nonbinary afab person in a queer relationship, i am reaching out to everyone who will be affected by this election and reminding all of you that we survived. we survived the first trump election. we survived regan. we survived nixon. and we will survive this.
this will be his final term as president. and whatever happens, we will be there to pick up the pieces. even if we have to rebuild our country brick by stonewall brick, we will.
punk lives with us. the queer community, the disabled community, and america’s women will be okay. we will fight. we will survive. and our children will live.

a lot of you got a kick out of my service dog’s battle jacket, so i thought i’d share some more pictures of the man himself.
i know people have a lot of stereotypes about what service dogs and their handlers are “supposed” to look like, and it confuses people to see a young, seemingly able bodied punk rocker with a service dog.
but i share this to say, that if you as a disabled person don’t see a life for yourself, you can create one. when i started to realize i was disabled almost 10 years ago, i certainly didn’t imagine this is where i’d be now. in fact, i didn’t even plan to making it to this point.
but a diagnosis doesn’t have to mean the end of the world. sometimes your world is just beginning. some people are of the belief that everything happens for a reason. me, not so much. i’ll never be grateful for the suffering i experienced in this world, but i will always, always be glad i chose to stay in it.
#sorry if this post is like. sappy and more emotional than usual#i know it’s kinda unnecessarily long but u guys like that sometimes#lmk if you want more service dog info im always happy to talk about him#punk#punk patches#diy#punk diy#disability#patches#actually autistic#patch inspo#punk subculture#cripple punk#c punk#disabled punk#chronically ill#service dog#disabled positivity#mental health#tw mental health

i know this won't be available everywhere, but especially if you live in a larger city where a lot of folks are affected by opioid use/addiction, it's a really good idea to ask local pharmacies, and even food banks if they are giving out free narcan (naloxone). this can also be found at certain behavioral health offices as well, my case manager is able to get them for me for free. narcan is a life saving medication that can temporarily halt an opioid (oxycodone, hydrocodone, heroin, fentanyl, codeine, morphine, etc.) overdose while you wait for emergency medical services to arrive.
opioid overdose is distress of the respiratory system, meaning that the person overdosing likely is struggling to, or can't breathe at all. it's very important to watch to see if the person is dealing with labored or shallow breathing.
here the official use guide:
[Image ID start: Two screenshots from the FDA's Narcan (Naloxone HCl) Quick Start Guide infographic. It reads:
"Narcan (Naloxone HCl) Nasal spray quick start guide. Opioid Overdose Response Instructions.
Use NARCAN Nasal Spray (naloxone hydrochloride) for known or suspected opioid overdose in adults and children.
Important: For use in the nose only.
Do not remove or test the NARCAN Nasal Spray until ready to use.
1.) Identify Opioid Overdose and Check for Response Ask the person if they are okay and shout name.
Shake shoulders firmly and rub the middle of their chest.
Check for signs of Opioid Overdose:
Will not wake up or respond to your voice or touch
Breathing is very slow, irregular, or has stopped
Center part of their eye is very small, sometimes called "pinpoint pupils".
Lay the person on their back to receive a dose of NARCAN nasal spray.
2.) Give NARCAN nasal spray
Remove NARCAN nasal spray from the box. Peel back the tab with the circle to open the NARCAN nasal spray.
Hold the NARCAN nasal spray with your thumb at the bottom of the plunger and your first and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle.
Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into either nostril.
Tilt the person's head back and provide support under the neck with your hand. Gently insert the tip of the nozzel into one nostril, until your fingers on either side of the nozzle are against the bottom of the person's nose.
Press the plunger firmly to give the dose of NARCAN nasal spray.
Remove the NARCAN Nasal Spray from the nostril after giving the dose.
3.) Call for emergency medical help, Evaluate, and Support
Get emergency medical help right away.
Move the person on their side (recovery position) after giving NARCAN Nasal Spray
Watch the person closely.
If the person does not respond by waking up, to voice or touch, or breathing normally another dose may be given. NARCAN Nasal Spray may be dosed every 2 - 3 minutes, if available.
Repeat Step 2 using a new NARCAN Nasal Spray to give another dose in the other nostril. If additional NARCAN Nasal Sprays are available, repeat step 2 every 2 to 3 minutes until he person responds or emergency medical help is received.
For more information about NARCAN Nasal Spray go to www.narcannasalspray.com, or call 1-844-4NARCAN (1-844-462-7226)."

Being disabled and a person of color is so different to being disabled and white. There's so much extra stigma and prejudice and just shit that us PoC have to go through with doctors and friends and just the world to get what we need and want.
Idk, I just don't see a lot of posts talking about what it's like being a person of color and disabled (especially when you're more dependent upon others) so, feel free to share you stories.

Just in case anyone else needed to hear this today-
Your health is not your fault. You didn’t do anything to “deserve” this. And you are right, it isn’t fair. You are allowed to feel upset, hurt, angry and jealous that your health, body or mind disables you.
It’s not fair, and that sucks. You are allowed to scream about that as much as you need to.
