Small teaser of my Day 2 Prompt challenge with Pat. Prompt: Camping.

I actually hate camping so I left out any actual camping.

The tent was still dark when Regulus heard the zipper to the joining room of their tent open. Soft little footsteps on the blanketed ground and a moon nightlight illuminating the room revealed a small figure standing in the doorway. Harry. He had told James that four was still too young to go camping. Regulus looked over at James, who was still lying with his face in his pillow, his hair sticking up in its usual dishevelled state, one arm curled around Regulus' waist. James, oblivious to the presence of Harry, continued to snore softly. He didn't have the heart to wake his boyfriend, so he bit his lip before calling out a quiet "Hello?" He's never been the one to take care of Harry when he startles in the night; he hadn't been around long enough to take on such a paternal role. Not to mention he had never been great with feelings or comforting others; Sirius had always understood those things better. He doesn't know how to handle this alone. And for the first time. Harry slowly pokes his head through the open flap, wiping his wet eyes, his glasses abandoned by his sleeping bag. He squints, looking at Regulus, and hesitantly walks over, eyeing his dad's sleeping figure. He looks unsure of what to do next. To be fair, Regulus has no clue either. "What's wrong? Are you okay, Harry?" He whispers, and the boy stares at him with his big green eyes and puffy cheeks. "Did you have another nightmare?" he guesses.

Based on what I know, I do not think Sirius and Regulus were even taught being gay was possible. I think Walburga/Orion refused to teach them it even exists. So I imagine them finding out like this:

Sirius: Yeah, if I was a girl I would probably date Remus to be honest. Such a shame it’s impossible for me to like him.

James: Impossible? What do you mean??

Sirius: Well you can only like people of the opposite gender.. right?

James: …No, you can like people of the same gender, that exists. It’s a thing.

Sirius: ( °ㅁ°)

Sirius: I must tell Reg

Fleamont Potter who makes a plan the day he takes in Sirius Black as his own son in 1975.

Fleamont Potter who waits until James makes Regulus his son-in-law to make a heartwarming “father-of-both-grooms” speech at their wedding reception.

Fleamont Potter who leaves said wedding reception to go find Orion Black in his swanky members-only billiards hall—saying:

“Hello, my name is Fleamont Potter. You abused my kids, Sirius & Regulus. They’re fine now, but the same can’t be said for you.”

& then breaks Orion’s kneecap in with his own pool cue.

Regulus sneaks off to the Potters to give Sirius a secret Christmas gift and gets caught by Sirius and James who convince him to stay a bit longer, and every time Regulus is like, "I have to go" and Sirius is like, "It's Christmas Reg, cmon just a little longer, you can say that I dragged you here against your will or whatever, just stay a little for a bit longer." And Regulus, being loki helpless against his older brother, just agrees. And he begins to bond with everyone.

Eventually, Regulus accidentally stays the rest of the day and when he gets ready to finally leave, Effie is like, "Would you like to stay the night? It's quite late" and Monty just straight up says, "Would you like to stay forever?"

And that's how Regulus ran away. (Accidentally)

Regulus: I’m stretched a little thin today, so I need you to do the grocery shopping, check in on the kids and maybe clean up those branches in the front garden.

James: Done and done!

Regulus: Is that an expression or did you only remember two of the things I said?

James:

James: …The second.

Regulus, sighing: I’ll leave you a message.

James: Okay!

Regulus, ringing James to leave a voicemail:

James, picking up the call: YELLO!

Regulus, shaking his head: …James.

James: Sorry!! Call back!!

Sirius: I don’t know what’s wrong. I just... I look so GOOD!

James: it’s okay, we can sort it out. Just take some of your make up off.

Sirius: I’m not wearing any make up!

James: WHAT?!

Sirius: I don’t know what happened, I just woke up and I looked amazing! And now everyone’s gonna think I got a facial for my mother’s funeral!

Remus, walking in: oh, what the hell, you look incredible.

Sirius: I don’t know what to do with my hair, it just keeps falling in this really chic way!

Lily, walking in: sorry boys, people are starting to arrive. Pads, you don’t have to greet them if you- GOSH, you look GORGEOUS!

When Harry was eleven years old and had just received his invitation to Hogwarts, James had sat him down when Regulus was away. About sex, thought Harry. He knew what it was, he didn't need a lecture about it.

But James began about something way more sirious. He told Harry that in some households, parents were different. That in some households, parents didn't love their children, but were cruel en demanding. That some parents didn't just send their children to their room when they did something wrong, but hurt them. Harry's father knew it was a heavy topic for such a young child, but it was very imporant.

James explained to him what was the best coure of action if he ever suspected someone he knew had troubles at home. How to recognise that. How to be there for them, not even seeking ways to fix it, but to primary just confort them. How that could be the difference for them.

Harry was filled with confusion after the talk and it wasn't until he got older and noticed that Regulus and Sirius never talked about their parents and both had similair looking scars. It was then that he realised how important that topic had been for his father, and how important his father had been for the Black brothers.
