Leigh Bardugo said today at an event that all the diverse characters she portrays come naturally at her because the world is diverse. She's not looking for a black character, a disabled one nor a queer one, they are just part of the world so they are part of the worlds she creates. She also said that what is not normal is having a story full of white hetero and abled people, reality is diverse and so are her stories.

When she was explaining this she had to stop a few times because the auditorium kept cheering at her. Hope she felt all the love the audience was trying to show.

I was beyond excited to draw this scene. Normally I get asked to draw romance, but this time it was a...different kind of passion. Something inside Kaz came loose, indeed 💀 It's one of my favourite moments in the book, despite what he just did, because it's when I understood exactly what Inej means to him. It's amazing what we'll forgive in fiction that we couldn't in real life. (commissioned by @litjoycrate for their Six of Crows edition)

Sometimes I randomly remember that Kaz is the only member of the Crows who only speaks one language and for no apparent reason I find that endlessly amusing.

Like, the comedic potential here? Nina and Inej girl talking but as soon as he walks in the room they switch to Ravkan?? Wylan and Nina chatting in Kerch but then switching to Fjerdan when Matthias walks in and suddenly Kaz has completely lost track of the conversation?? Jesper saying something to Kaz in Zemeni that makes Nina howl with laughter, but neither of them will tell him what it was??? It’s so funny to me.

He would also absolutely start learning another language out of sheer spite if they did this, but I think it would be hilarious if he chose Kaelish and tried to use it with Jesper and Jesper would just be like “… I don’t speak Kaelish. I just know a little bit… I can sing in Kaelish, if you want?” and Kaz is so disappointed by this but he can’t show it so he just starts yelling at Nina in Kaelish instead. She corrects his pronunciation and he nearly murders her.

JESPER FAHEY IS NOT JUST A COMIC RELIEF CHARACTER. YES HE MAKES JOKES AND FLIRTS BUT HE IS ALSO A COMPLEX CHARACTER THAT HAS BOTH AN INFLATED SENSE OF SELF AND POOR SELF ESTEEM AND HAS NO IDEA WHAT HIS PURPOSE IS IN LIFE

There’s something just so incredibly heart breaking about the scene where Wylan sees all the paintings his mother had. They all had him in them, a little boy who just needed love. All she wanted during those years in the asylum was her baby and all Wylan needed was someone to give him unconditional love.
