I currently have two timelines for my New Ancient of Darkness Au

Timeline 1: Bruce is one of the Justice League founders, continues to do his best to hide his increasingly ghostliness with every year and avoiding Justice League Dark because he has heard stories about Constantine. It doesn't matter if Danny finds him hilarious. He's the Justice League's cryptid where his friends just think he's a little shy and Gotham is just like that.

Timeline 2: Bruce lets his anxiety and paranoia get ahold of him, especially with how he's just taken in Dick and Jason, and doesn't join the League. And straight up becomes a cryptid as Batman. Where his children become liminal far faster and the still human part of him feels so guilty while the ghostly part is giddy to have little ghostlings. There are now rumors about some sort of shadow child of Gotham, some sort of clan of creatures that the League will eventually investigate.

Why I love it: This is peak Performer Dick. Smart kid Dick who knows how to make people like him. Hyperactive Dick. And Wet Cat Battinson. Who wouldn't want to see them interact?

Excerpts: "Oh. From the- That is, yes. I'm, uh, I'm Richard's case worker." The boy visibly twitches and she redirects her attention. "Hello, Richard. Are you al- um, How are you feeling?" Alfred almost winces but, instead of withdrawing again or lashing out, Richard does something much, much more distressing. Right in front of Alfred, the boy transforms into someone totally different. His posture shifts, from despondent slackness to a sort of tense hunch, making him look far younger and in much more distress. His expression loses the blankness of shock as his bottom lip wobbles and his eyes well up with big, fat tears. "I wanna go home,” he cries out. “Please, I just wanna go home!" - And Dick is glad that this isn’t their first meeting, because Mister Wayne is painfully, intolerably awkward the whole time. Why I love it: I love that one. I love the way it features Identity Issues. The first story in the series is about Jason and Bruce, and following ones are also about Jason's relationships with Dick, Tim, Steph, and the way those different relationships interact. The Tim and Jason part (in the following stories) in particular goes way deeper than the usual dynamic of resentment for taking Robin / for past violence, and looks at why, now, they might or might not like / understand each other. Each of the batfam members is fucked up in different ways, which I love.

Excerpts: Jason is six years old and sometimes he feels like his dad is two different people in one body. There’s a person in there that loves him and holds him even though he’s too big to be held and makes him breakfast in the morning. And there’s another person in there, too, who thinks Jason is annoying and spoiled and always in the way and a problem. There are signs, is the thing: Jason can figure out who he’s talking to, if he’s quiet enough. It’s about the way the footsteps in the hallway sound, it’s about the label on the bottle in his dad’s hand. Sometimes when Jason enters a room he makes a noise just to see: if he squeaks his shoe and his dad doesn’t notice, it’s his nice dad. If his dad grimaces or glares, it’s the dad that doesn’t like him, and Jason needs to leave. It’s all about knowing who he’s talking to, Jason learns. If he knows who he’s talking to, he can be better about making mistakes.

Why I love it: First, I think it is very good, as a fic specifically. All fics live in the soup of canon and fanon facts we absorbed along the way, and you knowing who the characters are and what happens to them in different iterations informs your understanding of them, but this one does it particularly well. Second. It broke my heart. It talks about trust and intimacy and kid/parent relationships and fear and nostalgy and love and. I love it.

Excerpts: The Manor waited outside the door, exactly like it should be. The hallway was quiet and dark, the darkness tight and full, but not scary. He hadn’t been scared here since those first few months, when this place was only a place. He couldn’t be scared at home, no matter how his head spun and his nerves jumped and jittered.

Official Summary: Dick Grayson, stressed pseudo-parent to a preteen assassin, tries to solve the case of Damian’s Mysterious Wednesday. He never expected it to help him fix his relationship with Tim, too. (… Though only after everything fell apart first.) Eventual fix-it for Dick & Tim’s Red Robin fight, but other rocky relationships - Dick & Jason, Tim & Damian, Damian & Bruce, Dick & Bruce - wow, this family is dysfunctional - might improve too. Eventually. They just have to, y’know, work through All of Their Issues first. XD

Why I love it: The characterization is delightful. Dick tries to hold the world on his shoulders, scrambling to hold everyone together; he's also very much not perfect, and biaised and petty against specific other people. Jason is an antagonistic asshole but he tries. Tim doesn't understand boundaries but means really really well. They love each other very much but they're afraid and they just talk over / through / just to the left of each other. This is a dumpster fire. Also the end notes of each chapter include interesting tidbits about what is canon (with specific runs/issues) which I personally find super interesting.

