Honestly still annoyed YEARS later that the CW fucked up a perfect opportunity to have a good Green Arrow show complete with proper versions of Oliver Queen, Dinah Lance, Roy Harper, Mia Dearden and Connor Hawke but instead just decided to write a Green Batman show complete with knockoffs of Bruce Wayne, Oracle, Artemis and Red Hood as well as a weird whitewashed Connor Hawke whose fate we have no clue of three years later.

When Oliver Queen was dead, he ended up in the Infinite Realms, where he inadvertently became the mentor to teen ghost hero Phantom. After Ollie came back to life, he made a point of reaching out to Phantom, just in case the kid needed anything.
DCxDP Week prompt: found family
Author's Notes: I've tried to make this accessible as possible to those of you who aren't familiar with the Arrowfam, but here are links to character primers on Oliver Queen, Connor Hawke and Mia Dearden if you want them. If you are familiar with GA comics, then just know that this is set loosely during the 2001 run. And finally, the idea of a hero in the Infinite Realms helping mentor Danny was largely inspired by Blueseabird2's fic Grave Promises. (It's excellent! If you haven't read it, go do that!)
-
"Do you remember it?" Ollie asks, looking at Superman out of the corner of his eye. They're standing in front of Oliver's grave. Always made the right enemies. It's a hell of an epitaph; Ollie wonders who came up with it. Roy or Dinah, probably.
"Remember..." Superman says.
"Being dead."
Supes gives him that same look everyone seems to be giving Ollie these days, like he's not quite sure if Ollie is all there in the head.
"Never mind." Oliver waves a hand. "Just thinking."
-
He does remember it, is the thing. He remembers the endless Infinite Realms, as green as any of Hal's constructs. He remembers the ghosts-- the ones who had originally been alive like him, and the ones that had never lived at all. Humans and aliens and otherdimensional beings, all together in one place. He remembers being in the same costume he'd died in, only color-flipped to red. (That was just wrong. Red was Roy's color, not Ollie's.)
And he remembers Phantom.
He'd met Phantom pretty early on. Time in the Infinite Realms was tricky; it didn't move like time did on Earth. Sometimes it went slower, sometimes faster, sometimes it even seemed to go backwards. So he didn't remember exactly how long he'd been in the Realms before coming across Phantom, but it didn't feel like long.
Phantom had been chasing down some magical artifact when he'd come across Oliver-- or rather, Red Arrow-- who had picked a fight with an asshole ghost way more powerful than him.
Some things never changed. But hey, ghost arrows were pretty nifty.
Phantom had helped him out, and in return Ollie had offered to help Phantom with tracking down the artifact he was looking for. As they talked, it quickly became obvious that Phantom was doing the whole teen hero thing-- and not just in the Realms, but on Earth. He clammed up when Ollie asked too many questions, but it was pretty clear that he didn't have a mentor or anything.
"Do you have the Teen Titans in your world?" Oliver asked, having learned by that point that the Infinite Realms connected every dimension out there.
"Yeah," Phantom had said, looking wary.
"You should talk to them," Oliver said. "It helps to have someone out there on your side, who knows what you're dealing with." The Titans had been good for Roy. Not just friends, although they were that, too, but an extra support system.
But Phantom shook his head. "I can't." And then he'd gone on to describe the Anti-Ecto Acts and the GIW.
Ollie had never exactly been a fan of the government-- too much corruption, too many rich assholes using the system to protect themselves-- but this still managed to surprise him. And while he was pretty sure his own world's Teen Titans wouldn't stand for this kind of thing-- or even the JLA, no matter how badly they sometimes overreached-- he had no way of knowing whether Phantom's Teen Titans were the same ones he knew.
"Tell you what," Ollie said. "Next time you get a chance, track me down and I'll show you a few things. I don't know how much help I'll be with superpowers, but--"
"Really?" Phantom had asked, then surprised Ollie by hugging him.
That was the start of it. They'd tracked down the artifact, Phantom had left the Realms to go back and do his hero thing on Earth, and Oliver was left to second-guess himself until the next time Phantom came around.
Oliver wasn't exactly a perfect mentor. He'd done his best for Roy, but there were so many things he would do differently if he had the chance. But he was better than nothing, which was what Phantom had been working with before.
Phantom didn't need to learn archery; he had superpowers. But Ollie managed to teach him a thing or two about picking your shot and waiting for the right moment. About trusting your instincts and dodging bullets (or ectoblasts).
Phantom was cagey about anything that wasn't hero work, but Oliver managed to glean a few details. He had a couple of living friends who helped him out, he was frequently chased down by ghost hunters, and most of the town he was based in didn't think particularly highly of him. And that was on top of his whole rogue's gallery of villainous ghosts, not to mention the GIW.
"You can't make people like you," Ollie advised him. "Even if you do all the right things. You just have to trust yourself and ignore the public opinion." God knew plenty of people had hated the Green Arrow over the years.
It had been rewarding, in a way Ollie had almost forgotten, watching Phantom grow as a hero. Watching him grow more confident and more skilled-- and Ollie wasn't giving himself credit for all of that, but he'd helped bring those qualities out.
And then, Oliver came back to life.
-
"Where to next?" Roy asks, as they drive out of Central City. Ollie appreciates that Roy is willing to follow his lead on this, even though it's clear Roy thinks he's being ridiculous. Sure, Wally would probably have let Ollie have that old ring of Barry's if he'd asked, just like the JLA would probably have let him have the diamond-tipped arrow. But those things weren't theirs to keep or give in the first place.
