Blaming @sincerely-nines for letting the demons out
Here is the minecraft food update ideas that have been plaguing me fo a very long time:
(Also I know most of what I am about to list off are in many minecraft mods, you don't have to tell me about them, I just wanna yap about things)
(Also also I mainly talked about food we could have with the already existing edible minecraft items)
-First of all WHY DON'T WE HAVE APPLE PIE IN MINECRAFT!!! WE HAVE PUMPKIN PIE SURE BUT WE DESERVE APPLE PIE TOO!! Oh and also golden/enchanted golden apple pie... cause I think it would be funny and I want it
-Continuing the pie train sweet berry pie, glow berry pie, shepherd's pie(we have enough meat options to make it), chicken pot pie and also just learned about this one, fish pie
-Speaking of fish, sushi. "Oh bUt FAndOm yOU neEd riCe AnD SeAwEEd To mAKe sUsHI" no you don't, there are many recipes of sushi without rice in them and you can use the dried kelp as a substitute to seawed
-But also yeah they should add rice too
-Squids, we should be able to eat the squids... both of them(and yes you would get the glow effect if you ate the glow squid)
-Getting back on the pie train for a second for the actual last pie for the list(unless I forgot any that could be made via the limited items we have in minecraft), chorus fruit pie, cause it's funny to think about
-Carrot cake, chocolate cake or even better brownies, sweet berry cake and glow berry cake
-Sugar cookies
-Cheese!!! Which they made cheese in one of the april fools updates, so they infact can code this in, but I want it in a specific way, it is the height of a half slab and it is eaten like a cake... and maybe also cream, butter, yogurt or frosting even, since the one cake we do have seems to already have something like that on the sprite on it... also I think it would be funny if you crafted a whole stick of butter and eat it infront of your friends
-Speaking of "april fools updates" sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes
-Chocolate, just regular chocolate
-Add on from the last point hot chocolate
-French toast, we have all the ingredients for this why can't we have it?!
-Maybe some egg dishes? Like fried eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs...
-Oh it just came to me, eggs benedict! Just replace the english muffin with regular bread, which probably make it count as a sandwich now that I think about it... they should also add sandwiches...
-Maybe also some more dishes with mushrooms? Even though I don't lkke mushrooms irl it's kinda weird to only have one food item with them in it
-I also wouldn't mind if they made more stews or soup
-Puddings! More specifically bread pudding and chocolate pudding
-Caramel
-A lot of trees are actually very safe to eat the bark and seeds of
-Sunflower seeds
-Also apparently if you boil it, you can eat bamboo as well and we have that in minecraft so we should eat it
-Many types of juices!! Some short examples would be carrot juice, melon juice, beetroot juice... etc.
-Kinda going off topic with this one, but I wanna gnaw on the bones we get from the skeletons, mojang let me eat the bones!!! You can make it so if you eat one it gives nausea cause it is actually unhealthy to eat bone as is and can make you seriously sick, but I wanna be a rabid fucking animal damn it and scare off the hoes. Side note here but you can also eat bonemeal and be okay to do so, so yeah that is also an option
Aaannd that's all of them for me, but if any of you have some ideas on what else to add do let me know, I probably missed alot of things

remember to eat yummy food that fuels u 💗
Tumblr media
SALADS -
carrot salad - carrots! carrots r an amazing source of vitamin A and isn't only beneficial for ur skin, but also ur eyesight, and ur immune system; for the recipe i'd wash a carrot and shave it, then add one cap of apple cider vinegar and olive oil, with salt and pepper and i'll eat that as a side dish along with my meal
cucumber salad - cucumbers r also an amazing source of hydration and is great for ur skin. just slice a couple cucumbers and add olive oil, salt, pepper, and chili flakes
meditteranean salad - dice cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, and make a vinaigrette using lemon, olive oil, and salt and pepper and add those all together with some basil for a hydrating delicious salad
SNACKS -
pan con tómate - its simply toasted bread with oil, grated tomatoes, garlic, salt and pepper
apple slices and peanut butter
frozen grapes with lime juice on top
literally any assortment of veggies with lime juice and salt
sliced fruit bowls with lemon juice
DINNERS -
how i make tofu - so i always use firm tofu and i'll dry it with a paper towel just to make sure that its dry (make sure to drain the excess water) and on a separate plate i'd add some flour, and seasonings of my choice. then coat the tofu in the flour and put it on a hot pan (approximately 5 min per side of tofu) or until its crispy, and then i'll make a sauce, usually with soy sauce, ginger and honey.
cucumber sushi - i'd wash and shave cucumbers, then take the shavings and lay them out as though it was wrapping paper (if that makes sense) then dry it with a paper towel so that the ingredients can stick onto it. then i'd fill it with sticky rice, sauces, tuna sometimes, or literally anything u wanna fill it with and then roll it up like u would do with sushi and cut it into pieces.
SANDWICHES -
sandwich one - take a hard boiled egg and break it down in a bowl, and add some mayo and mustard (trust) to create a paste like mixture. spread all that onto some bread. then add some lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.
BREAKFASTS -
overnight oats - in a container, add some oats, greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey, fruits of choice (i often use strawberries or blueberries) and almond milk and then shake that up and let it stay in the fridge overnight for an easy breakfast in the morning.
chia seed pudding - add three tablespoons of chia seeds into a container, half a cup of almond milk, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and some honey (add coco powder if u like chocolate) and then put that in the fridge overnight.

