Carrots pickled with a regular pickling brine, schezuan peppercorns, and black peppercorns go so hard. Also really interesting that the black peppercorns absorb the pickling liquid and become soft and much milder while taking on all the other flavors too.
#text#cooking with scarves#quick pickles are great#1:1 water vinegar#uh some amount of salt and usually sugar#then any spices#and just submerge whatever you're pickling and then stick it in the fridge#idk how long it lasts#should be a long time due to the acidity of the mixture#but this is not intended for long term storage prep#but they get eaten fast anyways#so kind of a moot point usually

Hi.
PSA.
If you use a humidifier and your building/house/locale has hard water (a large amount of dissolved calcium in the water),
DO. NOT. USE. IT. IN. YOUR. HUMIDIFIER.
Follow the best practices for the machine or look up what is best.
Signed,
- the poor sap who just spent hours cleaning calcium deposits from their old roommate's walls
#it's not that bad or hard to clean (1:1 vinegar-to-water mix in a spray bottle and a cloth) but it will be on Every. Wall.#and it is tedious tiring work that can easily be avoided#thank you for reading and I hope this saves someone a lot of trouble in the future#alienwords

Just tried normal hair conditioner again after a week of using cider vinegar, and idk guys, I honestly think I'm going to stick with the cider vinegar.
#admittedly the smell lingers in my hair a little bit no matter how well i rinse it but i CANNOT argue with the results#it makes my hair so fucking silky and honestly even easier to brush than regular conditioner?#turns out there's a reason women used vinegar and/or lemon juice rinses after washing their hair back before modern shampoos and whatnot#(i guess the chemistry behind it is that the acid closes the hair follicles)#anyway yeah i don't use it straight but dilute it with water (about 1:3 parts vinegar to water)#and then use it after shampoo like you would any conditioner; let it sit for a couple minutes and then thoroughly rinse#like 1-2 tablespoons is all you need#i can't promise it'll work for EVERYONE obvs but for my super straight hair it's been great#(also in other news i'm going out of town for a few days so if i don't respond to something that's why!)#personal

I made larb and a cucumber salad for dinner and it came out amazing but all the chopping took so fucking long that my entire body is aching.
#it was my first time making my mom's favorite cucumber salad#which is less a salad and more cucumbers and onions marinating in sugar salt and vinegar soup#but it came out damn good so i'm happy#btw 1/2 c sugar dissolved in 1/2 c water with 1/4 cup white or rice vinegar#and however much salt and chili flakes etc you want#with two thinly sliced cucumbers and diced onion (i do half an onion bc i hate onions)#and a bit of cilantro#let it marinate for half an hour or so#and it's a really great side for a summer meal#great for picnics or barbecues just bring it in a secure container with a slotted spoon#hush and shush

hey! buddy! you can wait to put them away :) just be sure to run it in the dryer when ur ready, but it only needs like 20 mins to remove wrinkles.
pros of putting laundry away immediately after it is dry
less wrinkles
yayyyy organization
it is done
cons
right now you have to do it. Right fucking now. nightmare world hell on earth torture realm pain and suffering and carnage
#oh also you only need 2 tbsp of laundry detergent in ur washer#water alone cleans ur clothes 50% of the way#i personally use borax and baking soda (1/8th cup each) and it works great!#after the washer is done i add 1/4cup of odoban and run a second rinse to make the clothes smell good#oh also put vinegar in the fabric softener spot#it gets rid of the soap from your clothes so that they feel softer

in other coming back from spring break news i made macaroni before leaving and in a truly tragic state of affairs i forgot to put the drain cover on before straining the noodles and a noodle got caught sort of under the drain where i couldn't see it and grew a PRODIGIOUS amount of mold for one (1) single noodle in the week i was gone. Very fun to clean
#no vinegar or pure bleach so i ran a bit of cleaning solution down the drain and then hot water#after manually removing like a solid 1/2-1 inch of mold (ew.)#no visible mold left in the exterior drain or what i can see with a flashlight and hopefully the bleach killed whatever i can't see#i'll buy some vinegar next week to be safe but it should be fine 👍 but mold grows scary quickly here#any damp space WILL grow mold in like a week tops. need to run dehumidifer more often too i just forget#will also run some baking soda down it if i can find it#guys i promise i do NOT live in filth you just only here about my occasional Mold Incident and not the rest of my mold free life

Looking up recipes for vinegar based cleaning solution is a wild ride, because it's like
"Mix white vinegar with water 1:1", then you check and white vinegar has 5% acidity.
"If you need an extra kick, use cleaning vinegar", so you look up cleaning vinegar and it has a whooping 6% acidity.
And then you look into your kitchen cupboard at your regular ass vinegar with 10% acidity.
So like, do I mix it 1:1 with water, or do I need to reach 2.5-3% acidity?
#hag talks#then I realized that maybe I should look up recipes in my language#and they too say just vinegar with water 1:1#when right at the top they say vinegar can have 5-10%#by the way I've never seen below 10%#so I still do not know what solution I actually need XD

