Monster romance Rosekiller but not like in a sexy way. It's just weird.

Barty is obviously not human, made up of exposed muscle with parts blackened with rot, and sharp and dirtied teeth stained with dried blood and dirt, he walks on all fours with bloody claws. He towers over Evan, even when he's not standing up. Leftover flesh and yellow fat drip from his mouth from previous victims and leaks from his body. One of Evan's favorite features is the rib bones that forced up through Barty's back, a mockery of angel wings really. And his voice is this deep grumble that makes it hard to hear what he says. He leaves behind a trail of flesh in thick chunks where he goes. All red and fresh. The only sign that could imply his former humanity is the two out of many red eyes that are a glassy blue.

And then there is Evan. A surgeon who knows nothing but the way a body works and how to break it down. Who sits in a rusty, bacteria-infested operating room with the surgical light still on and nothing else, there are still the uncleaned medical tools and dried blood from the previous patient. His gloves have not been changed and there are still clumps of fat on his scrubs. His eyes are multicolored and staring wide at the create outside his window. A bent, contorted beast so beautiful Evan wondered if he was seeing an angel of his own religion.

There is curiosity and deep affection. They wash each other with blood because everything they touch turns red. They find beauty in the disgust that is each other.

The more I'm in the Marauders fandom, the more I'm convinced that Regulus WOULD NOT fuck with the Marauders. He would find them sooooo annoying and clingy <---Regulus is a very clingy younger brother who is not used to sharing Sirius' attention. He gives hella side eyes to James, Remus, and Peter every time he runs into them and his opinion of them is worsened by their treatment of Snape, even though Regulus actively ignores and does not give a single flying fuck about Severus. Regulus is a very traditional person, so Sirius is around/friends with people with more progressive views that actively dispel old-fashioned traditions/ideals, which makes him very agitated and uncomfortable.

This is also why I can't see the Rosier twins being very close with Dorcas and why Bartylus is very interesting to me. The situation with the Pantheon can go three ways to me:

-Dorcas is raised similarly to Reg and the twins and actively goes against the beliefs that she was brought up with (this could also explain why her being personally killed by Voldemort was not met with some high praise unlike Lily "brightest witch of her age" Evans) (I don't really count Alice and frank because they were respected in terms of occupation/position)

-Dorcas is close friends with Barty and only puts up with Reg and the twins to an extent, something like Snape and Lily. This could be a case since a case like Snape and Lily's isn't entirely uncommon, I believe.

-Dorcas thinks that if she hangs around them enough, she could "fix" them/bring them over to the Order's side. Which I don't like this one very much so I don't think this would ever be the case lol. Very unlikely.

It's becoming more interesting for me if Regulus, Evan, and Pandora are their own tight-knight trio of emotionally deprived students with a huge ego and generations of trauma and money while Barty is the overly curious and mama's boy with a playful smile and streak of humor beyond his academics getting pulled into the dirtiness and trauma of war by his daddy issues and Dorcas is the righteous woman with a good head on her shoulders getting pulled along for the ride but getting off when she becomes sick of it.

Sirius never gets to take home the Marauders' map because if Regulus ever gets his hands on it, he will try to burn it.

ok so fundamentally im deeply uninterested in auror characters like alastor moody, kingsley shacklebolt, even tonks to a certain extent because i think hp's portrayal of carceral justice/a police state is one of the least examined and most ethically irresponsible parts of the text. it’s indicative of jkr’s worldview wherein systemic problems are acknowledged but she is unable to actually critique or challenge institutions (preservation and reproduction of the status quo being exactly what one would expect of a rich white terf but i digress). and that's why auror!harry is such a hate crime.

but i'm driving myself insane thinking about how much better these characters would have been if a single auror was handled like javert. this post is for the niche lesmis/marauders fandom overlap sorry. but imagine an alastor moody who has to confront the reality that his entire belief system & career is predicated on the dehumanization of "criminals" as a class. he empathizes with a "criminal" and thus is unable to reconcile with the idea that he has sent human beings to the dementors and erased their souls. maybe he kills himself or retires or otherwise repents or whatever.

just so much more morally consistent sorry. "why do you care so much" well i'm getting a degree in literacy education & challenging the ethical values outlined by children's fiction is hugely important in their development as critical thinkers 🫥. and writing a book series where the incarcerated get their souls erased and this goes largely unexamined is fucking INSANE.

everytime i click the bartylus tag on ao3 and then filter out jegulus and rosekiller i watch a third of the fics disappear and i kind of want to scream a little

the rosier twins both have heterochromia, one eye blue, one eye brown—it’s the opposite eye for each of them, so instead of it going blue brown blue brown when they’re stood next to each other, goes blue brown brown blue. oh, and most importantly, they tell first years they gauged an eye out each and swapped eyes, and have had multiple detentions each year for scaring the first years