"Amity Park, Illinois."
Roy gives him a skeptical look over the top of his sunglasses. "The hell is in Amity Park?" He's bracing himself to hear about some other memorabilia Ollie left behind upon his death, something else that wasn't disposed of the way Ollie had requested. Something else that other people-- even Roy-- think insignificant.
That would be easier to explain than this.
"Maybe nothing," Oliver says. "But I need to be sure."
-
Finding Amity Park in the first place is a task and a half. It's not on the map Roy keeps in his glovebox, and they have to ask directions at multiple gas stations across Illinois before they arrive.
It's immediately clear that they're in the right place. Amity Park is a small city-- barely even a city, really. But the property damage evident on the streets and the buildings is on par with the aftermath of an alien invasion.
Roy slides off his shades. "What on earth..." He glances at Oliver. "Ollie, what is this?"
A green streak shoots across the sky, followed by a white one.
Phantom.
"Follow them!" Ollie points at the ghosts.
By the time they arrive, it's a stand-off. The other ghost has disappeared, but Phantom is hovering twenty feet off the ground, dodging blasts from a couple in brightly colored hazmat suits.
The Fentons. Ollie had heard a few stories about them while he was in the Infinite Realms, though Phantom had been reluctant to talk about them.
"Ollie," Roy says. In his voice, Ollie can hear all the suppressed rage he himself is feeling, watching a child-- a superpowered child, but a child nonetheless-- getting shot at.
"Not yet." Ollie wants to help, but he doesn't want to make things worse by jumping in without thinking. Their help isn't needed in the end; Phantom manages to disappear from sight while the ghost hunters are distracted.
Oliver tells the whole story to Roy over dinner at the local fast food joint.
"Jesus Christ," Roy says.
"So you see why I want to talk to Phantom," Ollie says.
"Aren't you already training two kids already? You gonna add all of this on top?"
"Connor doesn't need training. He could probably teach me a thing or two. And no one is training Mia in anything." Okay, that last part isn't quite true; Oliver knows for a fact that Connor has been giving Mia lessons in archery and hand-to-hand. But as long as she's not trying to put on a costume and fight crime, he'll pretend he doesn't know. Hell, it makes him feel better, knowing that she has a trick or two up her sleeve.
"Phantom can't be much older than she is," Roy says, a hint of judgment in his tone.
"Phantom is already dead," he says. Roy flinches a little. "And he doesn't have a Hal Jordan to bring him back."
They go back to their burgers. It's not until Oliver is crumpling up his wrapper that he speaks again.
"Look," Ollie says. "This is a lot bigger than Phantom. And based on what I know of him, he's not going to want to leave Amity Park. But I want to let him know that someone's got his back."
Roy claps him on the shoulder. "More than just one person."
-
Tracking down Phantom for a conversation is harder than it sounds. Oliver doesn't know how much time he even spends out here, rather than in the Infinite Realms. Not to mention the handy ghost power of invisibility.
He suits up and stakes out a rooftop downtown, with Roy doing the same on the other side of town. He's just getting ready to pack it in for the night and try it again tomorrow when a familiar form materializes next to him.
"Arrow?" Phantom asks.
Oliver smiles. "Hey, kid."
"What-- how-- you're alive?" Phantom sputters a little.
"Am now," Ollie says. "A friend of mine brought me back." He gives a quick overview-- Green Lantern, godlike power, decided what the world was missing was one Oliver Queen.
"I'm going to do what I can about the Anti-Ecto Acts and the GIW," Oliver says. "But if you ever need anything, give me a call. Or just track me down in Star." He hands a slip of paper with his phone number and email on it to Phantom.
"Danny," Phantom says.
"Sorry?"
"My name. It's Danny."
"Oliver." Ollie holds out his hand and Danny shakes it. "Good to meet you, Danny."
-
For a while, he only hears from Danny through irregular emails and the very occasional phone call. Ollie leans on his Justice League acquaintances to help repeal the Anti-Ecto Acts and get rid of the GIW. It's slow going-- much slower than Ollie would like. Too many JL members are advising caution, wanting to find out more about ghosts and how dangerous they might be before they take a stand. Luckily, neither Superman and Wonder Woman were happy about Oliver's news, and hold a lot of sway with the American public. And rather conveniently, a number of reporters have suddenly begun looking into the Anti-Ecto Acts, stirring up public sentiment against them even more than before.
Things are looking good. And then, Danny shows up at the front door of Oliver's brownstone.
Oliver is making himself a sandwich when he hears the knock at the door. Mia (who had finally gotten Ollie to agree to let her be Speedy a few weeks back) is with the Teen Titans for the weekend, and Connor is working at the youth center for most of the day, so there's no one else here to answer the door. Ollie wipes his hands on a kitchen towel, and opens the door.
Ollie doesn't know it's Danny at first. The Danny he met was a ghost, complete with jumpsuit and white hair and superpowers. The kid that shows up at Ollie's front door is a living, breathing kid. He's got pale skin and dark hair and he can't be any older than sixteen. He's a little on the thin side, though given his age, he could just be going through a growth spurt, and the backpack slung over his shoulder is decorated with a NASA patch.
"Ollie?" the kid asks.
"That's me," Ollie says. "What can I do for you?"
"It's Danny. Phantom," he clarifies in a low voice. "From Amity Park."
He can see it, now that he knows to look. The face and build are the same, just color-swapped.
“I need your help,” Danny continues.
The kid looks like he’s about to fall over from exhaustion or stress or both.
