Imagine if instead of working at the tannery, Wylan had held onto his flute and made his living busking in the Barrel.
Which means Jesper comes across him one day and then constantly asks Kaz “don’t you think the Crow Club could use some live music? Something classy. Like I don’t know, a flutist perhaps?”
I might write this

Jesper: If I had a kruge for every time a friend was dramatically revealed to have faked their death and assumed a new name, only to embark on the path of vengeance via an incredibly complex illegal scheme, I would have two kruge.

!!six of crows spoilers!!
Kaz raised a brow. “Ever had your pocket picked, Wylan?”
“I … not that I know of.”
“Been mugged in an alley?”
“No.”
“Hung over the side of a bridge with your head in the canal?”
Wylan blinked. “No, but—”
“Ever been beaten until you can’t walk?”
“No.”
wylan was literally so fucking suspicious at the beginning of SOC like how did no one notice
#by suspicious i dont mean he had malicious intent or anything like that#but really?? no one noticed something a liiiittle bit off about the new guy??#and like no one ever thought 'hey maybe this kid who just happens to be the secret son of a very rich and powerhungry man who#you also basically found withering away in the street#mAAAYYBe he was being abused??'#i cannot believe that everyone just thought he was almost starving and doing crimes to make ends meet because he wanted to be 'cool'#six of crows#shadow and bone#wylan van eck#bishangzoy

man. sometimes i think about the end of soc and about the possibility of jesper leaving. but because he wanted to see this through, because he wanted to right things, because he wanted to see inej again and know she was safe, because he wanted to show his father that perhaps he wasn’t entirely a failure who only did reckless things, because he wanted something more for his friends. he went on
#i think. once inej was saved there really was this sentiment of#do i want to be here. Is this what i want because on god#the end of soc jesper got shown that he was shoved to the bottom of the list in terms of trust and that hurt#sometimes i think about the fact that kaz not only kept the wylan-kuwei thing quiet from jesper but also LET EVERYONE ELSE IN#ON IT#besides jesper. And let jesper go through the emotions of thinking that wylan and nina were dead on that ship. just to punish jesper.#for several cruel moments. He wanted jesper to hurt#like. Imagine ur jesper. and you learn that the guy youve led your life beside#decides to keep you in the dark over a mistake (that you see is a mistake and know is one) but then yknow who he decides to tell#the guy you broke out of prison 2 weeks ago who nearly choked out one of your friends and perhaps a month earlier would have no issue#with hunting you and putting you on trial to burn for something you cant control#its more complex than that but in the heat of the moment. Thats what jesper would be thinking about#if i were jesper!!!!! holy shit i’d be so fucking upset!!!! I’D LEAVE#oughthth lads the soc brainrot is so back

IT PAINS me that Van Eck made Wylan BELIEVED all the hate and mockery and disregard he received from his father were okay, something people would do because of who he is
"I treat you no more harshly than the world will."
but then he meet the dregs, the crows and NO ONE treat him harshly because he can't read, joke's on you Van Eck
And it REALLY pains me that Wylan has a logical brain so how would he not believe that the logic voice of his father IT WASN'T RIGHT?
but it was his logic that haunted Wylan—that practical, irrefutable voice that spoke in Wylan’s head whenever he thought about attempting something new, or trying to learn to read again.
He only knew the biased logic of his father and based on that the world was constructed
And so the first thought Wylan has when he discovers that his father locked his mother in an asylum is THAT WAS HIS FAULT AAAAAAAAAGH I hate Van Eck
“You don’t understand. It was me. I caused this. He wanted a new wife. He wanted an heir. A real heir, not a moron who can barely spell his own name."
But Wylan HAS a logical brain, so when Jesper points out that parents aren't supposed to be like Van Eck and gives him and Mr. Fahey as an example Wylan CAN SEE THE TRUE 😭😭 also he had already talked with the crew about his condition and no one treated him badly because of it, he has other point of view about that, other's than his father's so he can beat what his father made him believe and I'm crying now
Anyways, hurts me when people are led to believe the bad things other people do to them are justified
#my baby boy suffered so much#van eck is evil#and the chapter where all this happened started with Wylan saying his father wasn't evil and ended with him accepting it#accepting that he didn't deserved being treated badly and that his father has to pay#also love how they think Kaz is gonna make him pay the most vengeful sould he had ever encountered#and kaz that has the same logical brain Wylan and van eck has never thought twice about accepting wylan as he was and looking at what he#can do instead of what he can't#this kaz is going to make his father pay#i love this so much#six of crows#crooked kingdom#crooked kingdom spoilers#just me rambling#lady a speaks now*

