After what happened in episode 5, Amanda Waller puts Metropolis in martial law and has sent out the HDC, the Human Defense Corps. her military personnel roaming around and harassing innocent civilians.

The HDC makes its first appearance in Human Defense Corps, in its own limited series back in 2003 where they were a military unit that fights back against extraterrestrial forces [Cover art by Clement Sauve, Juan Viasco, Guy Major]. They have been folded into the US military to help fight back against New Krypton in Superman: War of the Supermen #3 (2010).

Also if you want to see what crazy shit Amanda Waller is doing in the comic book universe give Absolute Power #1 (2024) a read and you will see how ruthless she can get. Out on July 3rd. And just look at that amazing cover art by Dan Mora too and he'll be doing the interior art too with the fantastic Mark Waid as the writer! Also give their World's Finest series a shot too!

The episode's title is a reference to Ocean's Eleven. Ocean's Eleven is a 1960s heist movie about Danny Ocean, who he and 10 other associates of his team up together to rob several Las Vegas casinos. I first watched this movie when it was remade in 2001 starring former Batman, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon and have watched the later 2 sequels and the Oceans 8 spinoff starring Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, Danny's sister. Fun movies if you haven't seen them.

Later in the episode, Lois plans on stealing the Jump Drive Ship from S.T.A.R. Labs and the design of it kinda reminds me of...

the space ship that brought Superman to Earth from Superman the Animated series. Also a good Superman cartoon if you need your Superman fix when waiting for new MAwS episodes!

Lois and Jimmy head to Leslie and Rory's place to hire them to break into S.T.A.R. Labs to steal the ship. I talked more about them in here and here respectively. Nice to see the both of them as a couple during the final day of Pride Month! #LoveIsNotForCowards

And speaking of queer couples, when later in the scene Rory decided to "leave the mission" Jimmy brings along Mallah and the Brain to help steal the ship as well! I talked a bit about them here and here.

Mallah and the Brain recount to everyone their multiversal hopping and I talked about the DC multiverse here and Mallah finally gets his beret to match his comic counterpart and the Brain looks just like a Dalek from Doctor Who.

Not surprised that the MAwS crew are Doctor Who fans.

As Leslie details out a plan for them to steal the ship, we see that one of her sources has told her that the guard has a family member at Silver Age Nursing Home.

So for those not in the know, comic book history is divided up into eras. From 1938 (Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1) to 1956 is considered the Golden Age, the Silver Age was from 1956 to 1970, the Bronze Age was from 1970 to 1985, and the Modern Age was from 1985 to now.

Specifically, Silver Age of Comics was from 1956 to 1970. It began thanks to the success of the reintroduction of the then newest Flash, Barry Allen who debuted in Showcase #4 (1956). This era of comics is much more focused on science fiction and thanks to that a lot of powers and origins of superheroes now have a science/science fiction element to it for example the then new Green Lantern, Hal Jordan received his Green Lantern ring from a dying extraterrestrial, Abin Sir and Ray Palmer a.k.a the second Atom gains his powers from a white dwarf star matter. This was also the era where the Justice Society of America from the Golden Age was reimagined to the Justice League of America.

When Lex gets a surprise visit from Waller and Slade, he decides to show them Project M and explains what it is and shows off its capabilities when they go hunting Lois, Jimmy, Mallah, and the Brain. and based on what Lex says and the subtle design of the Project M robots, we can assume M is for Metallo like what AmerTek and Thomas Weston was developing in episode 3. Amity is a Dimensional Dump

So! Amity Park is a hub of weirdness of all sorts, mostly undead, but there are also a bunch of Multiversal oddities connected to the small town.

There are the minor anomalies. 5th Street has a bad habit of slipping into the Backrooms, Old Lady Jenkin's House sometimes has snow in summer, and of course the Night Sky had a 20% chance of swapping views to another Galaxy. Danny likes that one a lot.

But the biggest Anomaly is how many Multiversal Travellers get lost there.

They are always finding somebody wandering the streets with no idea where they are, and have to help them find their reality of origin. Other times they decide to stay for various reasons, ranging from a bad home life to being the only survivors of a Dead Universe. Half of the population if Amity was made up of the descendants of Lost Travelers, so their DNA was really a mixed bag.

Danny was flying over town when he spotted a Blur on the ground below.

He flew down to intercept, and found a boy in red and yellow panicking over his situation.

"Hey! Can I help you?" He called out.

The boy looked up, and gasped "Are you a Hero? I need help getting back to the Justice League!"

Danny chuckled, "Which one?"

The boy looked confused, "The Adult One? I guess?"

"Not what I meant, sorry. I mean, which Dimension are you from?" He clarified.

"Dimensions? What is going on!?" He shouted.

"Okay, let's calm down and restart. My name is Danny, who are you?" He introduced himself.

