discuss - Jegulus Microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - word count: 348
"Padfoot, what the fuck is this?" James asked, sighing as he entered the empty classroom he'd been led to by a cryptic noted signed with a pawprint.
"This, my dear Prongs, is the most important class I shall ever teach!" Sirius announced from the front of the room.
"The only class he'll ever teach," Peter murmured from one of the desks, where he had his feet kicked up.
"Save all questions until the end, please!" Sirius said dramatically, waving his hands all around.
James took a breath, staring at the chalkboard. There, scribbled in Sirius's handwriting, were two titles: Things regarding dating Reggie that James may discuss and Things regarding dating Reggie that James may never, ever, EVER talk about again EVER.
"So we're here to talk about prank ideas then?" he quipped, sliding into a seat and grinning.
Remus, who was sitting at the teacher's desk, chuckled. Sirius, however, looked scandalized. "Mister Potter, don't make me take points from Gryffindor!" he admonished.
"Yes, Professor Black," James smirked.
"Now Class," Sirius said, giving James a stern look. "This is very important. Because some of you seem to be under the impression that since I have accepted this new relationship, you can talk about whatever you want, so-"
"But I already have some questions. Under the things James can talk about side, you have 'hand holding.' What if the hands are holding other body parts besides hands? Because I've found that Regulus is very good at using his hands to-" James started in, a shit-eating grin on his face.
"Absolutely not!" Sirius yelled, grabbing a piece of chalk and circling 'hand holding,' drawing an arrow to move it to the other side.
"What about 'Reggie's arse?'" James continued, causing both Remus and Peter to let out shocked laughs. "It's not on either list. Can I...?"
"No!" Sirius grimaced, adding it to the appropriate side.
Then, Remus spoke, grinning from ear to ear. "Can I talk about Regulus's arse? It is rather ni-"
And Sirius banged his head against the chalkboard, whimpering to himself. "I hate you all," he muttered.

"Sirius left first" "Regulus left first"
They both left
Back and forth
It was dominoes
One made a move
The other moved further away
Sirius left for school
Regulus listened to his parents more
Sirius befriended james
Regulus became a little colder
Sirius distanced himself
Regulus became angry
It was back and forth back and forth
A chain of events
And who knocked over the first domino?
It wasn't either of them
It was always their parents
The cause of their rift
They pulled Regulus closer and shoved Sirius further
I don't blame either of the brothers for what happened to them
I only blame their parents
And the world they were stuck in

I always imagined that although Sirius defied Walburga in many ways, Regulus also had a bit of that rebel in him.
When Sirius and Regulus were young, Walburga never let them have anything sweet. She wanted them to look good all the time and meet the standards of the Noble and Ancient House of Black. Whenever they even tried to secretly get any type of sweet from Kreature, she would end up knowing and always get extremely angry.
Although Sirius defied her as soon as he sat on the train to Hogwarts, he ended up disliking the first candy he tried and never tried it again. (Bertie Botts every flavour beans)
However, Regulus, being the rebel he is, started to keep a huge stash of all types of candy hidden in his room where not even Barty or Evan could find it. It has every candy you could even think of. He especially keeps candies that all his friends liked. Regulus would also be the one to introduce a good candy to Sirius which would make him start liking candies too.
Regulus would also keep candies in his pockets, with each day of the week having a different type of candy. He would also try and bribe people with candy every now and then.

Regulus walking with headphones in with Sirius walking next to him.
Sirius: [Taps Regulus on the shoulder]
Regulus: [Takes out headphones] What?
Sirius: You couldn’t hear me? I’ve been talking to you for the past 5 minutes.
Regulus: Really?? I thought you were just making ugly faces at me.