ive rlly enjoyed jesper's charisma and banter established w/ kaz in s1 it's very clear why he's #mr. brekker's-right-hand-arm-man so what happened in s2!! 😭😭😭
#for the record i still have not watch s2 in its entirety but the parts i did he just seemed goofy. sorry i blame the white twink's arrival#qq#s2 sounded like it had too many characters. wylan should have stayed in the bg and at the end we get his one-night stand w/ jesper#and then kaz approaches him and recruits him. that lil rich boy is such a fan favorite it would have made sense to tease them#with him being more of a cameo than him spouting poetics abt butterflies. sorry i also dont care for this character he's kinda swagless 2 m

reading crooked kingdom rn and i just got to the part where wylan supposedly spills the whole plan to van eck and i just don’t want to believe that kaz didn’t see that coming but also i can see everything lining up for disaster and i’m afraid for inej because i know the white blade dunyasha or whatever is most likely going to intercept her again and i have so much anxiety for the characters and the plot right now i can hardly read
#cries in nervous anticipation#but kaz had to know this would happen right?#but how could he#but remember that jesper said kaz looked like he was getting his way when wylan had his looks returned to him and was standing his ground#against his dad and saying that he was going to stay in kerch after everything was over#so he must have anticipated something#and kaz never shares all of the details of his plans with anyone#that’s what increases the suspense and leaves room for things to unfold differently than anticipated#but also kaz is still only human#just a boy#but he and nina have something planned right#i need to calm down because you know what?#it’s all going to be alright in the end because that’s the kind of book i’m reading THANK GOD#crooked kingdom#nikita reads crooked kingdom

Quote from crooked kingdom (six of crows book #2)
the belief that no matter the odds, somehow they would win.
#In the end he was not Nina or Matthias or Kaz or Inej or Jesper. He was just Wylan Van Eck. He told them everything.#cant wait for the van eck storyline#shadow and bone

s3 king of scars + ice court heist combo PLEASE do you know how much I would scream. if Netflix cancels it I’m going to riot. also not zoya literally saying I COULD FIX HIM
#but literally wtf was that ending#SPOILERS IN TAGS from here#I can’t believe they killed David to make Alina stay on as part of the triumverate#like sure he was going to die soon anyway#but he and genya didn’t get married :( we don’t get his and nikolai’s friendship :(#they just keep pulling random plot points out of order#like inej is hunting down slavers before the crows duology events??#Wylan and Jesper already dating??#and then dominik dying so late and not just being a random grunt with nikolai#I feel like they’re kind of prioritizing popular moments or fun things over why they need to happen in their time#and it’s fine it’s really not that deep#it’s a YA series and a weird Netflix adaptation#but huh#hm. etc.#that being said I will fully be rewatching this season

I hate when Jesper Fahey gets watered down to bisexual comic relief character who's also a huge flirt when this is literally such a small part of his character.
Jesper is as mentally ill, as Kaz, Inej or Wylan!! He has a gambling addiction and ADHD!
His mother died when he was a child and he had to hide his powers, this huge part of himself, because his own father was afraid of him and his powers. Also he had to be afraid because the life of a grisha can be very dangerous!!
Imagine always having the thought in the back of your head that someone could discover your secret and that you end up as a slave or something.
Canonly he sais that he likes shootings because then he doesn't have to think about something else.
Furthermore his life is dangerous. He is addictet to gambling and literally gambles away all his money.
And this makes his life also dangerous, because you know when you have debts there are people who would kill you to get their money from you!
Then there's Kaz who holds a gruge about him, because he made a mistake. Kaz, that one guy who's appreciation Jesper craves the most.
Tbh I think Kaz treats him unfairly sometimes but nobody seems to even care in that fandom.
Also when Colm is in the city imagine the guilt Jesper feels, because of him the farm, his childhood home!!, is in danger.
But also guilt about not being the person his father wants him to be (I'm not saying here that you should live the life your parents want for you, but the one you want).
Imagine Jesper thinking about how he failed his father, he loves so much and the guilt it brings him.
This character is so misunderstood by the fandom that I want to cry.
Why are we talking about Kaz's trauma or Inej's or Wylan's but never about Jesper's?
I don't understand why so many of you just see him as the flirty saucy bi man!!

