Ok, but this scene… You could see the genuine FEAR in Kirk’s eyes, his realization he cannot control his body. Poor Jim was SA’d multiple times during the show, but this scene made me even more uncomfortable, it is notable by creators focusing on his face.

SA on males is still a topic people do not talk about often enough nowadays, and during many decades male SA in media was either downplayed, or even showed as something desirable or funny. So for me it is interesting to see scenes like this in TOS, where this type of situation was clearly portrayed as disturbing & wrong, and the female abuser was clearly a villain, not just a sexy chic.

Generally TOS is weird about this topic. We have The Enemy Within with some pretty disgusting implications, but we also have The Gamesters of Triskelion where the scene with Uhura was made in such disturbing way I literally had to pause… I didn’t expect it, and Kirk’s hopeless screaming made the scene even worse. But I was happy to see that she was able to fight off the creep. Could tell the episode was written by a woman.

This particular episode showed some interesting female character, where she was clearly an antagonist, morally gray character, although a sympathetic & understandable one, but also a victim of war, and of society - she was clearly as smart as men, why should she rely on drugs to make men listen to her?… Although I wanted to punch her multiple times, she didn’t deserve what she went through, her fate was shown as scary and tragic. This episode is one of the few with a clear bad ending (well, it was a commentary on Vietnam War after all) and where all of the characters (including Nona) make morally ambiguous decisions.

Interesting how TOS is both outdated and ahead of its time.

To debunk the whole, “Dante is a virgin” and “Dante has no idea what sex is” myth, he is not a virgin and knows what sex is.

He is canonically a sexual assault victim and his shop is near a strip club. He 100% knows what sex is, and he is not a virgin. Now knowing that fact that he was assaulted while he was drunk just made me feel extra bad for him, honestly. It also makes the jokes about Dante being a virgin more unfunny to me. I never found Virgin jokes funny at all, because most of the time, it’s making fun of men who are virgins, and because now I know that Dante is a character who is canonically a sexual assault survivor, it makes the “Dante is a virgin” jokes more distasteful.

No, they are not equal levels of evil. Vox is a tech juggernaut, greedy and prideful as hell for sure, definitely some employee abuse but that’s about as bad as it gets. And (since this was an actual argument people used) NO, Vox did not willingly install cameras in Angel’s room for Val to spy through. Vox literally has cameras EVERYWHERE in hell to keep himself completely knowledgeable and on top, so it’s honestly be weird if a room in his own tower didn’t have them. And when it comes to Val having access, Val probably stormed into his room or something and demanded it be done. You think Val would’ve just politely asked?? No, no, Vox could’ve been seriously injured or worse if he didn’t comply. Val literally throws a glass at him simply entering a door (over something he had nothing to do with). That glass could’ve easily damaged or broken his screen and the liquid could’ve caused a short-circuit. Plus, Vox is shown to be cheerful when he thinks Angel has quit, and considering how Val treats Vox, he probably wants Angel to get the hell out of there. He’s a bad guy but he sure as hell isn’t happy about Val’s existence :/

I don’t like comparing characters to real people, but just to explain to those who just cannot get this in their heads and see that their beloved ship is toxic: this is like saying Jeff Bezos and/or Mark Zuckerberg and P Diddy are equally awful people. Do you.. do you see the problem here?!?
