Morning Doodle: “But Zoya also knew that her presence—tart-tongued and sour as it might be—changed the atmosphere in the room, made the conversation seem less a negotiation than a friendly exchange.” (Leigh Bardugo’s King of Scars CH 11)

everytime i think about how tante heleen was killed off in a throwaway sentence in s&b s2 ep 1 it makes my blood boil so badly they really did no justice to inej’s character, trauma, or what she endured with the menagerie

Jesper staring at Wylan:
What is this feeling so sudden and new?
I felt the moment I laid eyes on you
My pulse is rushing…My head is reeling…My face is flushing
What is this feeling? Fervid as a flame
Does it have a name?…
Jesper’s heart: Yeeeeeeeeeees!
Jesper: Loathing!
Jesper’s heart: wait what?
Jesper: Unadulterated loathing!
Jesper’s heart: oh this bitch

THIS is the man, who deserves a second chance. And second second chance. And...
Six of Crows- Chapter 34
The author's favourite villain, who has absolutely nothing in common with any of the men "starring" in Nuremberg trials, and doesn't deserve to die (That would make his killer no better than him.) or suffer (Like a certain super evil revolutionary and VICTIM of the likes of this men.).

So Brum isn't driven by some misguided sense of honour or protectiveness. He's simply a sadist, who found THE perfect job.
And he LITERALLY tells Nina in her face, yet she somehow manages to forget it.
Tumblr media
So why don't you, you spineless cunt? I'm sure there are free spots in other branches of Fjerdan army. Too few chances to torture ordinary soldiers?!
Tumblr media
Good to know at least some of his disgusting stances come from an actual conviction.
Good to know Reichsführer-drüskelle truly believes himself to be a beacon of virtuous asceticism.
Tumblr media
They're not even living creatures for him, merely tools.
Tumblr media
This certainly doesn't remind me of a specific historic figure, who liked to study subhumans purposefully infected by various diseases or try what would happen, if you drop some acid into twins' eyes.
Some light reading on the topic.

Fanatic.
Tumblr media
He's so nonchalant about it!
Just another Tuesday for him.
Tumblr media
That's neither simple killing enemy soldiers as Nina would like us to belive, nor keeping track of high-profile threats to Fjerda, it's SYSTEMATIC ANNIHILATION.
Tumblr media
Two sentences clearly shedding light on the mind of Jarl Brum. As I already pointed out, he enjoys the suffering he causes AND he's more than happy to assume scientific approach to use Grisha, who are less than animals to him.
Remember how Matthias called Grisha less than dogs? I wonder where he got that...

She was not a lynx or a spider or even the Wraith. She was Inej Ghafa, and her future was waiting above. Climb, Inej. (for the @litjoycrate Six of Crows box set)

The Grisha Trilogy 2: Siege and Storm
One of the worst romantic plotlines I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Even if I weren't in the habit of rooting for sexy villains, the heroine's beloved would make me sick.
He's constantly bringing her down, berating her for any signs of life outside of him, gods forbid she'd had any power independent of him. Whenever she is weak, everything is fine because "he will take care of her". As soon as some other guy hangs around her, there will be hell to pay, even though him being practically a whore of Babylon is okay. Tell me about toxic relationships.
That the villain is a manipulative possessive bastard is to be expected, but how can the author keep trying to convince me that he is worse than the imposed 100% endgame, I have no idea.
Otherwise, nothing really happens in the book. At the beginning you have about three chapters, where the Dark Lord forces some kind of shift in the story, and at the end he drops by to pave the path to the throne for the future White Savior a bit, and force Alina to do something. After spending two books in her head, it's no surprise that her escape plan is another suicide attempt, but at least this time it looks cool.
If you're looking for a story about finding yourself, coming of age, or overcoming obstacles, look elsewhere.

note: This is a rough translation of the comment I wrote for my accounts on Czech book databases partly after the first reading, partly after re-read. The first one's here.