Ollie opens the door a little wider. "Come on in. I was just making myself some lunch. You can tell me what's going on."
Danny follows him into the kitchen and takes a seat at the counter. Ollie finishes the sandwiches and slides one over to Danny.
Danny doesn't pick it up at first, busy fidgeting with the sleeves of his hoodie. “I don’t know where to start."
"Well, I gotta say," Oliver says. "You're looking pretty alive for a dead guy. I mean, same could be said for myself, but I told you how that happened."
Danny grimaces. "About that. It's kind of complicated."
Oliver leans against the opposite counter. "Hit me with it."
He already knows it's bad. He was worried about Phantom in the first place; that's why he gave Danny a way to contact him if necessary. Whatever made Danny travel halfway across the country to see him? It can't be good.
"My parents are the Fentons," Danny starts.
Immediately Oliver knows the story is going to be worse than he anticipated. "The ghost hunters. The ones who built the portal." Ollie had heard all about that portal during his sojourn in the Infinite Realms-- some from Phantom, some from other ghosts.
"Yeah. Well, the portal didn't exactly work at first. My friends wanted to see it, and..." Danny shrugs. "It worked better than anyone gave them credit for, it's just that they accidentally put the switch on the inside."
He can see where this story is going. "And you accidentally turned it on."
"Yeah. It killed me, but all the ectoplasm coming through the portal brought me back to life. So I'm only half-dead." Danny finishes up his sandwich but Oliver, who is familiar with the eating habits of superhero teenagers, hands him another one.
"I'm guessing your folks don't know."
"My sister does. My parents don't." Danny fidgets with the sleeves of his hoodie. "That's not important."
It seems a little bit important.
“It don’t know if there’s anything you can do,” Danny adds. “I just… I didn’t know where else to go.”
“You can stay here as long as you need to," Ollie says. There's an extra bedroom that Stanley used as an office, back when this place belonged to him. He'll need to get the junk cleaned out, but it should work for Danny. "But it might help if I had a few more details. Is someone gonna come looking for you-- or for Phantom?"
"I don't think so," Danny says. "Well, the GIW might, but they're not super active outside of Amity Park."
"We'll handle them if they show up." Oliver would love the chance to put a few arrows in them, and he's sure Connor and Mia would feel the same.
There's obviously more to this story than Danny is currently telling him, but Ollie isn't gonna press. Not yet. Long and difficult experience has taught him how badly that usually goes when dealing with teenagers.
Danny finishes up his lunch, and Ollie shows him around, eventually leaving him to hang out in the living room and watch TV. Ollie himself starts packing up the junk in the spare room. Danny might have to sleep on the couch for a day or two, until they get a bed for him to use, but it's an alright couch. Ollie has certainly slept in less comfortable places.
He doesn't realize how much time has passed until he hears Connor call him from downstairs.
"Dad?"
His tone of voice is carefully measured, but it's enough to remind Oliver that Danny is downstairs-- and that he didn't let Connor know about their new guest.
He dashes down the stairs and, sure enough, Connor and Danny are watching each other warily from other sides of the living room. Danny in particular looks like he wants to bolt.
"This is Danny," Oliver says. "He's gonna be staying with us for a while. And Danny, this is my son, Connor. He's the other Green Arrow."
"Nice to meet you," Connor says to Danny. Then, "Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?"
Ollie follows Connor downstairs to the training room in their basement. He has no idea how far Danny's enhanced senses extend outside the Infinite Realms-- or even if they work at all when he's not a ghost-- but Ollie suspects this conversation might not be as private as Connor is hoping.
"Are you sure about this?" Connor asks.
"He doesn't have anywhere else," Ollie says. "What do you want me to do?"
Connor runs his hand over his face. "I don't know. But have you even talked to Mia about this? When did you even meet this kid?"
"It was a sudden development," Ollie says. "So no, I didn't. But I don't think Mia's gonna tell me to send him packing." He knows that's not what Connor is worried about; for all her bravado, Mia is still insecure about many things. "As for how I met him... that's a bit of a story."
"Okay," Connor finally says. "As long as you're sure."
Ollie clasps his shoulder. "I appreciate it."
-
They don't explain anything further to Connor that night, which is probably unfair to him. But Ollie doesn't really want to make Danny explain more than once, and Mia won't be back until the next day.
Danny sleeps on the couch, and in the morning, he helps Ollie and Connor clean out the spare room. Mia shows up a little after noon, having gotten a ride back from one of her powered friends, and finds the three of them eating pizza in the living room.
"You better have saved me some," she says, as she tosses her overnight bag on the floor.
"Didn't your friends feed you?" Ollie asks, but he passes her the box of pepperoni.
Mia takes a slice and perches on the back of the couch, right next to Danny. "Hi! I'm Mia." She gives Danny a look that is probably intended to be flirtatious.
Danny looks a little like a deer in the headlights. "Uh, hi?"
Connor raises an eyebrow at Oliver, and yeah, maybe having a teenage boy staying in the same house as Mia is a bad idea. Then again, he's closer to her age than the guys she usually hits on.
"This is Danny," Oliver says. "Danny, Mia is my other kid. She's also Speedy."
They give Connor and Mia the cliff's notes version on ghosts and the Infinite Realms. Danny knows a lot more than Ollie does about all of it, but he's much worse at explaining. He either gets lost on tangents about inconsequential details, or he assumes they have more baseline knowledge than they do.
"I'm sorry," Mia says. "Can we go back to the part where ghosts exist?"
"We've fought actual demons," Connor says. "How are ghosts harder to believe?"