Excerpts: This is out-of-character: deliberately unprofessional. And it’s definitely deliberate. Dick doesn’t want to second-guess Tim’s first amicable overture in what feels like years. He catches himself doing it anyway. When Tim was fourteen, the faceplant comment might have been spontaneous - just a wry observation, maybe with a quick grin, sharing the joke. But Tim’s older now, and a lot more serious. So this casual remark is actually calculated. So what is this? An attempt to recapture an old camaraderie? Or is Tim covering up a bad mood with a chipper attitude? Or is this another manifestation of Tim’s concern, a test to gauge Dick’s mood? Argh. Or maybe Tim is just being friendly, Grayson.

A Good Place by LemonadeGarden - Damian gets sent back in time to a Batman who's never had a Robin. Very sweet, very fun.

The Rule Stands by Engineerd - After Dick's death, Damian has to deal with a time-displaced ten-year-old Dick Grayson. Love a good Dick and Damian bonding moment, PLUS this gets a happy ending <3

to stay in one place by Jezebunny - Injustice!Universe Nightwing!Damian time-travels/dimension-jumps to a timeline where Dick Grayson is still alive and his counterpart is still Robin. Ugh this is so angsty -- I have an unreasonable amount of love for Injustice Damian

looking for the shapes in the silence by popsunner - In a world where Dick died on the job, Damian falls through a hole in reality where Dick is still alive and finds that some things don't fit the way they used to. SUCH an amazing representation of complex grief -- literally every time I read it, I cry

Steph fics:

time slip by almondrose - A mistake in time leads to six Robins meeting. Honestly, this one is kinda cracky, and only barely qualifies as Steph-centric, but I still like it a lot

and we'll never be the same by almondrose - Steph and Tim go on a road trip to figure out the post-universal-reboot anomalies. This is more of a post timey-wimey-bullshit fic than a real time travel fic, BUT I think it's real cute regardless

Tim fics:

Tractors by lieu42 - Ooh this one is honestly so so fun! In a reimagined universe where DC's heroes operate out of the UK, Red Robin Tim finds himself right back in the year before everything went to hell. He has a duty to get back to his correct timeline so he can find Bruce, but with Bart and Kon still alive, there's a part of him that doesn't want to leave. Literally SO well written and trippy as hell -- this fic deals a lot with addiction, drug use, and grief, so definitely go into it forewarned. TimKon

not for very much longer by CreamOfTomatoSoup - ugh what CAN'T I say about this fic, apart from the fact that it's one of my favorite time loop fics of all time. Post Cult of Dionysus Bernard Dowd finds himself reliving the worst day of his life -- the day Darla got shot. Featuring identity porn, Steph as Robin, Original-Personality!Bernard, the grief of a childhood you can never return to, and the weirdness of having to interact with your significant other when he's currently a sixteen year old who doesn't know he likes dudes. Don't look at the incomplete warning -- it's not abandoned, just a wip, and I legitimately cannot recommend this fic enough. This fic made me read War Games. This fic made me a Darla Aquista stan. This fic made me ship timbern. Please read this fic.

Jason fics:

The View From Jade by lowflyingfruit - Jason Todd accidentally travels back to before Bruce took Dick in. I feel like this is on every time travel rec list, but what can I say: I'm a basic bitch

Two Dead Birds by InsaneTrollLogic - Jason Todd wakes up in the middle of his Mob Boss Era and immediately decides to rewrite his own history. This is very funky fresh of him, just in my personal opinion.

