“Sirius, I don’t think-” James started, trying not to sneeze as a bit of Sirius’s hair tickled his nose.

“Shut up,” Sirius murmured from in front of him, cutting him off.

“Sirius, this is ridicu-” James tried again, stumbling as they both tried their best to walk together under the Invisibility Cloak, pressed so close that James could smell Sirius’s hair potion.

“Shut up, Prongs!” the other boy stopped him again, flinging a hand out to stop him in his tracks and slowly leaning around the corner of the corridor they were tiptoeing down.

“Sirius, I really feel like stalking Moony isn’t a good-” he tried for a third time, impatience rising.

“James, be quiet!”

Both boys fell silent, listening to the two people closeby.

“....thanks for the tutoring session, Remus! It was really helpful!”

“No problem, Arabella! Let me know if you ever need more help!”

James and Sirius glued themselves to the wall as Remus and a fifth-year Ravenclaw walked past, hardly daring to breathe. It was only after their footsteps completely faded away that Sirius pulled the Cloak off both of them and looked to James, a manic look of glee in his eyes. “Ha! I told you they weren’t dating!” he exclaimed.

“I…never thought they were,” James grumbled, rolling his eyes.

But Sirius was already setting off, a bounce in his step.

Sometimes I think about how James’s animagus was a deer, like wolves literally hunt deers for sport and I chuckle just a bit cause I find it hilarious cause now all I can think about is how whenever the full moon is close, Remus gets all grumpy and uncomfortable and restless and it’s like the wolf can sense that James is a deer so Remus tries to avoid James whenever the full moon is close but James ( the idiot ) makes it worse by being close to him all the time that it’s actually so comical cause like Remus would try to hide away in the Library and James would be like “ There you are mate I’ve been looking all over for you “ and then he’d just sit next to him and start yapping about random stuff cause he’s trying to get Remus’s mind of the moon but Remus just gets more restless that outta nowhere he just bites James’s shoulder ( I’m full on cackling right now ) and for some reason I kinda picture it as that scene in Madagascar where Alex bites Marty

and it’s just soooo quiet ( cause Remus still hasn’t let go ) until finally James gets over the initial shock of it and just continues on yapping like nothing happened cause he knows Moony is stressed and it’s not like he’s actually hurting him like he doesn’t leave any bite marks or anything. This happens almost every time before the moon that it starts to become their sort of “thing” , like James is completely used to it by now plus he’s definitely sure at this point Moonys only doing it to mess with him. He even does it in just regular occasions now, like if James was being annoying or says something stupid or even when he tries to compliment Remus, Remus would just playfully bite him and James would just be like “ you want some salt with that?”

I've seen them so often, I crave to write a story where Regulus and Sirius are doing some dark-magic shit and land in a different reality where their parents, while still employing dark magic, are good parents who love them, are attentive and teach them cool, forbidden magic but don't use it against them.

And maybe it should just be that.

My new favourite headcannon is Regulus and Lily being good friends, bonding over the fact they’re both younger siblings and feel hated and abandoned by their siblings. Lily is always trying to make Regulus see that Sirius is nothing like her sister and that he cares for him and she keeps on telling Sirius to fight for his brother.

She knows that Sirius is nothing like her sister until the prank. For the first time she thinks, she might have been wrong.

Remus is sitting in an armchair doubled over with laughter. Sirius has fallen out of his chair and is cackling on the floor with tears in his eyes from laughing so hard. Regulus is sitting on the couch trying his best to stay composed. And James in standing in the middle of the room with more passion and fire in his eyes than Regulus has ever seen.

“Hold on! Hold on! Hold on!” James is shouting.

“James—” Regulus tries to calmly interrupt.

“HOLD ON!” James looks pointedly at Regulus and his eyes look like they’re going to literally pop out of his head. “Her sister was a witch, right?” Regulus is trying so hard to hold back his laughter. “And what was her sister? A princess! The Wicked Witch of the East, Reg.” James is yelling, not unkindly just very passionately, looking directly at Regulus and nodding his head aggressively to emphasize every point.

James starts pacing in genuine distress. Sirius is rolling on the floor holding his stomach and laughing so hard his entire body is shaking. Remus has his hands over his mouth, which is doing absolutely nothing to contain his laughter.

Regulus stands up to meet James in the middle of the room. “I’m gonna stab him.” He mumbles under his breath, which makes Sirius laugh even harder—if that’s even possible.

James whips around to face Regulus. “You’re gonna looks at me and you’re gonna tell me that I’m wrong? Am I wrong?” James asks emphatically.

And the thing is—James is, in fact, very wrong. “It’s my favorite—” Regulus tries to interject but can’t even get a word in.

“She wore a crown, and she came down in a bubble, Reg!” And that proves absolutely nothing.

Regulus knows he’ll never get James to listen to him. “I’m not fighting with you.” He shakes his head, chuckling fondly.

James makes his way out of the living room. “Grow up!” He says over his shoulder.

“I’m not fighting with you.” Regulus says again.

“Grow up.” James seems to be losing steam as he leaves the room.

“Get educated!” Regulus yells then flops down on the couch and finally lets his laughter out.

Eventually Regulus, Sirius and Remus’ laugher fades into soft chuckles as they calm down and take several deep breaths to compose themselves.  

It’s a few minutes later when James appears in the doorway with a sheepish look on his face—that Regulus thinks is adorable. He slowly makes his way over to the couch and sits down beside Regulus. He’s quiet for a few moments then turns slightly to look at Regulus.   

“I’m not really mad.” James says in a small voice. “And you know I love you, right?”

Regulus chuckles fondly and takes James’ face in his hands. “Yes, I know you love me, Jamie.” He leans in to kiss James softly then pulls back the tiniest bit. “But you’re still wrong.” Regulus whispers against James lips.

"So," James whispered, standing next to Sirius as they both waved their wands just how Flitwick had shown them, "when are you gonna tell Moony?"

"Tell Moony what?" Sirius responded, trying not to look too suspicious as he practiced the incantation in his head.

"That you're gone for him," James answered casually, smirking as he began to mumble Expecto Patronum, only to achieve white smoke.

"Wh-what?" Sirius stuttered, turning to James, who looked smug.

"You were staring at him the whole lecture. You doodle moons in your notes. Your Amortentia smells like chocolate, for fuck's sake," James chided, furrowing his eyebrows as he only conjured smoke again. "It's bloody obvious to everyone except Moony himself, Pads."

"You're barking," Sirius denied, rolling his eyes. But it was Remus who he was picturing as he focused himself on the spell. Remus, whose eyes were the perfect shade of brown. Remus, whose smile always made Sirius feel so safe, and a bit floaty. "Expecto Patronum," he murmured, his heart leaping when a corporeal animal jumped from the tip of his wand.

But James let out of a shout of laughter when they saw what it was: a giant, silvery wolf, short snout and tufted tail making him distinct in every way. "Yeah, Pads? Wanna tell me again what you said a second ago?"

And, blushing crimson, Sirius stared at Patronus-Moony, unable to deny his feelings, knowing that his own spell had sold him out.