"Ollie was never a demon," Mia says with a shrug. Then she narrows her eyes at Oliver. "Were you?"
Ollie laughs. "Definitely not."
-
The next week or so is pretty quiet, by their standards. The Green Arrows and Speedy go out and handle low-level crime in the city every night, though Phantom stays in at Ollie's suggestion; if the GIW is looking for him, it's better if he lies low. It's a little worrying how easily he agrees. It had never been that easy to convince him to do anything when they were training in the Infinite Realms.
Mia, who is better with technology than Ollie is, helps Danny send a message to his friends, letting them know he's safe.
"It's better if I don't give them too many details," Danny says. "Anyone who's looking for me will be watching them. All of our devices are encrypted, thanks to Tucker, but I don't want to take any chances."
Danny comes with them to help out at the youth center, even while Ollie tells him that he's welcome to stay home and play video games or whatever. Danny hasn't said anything about it, and so Ollie hasn't either, but Danny doesn't seem to want to be left alone for long.
Oliver wonders if that's because he's worried about himself or about them.
"So, where do your folks think you are?" Ollie asks at one point.
Danny shrugs. "Does it really matter?"
"Well, I'd like to know if I'm likely to be charged with kidnapping." Connor and Mia both shoot him judgmental looks, but it's not like either of them were under any illusions about Ollie's ability to be delicate. "I mean, I can handle it if I am, but I'd like to be prepared."
"I don't think you have to worry about that," Danny says, and that's the subject closed for the moment.
Mia corners Ollie one afternoon at the youth center, while Danny is playing basketball with some of the kids. Danny is losing, badly. Turns out he's incredibly clumsy when he's not using his powers. The kids don't seem to mind, though, and Danny is a pretty good sport about it.
"We're keeping him, right?" Mia asks.
Oliver gives Mia a level look. He hasn't noticed anything beyond some flirting on Mia's side, but that doesn't mean much.
"Not like that," Mia says, rolling her eyes. "I mean, he's cute, but he's kind of dense."
"Funny, I'm pretty sure the same has been said about me," Ollie jokes.
"Whatever he's not telling us... it's got to be pretty bad, right?" Mia says. "But he seems happy here. And we won't let anything happen to him."
There's a lot Oliver could say here: Danny has parents, he has friends, he has a home he obviously misses. By almost every measure, he's far more powerful than Ollie or his kids, and whatever has him scared is quite possibly out of their league. But the truth is, he feels the way Mia does.
"It's up to him," Oliver finally says. "But he's welcome to stay as long as he wants to."
-
Green Arrow and Speedy are crouched on a rooftop, taking aim at a couple of drug dealers, when Connor's voice crackles across the comms.
"I've got eyes on some guys in white suits," he says. "At Fifty-first and Green."
That's halfway across town, though nowhere near the brownstone. If something goes down in the next few minutes, Connor is going to be on his own.
"Don't engage," Ollie says. "We're on our way."
They break up the drug deal and make their way toward Connor, who has been updating them on the GIW's movements the whole while.
"I think they're looking for something," Connor says. "They keep stopping and checking some kind of device-- I think it's a tracker of some kind."
"They're looking for Danny," Mia says.
"How did they even know he's here?" Ollie wonders, but neither Mia nor Connor have any idea. He makes a split-second decision. "Mia, head back home and keep an eye on Danny. Tell him Connor and I are handling it."
Mia is obviously put out by being sent away from the action, but she complies. Oliver catches up with Connor, perching next to him on the edge of a roof. Down on the street, a couple of men dressed all in white exit a white van and wave around a couple of handheld electronic devices. They don't look up, which seems like a mistake from people who ostensibly deal with ghosts. Convenient for the Green Arrows, though.
Trailing the GIW agents is a piece of cake. Their all-white getup makes them clearly visible from a distance, and they seem to rely on their equipment rather than their eyes or ears.
Their apparent incompetence makes Oliver get a little cocky, and that's where things go wrong. He lands on the building closest to the agents, sure that they won't look up and see him-- and he's right.
Unfortunately, their device starts beeping just at that moment, and the two men are suddenly on high alert. Ollie gets the bad feeling that something about him is what set it off. They pull out their guns and look around wildly, until one of the geniuses gets the bright idea to look up. That's when they start shooting wildly at Oliver and Connor.
Their aim isn't great, and whatever kind of energy weapons they're using are only powerful enough to do some superficial damage to the building facade, but Ollie isn't eager to find out how it would feel to get hit by one of those. Fortunately, he and Connor are both much better shots than these guys.
They shoot the weapons out of the agents' hands first, then Ollie puts an arrow through one guy's hand while Connor puts one through the other guy's foot.
For a minute, it seems like it's going to be that easy. Then, three more white vans come peeling down the street and a dozen more agents pour out. Now, it's Oliver and Connor who are pinned down, ducking behind the roof's edge to avoid getting hit by those energy weapons.
Ollie puts an arrow through another guy's shoulder, and is just a smidge too slow getting back out of the way. The energy blast is going to hit him right in the shoulder. He braces to take the hit--
A green shield appears in front of him. The energy blast hits it and dissipates.
For a moment, Ollie thinks it's the work of a Lantern. And then he sees Phantom, a bright white and glowing target hovering above the street.
The GIW agents have completely disregarded Ollie and Connor, and are frantically shooting at Phantom. Phantom is dodging the blasts easily; there's no sign of the clumsiness that he's beset with when he's a normal human. One of the agents gets an arrow through his shoulder, and Ollie spots Mia perched on a roof across the street.