Dick fics:

So It Goes by 60sec400 - Bruce from Dick's Robin era receives a troubling call from Nightwing. Be warned -- this fic is angsty as hell. Implied major character death. Don't look at the incomplete warning -- it's a lie (the author has specified they intended it to work as a oneshot)

In This Or Any Other Universe by wildsofmarch - Dick-as-Batman ends up in Battinson-era Gotham. Again, I think this counts more towards the Dimension Travel pile than the strict Time Travel variety, but I'm still putting it here because I enjoy the hell out of it

a million dreams by CaptainOzone - In the seconds between the trapeze line snapping and their bodies hitting the ground, John and Mary Grayson find themselves transported twenty years into the future. SO GOOD I honestly can't stand it.

I keep thinking about those couple of posts you made about battinson getting adopted by main canon Batman a while back and I’m just thinking how funny it would be if Bruce and the rest of the batfam also meets Adam Wests’ Batman as well as Burt Ward’s Robin as these two are like the only version of Bruce and Dick that don’t have depression and I think it would be funny to see the stark differences between both versions of the characters

Just them looking at each other and being like, “I don’t know what to do with this.”

My notes:

The timeline for Batbale is after the trilogy

The timeline for Batfleck is around the making of Justice League (ZSJL, maybe before Superman) or after the first official meeting of Martian Manhunter with the whole 6 Justice League (Batfleck would be around 45-50 year old)

The timeline for Battinson is him around 30-40 year old

I don't really know actors that much for me to have my own fancast, but— hey... I could use some help, maybe...?

Bart forgets to tell the rest of young justice that he is gay, which may have become a problem when he was caught kissing Phantom on their date

Twitter is convinced Batman is dating Clark Kent, and Bruce Wayne is dating Superman.

Ace(possibly aro) Damian trying his damndest to date and it never going well cause he doesn't know wtf is up with his own head. Him either entering a qpr with someone/s or finding someone else who is ace.

Dani ends up in Bludhaven during June. Dick spots a small, lonely girl staring around in wonder. Things happen, particularly Dad!Dick activates.

Dan and Jason meeting at an Ace support group

Danny meets Battinson at pride, but both as heroes.

Bruce's kids finding him, in a bad disguise, at Pride with a new partner they've never met.

Lawyer!Jazz meets Selina while working for a non-profit firm, and they hit it off.

Wes and Bernard meet at a conspiracy convention.

Halfa Jason au where his ghost form manifests surprisingly feminine.

Dani meets a hot girl at the skatepark. 

It’s Amity’s first pride parade! It goes surprisingly well, but the justice league is called.

Amity's first Pride since the portal, and the ghosts all want to attend

The batkids only learn that Alfred is actually trans when Danny joins the household and Alfred's like “me too.”

Julia Pennyworth brings home her new girlfriend, Jazz Fenton.

Poindexter attends Pride and is finally able to feel accepted.

Katherine Kane and Sam Manson first met at a gala when it was interrupted by a rogue attack and they were the only two that did anything about it.

Tucker is the only one that can solve the Riddler’s questions. His reward is a dinner date.

Tucker goes to Gotham with one mission: get the gay Robin’s autograph. This proves harder than originally thought.

While working with Leslie Thompkins, Jazz meets Harper Row—part time doctor's assistant and part time vigilant.

Dash ends up going to Gotham U. Finally away from his dad's expectations, he lets himself explore the part of himself he had to keep buried. Dick runs into him at a gay bar and decides this obviously out of his depth guy needs support. Eventual Core Strength but only after Dick tries to help set Dash up with a date and realizes he's jealous.

A series of shenanigans where the batfam thinks that Jason is lying about having a boyfriend. Danny is a cryptid who keeps getting pulled away by either ghost king duties or general shenanigans.

Merry Jesus Birth From Cardinal and Mrs. Copia (WC 23,770)

This was my first truly Beta'd fic and I love it so much. It was really my first dive into a short form romance, so it's not a slow burn. It's nice and short sitting at six chapters (and an epilogue). It's even the first fic that I made more than just little random art pieces for. (Chapter 8 on A03 is just a scene still)

Number Two we have:

A Match Made in Hell (WC 24,121)

I love young Primo (Dante in this seeing as it's pre-ascension). Its got lots of good brotherly moments. Childhood friends to lovers with a marriage of convivence vibes at the beginning. I don't use the typical names Primo, Secondo, and Terzo for them as kids.