Notes: Fluffy Mackerel Pudding seems to be Fereldan as it's found in DA:O in this Codex entry at the Arl of Redcliffe's Estate in Denerim. Snail & Watercress Salad isn't traditional Avvar cuisine; though snails are standard Avvar fare, this salad which has them in conjunction with other ingredients is Devon's take on snails that they made for their Avvar hosts. The given Spiced Jerky recipe is Dalish, but the book notes that preserved foods like it play an important role in many different Thedosian cultures. Grey Warden Pastry Pockets are a variation on a tough Grey Warden pastry which incorporates the far more delicate Orlesian puff pastry, that was championed by newer Warden recruits from Orlais. Unidentified Meat is usually served with Nevarran Flat Bread. Black Lichen Bread doesn't explicitly say but is clearly dwarven, as it references "underground" versus the "surface" and the dwarf Garin in Orzammar mentions it in DA:O. Peasant Bread is both Dalish and City Elf. Merrill's Blood Soup could be Dalish in origin as it's a recipe of Merrill's. Devon's Lentil Soup recipe has classic Tevinter flavors in it. Roasted Turkey with Sides is found throughout the Free Marches. Sera's Yummy Corn could be Fereldan in origin as it's a recipe of Sera's. Poison Stings is likely Tevinter as Dorian is fond of it. Rice Pudding could be Antivan or Rivaini as in Thedas you don't see much rice outside of Antiva or Rivain, or perhaps Tevinter or Qunari as it was a dish made by Krem, Iron Bull and the Chargers. Found Cake could be Fereldan as it's based on Dog's Found Cake in DA:O. Sugar Cake was purchased from a surface dwarf merchant and is based on Sugar Cake from DA:O (Feraldan dish? Dwarven?). Lamprey Cake was Devon's pickled lamprey-inspired cake, with pickled lamprey itself being a "singular" (implied: odd) favorite of an Orlesian noble. The Hissing Drake, The Golden Nug and The Emerald Valley are drinks served at the Gilded Horn in Orlais. The Emerald Valley's place of origin isn't given in the book, but we know from this Codex that it includes a spirit that is Orlesian, having been made in Lydes. Going by Iron Bull's dialogue with Varric, hot chocolate/cocoa is not from the south and is rare there. Dragon Piss could be Fereldan as it's based on Dragon Piss which is found in Ferelden.
Alphabetical ingredients / 'foodstuffs and drinks which exist in Thedas' list (DA Cookbook-specific list)
Notes: These ingredients are derived from the dish names and the lore blurbs (which appear to be in-world), not the recipes and associated ingredients lists themselves (which appear to be our world/irl-based). Also, this is a sort of scrappy list with mixed singular/plurals, some repeating stuff (e.g. I know pork, bacon, pig and ham is all "pig"), some non-specific stuff e.g. "herbs", and some stuff that is more 'a combo food' than 'a single ingredient' e.g. "dough", but just go with it ok hh, it's just meant to be a quick 'n' dirty reference list as a resource not a perfect culinary thing:
“Bitter greens”, Ale, Almonds, Antivan pasta, Antivan wine, Apples, Apple blossoms, Apricots, Assorted “forest fruits”, Ayesleigh gulabi goat (a breed of goat from which some goat’s milk is derived), Bacon, Bark, Bark bread, Barley, Beetroot, Biscuits, Black cherries, Black lichen, Blended teas, Blood oranges, Brandy, Bread, Buns, Butter (halla and other types), Cabbage, Carrot, Cave beetles, Celery, Chasind Wildwine, Cheese, Cheese sauce, Cherries, Chicken, Chickpeas, Chocolate, Chocolate cream cake, Cinnamon, Cocoa, Cocoa powder, Corn (yellow and non-yellow varieties), Couscous, Cows, Crab, Cranberry, Cream, Croutons, Currants, Custard (many variations), Cuttlefish, Dark bread, Deep mushrooms (several varieties), Dough, Dracolisk? (in one ‘sus meat’ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this), Dried fruit, Dry cheese, Eggs, Egg-white foam (for drinks, due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Fereldan ale, Fereldan barley, Figs, Fish, Flat bread, Flour, Flowers (over 70 different types of herbs and flowers used for food & drink exist), Giant spiders, Giant? (in one ‘sus meat’ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this), Gnocchi, Goat’s milk, Goats, Grains, Grapes, Grease, Gurguts, Halla butter, Ham, Harts, Herbs (over 70 different herbs and flowers used for food & drink exist), Hirol’s Lava Burst (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Honey, Hot peppers, Jams & preserves, Jasmine flowers, Jerky, Lamb, Lamprey, Leeks, Lemon, Lemon juice, Lemon verbena, Lentils, Lichen (underground and surface varieties), Lichen ale, Licorice root, Llomerryn red, Llomerryn rum (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Lurkers, Mackerel, Mango, Marshmallow (presumably meaning both the marshmallow plant and marshmallows, the confectionary that was originally made from the marshmallow plant. The form given in the cookbook is Orlesian guimauves, which accompany Iron Bull’s hot chocolate. “Guimauve” is French for marshmallow), Mead, Milk, Mincemeat, Mint, Mushroom, Mussels, Mutton, Nettle, Noodles, Nug, Nug bacon, Nuggets (nug-gets), Nutmeg (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Nuts, Oats, Oil, Olives, Onion, Orange, Orange peel, Oregano, Pasta, Pastry, Peas, Peanut butter, Peanuts, Pepper (as in black pepper etc), Peppermint, Pickled things, Pickled vegetables, Pie, Pig, Plums, Pomegranate, Pork, Potatoes, Poussin, Prawns, Puff pastry, Pumpkin, Quillback (in one ‘sus meat’ recipe Devon wondered if it could be this, and in DA:I some NPCs mention it), Rabbit, Raisins, Rams, Raspberries, Red bell peppers, Red grapes, Rhubarb, Rice, Rolls, Royal elfroot (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Rum (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), Saffron, Salt, Semolina flour, Sheep, Shrimp, Smoked meats, Snails, Sour ale, Sour cherries, Spices, Spinach, Spirits (as in alcohol), Strawberries, Sugar, Tea, Toasted bread, Tomatoes, Truffles, Turkey, Turnip, Tzatziki sauce, Vine leaves, Waffles, Water, Watercress, West Hill brandy, Wheat, Whipped cream, Whiskey (due to the The Gilded Horn’s Drink List codex), White chocolate, White frosting, White Seleny wine, White wine, Wildflowers, Wine, Wraps (soft), Wyverns, Yogurt
'See also' / 'did you know':
Eggs à la Val Foret
Fried Young Giant Spiders: previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. The player party arrives at Chanra Thaig and sees "Bonfires built inside steel drums provide warm and heat for the dwarves huddled around them, cooking deepstalkers, what looks like the legs of giant spiders, and small rodent-like animals on spits". The dwarves have "fuel, water, and domesticated spiders and nugs in deeper chambers for food".
