The Long Shift

A brief look into Bill's life working in the shack. (based on the @handymanbill au by @losanpostle and @waty_mot on twitter) (also on ao3!)

The old mop squelched against the older wooden floor as Bill swabbed away. Cleaning up a stain left a careless tourist. The floor that never stays clean for more than a day. Day in day out, The sun rose and fell, tourists entered with full wallets and exited the Mystery shack with lighter pockets but heavier hands. Working in the tourist trap for how long as he had, Bill could recognise returning customers. Higher pitched voices that children shard with their parents. the same terrible taste in outfits and trinkets that that were passed down much like blonde hair or brown eyes. 

He had tried working the crowd. Using his unusual appearance to lean into the persona of being Mr Mystery. But the dullness of the brainless guests wore on him. The hands that passed over his head trying to find the strings pulling him as though Bill Cipher of any being was a puppet. The tedious questions, the ridiculous attractions, when given the chance to return to handy work he couldn't slip on his over-sized green shirt fast enough.

How Stanley had done this job for 30 years stunned Bill to this very day.

The Pines family were averse to him working at the shack at first. In truth so was he. But, seeing that he was powerless, Stanford at the very least was willing to let him remain. The others were harder to sway, of course Bill knew why Ford relented. The shack no longer being his was one reason. Although the triangle doubted that Soos would have had the backbone to argue with the Pines if they told him that Bill could not remain. The true reason that Ford allowed Cipher to remain was because of who placed him in the Shack to rehabilitate.

The Axolotl. 

If arguing with Bill was a waste of time, then arguing against a decree by that pastel salamander was pointless. The obnoxious thing knew even more than Bill did. Much as the triangle was loathe to admit that fact. It had stated that working at this sham of a business would help with his rehabilitation. Bill scoffed at the idea at first, but the idea of finally leaving the dull halls of the theraprisim was a deal he could not refuse. Losing is powers was a great price to pay, but anything was better than dealing with freaks in friendship circles all day.

Of course the arguments about him staying were far behind him, years in fact.

When the Ramirez family drove him out to the Stan twin's funeral Bill didn't know what to do at first. His gut feeling was to laugh, the grand hero of the multiverse, dying of a heart attack before his 'greatest enemy'. But Bill didn't do that. It didn't feel right. The thought of laughing in Ford's cold dead face, while hilarious felt bitter and unsatisfying. When he was in the padded cell in the theraprisim Bill had dreamed of being the cause of these two men's deaths. And while he was not the cause, looking at their peaceful faces in their coffins, Bill only felt hollow.

on the drive back to the shack Bill didn't know why Soos refused to get back to work. The shack felt somber, the usually upbeat couple of soos and melody were quiet. The pair had told bill that they were taking the week off and that he was free to do as he pleased, not even bothering with a warning of staying out of trouble. 

With the whole town as his oyster, Bill could have caused all kind of trouble. Instead he sat in the gift shop, ruminating on the familiar feeling. His mind was drawn back to something that happened eons ago. his first crime. When Soos is Finally able to don the suit, bill is thankful to have work to push his thoughts out of his head.

Even that was many many years ago.

The town out outside the window of the shack has grown much larger, the new populace long ignorant to Bill and his history. The title of 'Mr. Mystery' had been passed down many times. The Pines name is only remembered by the graves outside and the portraits on the walls. Bill is certain that if it wasn't for the heritage of the shack it would have been demolished decades ago.

Bill had seen small blue embers arise from his hands every so often. Part of him wondered if his own power was what kept the shack in place. Generations since his sentence at the shack had been declared, surely some spec of his power would return. If that was not the case then the axolotl must have been keeping his new 'prison' present intact permanently. 

With a sigh through his eye Bill continued to mop. He caught sight of a pair of young children laughing loudly in the other side of the gift shop. The ice blocks in their hands dripped sticky sweet syrup on to the wooden floor. With a sigh he waited for the family to leave before mopping up behind him. The thought of a clean floor carrying him through to the end of the day.