How To: Boost Your Metabolism :D
(as someone who lost 25 lbs in 2.5 months)
1. B6 & B12 boosts metabolism (you can take B6 without food, but B12 absorbs better with food) - These vitamins give you more energy and improve nerve health :D
2. Coffee/Energy Drinks/Caffeine Pills (duh) - Anything with caffeine will keep you alert, focused, and lose those pounds! Be aware of those high sugar/cal monsters or those fatty coffee drinks.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar - I find it helps with burning food/ making me less hungry. You can get these in pill form or dilute it
4. Warm lemon water/Teas - Very low cals, better water intake, debloats you. Again be careful of the sugar contents
5. Exercise like pilates, running/walking, weights, yoga, etc. - Easy way to gain muscle/lose fat- Basically resistance training
7. Fasting - Boosts your metabolism and overall health
8. Proteins!! Protein + gaining muscle will increase metabolism. As you st⭐️rve, still keep eating those proteins!!
9. Sleep!! Getting less than 6 hours of sleep will decrease your metabolism
Let me know if I should add anything :)

Binging - How to Avoid It
In my experience, the key to avoiding binging is learning how to control my cravings. Now when I see a pack of chocolate covered biscuits I just look at it and go "meh" or at most even have 1 piece of it with milk *after* lunch and won't even feel like binging because I feel satiated (satiated ≠ full)
Cravings - What Causes Them?
A sugar crash is the sudden drop in energy levels after consuming a large amount of carbohydrates, such as pasta, pizza and desserts ↬ This is what causes your cravings and may lead to another binge, especially after a period of restriction
What I have done:
1) Get rid of the triggers. Get rid of sugary food, sodas, chocolates, sweets, etc whatever is the thing that triggers a binge. Out of sight, out of mind. If you can't because someone else is buying those things, stay away from them.
2) Up your fibre and protein intake. Fibre is wonderful, because it "clothes" your carbs aka the carbs in your food is absorbed much slowly into your blood stream + you don't absorb all the calories of the carbs you ate. For example, if an item contains 10 g carbs and 3 g fibre, net carbs is 7 g so you'll only take in approximately 28 kcal instead of 40. Protein will keep you satiated for longer as well as reducing your cravings
3) A sugar crash happens after a sugar spike. So trying to decrease that sugar spike will in turn help curb your cravings. A way to do this is to get active right after eating- it doesn't have to be intense, a 10-15 minute walk is enough or even doing leg lifts while you're sitting for 10 minutes
4) *Sometimes* I have water with 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar. Ideally it would be before every decent meal but it tastes bad so I dilute it a little bit more (1.5 cup water). "When taken before a high carb meal, vinegar slows the rate of stomach emptying and prevents large blood sugar spikes. It also improves insulin sensitivity, which helps your body move more glucose out of the bloodstream and into your cells, thus lowering blood sugar levels"
5) I wasn't sure if I should mention this since most people might already be doing it, but eating slowly and mindfully helps with it too. There's science behind it I promise XD
6) If you are prone to binging after a period of restriction, do not restrict!! You will only end up eating a lot more during a binge than you would if you ate 1-2 small meals during the day. My advice would be to plan your meals and follow through with it and trust me you will lose more weight than you have while b&p - ing
These are my tips to avoid binging, I hope they help you too 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 Repost so others can find and benefit from it. If you have any more advice/tips please feel free to drop them in the comments ^^ I'd love to hear about what has helped you

🌮🎉 Birria Enchiladas 🎉🌮
Ingredients:
For the Birria:
2 lbs beef chuck roast, cut into chunks
1 large onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups beef broth
2 dried guajillo chiles, stems and seeds removed
2 dried ancho chiles, stems and seeds removed
1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Enchiladas:
12 corn tortillas
2 cups shredded cheese (such as Monterey Jack or cheddar)
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 cup chopped red onion
Lime wedges for serving
Instructions:
Prepare the Birria:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the beef chunks, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Pour in the beef broth.
In a separate saucepan, add the dried guajillo and ancho chiles. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and let them soak for about 15 minutes until they soften.
Transfer the softened chiles, chipotle pepper, apple cider vinegar, cumin, oregano, and paprika to a blender. Blend until smooth.
Pour the blended sauce into the pot with the beef. Season with salt and pepper.
Cover and simmer on low heat for about 3 hours, or until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Assemble the Enchiladas:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave to make them pliable.
Fill each tortilla with shredded birria beef and a sprinkle of cheese. Roll up the tortillas and place them seam-side down in a baking dish.
Pour the remaining birria sauce over the top of the enchiladas. Sprinkle with more cheese.
Bake the Enchiladas:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve:
Garnish the enchiladas with chopped fresh cilantro and red onion.
Serve with lime wedges on the side.
Enjoy your delicious Birria Enchiladas! 🌮💥