Fluffy Mackerel Pudding
Snail and Watercress Salad
Cave beetle previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. They're described as "scavengers and carrion eaters", "black" and "hard-shelled". They're also known as "rock beetles" and are "little more than a nuisance on its own. Dwarves are even known to roast and eat them out of the shells".
Pickled Eggs (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Seheron Fish Pockets: Iron Bull has dialogue where he says "I remember one guy, he made these things - fish wrapped in thin bread". He was talking of a street food vendor in Seheron who had been forced by Tevinter spies to poison his food. Fittingly, in the cookbook Devon narrates that they learned this recipe from a Charger.
Black Lichen Bread: Garin from DA:O had an incident a few years back where he cut himself and some raw lyrium dust got into his blood. Since then it's been hard for him to concentrate and he's forgetful. He mentions bread that's made by using lichen (I think he mentioned that his lunch was a slice of lichen bread). interestingly, like lyrium, the cookbook lore blurb for Black Lichen Bread contains reference to how black lichen is toxic.
Hearth Cakes (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Peasant Bread: appears in The Masked Empire. in the Dalish camp, Dalish cooks prepared a midday meal, which was served along with peasant bread. "It was almost equal parts wheat, salt, and grease, and in lean winters, it was sometimes the only thing that could put meat on a peasant's bones." Michel watches an old elven woman drizzle honey across a piece and remembers his City Elven mother putting a bit of sugar she had stolen from the tavern she worked in on his piece of bread. The cookbook lore blurb for Peasant Bread says it is eaten by Dalish elves and City elves alike in Orlais, with the recipe being "very straightforward, calling for wheat, salt, and grease in nearly equal parts". Also, in The Last Court, Seraultine (Orlesian) peasants are described as eating bread at mealtimes
The Hanged Man's Mystery Meat Stew: in a DAII loading screen, it says that the tavern's feature dish is a stew made from a different mystery meat every morning
Fish Chowder: in DA:O Zevran says "Can you smell that? Like rotting flesh. Just like back in Antiva City. Now if only you could find me a prostitute or two, a bowl of fish chowder and a corrupt politician, I'd really feel like I was home!"
Sweet and Sour Cabbage Soup (the cookbook lore blurb mentions the Orlesian troupe of actors from the show Wilkshire Downs. in this codex they are mentioned along with "cabbage stew")
King Alistair's Lamb and Pea Stew: Alistair and Leliana have this dialogue in DA:O about this dish (Ctrl-F "pea stew").
Antivan Gnocchi: In Tevinter Nights (Eight Little Talons), the Crow leaders eat gnocchi with dinner
Gurgut Roast with Lowlander Spices and Mushroom Sauce
Nug Pancakes, two
Fish in Salt Crust
Roasted Wyvern. Also Isabela has dialogue in Mark of the Assassin where she says "I hope I'm not expected to eat roast wyvern after this." The lore blurb in the cookbook for this dish also references this Codex
Starkhaven Fish and Egg Pie (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Cacio e Pepe: First mentioned in Tevinter Nights (The Wigmaker Job). Illario complains "This isn't Cacio e Pepe" while making a show of tapping his dagger against a plate of leftovers. Lucanis replies "You ordered an Antivan dish in Tevinter. What did you expect?", to which Illario quips "Something edible".
Turnip and Mutton Pie
Smoked Ham from the Anderfels: a servant in Mark of the Assassin offers Hawke and Tallis "smoked ham from the Anderfels. They say it tastes of despair". Tallis replies "Wait, does it really? How can ham taste of despair? Why would anyone eat it if it did?". The servant explains "That's what the importer said. They all talk like that" apparently. This dish is also mentioned in DA:I. After WEWH Dorian says "I hope you tried the ham they were serving, by the way. Tastes of despair. Fascinating". The cookbook lore blurb asserts that contrary to rumors and what the importers say, this ham does not, in fact, taste of despair. Also, see The Jade Ham (tumblr won't let me add it as a proper link: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/The_Jade_Ham), as the cookbook lore blurb references this item and its description
Roasted Turkey with Sides: Roast turkey previously made an appearance in the DA tabletop. Lady Sennova hosts a gala/party in Orlais, which players infiltrate/attend and at which food and drink is served. "The Game is about appearances as much as it is about outright treachery, so a dead rat discovered in the roast turkey could serve as a crueler twist of the knife than an actual twisting of the knife". The cookbook lore blurb references the comic Knight Errant, which involves Sebastian's birthday dinner party
Sera's Yummy Corn (from "The Whole Nug" in World of Thedas)
Dwarven Plum Jam: in DA:O a Diamond Quarter noble dwarf says something like "I will die without my favorite plum jam from the surface!" The cookbook lore blurb references the fact that in Orzammar, jam from the surface, especially jams made from plums, are in especially high demand and cost exorbitant prices
Rice Pudding: in DA:I Krem mentions a time when he, Iron Bull and the Chargers defended a village from fifty bandits. Afterwards the villagers paid them for their services in bags of rice. He says that they made rice pudding after that. The cookbook lore blurb references this story of Krem's
(new text block because the previous text block hit a character limit hh)
Antivan Apple Grenade: the cookbook lore blurb references Antivan Fire Grenades (two), which spread sticky fire. maybe it's my brain conjuring up sticky toffee/toffee apples, but I wanna say that this dish would not only be hot but also sticky :)
Found Cake
Varric's Favorite Cinnamon Rolls: in DAII Sandal says that Orana smells of cinnamon rolls, which was interesting to me as DAII is the game where Varric is introduced and his first (and greatest) batch of cinnamon roll friends, the Kirkwall Crew, are featured in
Croissants: Calix and Vaea eat something which arguably look like croissants in the comic Dragon Age: Deception, in an inn in Tevinter.