The boy took a deep breath, calming himself, before saying, "Okay, my name is Kid Flash, but you can just call me Wally."

the infinitely funnier version of enemies to caretaker with Jason and Tim (bc the ooc aged down incompetent Tim and weirdly protective Jason are overdone) is Tim after he gets adopted by Bruce deciding that he can’t have a loser brother that shoots people and refuses to go to therapy

so Tim is like “yeah, I can fix him” and batfam is like “NO TIM YOU CANT, HES A PSYCHOPATH WITH ANGER ISSUES” because at that point it’s been two years(??) and there’s been no to little improvement when it comes to Jason’s behavior

Tim being the stubborn bastard he is doesn’t listen though and in the following weeks (months??) just starts slowly forcing Jason to self reflect and take care of himself. I like to think Tim is threatening Jason with non-lethal violence and/or inconveniencing Jason to an unholy degree (one of said threats is Tim saying he’ll pull up to Jason’s safe house in a Red Hood costume and start shooting him)

in the end you just have a Jason who looks like his soul has left his body but behaving and a smug looking Tim who once again has proved he is right

(SPOILERS if you havent seen it obviously)

About 3ish minutes into the episode we see Clark be affected by red sun radiation, one of the non-Kryptonite weakness Superman has.

In the comics we first learn about this weakness in Action Comics #300 (1963), cover art by Curt Swan, George Klein, and Joe Letterese, where Superman is transported to the future by the Superman Revenge Squad, where the sun turned red thus losing his powers and has to find a way back home.

At the place where Jimmy was captured, we meet Monsieur Mallah and the Brain, at least MAwS version of these characters. I talk more about them in here. The episode has them depicted more like an old married couple with no supervillainous intentions compared to their comic counterparts...

who often associate themselves as enemies to the Doom Patrol and affliated with the Brotherhood of Evil. Also the Brain is usually French in the comics, here in MAwS, the Brain is German. The cover is from Outsiders #37 (2006) cover art by Daniel Acuna.

Back outside we see where Monsieur Mallah and the Brain took Jimmy, Cadmus Minefield.

Cadmus/Project Cadmus/the DNA Project, is known for its genetic engineering projects. The organization makes its first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #135 (1971) created by legendary comic book creator, Jack Kirby. Cadmus is pretty well known for cloning Superboy/Kon-el/Conner Kent. Like in MAwS Cadmus is a government sanctioned division that's located outside of Metropolis. Ironic since in MAwS the government disavows Cadmus. You can read more about it on these two pages from Who's Who in the DC Universe #12 (1991), the art is done by Dan Jurgens, Dennis Janke, and Anthony Tollins.

Later in the forest we see Lois and Clark have to deal with the OMACs.

In the comics, Jack Kirby created OMAC, at the time, the acronym stood for One Man Army Corp. Buddy Blank of Earth-AD (a future post-apocalyptic Earth) was selected to be part of the OMAC program where with the help of the Brother Eye satellite grants him powers of super strength, stamina and density control. The cover art here for OMAC #1 (1971) was done by Jack Kirby, Mike Royer, and Gaspar Saladino.

Years later OMAC gets reinvented to be a cyborgs of Brother Eye that was developed by Batman thanks to his paranoia about super powered heroes turning evil. The page here is from the OMAC Project #5 (W: Greg Rucka, P&I :Jesus Saiz, C: Hi-Fi, L: Phil Balsman). This iteration of OMAC uses the acronym for Omni-Mind and Community. These Cyborgs make their first appearance in the OMAC Project #1 (2005). MAwS's OMACs are a lot more robotic and Evangelion-esque designed compared to how they look in the comics. Note the mohawk/fin designs on OMACs heads in both iterations of the comics and how the robots are designed in MAwS.

Monsieur Mallah name drops Task Force X. I talked about the organization here

Monsieur Mallah mentions one dimensions in the universe where he and the Brain can be accepted. This brings to mind...

DC's multiverse. The multiverse makes its first appearance in the Flash #123 (1961) where Barry Allen and Jay Garrick meet for the first time. DC's multiple Earths have changed over the years from having only 52 distinct Earths to now infinite. The Multiverse map created by Grant Morrison and Rian Hughes, here is from Multiversity comic series.

Someone on the MAwS crew is a fan of the ED-209 design in Robocop.

After the fight with the OMACs, the Brain talks about the General. The only person in DC comics who usually goes by that moniker is...

General Wade Eiling. The panels here are from Captain Atom #1 (1987) (W: Cary Bates, P: Pat Broderick, I: Bob Smith, C: Carl Gafford, L: John Costanza). General Eiling is often associated with Suicide Squad/Task Force X. So it's possible that much like Parasite and Ivo, the MAwS team are combining characters by having...

him be a combination of General Eiling and General Sam Lane, Lois's dad. But who knows. Gotta wait for confirmation if this is either Eiling or Lane.

i love the idea of joining the batfam by dating bruce, but can you imagine how awkward it must be ?

like you are dating bruce, you most probably know he is batman (he couldn't date seriously someone and never tell them) which is like a huge thing, you probably knew each others for at least 5 years and dated for at least 2 before you even step foot in his house and even then ! you still have never meet any of his adopted kids, he always has a way of avoiding The meeting.