In hindsight, he really should have expected this. Neither of those kids are the type to sit at home when they could be helping instead. Even so, he doesn't like it.
With Danny distracting the agents, it's much easier for Ollie, Connor and Mia to hit them. They may be outnumbered, but the GIW agents are terrible shots. At some point, the agents seem to realize this, too, and flee back into their vans, limping and bleeding, and drive away.
"Follow them?" Connor asks.
"No," Ollie says. "I don't think they're going to try anything else tonight."
The four of them make their way back to the brownstone.
"I told you to stay here with Danny," Ollie tells Mia, once they're inside and putting away their gear.
"Did you really think I was going to listen?" Mia asks.
Ollie runs his hands over his face. "A man can dream."
"Besides," Mia adds, "from where I was standing it seemed like we bailed you two out. Right, Danny?"
With a flash of light, Danny transforms back to his human form. "I'm sorry," he says. "I don't know how they knew I was here."
"I'm not sure they did," Connor says. "They were looking pretty hard for something before they went after the two of us."
"But they were looking for me specifically," Danny says.
Ollie gives Danny a closer look. He's clearly nervous. More than just nervous, he looks like he's on the verge of taking off and running.
"What makes you so sure they're here for you?" Oliver asks. It's not that he doesn't trust Danny's instincts, but he doesn't feel like he's got the whole picture.
Danny leans against the workbench, almost knocking a set of half-finished arrows to the floor. "They've been trying to catch Phantom since the beginning," he says. "I kind of made their lives difficult."
"Good," Connor says, crossing his arms.
"Plus, a lot of Amity Parkers kind of... don't like Phantom? So the GIW heard about what a menace I was, and that didn't help. But then you got Superman and Wonder Woman and all of them to talk about how bad the GIW and Anti-Ecto Acts are, and that helped, and-- I had it handled. "
"So what happened?" Mia asks.
"My parents found out. And I kind of freaked out? And I flew off, and the GIW caught up to me." Danny looks around, takes in their stricken expressions, and hurries to add, "Not for long! But then I headed back home and my parents were telling everyone I was dead. I didn't know what to do, so I came here."
Oliver's head hurts just thinking about this mess. He walks across the room and wraps an arm around Danny. "We'll get this figured out," he promises, though he's not entirely sure how. "First things first. What do you want to do about your parents?"
Mia scowls at him-- she's clearly already formed her opinion on Danny's parents. Ollie can't say he disagrees, but he's made his own share of mistakes in the parenting department. He hopes that the Fentons might be able to come around, if only because Danny clearly loves them.
"The GIW..." Danny begins.
"I've got a few ideas about them." Ollie is a little torn between hunting them down himself, pointing Supes or someone in their direction, or letting it leak to the public that these government lackeys chased a kid halfway across the country. "Do you want to go back to your parents?"
"I don't know," he says. "I miss them, but... I don't know if they'll believe I'm really me. They think all ghosts are evil. But even if they believed me..." He trails off.
"You can stay here," Mia insists. "Right, Ollie?"
"Of course he can." He didn't actually need Mia's prompting for that. "You're welcome to stick around as long as you want, but you should at least stay until we get the GIW shut down."
Danny looks around the room at the three of them. Whatever he sees must reassure him because after a long minute, he nods. "Okay. At least until then."

Hi! So I was into DP years ago, then earlier this year got into Batfam fics, then saw my first DC x DP crossover and just 💥
So now I’m on a new obsession that has me reading every one of your prompts and any stories that come from it and I just had this one flood my brain:
Presumed Alien Danny
So for [insert reason here] Danny has to flea Amity and the living world to stay in the Zone. He’s injured, and therefore forced to use the Fenton Specter Speeder, and flies it into the portal. Only, whether due to a malfunction, Clockwork, or something else, instead of the Ghost Zone, the Speeder gets spat out of a portal in the DC universe.
So, on the other side, the Watchtower gives an alert that an unknown energy is spiking nearby, and then a spaceship/pod looking thing comes flying out of a flash of green. It’s spinning out of control, and headed for a desert on Earth. A team is dispatched, I’m thinking Superman (alien), Green Lantern (alien law enforcement) and Batman (obvious. Kid bait).
So they get there within moments of the crash, find the thing totaled, Superman hears a strange, humming/thrumming accompanied by groans, and he cracks what’s left of it open to see this green-eyed, white-haired kid with very bad injuries and green blood covering what looks like it could have been some kind of space suit. He grabs the kid, gets him out, and Lantern makes a shield that contains the massive explosion that leaves the ship/pod nothing but charred bits lying scattered across the sand.
They get the clearly alien child to the watchtower for medical help, and though they heal very quickly they still need a lot of stitches, mainly because the first set melted and they had to use ones designed for metas with corrosive abilities.
Then, a day or so later, still healing but not in danger, the kid wakes up, stares wide-eyed at the people around him, and exclaims something I a strange language.
Yeah, definitely alien.
Danny wakes up, sees a bunch of weird, costumed people all around him, and tries to ask what the heck is going on. They all stare in confusion. One guys, who’s glowing green but a different shade, had a ring that starts speaking in a different language.
So, I figure, in an alternate dimension, the English language developed differently, so Danny’s English and the DCU’s English aren’t the same. Hence more Misunderstandings.
