It cuts you off after a certain point so I’m just going to silently cry for my lost ladies (I’ll probably rewrite them in again when I have time)
Hello, tumblr user. Before you is a tumblr post asking you to name a female fictional character. You have unlimited time to tag a female character, NOT a male one.
Begin.

There's something about Wen Ning kneeling to apologize for everything that went wrong, and Wei Wuxian kneeling down with him as if to say nothing is your fault that isn't also my fault. Either we'll stand together or we'll kneel together.
They are the secret third thing.

you know what'd be really fucking funny? gusu history lessons with the new generation (re: lan sizhui, lan jingyi, jin ling, ouyang zizhen)
jin ling asking jiang cheng about if yunmeng jiang truly was eradicated almost to extinction, lan jingyi asking lan xichen about the burning down of the library, but most importantly:
lan sizhui, approaching wei wuxian: wei-qianbei! i apologise for being so direct, but was there really someone who could melt spiritual cores? and, if someones core was melted, would restoration be possible?
wei wuxian, freezing up:
wen ning who was nearby, dropping the radishes he was carrying:

I don’t think Wen Ning told Jiang Cheng about the golden core because he wanted him to know he owed Wei Ying or any of the sort. Like a lot of people seem to think that and therefore conclude Wen Ning was out of line. But it’s more likely that he did it to give Jiang Cheng the wake up call he needed. Because he has lived for 13 years in denial of the truth in that Jiang Yan Li’s death was not Wei Yings fault and he himself had a hand in his brothers demise. It was meant to be a reminder to him of who Wei Ying actually is and the made up version he has in his head is a perception that has been warped by his anger and grief. It’s meant to be a reminder of how much Wei Ying loved him. Jiang Chengs anger is understandable but it doesn’t justify him treating Wei Ying the way he did and putting all the blame on him without ever trying to comprehend the choices his brother made and why he made them.

There's so many moments in MDZS that make my heart utterly clench and make me want to just burst into tears, either from deep sadness and despair, or from a profound sense of love...
- Wei Wuxian getting to see his beloved shijie in her wedding dress
- The beautiful gift he made for his sister's baby boy, only for it to then be so tragically destroyed
- How all he wanted was to go meet that little nephew of his; how he never even got to...
- Jiang-shushu's last goodbye to his sons
- Wen Qing's solemn "I'm sorry, and thank you."
- Everything that happened to Wen Ning. Just, everything.
- Lan Xichen's unconditional love and acceptance of every facet of his younger brother; the liquor, the rabbits, the lotus seed pods
- "What do you think about this one?" "Mine."
- Jiang Yanli's sacrifice for her dear A-Xian, loving and protecting him always, even till the end
- The silent desperation behind Lan Wangji's "Come back to Gusu with me" plea
- Xiao Xingchen's, Song Lan, and A-Qing's horrible deaths
- Granny Wen's corpse recognizing and reaching out for her grandson
- Wei Wuxian being demonized and scorned for taking the only cultivation path he could, while never saying a word to exonerate himself
- How he did literally everything in his life for others.
This story is heart-rendingly tragic and beautiful.

I think a lot of characters in mdzs are written to be foils of wei wuxian, you know, lan wangji, xue yang, jin guangyao, wen chao, jiang cheng, the list could keep going. BUT in contrast to these contrasts, wen ning is wei wuxian's parallel.
They're both a talented child who, under the prejudices of society, become corpses of themselves, yet despite it all are able to persist because of love and understanding. Of course, the corpse thing is more figurative in the case of wei wuxian if we look at him the moments before during and after nightless city. Where he is entirely the yiling patriarch society lauds him to be. Which is just a superficial inauthentic shell of who we know wei ying is. And then he actually dies, so boom, there's your corpse (except 404 corpse not found, my point still stands).
And idk, I think one of the best parts of mdzs is that any of the characters could be the main character. Any of these characters could be the main pov.
But overall, while wei wuxian's foils illuminate his bright sides, his parallels, like wen ning, just make his tragedies that much darker. It's like, wei wuxian, isn't just solely persecuted, this persecution of hope and brightness is an epidemic. And that's so fucked to recognize and so hot of mxtx's brain to deliver as a theme.

I love Wen Ning so much because Wei Wuxian could literally say any bullshit and WN would be like “absolutely, I agree 100%!” and Wen Qing would immediately debunk WWX’s bullshit and WN would be like “absolutely, I agree 100%!”
