Sirius' patronus is a small, slender cat. It's fussy and pretends to scratch him every so often. The cat looks like it's partway between being a kitten and a fully grown cat. Sirius will never know that his patronus has a counterpart.

Regulus will know.

Regulus and Remus who find one another when Sirius and James are caught up in each other.

Even though Remus has known them since first year, it feels like they speak a language he doesn’t know. Regulus picks up on it. He’s been watching Sirius and James for ages, jealous he couldn’t have either of them.

Regulus feels bad because he didn’t see Remus at first. His eyes would slide right past him, honing in on his brother and James. Now that he knows him, now that they have being “the second choice” in common, he’s thankful for the companionship.

When Sirius and James are speaking in their language, they look at each other and exchange their own glances. They share books and leave annotations for the other. Regulus comes to possess a couple Moony Sweaters™.

Remus even meets Barty and Evan. He notices that they have a language of their own too.

Remus and Regulus make their own language, and nobody ever really seems to notice. Not Sirius. Not James. Just the two of them.

1) In July 1976, he came to the Potters through their floo together with unconscious Sirius. He left again before Effie and Monty came.

2) After his brother got away from home, he continued to secretly check on him.

4) He hexed another Slytherin for insulting Pandora.

5) He got punished for it by his mother. That was the second time he came through the Potters's floo.

but it’s regulus only being able to transition after sirius runs away and the black family needs an heir. it’s walburga forbidding any communication between the two brothers. it’s sirius running around in desperation to try and find his ‘sister’ once school starts. it’s him believing that his parents sent his ‘sister’ to beauxbatons like they always said they would. it’s sirius meeting regulus in the astronomy tower, finally realising that he now had a brother and he wasn’t even aware.

What if on Christmas every year growing up, Sirius and Regulus never had ‘Santa’ come by. What if every year Regulus and Sirius wondered why all the other children got gifts while they got nothing. What if Sirius figures it out when he’s 8 and Regulus is 5, realizes it’s their parent’s fault not theirs, and tries to fix it. What if Sirius convinces Regulus it’s because they don’t have a tree, so every year now they make Christmas trees out of paper, put gifts for each other around there, and at night when Regulus is sleeping- Sirius slips two extra ones in; one for each of them. What if he keeps doing it every year, until Regulus is 13 and still believing in Santa- because his PARENTS would never do that.

What if when Sirius runs away, it’s Regulus’ first Christmas alone- and it’s hard enough without his brother- but he makes the little Christmas tree and does his little ritual, and then wakes up the next morning to nothing.

What if Regulus’ childhood dies the same day Sirius’ starts, gathered around a real tree with James and his family.

What about that.

Regulus Arcturus Black, but he survived the cave.

Regulus Arcturus Black, who survived the cave, and the Inferi, and now has to return home.. but he can’t go to number twelve- not after his betrayal. His incriminating actions, in the eyes of the dark lord.

Regulus Arcturus Black, who goes to the only person he can think of… his brother.

Regulus Arcturus Black, who staggers up to the Potter’s front door; one leg mangled beyond recognition, half his face disfigured by the inferi’s claws. Sirius could almost think he were a wraith, come to haunt him, if he didn’t recognize his little brother’s birthmark on his neck. The only thing their mother had deemed an imperfection in Regulus.

Regulus Arcturus Black, who passes out upon sight of his brother, because now he can rest. Sirius has him, and he’ll be safe. Sirius has him, and Regulus won’t have to worry.

(And if you want angst (sorry not sorry,) but Regulus Arcturus Black, who succumbs to his wounds in his brother’s arms, because he finally feels accomplished, finally feels like he’s succeeded. He finally made Sirius proud, for what he’s done.)

what IFFFF instead of sirius leaving regulus, regulus BEGGED sirius to get out. sirius was dying and he refused to die without his brother near him so he tried to refuse when regulus told him to go but then regulus pretended to turn on sirius. Sirius called Walburga many things, not in a way that anyone would notice, but there are differences.

Everyone knew that’s Sirius’ mother. “My mother…” he would say.

The Marauders (and close friends) knew her as his mum. “Mum says…” he would say.

But Regulus heard him call her something different. Lying on the cold floor below his mother, her wand pointed at him, Sirius called out something else. As Walburga shouted Crucio, Sirius let out a pained mama. “Mama please…” he would say.

And Regulus just stood there, hearing his big brother scream, knowing he couldn’t do a thing to stop it.