Also, if Connor is in this, it’s not until after Danny’s been found. 😎
So Danny gets introduced via the Green Guys magic translating ring, finds out they think he’s an alien, thinks he’s still in his world, where the Anti-Ecto Acts are a thing, and goes with it. They introduce him to the younger hero’s his age, and once he’s better they set him up in their base to live, since obviously he can’t stay on the watchtower or blend in. A few weeks in is enough for Danny to get confused by all the differences and look into it, and realize he’s in a new dimension. But he’s already knee-deep in this, so he just doesn’t ever mention it, and just refers to his ‘home planet’ as Amity.
Meanwhile, the alien kid, Danny, seems to be adjusting well, if a bit confused by the strangest things at times. The planet he mentioned as home was listed by the Lantern Corps as one destroyed by a black hole a few days before Danny’s pod showed up, so they avoid asking about the clearly painful and traumatizing experience. Superman, upon learning about the boys skill set, takes him under his wing.
TLDR-
Through a series of misunderstandings and coincidences Danny is premised to be an alien child by the Justice League and taken in as Superman’s apprentice/son. He does not correct this assumption, either ever or until he is outed by something/one else.
homie I am in love with this idea. Presumed Alien Danny makes me so happy.
I will like to add: The not-quite-english that Danny is speaking is akin to old English.

NEVER FUCKING MORE HAS THIS MEME EVER BEEN MORE PREVALENT THAN IN THIS SINGLE SCENARIO
Like, I'm sorry, BUT WHAT IN THE LITERAL GOD DO YOU MEAN "#who needs ‘relevant facts’ anyway"?
Everybody involved with this needs to go read the Dixon run immediately and the Seeing Red storyline from the 2001 run (#69-71)
Au where the Donna/Kyle/Jason team up happens, but Donna and more importantly Kyle never see Jason’s face. Then JayConnor happens and despite immense amounts of evidence to the contrary, Kyle thinks Connor’s new boyfriend is a perfectly normal civilian. Then he finds out Red Hood Jason and Connor’s boyfriend Jason are the same person. Cue freak out of epic proportions while Connor’s just like “you went on a universe hopping trip with my boyfriend and it took you a year to recognize him??”
Love it. On a slightly unrelated note, how do you feel about writing 10k+ word stories? Asking for me.

Reading green arrow 2001 is like. Extremely pivotal moments for every character. The worst writing you’ve ever seen. Incredibly sweet sincere dinahollie. Okay ollie is a cheater now. Crying over an issue with mia dearden. The stupidest retcons in comics history. Absolutely atrocious characterization. Some of the sweetest found family depicted in dc comics ever. Straight up incest. The most silly ass filler villains of all time. Oliver queen legalizes gay marriage. Overt racism and sexism. Mia dearden being your favorite character ever written. Storylines that would make 80s green arrow writers turn over in their graves. Being filled with warmth and happiness because you love ollie queen so much and there he is that’s him that’s who he is!! And now the bad characterization is back. Strong anti-poverty messages that go nowhere. The issue where roy and connor just hang out and talk about what it means to be brothers. Whitewashing. Ollie actually being a good dad. Why is jason todd here this is not your Story jason go Home. Winick why the fuck would you write that WHY. Chili.
#green arrow#dc#oliver queen#arrowfam#mia dearden#roy harper#connor hawke#dinah lance#this is to celebrate me finishing all 75 issues. for good or for ill#it was uhhh.. it was something!#ollie queen I love you more than life judd winick I am in your walls.

An army veteran has been convicted after praying silently outside an abortion clinic for his own unborn son.
Adam Smith-Connor, who was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £9,000, claimed that the verdict had “criminalised thought”.
The army reservist, who served in Afghanistan, was prosecuted for breaching a ban on protests within a legal buffer zone around the clinic in Bournemouth, Dorset.
He claimed that he had the right to silently pray for an unborn son whom he now regrets aborting 24 years ago and that prosecution amounted to “criminalising someone’s beliefs”.
But at Poole magistrates’ court on Wednesday, Judge Orla Austin ruled he had failed to comply with the ban under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
She said that even though he was engaged in silent prayer, his presence within the buffer zone could still have a “detrimental effect” on people attending or working at the clinic.
“He was given the opportunity to leave and chose not to comply with that,” she said.
ADF UK/X
The case comes with the Home Office set to enact legislation that will ban protests, including silent prayer, within 150-metre buffer zones around abortion clinics from the end of October.
Mr Smith-Connor said after the hearing: “When George Orwell wrote 1984, he meant it as a warning, not a guide book. His predictive powers were off by 40 years but apart from that the notion that thought crimes could become established in the British legal system was sadly accurate.
“How can we ask British troops to put their lives at risk defending freedom abroad while fining, arresting and imprisoning people back home for the thought crime of praying? This court has decided even a silent prayer is now a criminal act.”
The BPAS clinic in Bournemouth has been previously targeted by protesters and was made the subject of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in 2022 by the local council.
The order creates an area around the clinic so women visitors and staff members can come and go without being harassed and subjected to verbal abuse by pro-life campaigners.
Mr Smith-Connor, 51, was spotted behind a tree on a green in a public space about 50 metres from the entrance of the BPAS abortion clinic on Nov 24 2022.
Catherine Brookfield, a council officer, approached him, told him he was in breach of the PSPO and asked him to leave.
Mr Smith-Connor, a physiotherapist from Southampton, Hampshire, refused, saying he was expressing his human right to pray and that he was “praying in my mind”.
Ms Brookfield told him that he was within the buffer zone and that “prayer as disapproval” was prohibited by the PSPO. He was issued him with a £100 fixed penalty notice. When he did not pay this, his case went to court for a trial.
Mr Smith-Connor argued in court that no-one was entitled to know the contents of his thoughts.
