Hi! You mentioned in a previous answer something about an overlap between hypersexuality and anorgasmia - could you expand a bit on that? Or add some links? It would explain a lot 😅

Well, part of this is less based on research and more based on experience but I know quite a lot of people with hypersexuality have struggled/struggle with anorgasmia.

Since hypersexuality can affect how you experience orgasms, I think it's possible that for some people, hypersexuality causes anorgasmia [especially since trauma and stress can cause anorgasmia and hypersexuality can be caused by and/or push people into traumatizing situations and cause anxiety...] but that's more theory than explicit fact.

Also a lot of disorders that can be commorbid [occur at the same time] and/or caused by hypersexuality can also cause and/or trigger anorgasmia. Like depression, high levels of anxiety, PTSD, etc. So that's another reason for the overlap! [This article on anorgasmia mentions some of the disorders I'm talking about.]

I haven't read many studies on anorgasmia and its overlaps with hypersexuality but both are fairly understudied, especially hypersexuality, so I think it's just a matter of time on that.

But if anyone has some links to specific research on the subject, I'd love to go through those. Also, yknow, Anon might want to see them!

You aren’t dirty or wrong if your response to trauma is hypersexuality.

We often talk about sex repulsion in response to trauma where it might make you feel your response is wrong if that isn’t what it is. But you’re equally as valid whether you’re sex-repulsed or hypersexual.

It’s also valid to be both or switch between.

I'm so afraid of loneliness, all the time I'm looking for people who pay attention to me, all the time I'm flirting with someone who could be a possible partner and if I don't I look for them until I find them. I always end up sexualizing myself, creating a personality and way of being so that men look at me and desire me, my emotional stability is based on that, on how much attention I receive, but it is so sad to realize too late that they only see me as a "hole", as something disposable, abandonable and usable. In the end either way I end up being alone, feeling empty, abandoned and depressed.