wedding - january 20 - black brothers - jegulus - @black-brothers-microfic - word count: 442
"Fuck," Regulus mumbled, scrubbing at his face and turning from the mirror, trying to ignore the way his stomach was doing somersaults. "Fuck."
He was trying not to panic. He shouldn't be panicking. There was no reason to. He'd never been more sure about a decision in his life. But...
"Reg?"
It was Sirius's concerned voice that broke him. That caused the carefully-laid dam to finally crack, allowing the tears to fall. And suddenly, he was shaking, falling into his brother's arms, heaving breaths, whispering his fears into Sirius's shoulder as he gasped for air.
"....can't do this, Sirius! I can't, because then- someday, he'll realize!" he moaned, hardly coherent. "I'll stand up here in front of everyone...make a total idiot of myself and say how much I- how much I- l-love him! And then he'll realize that he's worth s- so much m-more than me! That I'm not- not good enough for him! I'm bloody worthless! And then everyone will know! Everyone will look back and see how stupid I am!" He took a huge breath, still trembling. "I can't do that! I can't- can't give myself to someone like that! I can't-"
But Sirius, who was staring at him with an odd expression, moved forward, clapping a hand over his mouth with a small smack! "Shut, up. Don't talk about my brother like that," he said, frowning. "You are not worthless, you stupid idiot! You're...you're everything! Especially to James, are you daft?"
Regulus gazed up at his brother, eyes wide, mouth still covered, shocked by his reaction.
"James would literally kill for you. He's never, ever, loved someone as much as he loves you, and he's not going to leave you, so don't you dare think anything like that, Reg," Sirius continued, looking almost angry. "He is here, and he loves you, and he's so bloody excited to marry you. So you will get your arse down the aisle if I have to drag you down myself. Because if you keep talking like that, I'll have to go get James, and you know he'll talk sense into you really fast. Okay?" He slowly removed his hand, staring daggers.
Breaths easing, heart slowing to a normal pace, tears ceasing, Regulus nodded numbly. "Ye-yeah."
"Good. Now. Let's clean you up. You can't look like shit on your wedding day, yeah?" Sirius asked, voice much softer, now.
"Yeah..." he mumbled.
"And Reg? I love you. You deserve this. You deserve to be loved," Sirius whispered, sending him such a soft smile that Regulus wanted to cry.
"Alright, don't go soft on me now," he murmured instead, heading to the bathroom to clean up.