Cherry Cupcakes: the cookbook lore blurb says these are served by servants on stilts at the Tevinter theature. in the comic Dragon Age: Magekiller, Marius is depicted serving an array of treats and snacks to a Tevinter elite at the Tevinter theatre while on stilts. some of the cupcakes on his tray bear somewhat of a resemblance to the cupcakes in this recipe.
Sugar Cake
Pickled Lamprey: the cookbook lore blurb is referencing the book Last Flight, where Norbert de la Haine and his unfortunate fondness for pickled lampreys is mentioned.
Lichen Ale
The Hissing Drake. the cookbook lore blurb mentions the Gilded Horn
Hot Chocolate: Iron Bull discusses his penchant for this drink with Varric. "How do you guys live without this stuff?" he says. Varric replies "I don't see what the deal is, honestly, but different tastes..." / "Now I just need some hot milk and some of those Orlesian guimauves to put in it" / "Hey, what you do with this 'cocoa' is up to you. I don't need to hear about it"
Antivan Sip-Sip
Dragon Piss, two
Rivaini Tea Blend: In Masked Empire Celene drinks a Rivaini blend of tea containing cinnamon, ginger and cloves, sweetened with honey. the cookbook lore blurb references Celene drinking Rivaini Tea Blend throughout the day to combat headaches, but this tea blend consists of peppermint, lemon verbena, oregano and licorice root. Rivaini tea also crops up here.
The Golden Nug, two
The Emerald Valley
Chasind Sack Mead
Characters mentioned or alluded to in the cookbook
Devon (new character, writer and narrator of the book), Merrill, Alistair, Sera, Varric, Solas, Cassandra, Fenris, Cullen, Sten, Iron Bull, Bull's Chargers, Krem, Nan (possibly, if she is Devon's mother), Norah (possibly, as the waitress at The Hanged Man), Zevran, Morrigan, the Hero of Ferelden, the Inquisitor, Josephine, Paragon Varen, Leliana, Schmooples, the Hero of Ferelden's mabari, Sebastian, Cole, Vivienne, Dorian, Anders, Loghain, Bethany, Hawke, the Couslands, Bodahn Feddic (possibly, as the Sugar Cake item in DA:O is sold by him and Devon narrates that they purchased one from a surface dwarf merchant who said that the Hero of Ferelden purchased some for their companions), Norbert de la Haine, Isabela, Celene, Briala, Gaspard
"Cookbook canon" (notes about the particular worldstate/universe that Devon wrote the cookbook in)
The cookbook was written at some point after the appointment of Divine Victoria, placing it at at least one month after the DA:I base game concludes (at least one month after the defeat of Corypheus). The narrator, Devon, has met and spoken to at least some of the companions & related prominent NPCs, including Varric and Krem. Devon visited Haven.
The HoF was a Cousland. The HoF caught Schmooples for Leliana. Loghain survived DA:O and DA:I, as he's referred to in the present-tense at the time the cookbook is written. Alistair is King of Ferelden. The HoF may have been a lady who romanced Alistair (if you argue that the inclusion of Alistair's love letter to the Warden & the necklace from this merch item as a prop in the photo for Rivaini Couscous Salad as indicator. interesting that the photo where this item is prominently displayed is for the Couscous of all things. back in the day I remember folks calling Cousland "Couscous" hhh).
Hawke was a warrior or rogue and Carver died in the prologue. Hawke was probably Diplomatic. Hawke did not romance Sebastian (in the cookbook he is Prince, and Sebastian reclaims his title as Prince by DA:I unless romanced, in which case he's the Chantry advisor in Starkhaven).
The "worst of [Cullen's] lyrium withdrawals" are mentioned so it could be that the Inquisitor advised Cullen to stop taking lyrium. Cassandra Pentaghast is the Divine. Celene is the Empress of Orlais - possibly ruling "alone" or possibly in the Celene-Gaspard-Briala "work together option", going by "Given how messy Orlesian politics are wont to be, with chevalier cousins vying for the throne and elven handmaids turned both spymaster and lover".
Also, this might be just me and my assumptions or reading of it, but of the companion characters referenced in the book (see section above, Characters mentioned or alluded to in the cookbook), such as Cole, Sera, Merrill, Fenris etc, I feel like it's safe to assume that in this worldstate they were all recruited by the relevant PCs are alive and well (including the Chargers).
Merch items & similar that appear as props or edits in photos
Alistair romance bundle (necklace and letter in Rivaini Couscous Salad. the necklace appears again in Goat Custard. the box can be seen in The Golden Nug)
Grey Warden pendant that shows the griffon heraldry (not sure if this is from the Gear Store or somewhere like Etsy. Grey Warden Pastry Pockets). this reappears in Sugar Cake
Solas Jawbone Necklace (Pickled Eggs. hhhh. unlike in Eggs à la Val Foret the blurb here doesn't mention Solas, but he's repped here anyway by the necklace hanging in the background hh)
Cullen's Lucky Coin (The Hanged Man's Mystery Meat Stew, Stuffed Vine Leaves, Antivan Sip-Sip)
In Nug Pancakes this red Inquisition banner with the handprint is in the background (seems to be from game files/in-game props). the red Inquisition banner appears again in Chasind Sack Mead
In Nug Bacon and Egg Pie, there is a nug in the background, presumably looking on in horror as their spouse has been transformed into a pie
In Turnip and Mutton Pie is a necklace that looks like the one Varric wears
Templar Banner (Roasted Turkey with Sides)
Inquisitor's iconic helmet replica (Roasted Turkey with Sides. hhh, this reminds me of the ones that are props in the queue area for the Dragon Age-not Dragon Age-ride)
In the background of Dalish Forest Fruit Cobbler a nug is peeking out

Shoutout to the photo for Starkhaven Fish and Egg Pie. It looks a lot like the illustration in World of Thedas of this dish! you can see that they really took it into consideration when creating this dish/image.
I feel like you can also sense the inspiration in general vibe/feel in Dalish Forest Fruit Cobbler from Dalish Deep Forest Comfort in WoT.
The black and gold theme colors of the cover remind me of when DA:D branding was black and gold.