Under the Spell (WC 12,654, WIP)

Severus Snape x Papa Emeritus I. This came about because the thought of young Severus and young Primo sharing a cigarette sounded hot and I knew if I wanted to see it out there then I would have to do it.

Four:

A Decade Hits Differently (WC 42,670)

I love doing a dimension swap fic. It's lightly spicy in a chapter or two. It's got identity porn. I love it. We got Wayne Family Adventures Bruce Wayne meeting Battinson's husband. I love my boy Asher Austin. It is technically the third part of it's series but I think it can be read alone.

Five:

Ghouls, Bats, and the End of Phil's Patience (WC 8,322, WIP)

Ghost meets Batfam. I mean. Who else would be Jason Todd's favorite band? It's chaotic and I love writing this crack so much. Need I say more.

PFFT. Bruce's cryptid status definitely does grow. And everyone is wildly off with their guesses. There were bets placed and everything.

Pfft, Clark is about to pass out from stress when he sees one of the other Gotham vigilantes try to reach around Batman to steal some food. And Bruce holds it out of reach at first, so he thinks that the kid can’t have it- which makes sense! Deadly! Poison! That no one should be eating! Even the others in the cafeteria look slightly amused!

 And then Batman pulls the manners card and the other vigilante pouts and grumbles and groans and then in the sassiest voice- let’s be honest it’s a Robin’s job to sass Bruce- “May I please have some parental figure who I love?” 

 Everyone freaks out. 

It'd be hilarious if this is how they (the JL) find out about the Gotham vigilantes being family lol. Like, the kids definitely said to their teams that Batman was their dad, but it was like, with the Gotham way of obvious that it sounds like sarcasm.

You're so right, there definitely is stuff for people adjusting. And non-poisoned stuff in the touristy areas. Mostly. Sometimes there's people who get poisoned on purpose if they don't like them lol. Gotham might be a hellhole to Outsiders, but you treat staff right and you won't get murdered.

Randomly just had the idea of a raincoat mermaid tail dress slam into me and I have no clue how that would work lol.

PFFT, imagine having monitor or late night duty with Batman before people knew the Poison fridge was for him. And no one believes you for weeks until he happens to grab his lunch around the time other people were there and witnessed it.

Oh my god, I bet hunting/swimming trips in Gotham are seen as like, not exactly traditional dates, but pretty up there. Though they're very careful not to overhunt and they probably have several fish farms they constantly release fish from.

The kids definitely use swimming excursions to scare passing Atlanteans lol. Gotham Academy has a scoreboard for each class that the kids made and it's far from the only one. The atlanteans have no clue that they are simply scaring them for fun, because those waters are Terrifying and the things in there scream Predator and Uncanny Valley Body Horror to the instinctive part of their brains lol.

You're right Gothamites have stupid poison resistance & the rogues complain about it- Oh my god. Arkham. Do you think they have small pools like, in the cells? Like if someone behaves they get a room with a small floor pool so they can swim or just chill in aquatic form. “Are you kidding? No one goes to Gotham, that place is like,” Aquaman made a motion with his hand, a not-quite grimace on his face. “Like things should not be living in the water, like it should be impossible, and things should be dead, but they aren’t and it’s like, like the equivalent of an undead apocalypse over there!” 

Bruce rolled his eyes behind his cowl, taking a sip of his coffee as the others continued drinking. Socialize, they said, it’ll be fine they said. Well excuse him, but the waters weren’t that bad. Sure there were always dumped bodies, and chemicals from the rogue attacks, but it was far worse at one point.

One thing he’ll always be relieved for is how the… curse (thank you broken statuette back in the beginning of his vigilante career that fused with the other many curses of Gotham) made the people of Gotham actually care about the waters around them. 

Though also, he couldn’t help but thank anything that might be listening for the fact that the curse only interacted with Gotham waters, because losing legs with any risk of a drop of water would be downright annoying. 

“No dude, you don’t understand, no one goes there for a reason! That shit is horrific- someone saw a big thing with bits of rebar stabbed straight through it and still chased after a big alligator-thing!” Oh. Oh that had been him. Oops. Hopefully his kids didn’t find out about this, but they were probably already on the cameras. Dammnit.