But like, Dipper and Mabel convincing Stan and Ford to go watch the Five Nights at Freddy's movie or play the game with them. And their Gruncles humor them and then Stanley sees the bots come to life and he thinks-

'Huh, I was in a situation like that once.'

And he sees Mike get manhandled and without thinking about it nonchalantly says-

"I fought an animatronic badger once."

Que the kids immediately going-

"Gruncle Stan WHAT???"

While Ford just stares at his twin in dumbfounded horror cuz what the fuck does that mean????? What does his brother mean by this??????

Hey, you know what? The song "Servant of Evil" (Rin/Len/Mothy) strangely started to suit Stan and Ford (Because when people made AMVs it was with Mabel and Dipper, but for our elderly twins, this song fits much better

Yes, we have a twin swap, we have twins who did bad things, Stan defended Ford when they were children… And they were separated (Twice, once after Stan was thrown out by his father, and the second time when Ford fell into the portal)

But seriously, this song suits them better than Mabel and Dipper

And let's face it, Ford is one of the greatest Disney princesses (After Marco Diaz)

When it comes to the old popular Gravity Falls Aus, I only really interacted with Reverse falls and Monster falls (there were other AUs I would see but I don't believe they were popular, plus wasn't much).

Which comes to my thing I need to know, what's up with the Relativity falls au?

I think I saw someone say b4 that it used to just be an age swap between both the pines twins, but now it seems that spread to a multitude of other characters. I've seen it with Pacifica and her father Preston, Fiddleford, even Wendy and her father a bit, Gideon and Bud (less Gideon but I'm assuming he's there yk?). Which also makes me wonder what would happen with Bill in this au, like would his parents take over as the overall big bad or sum? and would he become some strange powerful child who is just hiding out in gravity falls, or maybe waiting to be summoned? The questions are endless lol

Okay, so, I was looking through the transcript of Hana & GF Fan's interview with Alex Hirsch for the Shermie question (because I am weirdly interested in him) and what I'm getting is his purpose is basically just to make the Pines Family Tree make sense in context of the characters and is the baby seen in "A Tale of Two Stans"

That being said, in my mind Shermie is their older sibling, that baby is Shermie's son (or a secret fourth sibling), and she is a trans woman with a lovely wife

A guy consulted me about his relative who was dying. He told me he recently had three dreams, about a cherry tree, a cliff, and falling off a pine tree, and asked me what they meant. I realized it actually meant something terrible would happen, but instead told him it meant there was still hope.

I’ve been imagining another AU, one that starts, unfortunately, with the tragedy of Stanford Pine’s twin brother, Stanley Pines. He hears about his brother’s demise from his mother. Most likely, Stanley died before Stanford arrives in Gravity Falls. That’s just the basic plot for the beginning.

So…I was reviewing Passengers, the one with Jennifer Lawerence and Chris Pratt? I became inspired when I saw the robotic bartender, played by Michael Sheen. And it had me thinking about DBH (aka: Detroit(:)Become Human), the game about AI sentience created by this guy called Kamski. And then I also just thought about Astro Boy and Ex-Machina, too.

You’ll most likely know about the Frankenstein AU for Gravity Falls, right? Kudos to the creators, that’s a lot of really impressive and interesting art.

Well, what if Stanford went about developing an android with the initial intent to revolutionize humanity while in Gravity Falls? During the daytime, he’ll focuses on research of the local ecosystem, while in his pass time he’ll be pouring research theories into blueprints for the robot. And when he gets Fiddleford to help him with his project, the robot is molded into Stanford’s likeness because why not? And, for selfish reasons Stanford will keep to himself, he starts referring to the robot as Stanley. Then, you know, Fiddleford will most likely just assume his partner is becoming narcissistic because he doesn’t know about Stanley yet and that Stanford lost his twin brother.

Is it almost morbidly contrived for Stanford to reshape the android to share the same likeness to his brother from the last time he saw him, which was during his wake?

Then, just when the android finally emerges and his processors are all switched on from an unknown power source, Stanley is awoken once more. He just doesn’t realize that yet.