Misplaced
Content: over 1.7k words of you trying to find something of very important value. g/n reader, more on the fem side if you squint, so don't :)
Extras: Another story for @levi-supreme Happy birthday Levi event! This one is special because she gave me permission to do somewhat of a sequel to a story she did last year, Lost and Found. Go read that if you haven't because it is referenced at one point. Thank you Rei and I hope you love it!
-------------------------
You blink your eyes open and smile to yourself as you wake up for the day. You yawn and stretch and slowly sit up in bed. Today being Monday, it's a regular off day for you as your husband gets up for his job very early.
He always tries not to wake you so you can sleep in and usually succeeds in slipping out without making you stir. While you wouldn't mind getting up with him, you do appreciate your sleep.
Looking over at this empty side of the bed you see a note and smile. He's always leaving notes for you.
Morning my love, I hope you got some rest. I might be working late today. But I'll make up for it this weekend. Breakfast is in the fridge. Lots of cut up fruit and yogurt. And those biscuits you like. Don't worry much about chores. I'll help out tomorrow. Relax and I'll see you tonight. - Levi
You sigh happily and put it in your nightstand along with many others from him. Sometimes you like to go back and read them.
Putting on a robe you shuffle to the kitchen and pull out your breakfast. It's all set up so it's easy for you to make a parfait with the fruit and yogurt, and put jam on the biscuits. You make a cup of tea and sit on the porch reading your book while you eat.
It is in fact a lazy day as you don't bother with dishes but put them in the dish washer and draw yourself a bath filled with lavender as you pamper yourself a little bit.
After you're good and wrinkly and the bath water is no longer warm you drain the tub and dry off. Deciding to go be slightly productive you head to your room to get dressed.
You sit on the bed and check your phone that you purposely left on your nightstand so you wouldn't be distracted and see a message from Levi.
It makes you laugh out loud, the funny things he sends you when he's supposed to be in a group meeting.
"Having a good day at work?" You send him jokingly.
Almost right away you get a response asking you to come rescue him, making you smile.
You go back and fourth a few minutes before telling him to get back to work and he says he can't wait to see you.
With that you put your phone in your pocket and think for a moment. Something looks like it's missing from your nightstand but you can't figure out what.
You shrug and go about your day, getting your binder and looking through the fridge to see what you can make with the ingredients you have. You find you like to meal plan, it saves money and gets you making dishes you can eat for leftovers.
You have almost everything you need to make one of Levis favorite dishes and make a note to do a small grocery run if you can't get enough carrots from your garden.
Even though Levi told you not to, you dust a little bit so you don't have so much to do later in the week and pause to pick up a picture on a shelf.
It warms your heart, this picture of you and Levi. He has a real smile, one that's generally saved for special occasions, but for you, always. His friends said he's never been so happy since he's meet and married you.
You feel the need to send Levi a quick "I love you" message randomly, which he's gotten used to and doesn't question if anything is wrong anymore when he gets it, but instead sends you one back.
You head outside to the garden to check on the carrots and other vegetables and go to remove your wedding ring before digging in the dirt and let out a gasp.
"Where is it?" You ask out loud to no one as you stare at your naked hand with no ring.
You frown and go back into the house to retrace your steps.
Did you have it while dusting? You look around at all the spots to see if you took it off so as not to get it dirty, but it's not there.
You look around the kitchen, by the fridge and on the countertops, but nothing.
You go to the bathroom. Surely you took it off for your bath? But it's not on the counter or the floor or in the tub.
Your stomach drops as you think maybe it went down the drain but decide that's overreacting.
You go outside on the porch. and look in the chair, on the table, all around the area, but cannot find it.
You feel yourself getting overwhelmed. If you can't find it, that means you lost it. Your wedding ring!
Heading back inside you sulk back into the bedroom and look in the nightstand and in the bed and under the bed.
At night you usually take it off so you don't accidently scratch it but you can't remember seeing it there today.
You sit on the bed and put your head in your hands. You feel your phone buzz and gasp at seeing it's Levi calling.
You debate answering or not. You could always pretend you were taking a nap when he called. That's more than believable.
By the time you decide to answer it goes to voicemail and a moment later you get a text instead.
"Brat? Are you ignoring me?" Brat. The word he uses when he says you're misbehaving.
"No sweetheart. Just didn't get to my phone in time." You message back, and it's not a lie.
But even through text you're sure Levi knows everything.
"Coming home soon."
You stare wide eyed at the phone. He's supposed to be working late! So you can have more time to look!
You jump up and start tearing up the house. You must find it!
You had it yesterday, you're sure of it. It has to be here!
Things are moved on shelves and the couch is pushed out of place and kitchen chairs are spread out across the floor.
Clothing is pulled out of drawers and things are moved in the closet and you search all over the garage, and still nothing.
You walk back into the house and look at the mess you've made and sit on the living room floor and cry.
You don't even hear the door open and your husband come in.
"What happened?!" Levis shout makes you cry harder. "Did someone break in? Are you hurt?"
He drops everything and kneels on the floor and hugs you as you shake your head.
"You're not hurt? No one broke in?" He holds your cheeks and tears fall onto his hands.
Would it just be easier to tell him that someone stole your wedding ring?
"N-n-no!" You sob as you tell him that no, this is all your fault.
"Love what happened?" He speaks to you gently and it hurts to have to say this.
"My wedding ring went down the drain!" You fling your arms around him and cry more, getting his shirt wet.
Levi rubs your back and smiles to himself, letting out a chuckle.
You push off of him and stare wide eyed.
He's so angry he's laughing? That's not a good sign!
Levi kisses your forehead and helps you stand and gets a tissue to dry your eyes.
"Stop your crying. It didn't go down the drain." He smiles at the silly thought.
"Well then where is it?!" Your voice is loud and squeaky but Levi knows you're just upset.
Levi digs in his pocket and pulls out a box and opens it.
"My ring!" You gasp as there it is, safe and sound.
"I left early today to have it cleaned, it's all nice and shiny now." Levi tells you as he holds it up. And yes, it's very shiny.
You frown and your lip quivers and Levi laughs again.
