Ah yes, the mandatory 'withdrawing before the holidays' where Regulus pulls away from James, and slowly starts to put back pieces of the wall James broke down before his return Grimmauld. Que the 'feeling cold' and/or 'missing his sun' when Reg goes back, but he's doing it to protect himself AND James from the prying eyes (read: legilimency) of Walburga Black.

You may also get an argument about duty and familial obligations that James 'wouldn't get' because he was not raised a Black, and his parents are supportive and wouldn't force him to do anything he doesn't want to do.

It is important to remember that step 4 and 5 can, and sometimes do, happen concurrently. Which one is resolved first honeslty just depends on where the fic is going.

Part 6

Step 4:

Sirius CANNOT find out about this, at least not yet. AKA James wants to come clean to his best friend, but Regulus "let me be the one to tell him," wants to wait a bit, keep enjoying what they have before they burst their bubble.

Of course there is the subsequent "this is exactly why I didn't want to tell you" argument between the brothers when Sirius inevitably finds out and Reacts Badly™ before Remus speaks (fucks??) some sense into him and makes him see reason.

He will begrudgingly allow it ( because "they make each other happy." He's pouty about it though).

(Took some creative liberties with some of these (the first one) meaning they weren't necessarily meant in the context I used, but were close enough to the general dialogue that normally would happen in that scenario)