of course - you know who his kids are, bruce is ... literally the it guy of gotham, you very much know the names and faces of his family - but that's it (now if you know their vigilantes identities is different story)

the question is, are they aware of your existence ? (of course alfred is aware; that out of the question, he followed to development of yours and bruce relationship from a to z)

going more for a no, not at the start, bruce has this clumsy dumb bilionaire personality but he probably could not like for you to receive media attention because he doesn't wish for your privacy to be intruded upon because you are dating (now there may have been one instance where the paparazzi took a picture of you and him together, but they could only see you from the back, or your face wasn't visible for whatever reason). they probably learnt about your existence very late into your relationship with bruce, and it's surely by accident, like, one of them see a message from you to bruce (and it's something probably something very cheesy) when he left it somewhere by inadvertence. and depending on who see that, they either fully open bruce's phone (sorry but they all know his phone password, bruce isn't aware of that tho) and read your conversation or they find some others way to have access to his messages with you (that isn't so blatant).

they for sure, do an 'emergency' meeting about it (dick and damian were the two that really wanted to do one, the rest probably don't care that much at that time, they probably think you are just the fling of the month for bruce - well usually the fling of the month is not that ... cheesy with him ? in their messages, and the conversations aren't usually that long ... nor do they go back that much. but whatever ! they do suddenly notice that it's been a while, since, well the last fling of the month of bruce but, it must just be a coincidence) which end up with them keeping tabs on you, just in case

now, you meeting them could happen in two way

either they are the one to meet you first - they don't want to wait for bruce to formally introduce you to them - or them to you. the one that 'lead' this is for sure damian, he is determinate to find out your intention with his father (and fight you), dick will lie and say he is just there to make sure everything go 'well' but he is just genuinely very curious about you and the fact that you are dating bruce - this can go for most of them, tho cass and tim are probably the one that are the most reticent to meeting you ? but nevertheless, they still are here, because they for sure won't let damian and dick have all the 'fun'. now jason, is probably also coming for the shit and giggle.

or you meeting them could happen because of bruce - deciding that it's finally time you meet his kids, so he invite all of them to dinner telling them he was someone he wants them to meet, and telling you explicitly that he wants you to meet his family (and the people that are part of his family but aren't family family) - of course, he could talk about it with you first, he could never force you into that. the meet - dinner, probably do not go in the way bruce hoped for it to go (but truth be told, he wasn't expecting it to go the way he wished it did). it's not awful, nothing bad happen. it's just awkward. one of them (probably jason) let slip that they already knew about you - damian make it very clear that he doesn't accept you (and dick has to try to diffuse the situation and tell you that damian is just joking - damian is not joking and he gives a death glare to dick), tim probably do not say anything of half of the dinner before asking you a weird question about something he should have no information about (like what's up with one of your weird habit / quirk), cass is just silent - she assess you for the entirety of the dinner (she conclude by the end of it that you quite a nice person and that she likes you quite a bit), duke is very kind and is very polite with you (he is a bit apprehensive and isn't sure why he is there but he figures it's because bruce wanted to have at least one regular person treating you normally - dick is too ... enthusiastic for that role)

at the end of said dinner, when bruce is driving you home, it's probably the most silent ride home you have ever experienced. until you burst out laughing - the dinner was probably the funniest shit you experienced. it felt like it came straight out of a shitty tv show with 14 seasons. sure it was very much awkward but still funny ! you reassure bruce that it was fine, though you could have liked a warning.

and ... you can add a yandere twist on it, and i love yandere so ... . some of them (tim and cass and probably dick) could start developing yandere tendencies when they learn of your existence ( and keep 'tab on you' aka stalks you and learn everything they can about you ), the others (damian and jason + eventually steph and duke even though they are probably some of waaay lesser yandere-y yandere) could start becoming like that after they finally meet you in person. damian could be the one to take the most or less time to become attach on you, it depend, but he could go thru a big phase of 'i refuse for you to replace talia, my mother, therefor i will despite your entire existence' but if you try to get closer to him, this phase will end very soon and his barrier melt away, if you want to let him take his time to accept you, the result will be the same but damian will try to make up for the time he hated you.

and of course, yandere bruce could be so happy for you to like / get to know and get closer to his family, and that's one more way he can tie you to him !

I feel like Damian would sometimes threaten to tell Bruce about things his brothers do, not because he’ll actually do it but because it’s a form of power over his brothers who think he might actually do it. And it would go something like this.

Okay so what started as a crack idea actually makes more sense than it should

Danny gets adopted by the Brain and Monsieur Mallah

Now you may ask yourself: why would Danny get adopted by the brain of a French mad scientist and an intelligent French gorilla, both of who are founding members of the brotherhood of evil?

Well thank you for asking because

A) it’d be really funny

B) the Brain and Mallah are canonically a gay couple, have been a couple in the comics since 1990, as weird as it is they’re kind of cute together. Check this out

Like it’s oddly cute and I want to see more of them living in domestic bliss

C) Danny is already used to living with mad scientists for parents, this honestly wouldn’t be that big of an adjustment

D) I think they’re mostly retired and living out their days together currently?

E) Mallah could beat Vlad at chess and that would piss Vlad off

F) Danny has an affinity for gorillas and frankly it would be hilarious if every ape that sees Danny tries to adopt him