But in finding him guilty Judge Austin said he was “clearly engaged in prayer”.
“He was capable of being seen, he was engaged in prayer and it would have been perceptible to an observer. He said he would not be looking at anyone so he could not breach their privacy but I find his presence and the circumstances could cause detrimental impact,” she said.
“He was there without a reasonable excuse and it was a breach of the PSPO. The location was important to the defendant but it was open to him to attend Saturday or Sunday, before 7am or after 7pm.”
Christian charity
Mr Smith-Connor was supported by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF UK), a Christian charity. The court heard it covered his legal costs of £29,000 but he would be liable for any prosecution costs.
Jeremiah Igunnubole, legal counsel for ADF UK, said they will be appealing the criminal conviction. He said: “This is a legal turning point of immense proportions. A man has been convicted today because of the content of his thoughts – his prayers to God – on the public streets of England.
“We can hardly sink any lower in our neglect of basic fundamental freedoms of free speech and thought. We will look closely at the judgment and consider an appeal. Human rights are for all people – no matter their view on abortion.”

Hello! Do you have any recommendations for Roy Harper reading? I'm not bothered about which continuity or where, just if you had a suggestion for where you think he's best 👀
If you wanna go back to some older stuff you can check out the silver age green arrow comics and Teen Titans 1966, I'm not the BIGGEST fan of TT 1966 but it does have some cute and funny moments. I mainly read Bronze Age to Modern age so we'll go with that moving forward. Green Lantern(1960) #85-86 This is Snow Birds don't fly and Roy's most iconic story, It introdcues Roy's struggle with heroin and is pretty sympathetic to addicts which was QUITE the big deal at the time. I also think its important for to me say Ollie is not the best parent in this one, he reacts out of anger and is incredibly upset with both Roy and himself for Roy's addiction. OLLIE DOES LOVE ROY AND IS USUALLY QUITE A GOOD PARENT, THIS IS ONE MOMENT THAT DOES NOT DEFINE HIM OR HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ROY. MUST READ not just for Roy but for comic book history in general Action Comics(1939) #32 This one is a small one shot thats post snowbirds. Roy is on his own but it shows that he and Ollie still care about eachother and that Ollie really misses Roy. The New Titans(1984) #20-21 THE REVEAL OF LIAN'S EXISTENCE !!!!! ALSO JADEROY!! also itty bitty robin Jason is in this story. ABSOLUTE MUST READ Action Comics(1938) #613-618 I LOVE THIS STORY I LOVE THIS STORY I LOVE THIS STORY. It hurts me but i love it... Jade and Roy and Lian... It also shows how Roy ended up getting Lian. other than that I will say no more... ABSOLUTE MUST READ Titans(1999) #1-2 Lot's of Cute content with Roy and Lian here. I wouldn't consider it an absolute must read but again its fucking adorable so i recommend it. Titans(1999) #6 Donna Kyle and Roy beat up a Nazi with a tragic backstory or whatever, meanwhile Lian is being babysit by someone her mom has personally affected.
Titans(1999) #8-13 JADEROY!!! JADEROY!!!! LIAN!!!! Deals with the aftermath of the previous rec. Also some DonnaRoy which is admittedly cute. This story kinda covers all the moral complications of Roy and Jade and Lian. How Jade's crimes affect them all, as well as how Roy feels about Jade. I would consider this one a must read. Titans(1999) #21-22 Aftermath of previous rec, Chesire is being held to be tried. I realize a lot of these recs are relate to JadeRoy and Lian but they are so important to his character. If you enjoyed the previous story read this one, but i wouldn't recommend it in a vacuum. Titans(1999) #30 More JadeRoy, I am predictable. This is Jade's trial. If you like the previous two storylines read this. It makes me sad it makes me emo I love Jade so much and she went through so much and it doesnt excuse here actions but it still hurts. Roy makes a decision. Roy appears prominently in The Outsiders but i haven't read it all yet so i can't speak on it. Green Arrow(2001) 1-10 This is an ArrowFam MUST READ. Ollie returns from the dead, mia is introduced, Ollie and Connor, and Ollie reuinites with Roy and Dinah. It's very good. Green Arrow(2001) #16-21 General ArrowFam goodness. Ollie and Roy Goodness. Just,,, emotions.... Ollie is Roy''s dad... I weep...
Justice Leauge of America(2006) #1 Roy and his Uncle Hal :). Also Roy joins the JLA
There's more probably but this list is getting pretty full. These are also all in chronological order so :333. as a sort of anti- recommendation if you want to read an absolutely awful roy that is horrible in every way and want to be mad about it read rhato. its awful!

Who is...Oliver Queen | Green Arrow? - A Reading Guide
Oliver Queen is a hero from DC comics that was first introduced in 1941. Ollie is a character based firmly in the folk hero genre with an unmistakable heavy-handed influence from the Robin Hood mythos. Ollie is best known for being canonically a socialist, befriending assassins and "villains", and for having his most common enemy be the police. He is the father of Roy Harper (Speedy, Arsenal, Red Arrow), Connor Hawke (Green Arrow), Mia Dearden (Speedy), Tim North, and Robert Queen II. He's the older brother of Emiko Queen (Red Arrow). And the long-time partner of Dinah Lance (Black Canary) and Hal Jordan (Green Lantern). Ollie is often at odds with other heroes, which makes his epitaph the most fitting way to sum up his character in that he always makes the right enemies.
A reading list with totally legal links is under the cut!
