james: i couldn’t let him get any more hurt. he’s my brother, when he gets hurt i have to be there-

A snippet of jegulily because I am a sucker for anything with regulus and Jegulus inside and lily is great too I just- I’m digging myself into a deep hole but. Jegulily.
"Lils."
She hummed, idly turning her head to show she was listening. Her eyes were fixed on the figure across the library, watching how long pale fingers danced along the spines of aged tomes with a reverence that made her sigh.
"Lily," James repeated, sounding more amused this time. "Come back to me, love."
"I'm listening, James," she muttered, glancing at him sullenly.
James quirked an eyebrow at her, his grey eyes darting pointedly to where Regulus stood, entrenched in his hunt for whatever book it was he deemed important to their research.
"It looked more like you were admiring the view," he said with a smirk. "I mean, not like I blame you. He's rather pretty, isn't he?"
She scowled even as her lips twitched upwards. "Jealous?" she purred, leaning forward and angling her mouth to his ear and placing a hand on his chest. "I admit, I was thinking of what he'd look like in between us. I bet we could make him sing, huh?"
James shivered lightly under her palm, and she knew he was imagining the same thing. "He does have a good mouth on him," he added softly under the protective fall of her hair. "And a sharp tongue."
"I'll take his mouth," Lily murmured, nipping playfully on her not-yet husband's ear. "You can enjoy him in other ways."
"That's not fair," James replied, fingers trailing up her bare forearm teasingly. "But damn if I wouldn't enjoy watching that."
They jolted apart when a tome was dropped onto the table they were occupying, the loud slap echoing in the relative silence of the library. Lily and James flushed, looking up into Regulus' unimpressed face.
There was no embarrassment there though, and Lily prayed that meant he hadn't overheard them.
"I know you're physically seventeen again," Regulus began, tone impossibly dry, "but do try not to hump each other in public, please."
"Aw, Reggie," James pouted, continuing before Lily could jam an elbow into his gut, "we didn't mean to make you feel left out."
Regulus rolled his eyes, huffing with the air of a prissy cat, but he didn't comment.
Lily and James shared a look. It wasn't a flat out rejection of the idea at least.
