Sysculture is being like "I don't have that much amnesia tbh" at first and then realizing just how bad your amnesia actually is...

As a DID system, our shadows are often apparent in each other. It really is beautiful seeing Bogeyman help Little Spider overcome a fear, more gently and effectively than the rest of us ever could have. I know this wasn't the point, but genuinely- this is how it feels when we accept our Others as our greatest allies. Every face is a wayward self, bent on bringing some peace back to us. It's amazing. -Dryad
You have no idea how much your shadow self loves you.
Your shadow self is the one who gets angry when someone disrespects you.
The one who fights back when someone hurts you.
The one who tells you to leave a partner, a friend, a job that is harming you.
Yes, your higher self cares about your karma, your wisdom, your peace.
But it’s your shadow self who makes sure you are safe, loved, cherished.
So listen to your shadow self. It’s the oldest friend you’ve ever had.

This post is so amazing to read. It's hard explaining what DID is like inside, but this really helps break it down. The current scientific theories of DID point towards all of us having the possibility for it early in life but that most individuals without extreme trauma are able to form a singular "you." Systems like us due to extreme trauma never did so theirs more then one you. And sometimes we continue to split to this day depending on needs, feelings, etc. It makes it complicated with relationships because having to explain that we each feel like a different person though scientifically we know we're not isn't easy. Plus our relationship can shift from extreme closeness to unfamiliarity just based on one swap. The only person in our life who knows all of us is our gf. She's spent a lot of time getting to learn the ins and outs of each of us, for which we deeply appreciate her.

here's ur reminder that being a system is more than just the alters. sometimes we can get so caught up in syscourse we forget this fact but even our symptoms alone create an entirely different experience to endogenic plurality.
so here's a list of symptoms we experience because of this disorder (feel free to add your own!)
dissociation (out of body, disconnected feeling)
dissociation/derealization (the world feels off, feel like you're looking at yourself in 3rd person)
auditory dissociation (the world sounds like you're underwater)
body stiffness (usually due to being triggered, i find my hands clamp into fists)
dissociative seizures (look identical to others as epileptic seizures but instead are caused by distress)
splitting headaches (due to splitting new parts feels like a pressure building up)
migraines (stress related)
sudden memory loss (ive forgotten our body's name, phone password etc)
emotional amnesia (i can remember this event but i have no emotional connection to it)
emotional bleeding (there's someone near me in front and they're really upset so i feel the emotions but don't know the cause)
irritability, overstimulation, distraction that disrupts thinking (all from splitting)
executive dysfunction (too many parts are wanting conflicting tasks to be done)
alice in wonderland syndrome type dissociation (i look at the floor and it starts to move and collapse into itself)
nightmares/night terror (unprocessed trauma that's hidden can still make an appearance - we spent a good 6 years filled with terror every night when we slept)
flashbacks/general ptsd syndrome (randomly crying from triggers usually results in a dissociative seizure)
self doubt (unable to remember our trauma so thus we must be faking /s)
consequences of others actions (taking responsibility for actions committed by the system but not the particular part and making up for it despite emotional amnesia/general amnesia)
PLEASE NOTE!!! I'm not good at English (my first language is autism) so I described these the best way i could!!! apologies if I got any words wrong

we are so ableist about memory. people with good memory take for granted the fact that they can recall as much as they can, and use that to taunt, guilt and threaten people with memory issues. many neurotypes and mental illnesses cause memory lapses. traumatic brain injuries can cause memory lapses. brain cancer can cause memory lapses.
even if your memory is good, it's not right to guilt someone because they can't remember something. trust me, people with memory problems are desperately trying to remember: it's just that we literally can't. it is a very literal "i can't remember".

When someone enters the front room some of us will say "[name] joined the chat", and some of us will say things like "chat, are you seeing this?" Or "someone in chat says [...]" when talking too or about people in the room.
I accidentally did this with a friend of ours today, and asked "oh, [name] joined the chat?" And he didnt even question it. Just agreed.
i love you systems who call your alters "parts"
i love you systems who call your alters "alters"
i love you systems who call your alters "headmates"
i love you systems who call your alters "voices"
i love you systems who call your alters swears
i love you systems who call your alters things that are silly, weird, or normal
dont let anyone tell you what to call them <3