i love that one of the main messages in six of crows is just that some people don’t deserve forgiveness. kaz dedicates his whole life to destroying pekka rollins, and people may not understand it, but no one tries to change his mind. when he finally tells inej that pekka killed his brother, she responds by telling him that they’ll destroy him for it. inej, the kindest and most mature character, doesn’t believe that powerful men who prey on children deserve mercy. and she has her own demons, too. she handles them a bit better than kaz, but at the end of the day, she dedicates her life to hunting down people like the ones who hurt her. nina and matthias never stop haunting jarl brum. matthias is a country traitor dating the most “unnatural” grisha the world has ever seen. and nina… of course it’s nina who destroys him in the end, tearing him down and then dating his child. because that’s the story that jarl laid out for her. one of his soldiers killed matthias so she uses her second chance at love as her vengeance. even wylan, who believed that he deserved what happened to him, learns to hate his father. if not for himself, than for his mother. “i’m here for her” repeats in his head like a battle cry. he was content on disappearing until he finds marya and decides, “no, jan van eck isn’t going to get his wish. i’m not going anywhere.” and he tears down his father’s reputation and takes his place in the merchant counsel and becomes his father’s greatest nightmare. all this, i guess, to say that there is no perfect victim. and if the only reason you’re still living is out of spite, it’s okay. because at least you’re living
#of course this doesn’t work with jesper#because the only person he couldn’t forgive was himself#grishaverse#six of crows#crooked kingdom#ck#soc#gv#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#nina zenik#matthias helvar#wylan van eck#wylan hendriks#helnik

cannot stop laughing at the thought of kaz brekker going abroad chasing a big payday only to end up embroiled in a civil war in a country he doesn’t give a shit about facing off against shadow monsters and countless other horrors way above his pay grade with essentially a long stick for a weapon
genuinely the trailer is so fucking funny because you have alina flexing her powers and shooting light out of her hands and inej twirling her blades and jesper shooting with deadly precision and wylan with his big flashy explosives and matthias looking jacked in an mma fight and then there’s kaz just wailing on some dudes with his cane and swinging it around like a baseball bat

All of the actors for the Six of Crows storyline are remarkably well cast, but gonna focus on Kit Young for a second because that dude has something so fucking special. There's a subversive joy in his choices as Jesper that just kills me. Like at the end of season one with the line: "Tell me you have a plan. I don't care if it's a lie."
Reading that in your head without having seen his interpretation, the instinct is to go a little ragged, sardonic, exasperated - something to tell us that the character does actually care but just fucking can't deal with this shit right now. But Kit puts a pleading inflection on the line, his Jesper truly wants to be lied to, bringing it around to comedic desperation.
And it's not just with this line delivery, those facial expression reactions he does elevates every scene he's in. My favorite underrated moment is when he gives Wylan a confident wink and thumbs up when they're both getting the shit beat out of them. The juxtaposition of Jesper indicating "this is going exactly according to plan" when it's clearly not brings so much fun to the scene.
But the scene I keep coming back to over and over that I'm blown away by is under the carriage, when Jesper remembers Wylan. I could see so many actors taking those line directions and putting some angst behind them. We know Jesper was hurt when Wylan left in the morning, we know he blocked it out because his ego was bruised and he didn't want to face the pain of it. It would have made perfect sense for the line reading to have an edge to it, any indication of a grudge.
But Kit's face is lit up with nothing but fondness and joy as he remembers. And obviously actors aren't islands, the writers and directors have big influence - and they clearly are in line with a joy-filled Jesper, since the first thing they have Jesper say isn't "and you left me," it's "and you brought me stroopwaffles."
Jesper isn't a clown, but he's allowed to be one when he wants to be, and Kit leans into choosing joy with such effervescence. It only serves to make the dramatic scenes that much more heart wrenching. I hope we get a lot more Crows on screen, but whatever happens I'm excited to follow Kit's career, what a talented dude.
#actors that make my fingers itch to write#kit young#jesper fahey#six of crows#also his social handles are kittheyounger#what a fucking nerd#shadow and bone
