Shout out to the regressors who don't like to share. Who hide their favorite toys when others come over. Who don't like playdates and prefer to play by themselves. Who grew up being forced to let others play with their things. Your stuff & time is yours, you don't need to give it to others if you don't want to.

Non regressors cannot wrap their heads around regression without context. Whether you give them context is a personal choice, but saying it’s a trauma response should be enough.

I will openly admit that I suffered from parental abuse and neglect. It’s why being little and having a caregiver take care of me heals me so much. It’s why most of the time I don’t even know I’ve regressed all I know is I’m afraid. I immediately need reassured because when I was actually that age things were scary. I don’t give out intimate details but I do give context.

“I was abused by my parents so now as a trauma response I regress involuntarily.”

I’m not ashamed of my coping mechanisms (at least online) and I’m not ashamed to admit why I have them. What my parents did to me was horrible, the shame should be theirs to carry. I regress to feel safer, to feel cared for. It’s something I kept secret or wasn’t aware of for years until I got engaged. My fiance supports me and my regression. They are the first person I ever told about it and as I’ve come to understand myself more I’ve wanted to lay my journey out to help others.

There is at least one person out there who went through something similar to what you did. Someone who will read a blanket statement of “I was abused and now I regress” and relate to it. You don’t need to share at all but personally I’m a sharer. I share because I kept quiet on the abuse for so long I didn’t get out until I was 22! So now that I’m away from the abuse and my abusers I will freely admit it was awful. I won’t tell everyone exactly why it was awful but I won’t try to sugarcoat my life for social media.

sometimes I see criticism towards online agere communities mostly boil down to “why don’t they discuss the negative or traumatizing parts of age regression and only the positive parts ?” and my response is…why would I do that?

seriously why would I share very sensitive, personal information about myself, my mental health and my trauma on a social media website? be so fr rn. it would add 0 benefit to my life and mental health and just leave me vulnerable to predators and bad people.

you know who I do talk to about those things with? my therapist. my psychiatrist. ykno, the people who I pay to listen to me talk to about my mental health problems.

I think people have gotten used to others constantly oversharing about their mental health issues that when others don’t do it, it makes them uncomfortable. idk that’s just a personal theory but I can’t think of another reason why someone would want a community full of trauma survivors and those struggling with mental health issues to share intimate and personal details abt their struggles for funsies