For a shorter explanation for further plot, Stanford won’t be able to handle being in the same room as the android and Fiddleford will have to assume caretaker to the robot while running tests. Stanford will most likely be feeling guilt because he just brought a dead ringer of his brother back from memory. He’ll feel like he’s disrespected his brother’s memory and can’t handle it because he’ll sometimes forget that the android’s not Stanley. While talking with him, Stanford will unconsciously ask what the robot thinks, only to be met with confusion, then Stanford will look at the android for any signs of familiarity on his face. He forgets sometimes that the android doesn’t share any memories between him and Stan. That really bums Stanford out. The android notices but doesn’t know how to help.

Think of this as an alternate version for Wax Stan, except with robots.

Now, imagine if Bill wanted Stanford to build him a body at first when he finds out about his project, only to be rejected. I don’t know how to carry on more with that. I just became inspired by Avengers(:)Age of Ultron.

Back on my bullshit - I just woke up and I wanna make a GF Monster Bluey AU

What is it with me? I JUST WOKE UP and the thought just appeared.

Anyway, something something the kids visit for summer, something something they get exposed to a blast of Weird Energy after Fidds and Stan mess up while working with the portal and wake up as werewolves. To mix things up, Mabel is freaked out while Dipper is squealing like a little girl seeing her favorite pop star.

Finding out their Grunkle is a Werewolf and his boyfriend is a Vampire is wild enough, now they have to deal with the same situation?!

They talk with Stan and Fidds, manage to get at least somewhat used to it, then get into shenanigans in the shack and the woods.

Ya can't convince me that at least Dipper wouldn't be brave enough to go into town as a Werewolf for fear of being laughed or screamed at, so most of their summer is spent at home, and their wolf (aka excitable puppy) instincts make them want to play with their caregivers as much as possible.

Dipper and Mabel: *Walk up to Stan (Who's Watching TV)*

Stan: What do you want?

Mabel: *With Wide Teary Eyes and a Pout* Why don't you ever want to play with us?

Stan: What?

Dipper: *With the Same Look as Mabel* You're always at work!

Stan: I'm never at work!

Mabel: It's like you don't even love us!

Stan, defensively: You ARE joking, right?

Dipper: How could you not love your own niece and nephew?

Stan: Ugh! Fine, I'll do whatever stupid thing you want me to do.

Dipper and Mabel: *Cheer and Race Off*

Stan, stunned: That was actually really impressive.

Can I ask what the breaking point was in the runaway au? I just discovered it and I love it!

AAA!! okay sorry this took me a few days anon! life happened and then i also had to dig around for the actual answer! it's been a minute since i've touched on the runaways au stuff :3c

i wrote out a HUGE thing and maybe i will work with @deardarlingthings (cause they had SO much to do with what this au is same for all our aus) to write out a whole thing for it (lmk if yall would want that???) BUT the short of it is that during family dinner one night (like whole family. shermie is even there kinda thing) it's brought up that stan was seen with another boy. while stan is taking the abuse, ford finally puts his foot down. can't take it. says some things he regrets in a way and gets backhanded by filbrick.

and that's it. that's all it takes for stan to realize they need to get out. that he won't listen to ford anymore. won't let him convince him to stay. they're going. packing bags and driving off. because he hadn't had proof that ford was getting the same abuse as him. he hadn't seen nor heard of the things ford was enduring. thought he was taking all the hits for his brother. was told that he was. and yet-

so no, they're leaving.

Buck huffed out a sigh, shutting his phone off and throwing it back in his locker. He hadn’t expected Maddie to pick up and yet…

And yet. 

Buck knew she couldn’t be here or send a card, but it would’ve been nice to share his good news with someone. 

“Come on, kid! Family’s waiting.” Bobby called over the balcony, jolting Buck out of his disappointment. He jogged up the steps, stopping short when he saw the whole team waiting. 

“What are you…” Buck trailed off, spotting the table overloaded with all his favorite dishes. 

“Your probationary period is officially over, Firefighter Evan Buckley!” Bobby called out, the entire group cheering.