"I'm sorry love, I took it this morning. I thought you wouldn't notice. Sometimes when you lounge around the house you leave it on the nightstand, so I was hoping you'd rest up and not even realize." Levi tells you what the plan had been.
"You were trying to get me back, for last year." Your brain tells you that's wrong as you say the words anyway.
Levi sighs and looks at you like he's disappointed. "I most certainly am not." He takes your hand and puts the ring on.
"There, right where it belongs." Levi kisses your hand as you look down at it.
You close your eyes and sigh. "I'm sorry." You've finally come to your senses.
"It's okay. I should've just told you." He rubs his fingers along your palm.
You lean in to kiss him and he returns it gently.
You rest your head on his chest and hold out your hand. "It's very shiny."
You both laugh softly and share a sweet kiss, holding each other for a moment.
"Oh man…" Levi looks around the house and you're ready to cry again.
It's been turned upside down in your attempt to find something that wasn't missing.
"I'll help put it back together." Levi tells you, as this is somehow partly on him.
"I moved everything, even the bed. I'm sorry." You pout, rubbing your temple.
"We don't need to do it all tonight. Let's at least go put the bed back." He takes your hand.
You get to your room and can't even look at Levi as he sees the mess.
"I can't believe you made all this mess while I was working." Levi jokes as you huff.
"I really thought it was gone!" You cross your arms as he goes to push the bed back into place.
"I don't suppose dinner is ready?" Levi continues to joke, making you groan.
"You're never going to let me live this down." In ten years, maybe you'll laugh, but not now.
You clean up a little more, saving most for tomorrow, and make a quick dinner together before heading to bed, putting your ring in your usual safe spot.
Tomorrow you'll make Levi that dinner you had tried to plan earlier.
"At least I know you'll tear the house apart trying to find it." Levi pokes a little more and you roll your eyes.
As you slip into bed together you cuddle up close. "Of course, I love you."
He kisses your forehead. "And I love you."
You close your eyes and a moment later hear him chuckle.
"Down the drain?" Levi grins.
"Levi!"

Recipe #1
• Comforting Chicken and Rice Recipe
If you're looking for a soul-soothing meal, this chicken and rice dish is perfect. It's my go-to comfort food, packed with aromatic spices and rich flavors. Plus, you can easily customize it by adding vegetables of your choice!
Ingredients :
- Oil/Ghee (your preference)
- Whole spices: 2 Black cardamoms, 3 Green cardamoms, 1 Bay leaf, 1 tsp Cumin seeds, 1 Star anise, 1 Cinnamon stick
- 1 large Onion (thinly sliced)
- 2 medium Tomatoes (chopped)
- 4-5 Garlic cloves
- 1-inch piece of Ginger
- 3-4 Green chilies (adjust to your spice level)
- Fresh Coriander leaves (a handful)
- ½ cup Yoghurt
- 500g Chicken (bone-in or boneless)
- Salt and Black pepper to taste
- 2 cups Rice (washed)
- Water (as needed, usually double the amount of rice)
- Optional: Vegetables like potatoes, carrots, green peas, lemon.
Instructions :
1. Prep the Spice Paste: In a blender, add garlic, ginger, green chilies, and fresh coriander leaves. Blend into a smooth paste and set aside.
2. Sauté the Whole Spices: Heat oil or ghee in a deep pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cardamoms (black and green), cinnamon stick, and star anise. Sauté for about 20 seconds until fragrant.
3. Caramelize the Onions: Add the thinly sliced onions to the pot. Stir occasionally and cook until they turn golden brown. This adds a deep, rich flavor to the dish.
4. Cook the Spice Paste: Add the garlic-ginger-chili-coriander mixture to the onions. Cook for about 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
5. Tomato & Yogurt Base: Stir in the chopped tomatoes and yogurt. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Cook until the tomatoes break down and the oil separates, creating a rich, flavorful base.
6. Add the Chicken: Toss in the chicken pieces, stirring to coat them evenly in the spice mixture. Cook for 7-8 minutes until the chicken starts to brown.
7. Combine with Rice: Add the soaked rice and pour in the water (about 4 cups for 2 cups of rice, but adjust based on your rice type). You can add your optional vegetables at this stage.
8. Simmer: Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Cover the pot and cook on low to medium heat until the rice is fluffy and the chicken is tender.
9. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot. Pair it with raita or salad for a complete meal.
# Tips for a Perfect Chicken & Rice Dish:
- If using bone-in chicken, increase the cooking time slightly for deeper flavors.
- Add a squeeze of lemon before serving for a fresh, zesty kick.
- For extra richness, fry the chicken and potatoes (if you're adding potatoes) separately before adding it to the pot.
- Make some yoghurt salad as a side dish.
This meal not only fills your kitchen with warmth but also brings a sense of comfort to your table. Give it a try, and feel free to experiment with vegetables or spice levels to make it your own!

What's your favorite food you ate with your Muslim neighbors?
I'm genuinely curious
I CANT PICK OMGGGG THATS UNFAIR😭😭😭 But heres my top favs:
Literally any spinach dish she makes: palak paneer (spinach and cottage cheese), palak gosht (spinach and meat), aloo palak (potatoes and spinach). She ALWAYS keeps a batch of spinach frozen at home so that she can make it for me like 3 times a month.
Omg omg I love rice dishes but the way she makes pulao (or pilaf, basically rice made in mutton/lamb/meat stock with meats AND sometimes with cashews and raisins and carrots AND EVERYTHING GOOD)
When I was young, she'd make me these shaami kebab sandwiches while I'd play with her sons, aka my bffs and also my brothers. These sandwiches are just like- a core childhood memory.
AND ON SUNDAYS, they always make halwa puri (just Google it) and its so good with potato and chickpea curries😭😭😭😭
For healthy sweets, the uncle would give me this homemade Greek yogurt with sugar mixed in it, and yall it hit the spot everytime😭😭
Yall gonna judge me for this but idc, but any dish she makes that has bone marrow in it- immeadiate winner. But dw, I don't suck the bone until the marrow hits the back of my throat- no, no. They have special utensils just to retrieve that marrow.