just a baby jegulus blurb
a/n: since google says the Black brothers are only two years apart i kind of imagine them looking pretty similar when they were younger. this takes place the train ride to hogwarts for marauders third year and regulus’ first.
——————————————————————————
Regulus Black sat in a carriage by himself. He was one of the first students on the train, waiting while the other children said goodbye to their parents. Regulus kept his demeanour calm, collected. He learnt to hide his emotions after seeing what happened to his older brother for expressing them. Inside though, contrary to his appearance, he nervous-no, excited. A strange word. As a black, you never have much to be excited for.
As the train filled up, Regulus would sneer at the other students approaching his carriage. They knew who he was; An elite, Part of the Sacred 28, A Black. He used his perfectly ironed clothes and gelled curls like a shield against the world. He sat in his seat, head buried in a book, unfocused as the train made its last call. As the train finally started to move, Regulus stood up, closing the doors to his carriage to ensure everyone knew they were unwelcome.
“Black!”
Regulus turned his head from either side, not recognizing anyone. While on the platform Sirius had given him strict instructions to stay far away from him; so naturally as Regulus watched Sirius walk to the far end of the train, he walked in the opposite direction. If Sirius wandered back over here and then was going to blame him-
“Did you not hear me calling you?” Asked the same voice that called his brothers name as he shoved his way ungracefully into Regulus carriage. Regulus merely glanced up at him, hoping the glare would be enough to scare him away like the others. “You cut your hair!?” The boy gasps, astonished.
“What?” Regulus sneered. Who is this?
“You’ve lost some weight too, haven’t ya?” The boy was using a lighter tone but it was obvious that he was concerned. “They decide to stop feeding ya or something?”
Regulus stood up. “Excuse me?” He says with an incredulous look on his face. Who was this numpty boy to come in here and talk down on his family. Does he not know of the Black legacy? Who is he to accuse his parents of-
“So, I guess you’ve met my brother.”
•••••••••••••••••••••
James saw Sirius in a new light once he stepped on the train in third year. He was suddenly mature, proper, elegant. The opposite of everything he stood for when he had left the previous term. He looked younger, he still had the same eye bags-if not worse-but he looked less spent, he looked sharper. Had his parents lightened up during the summer? He was lean- no, he was scrawny. As if he hadn’t been eating properly. His hair was pulled back into a bun that James couldn’t see as he called his name. Sirius made eye contact with James but looked away, not before giving him a dirty look. Had his parents found a letter he had written to Sirius over the summer?
“Did you not hear me calling you?” James asked as he wrestled his way through the doors. As the smaller boy turned to look up at James with a menacing glare, James saw Sirius had not in fact pinned up his hair, he had cut it off. “You cut your hair?!” James asked incredulously.
Something had changed in Sirius over the summer. He wasn’t warm and shining like he usually was. He wasn’t demanding attention like he tended to do, flaunting his red and gold colours. He seemed nervous, insecure, like he was shrivelling in on himself but putting on a brave, mean, face.
“You’ve lost some weight too, haven’t ya?” James tried to joke. “They decide to stop feeding ya or something?”
James let out a nervous chuckle when Sirius stood from his seat, obviously not pleased with the joke. The boy in front of him was small, frail, but the power he held was not. It was dark, strong, consuming; and he knew it. It was obvious that the boy standing in front of James had power and he knew how to use it. A new threatening aura surrounding him like it never had in the past years.
“Excuse me?” Sirius asks, standing up. It felt as though Sirius was towering over James even though in reality, he was a head shorter; even with Sirius’ unusually pristine posture and James’ lacking one. Since when did Sirius get so defensive? Since when did he care about jokes like that?
“So, I guess you’ve met my brother.”
——————————————————————————
a/n: i hc that when sirius’ friends found out about regulus, they all were obsessed with him like “omg baby black!!” but sirius would hate it and get mad at regulus as if it was his fault, so regulus would stop entertaining them because he wanted sirius to like him, and sirius’ friends kinda stopped caring about regulus cus he was being cold towards them and not fun anymore, and then when sirius opened up about his home life, and regulus started hanging around barty and mulciber, sirius kinda decided regulus was just like their parents and that’s when he and his friends started bullying regulus-except james never took part in the bullying. ever since the train ride he noticed there was something different in regulus; he wasn’t like his parents. maybe it was james’ saviour complex, his need for everyone to like him, or his belief that everyone has some goodness in them (except for those he doesn’t want to believe that for like sirius’ parents and snape and barty-because how dare barty protect regulus from the world-thats james’ job.).
- i hope me referring to regulus as sirius in james’ pov isn’t confusing

@black-brothers-microfic — January 19 — Alien — word count: 380
➽──────────────❥
It had been years since he had stepped foot in this place. Number 12 Grimmauld Place, even the name sounded strange to him now. He walked alone through the empty halls, pictures of his ancestors lining the walls, looking down at him as he passed. Just as they had when they were alive.
Sirius remembered the day he left. He’d felt free, but there was still a hint of regret as he remembered his brother pleading with him to stay. He pushed the memory away, looking around the dark manor with a sense of familiarity. Each empty room reminded him of his life before. The harsh words, the cruel looks, the fear that always seemed to linger. He’d hated this place and everything that happened in it.
Sirius continued walking through the empty manor, feeling just as alien to it as he had all those years ago. The Noble House of Black was never a family he belonged to; he was fully aware of that. He’d never felt more alienated than he did when living here. But Reggie—Regulus was always the perfect son, and once it made him envious, angry even. But. He’d realized a long time ago that Regulus was only “perfect” because he had to be. Because Sirius failed.
Again, he shoved the memories away. He spent twelve years drowning in memories of his past; he wouldn’t do that now. He had a life again; he had to put it to use.
“Kreacher...?” He called out uncertainly, not sure if the elf was still here after all this time. But after a moment, he heard shuffling and turned, seeing Kreacher peering at him from behind a door, a scowl present on his face. “Ah, you are still here then.”
Kreacher didn’t say a word, but Sirius didn’t expect him to. He hadn’t paid much attention to the house elf when he was younger, not like Regulus had.
“I need the manor to be clean; people will be over.” Sirius instructed him. Kreacher turned away, muttering something under his breath that didn’t sound all that pleased.
Sirius sighed, looking around, his eyes lit with determination. He would turn this place into something new, something better. A place where the name Voldemort would no longer be appraised but fought against.
