Saw someone saying that Hannibal and Will's relationship is "an elevated version of domestic violence" and that's such a silly interpretation it pissed me off.

Some people seem to think Hannibal is an ordinary love story and not the horror tv show it is. Of course their relationship is toxic, it's not a role model for anyone to follow in real life, it wasn't meant to be, because we are talking about A FUCKING HORROR TV SHOW.

Comparing Will to an abused wife is reducing the character to a poor, innocent baby who was forced into crime by the evil Hannibal. He's much deeper than that. Will is cynical, manipulative, revengeful, and cruel. He felt good killing people, he mutilated the corpse of Randall Tier and played a sadistic game with Chiyoh and her prisoner, and enjoyed doing so. He craves violence, that's why him and Hannibal are attracted to each other, and why they bond so deep so fast. The only difference between them is that Will hides behind the "I was only defending myself" and "he was a bad person" excuses, while Hannibal accepts his nature and doesn't lie to himself. Will was already a potential murderer when Hannibal met him, he only exploited it in order to have someone to understand him and not feel so lonely anymore, that's the whole point.
