I’ll don’t understand how MXTX can say Luo Binghe is the worst in bed when Lan Wangji is…the way he is.

Barring the Mai Gu Ridge scene (which doesn’t really count as Bingqiu’s first time imo), Binghe asks for consent, does a lot of foreplay, uses lube and repeatedly asks Shen Qingqiu if he feels good during the act. And yes, there’s room for improvement. But Binghe knows that and uses porn to learn how he can do better. SQQ even says Binghe is a fast learner.

And as much as I love him, Lan Wangji is sexually scary. No foreplay. No lube. No established consent. Wei Wuxian doesn’t even know how to have gay sex and LWJ doesn’t talk him through it their first time. WWX is confused and doesn’t understand what’s going in where, literally as it’s happening.

I’m not shading Wangxian as a ship. WWX has a rape kink that works perfectly with LWJ’s thing for dubcon. They’re both happy with their sex lives, so there’s no reason to take issue with it. But to say LBH is the worst in bed is objectively wrong.

[MDZS] Understanding in Context

Sooooo, I never thought I'd be here, but recently I started reading Montaigne and IDEK man.

The reason I decided to write this post is because I think when people read MDZS specifically in the English side of the fandom they often neglect to see the whole story in the context of ancient China. I'm not saying I'm an expert on this, so I would love to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I specifically wanted to discuss an action from Jiang Cheng.

As people know, one of the biggest betrayals he committed is not protecting Wen Qing's faction (not the word I'd use but yeah), while Wei Wuxian did. Well, I think this is often more multi-faceted than people think it is.

Think about it, the Wen family killed JC's entire sect and family, even if it wasn't WQ's branch. So no matter what, JC as one of the last surviving members and heir to the sect is morally obligated to kill them to avenge his family. Then, people often bring up the debt he should owe to Wen Ning for saving him, which is where it gets difficult and muddy. Because while *technically* he does have a debt to WN, at the same time, WN saved JC for WWX (I think so? Correct me if I'm wrong please) so WWX has more of a debt than JC? and WWX fulfilled it. Of course, JC should to an extent still owe them, but then that would directly contest the whole societal pressure/obligation for him to avenge his family.

Therefore, despite WQ's whole faction being innocent, it makes sense that JC would still choose to be hostile to them, from both personal, societal and cultural reasons (remember, he was also playing a political game the whole time that WWX wasn't).

The final argument I've seen is also that JC can easily make the whole sects spare WQ's faction by saying he owes WN a debt from saving him and ???? That is simply not true??? Just because WN saved JC DOES NOT mean that the rest of the sects should forgive them for the other atrocities that the Wen family committed in the war (ie. burning the Lan sect). All it would do is have the Jiang clan killed for good, and obviously JC CAN NOT have that happen.

Basically tldr, the situation is a lot more complicated than most people give it credit for and people need to acknowledge that.

How I think each MXTX protagonist would adapt to technology:

SQQ: we all know exactly how this man utilizes the internet. It got him killed and he is not the type to learn from his mistakes

Wei Wuxian: this man would go on a Wikipedia deep dive that surpasses the Mariana Trench in depth. Three weeks in he’s learning how to code his own ghost detecting app.

Xie Lian: It is easier to teach your grandmother how to order a pizza online than explain google to this man. He just looks so kindly confused the whole time. Secretly, he understands it perfectly and is just playing a funny joke on you. He enjoys watching sword videos and sending outdated memes to Hua Cheng.

As for the love interests:

LBH: He loves the recipes, and the ability to keep track of someone else’s phone at all times. However he will fry that laptop in an instant if he thinks his Shizun loves it more than spending time with him.

Lan Wangji: He uses it for three things in order of importance: cute rabbit pictures, guqin music he hasn’t heard, and porn

Hua Cheng: he would quickly become obsessed with taking the perfect selfie. Xie Lian finds the trash folder on his phone and falls in love with all the reject pictures. To his husband’s horror he makes a collage of them and sets them as his phone background.

🙃 There are some things Wei Wuxian would never say to his past self. That doesn't change the fact that they are things he needs to hear.

It's definitely not a one to one translation, and it's not that representative of the fic as a whole, but this was *heavily* inspired by a scene in yiqie's fic The flower that withers.
