i wonder if cassandra started like seriously reading his books before or after interrogating him. both are funny bc either

a) she was internally exploding from excitement (ignoring the pressing matters) because her favorite author was personally telling her a story

or

b) (the funnier option imo) she interrogated the man and just went “damn this guy sure knows how to tell a story” and then proceeded to read through all of the books he had out in like a month

my favorite thing about the "justice does not approve of my obsession with you" line is that you just KNOW varric made that up. like.

1: he's telling cassandra, at knifepoint, about a private moment between hawke and anders that unless he was hiding under the bed he most definitely was not there for 2: justice is canonly kind of obsessed with the concept of love. he is in love with the idea of romance. he literally in awakening tells you how fascinating he finds it and how he kinda of wants to experience it for himself. he asks you to help him talk to aura bc he was entranced by kristoff's memories of their relationship.

world-renowned romance author varric tethras found his target audience (or rather, she found him) and absolutely rolled with it.

allying with the mages in dai and bringing cassandra with you is fascinating because in redcliffe she will tell you “we’ll talk about this later” in the most “mother has learnt that her child has been kicked out of some extracurricular and will murder the child when they get home” tone of voice. but then she actually defends your decision to cullen and tells you she supports you and is proud of this achievement and she offers this information even without you prompting it as soon as she recognizes you may have misread her. i just love her so much

I think it's funny that when Cassandra gathers ppl to save the world you get the (mostly) het Inquisition. But when Varric gathers people it's always a wild pack of deranged fruits, AKA the DA2 crew minus Sebastian (the dlc straight) and the Veilguard minus Solas (status pending)