Okay but the neighbours sons were so mean to little ole me😭😭 they'd make me do those gol gappa competitions until my stomach was literally cramping but omg was the pain worth it? YES, THE ABSOLUTE BURST OF FLAVOURSSS
Another core childhood memory of mine is me sitting in their kitchen, watching the aunty make food while she gave me a bowl of lentils and rice, a little pickle on the side. She's rolling out the rotis, I'm sitting beside her and watching her sons play wrestle mania in the lounge and she didn't allow me to wrestle with them because she doesn't want me to get hurt🥺🥺🥺🥺
If I ever win any awards in my life, my neighbours for sure would be mentioned in my speech AND also be invited to come with me to the red carpet. They've given me so many precious memories and good lessons, idk how I'll live without them ever🥺🥺🥺

The WoF (er, my au’s) Rulers’ favourite dishes
Ft. Some idiot (*cough* me) who doesn’t know anything about alcohol trying their best to make it sound like they do- also tryna make the dishes actually sound okay, but as a human even tho I cook I have no clue what a dragon would like lmao
Hoarfrost
Food: Salt cured seal w/ juniper and seasalt sauce! With fresh herbs and a berry garnish.
Beverage: A slow brewed dark juniper and herb ale, generally served on ice with a cup w/ a salted rim. Sorta a richer twist of a low class beverage he drank before becoming king.
Hyacinth
Food: Slow smoked salted boar roast, with a side of wild rice and roasted root vegetables.
Beverage: (Mudwings have ridiculously high alcohol tolerance- and tend to just drink it because they enjoy the taste) A dark mead made from fermented honey and wildflowers, with herbs! Warm and smoky in flavour.
Lightbringer
Food: Thick noodles with a venison bone and mushroom broth, and small slices of starfruit and braised venison.
Beverage: Oraclefruit (might change the name- glowing fruit found deep within the caves in the nightwing kingdom) juice with leafy greens, chia seeds, and a hint of mint! Served chilled.
Heliconia
Food: Tropical fruits and edible flowers, on a coconut rice seasoned with a hint of cinnamon.
Beverage: Mango, passionfruit, guava, and coconut milk (and yogurt ofc) lassi- with some cinnamon and cardamom, and topped with colourful decorative flowers!
Sidewinder
Food: Crispy grilled scorpion (their are big ones in the Sandwing kingdom-)- with a sweet pepper sauce made with herbs, honey, and roasted peppers.
Beverage: Cactus juice with a hint of lemon juice, and a few mint leaves. Served chilled. A common supplement for water in the Sandwing Kingdom, due to it’s scarcity.
Arowana
Food: Sea urchin meat and beluga caviar, with a broth made from sea plants of some sort (idk). And a touch of citrus juice!
Beverage: Starfruit juice in mineral sparkling water- with some extract from some glowing deep-sea seaweed which makes it glow in the dark. Served chilled.
Ptarmigan
Food: Crispy slow roasted duck seasoned with dried herbs- and with a side of roasted carrots, parsnips, and sweet potatoes!
Beverage: Heavily caffeinated herbal tea, served warm.

Rae what do you normally buy in a grocery run? I am single for the first time in my adulthood and I cook but my ex would decide the groceries.I know if I want to make lasagna I need to buy sauce and whatnot all that but what do you buy to have on hand for times you don’t want to plan?
so first of all, i was in your shoes a year ago and it took me a LONG time to start cooking again. take it slow! buy prepackaged when you can, if that makes it likelier for you to eat healthy. i used to cook pretty much all my meals and... then i broke up with my ex and got sick and fell into a depression and just recently clawed out of it. so now i supplement a lot with bagged salad because otherwise i won't eat vegetables fjadskl.
here is my guide! i copy/pasted this from my last couple of grocery runs. this is what i do to get me through like 2-3 weeks and it includes staples:
ingredients you need for whatever you plan to cook that week
1 type of vegetable you like (i always go for broccoli because it's nutritious and easy to cook in lots of dishes like pasta, or a side, etc.)
1 type of frozen protein (i usually go for pre-marinated salmon and edamame)
some canned beans
some canned tuna
canned tomatoes
pasta sauce or tomato paste
bread
some fruit you like/can eat raw (apples, melons, berries)
1 produce that will keep for a while (potatoes, apples, carrots, squash, etc.)
some bagged, prewashed salad (good as a meal with some protein or a side)
if you don't like bagged salad: some greens + yummy salad toppings + yummy salad dressing (splurge on the good stuff here if that makes you likelier to eat it)... spinach and kale are good options because you can eat them raw or easily add the to almost any recipe
pasta, rice, or quinoa
greek yogurt or cottage cheese
for snacks:
hummus
cheese sticks
pepperonis or prosciutto or beef jerky
crackers
fun chip (like potato chips, doritos, whatever)
cookies
whatever individual-portioned dessert you want: pudding cups, a little ice cream sandwich, w/e!
and for some meal ideas:
bagged salad + package of tuna (i like caesar salad or dill salad)
spaghetti with ground turkey
microwaved sweet potato topped with cottage cheese or greek yogurt, butter, lots of seasonings
picadillo (ground meat + diced potato w/ canned tomatoes and spanish rice)
mac n cheese from a box + broccoli florets mixed in while the pasta boils
snack plate! cheese, pepperoni, crackers, cottage cheese, berries, and carrots with hummus
cottage cheese on toast topped with evoo and seasonings

Niccolo makes Sasha a romantic Valentines dinner date.
its been a while since i wrote smth so food centric so thanks for this :)
dinner for two
nicosasha. modern au. 1329 words.
Nicolo smiles as he observes his girlfriend take in the entire restaurant, her eyes wide with awe. She had gushed about this restaurant ever since seeing its review in the Michelin guide, ecstatic that such a highly regarded restaurant was located so close to them. Unfortunately, its newly renowned popularity meant that everyone else was clamoring for a reservation and people had to wait months to reserve seats. Sasha had managed to get on the waitlist for the restaurant after five attempts to make a reservation for this year, but nobody ever cancelled their reservation last minute. Luckily, Nicolo had managed to snag them a reservation for Valentine’s Day even though so many other couples were fighting for a booking on the same busy date.
