i remember when mdzs first came out and i didn't know shit about the genre yet, so my friend and i found it in a bookstore and she went "grandmaster of demonic cultivation???? what is 'cultivation'. google says it's practicing agriculture. how can you do that demonically." and i was like "farming evilly and deviously......"

anyways this exchange became ten times funnier when i read mdzs years later and got to the part where everyone thinks wei wuxian is establishing a horrible evil demonic sect with the wen remnants but he's actually just trying to farm so they don't starve. doing some straight up evil and demonic and devious farming.

jiang cheng blaming wen ning for the fall of lotus pier and jin zixuan's death (something wen ning didn't want, consent to or had any agency in doing) vs wen ning yelling at jiang cheng for the golden core transfer (something jiang cheng didn't want, consent to or had any agency in doing) is peak actually. you take two sympathetic characters with insane amount of grief, trauma, guilt, blame and debt between them, and let them go ballistic on each other to avoid unpacking any of that. making each other worse just by appearing in the same sentence together. no political or social expectations getting in the way of their unbridled haterism either. lan wangji wishes he could join.

I really agree and i'm getting lowkey tired of people acting like LXC not only had every opportunity to find out that JGY was a bad person (like he ignored not only Mainmain but even ignored LWJ at least twice during the WWX/Wen remnants situation where the Jins (and therefore JGY) where very clearly in the wrong) but also like he didn't actively push together JGY and NMJ when it was clear the NMJ didn't want to be around JGY and that that directly lead to NMJ dead.
