I hate it when people think Bellatrix has hooded grey eyes and straight hair in the books. Some fanart and fanfics incorrectly portray her that way, but I have been seeing plenty of people, most likely those inspired by such fanwork, saying she canonically looks like that. People who hate the movies also latch onto this description, even though it's canonically inaccurate.

Bellatrix's hair was never described as straight in the books yet this is a common misconception I've been seeing since I joined the fandom, just like the misconception that Lucius had short hair in the books. The length of his hair was never described!

Bellatrix's hair was described as sleek and shiny but wavy and curly hair can be sleek and shiny as well lol. She was described as having thick, long, and coarse hair that 'rippled down her back'. Straight hair doesn't ripple even in the wind. It flows or streams, but the word 'rippling' suggests a waving, undulating movement. All book descriptions point to hair that is textured and at least noticeably wavy.

Their plans were made, their preparations complete; in the smallest bedroom a single long, coarse, black hair (plucked from the sweater Hermione had been wearing at Malfoy Manor) lay curled in a small glass phial on the mantelpiece.

She was taller than he was, her long, black hair rippling down her back, her heavily lidded eyes disdainful as they rested upon him; but then she spoke, and he heard Hermione through Bellatrix’s low voice.

She had long, dark hair that looked unkempt and straggly in the picture, though he had seen it sleek, thick, and shining.

As for her eyes, it's not entirely the readers' fault as GoF does describe her as having heavily-hooded eyes but that's clearly a mistake because in every other instance, including Harry's recollection of the Pensieve scene and later in the same chapter, her eyes are described as heavily-lidded. Heavily-lidded eyes are very different from hooded eyes and fit Bellatrix's personality far better.

Bellatrix having grey eyes probably comes from Sirius having grey eyes, but nowhere in the books is it said that all the Blacks have grey eyes. Bellatrix and Sirius are cousins, not siblings, and even siblings can have different eye colours. Case in point: Narcissa with her blue eyes. Bellatrix's eyes were explicitly described as dark in Deathly Hallows.