“How did you manage to get us a reservation?” Sasha asks, still looking around at the immaculate interior design of the restaurant. It’s all lush carpeting, fancy tablecloths, and warm lighting with everyone dressed formally. It’s different from the casual, cozy diners they typically frequent when they do dine out.
“I mentioned to a friend of a friend that I was interested. He said he could squeeze me in,” Nicolo says, hiding a smile with the wine glass that he brings to his lips. The Grenache has a stronger flavor than a typical red wine, strong and sweet like fresh berries with a hint of acidity. “It pays to have connections in the culinary world.”
“It sure does.” Even though Sasha is dressed formally — brown hair pulled into a sleek ponytail that falls into beautiful curls at the end, a beautiful dress of deep green that falls just off her shoulders, and the modest choker that sparkles around her neck — her wide-eyed expression is just like a child as she watches a waiter present them with the appetizer. “Oh, this is beautiful!”
The appetizer is a gorgeously plate of seared octopus artfully placed amongst crisp kale and confit potatoes. Underneath is a small drizzle of herbed labneh, a creamy cheese a little thicker and tangier than yogurt. Normally, Nicolo would take the time to savor every single bite but he finds himself unable to tear his eyes away from his girlfriend as she takes her first bite, her eyes widening even more at the flavors of their first dish.
“Do you like it?” Nicolo asks, although he already knows the answer from Sasha’s expression alone.
“I love it,” Sasha says and immediately takes another bite. She doesn’t bother to keep herself composed despite the more formal environment. She acts as she always does whenever she eats food that she finds delicious: by closing her eyes as she savors the bite, shoulders wiggling as she lets out the smallest squeal of delight.
They’re served a vibrant salad comprised of beets, citrus, and chopped chicory. Whipped feta cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds are tossed alongside the ruby red beets and tangerine slices. The entire salad has been drizzled with a slightly sweet, slightly tart champagne vinaigrette. Sasha marvels at the presentation before absolutely demolishing the salad, leaving the entire plate clean before it’s swept away by the waiter and replaced by their next dish.
Their next course is a fragrant rice pilaf topped with toasted almonds, pistachios, and golden raisins. The rice pilaf is served with a side of pickled vegetables: cauliflower, carrots, and peppers. Nicolo notices that Sasha isn’t very descriptive when he asks her how the food is. She simply tells him that the food is delicious before shoveling more food in her mouth. Usually when she eats his food, she tells him every last detail of what she enjoys, but it seems like she likes this food so much that she can’t even take the time to explain why. It does make Nicolo feel a little jealous, but it makes him happy to see his girlfriend enjoying the food so much even if he wasn’t the one to cook it for her.
After the rice pilaf comes a cabbage soup cooked with fire-roasted tomatoes and potatoes. Crushed red peppers give the soup a bit of heat while sherry vinegar adds acidity. The soup is topped with a sprinkle of cilantro, and Sasha takes a moment to marvel at the presentation of the colorful soup before devouring it almost as quickly as the other dishes.
The main course is a tender short rib braised with dates to give it sweetness. It’s topped with a small cucumber salad, diced tomatoes, and serrano peppers. The chef has drizzled the fine dish with a beautiful pomegranate molasses that brings out the deep, savory flavors of the short rib.
They finish off the night with a chocolate date cake garnished with edible pansies. On the side is a creamy, coconut ice cream drizzled with rum sauce. The bitterness of the chocolate goes well with the sweet rum sauce and coconut ice cream. Despite the pansies being just a garnish, their fragrance enhances the chocolate notes of the dessert. Sasha eats the dessert happily, humming as she gets every last crumb and bit of sauce.
Nicolo pays the cheque, adds a hefty tip, and sends their waiter off with a grateful message to the chef for the wonderful meal tonight. As he and Sasha exit the restaurant and make their way to their car, he drapes his blazer over her shoulders to help shield her from the cold night air.
“I’m glad you enjoyed the food so much,” Nicolo says. His arm hangs around her shoulders, pulling her in close as their steps fall in sync. He tries not to sound jealous as he remarks, “You seemed so delighted by the food that you didn’t even talk in between.”
To his surprise, Sasha doesn’t reply. She just hums in response. When he looks down, he sees her cheeks are flushed and she casts her eyes down towards the sidewalk like she’s embarrassed. For a moment, Nicolo is horrified. Could it be that he had misinterpreted her silence? It wasn’t that she was too delighted by the food that it rendered he speechless. Maybe it had been that the food was so lacking that she couldn’t find any words to compliment the dishes at all.
“Did you hate it? Oh god, did you hate it, Sasha?” Nicolo asks. All this time he had thought she was enjoying herself, but she had simply been feigning delight out of politeness. “Should I have taken you somewhere else? God, I ruined everything and on Valentine’s Day, too.”
Sasha looks up in alarm and begins to wave her hands. “No, no. It’s not that, the food was amazing it’s just that ... well, I really just prefer your food the most. You cook for us all the time, though. Being able to eat with you somewhere else is fun and it also gives you a chance to rest,” Sasha says. She speaks quickly to clear up the misunderstanding, her eyes flitting between Nicolo’s face and the ground.
Nicolo stops suddenly and Sasha turns around in surprise. He’s grinning from ear to ear and his arm drops from his girlfriend’s shoulders. He takes her by the shoulders, pulling her into press a kiss against her unsuspecting mouth.
“Wh-what was that for?” Sasha laughs.
“Truth be told, I was a bit jealous seeing you enjoy food from someone who wasn’t me, so hearing that you prefer my cooking makes me feel so ... happy,” Nicolo breathes as he pulls Sasha in for an embrace. “Let’s go home and I’ll cook you everything you want.”
“Really?” Sasha asks in surprise, wiggling in his arms delightedly. She pulls away a little to look at his face and make sure he isn’t joking. “We just ate dinner, though.”
“So you don’t want to me to make you food?” Nicolo teases.
“No, no! I’ll eat everything you make me and I won’t leave a single crumb!” Sasha says excitedly, already tugging her boyfriend behind her as she leads him towards the car.