As always
Origins: these comics deal specifically with Ollie's experience on the island
Green Arrow: Year One Green Arrow: The Wonder Year Green Arrow: Stranded (non-canon but still an AMAZING look at the island)
Select Golden and Silver Age Stories: it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to read these before reading GL/GA and particularly Snowbirds Don't Fly to get full context of the Pre-Snowbirds GA/Speedy dynamic.
More Fun Comics #78, 81-82, 89, 91-92 World’s Finest Comics #7, 57, 70 Adventure Comics #121, 133, 137, 151, 155, 164, 166, 179, 184, 189, 196 Adventure Comics #233 World’s Finest Comics #88 Adventure Comics #246, 256, 260-263 Teen Titans Vol 1 #4, 11, 19-43
Green Lantern/Green Arrow: possibly the most famous stories involving Ollie, GL/GA is a quintessential must-read for the emerald archer! As stated above, PLEASE read the Golden and Silver Age issues before reading GL (1960) #85-86.

I am not including much of N52 because it is bad. And I am not including Rebirth because it should not be included in reading lists that are meant to teach you about the character, it exists to make you question if Ben Percy has read Green Arrow comics after YOU have read the comics he supposedly drew inspiration from.

First Train on the Moon Part 2
Here's part two. It's significantly longer than part 1, but I think it turned out great. I took elements from the science express and beta train rush and even alpha version of Grooves makes an appearance. I hope you liked the second part of your delayed birthday present @nasubeenwithcat
Everything was a blur, people were panicking and freaking out. The passengers were, like him, being lifted into the air by some unseen force. Connor couldn't believe his own eyes when he caught a glimpse of the outside. He saw the rails...which was highly unusual as the train normally obviously ran on those. “Everyone, stay calm! This is probably just a temporary thing!” He hoped so, yet very much doubted it. It was likely the doing of the science owls. As he struggled to get anywhere, now that he was floating basically at the ceiling, he thought that Redd, who normally tended to the science owls...when he actually did his job, might know more. Wait! Redd! He was outside earlier!
With a new found worry that only piled up onto the fear he was already feeling, the black-clad bird pushed himself toward the caboose tearing open the door. “HELP!” The sight he was greeted with made the breath in his lungs hitch. His red-feathered brother was gripping the railing of the caboose tightly, his legs being pulled up as if a harsh wind was coming from right under him.
The yellow owl extended a wing, making sure to stay inside the train cart, grabbing the frame of the door with one talon while reaching his other out to toward Redd. “Redd, grab me wing!” The red owl had gritted his beak as he looked up at his older brother with despair and fear, reaching out one wing to grab the offered wing.
“Connor, am I glad ta see ye!” After missing a few times, due to turbulence, Connor managed to pull Redd into the cart, not without getting dangerously close to slipping off the door frame and being sucked out into the air. “Thanks fer savin' me. I thought I was gonna meet me maker out there. What the peck is goin' on!?”
“I was hopin' ye knew somethin'!” They could still hear the people panicking over in the passenger compartment. Redd was shaking with panic when Connor grabbed him by the shoulders, trying to get him to focus. “Yer the one who's around the science owls fer the most part. Have ye heard anythin', anythin' that can help us figure out what we're dealin' with here?”
After composing himself by taking a few deep breaths, Redd spoke in a shaky and fearful voice. “An anti-gravity device. I-I thought it was hogwash, but...” It all but confirmed the suspicion that the science owls had something to do with it.
“I'm gonna try and see if I can get other there.” Trying to keep a level head in this situation, the yellow owl made his way over to the passenger cart to reach the one that the owls used for their experiments. On his way there, he found Walter as he was passing through. His gaze shifted to him briefly, the relief of seeing his brother safe clear on his face to him only, as he addressed the crowd..
“Stay as calm as you can. We will resolve the issue posthaste. Please make sure to stay away from the windows and find something to hold on to!” Walter tried his best to keep the passengers calm with moderate success while Connor squeezed past him, finding his green feathered brother who obviously wasn't doing too well. Greg was flailing around wildly, nearly slapping the bird that opened the door to the science room with a wing. Telling Greg to calm down when he was panicking like that was a fool's errand. He painfully recalled the day that the yellow clad owl had curled up in a ball, weeping like a chick when the news of their fathers illness reached him. It took him at least a year to recover to the point that he could function again after their pa's passing. He reacted the same after hearing that their fifth sibling, Alfred, had gone missing after spending some time in Subcon Forest. His cooking was sorely missed, just as much as his optimistic attitude.
“Hang in there, Greg. I'll find out what's goin' on.” He could only see the unbridled fear and pure terror in the green bird's eyes. Connor couldn't even imagine just what kind of horror scenarios were torturing the mind of his younger brother. All he got as an answer was a quiet whimper and a nod.
As soon as he reached the room. He saw the science owls high fiving each other and cheering as they floated in the air. “Success!” One of them yelled, raising a fist in the air triumphantly. “After years of persistent failures, our unyielding resolve finally bore fruit!” As he got closer, he could make out the same device that the owls were working on when he walked through the compartment around an hour ago. So this was the culprit for the mass hysteria that was now plaguing their train.
Even though burst of anger were not a common thing with him, he now felt his blood boil. Not only did they endanger the other passengers, but they also caused more stress to his brothers. But the thing that angered him the most is that they did to the train, the same train that his father had spent years to build, the very same one that his father had taught them how to operate and run, the only thing that the old owl had left them after his death. The train, his home, was now floating around in midair. “Hey, ye peck necks, get us back down ta the ground! Yer scarin' the passengers and yer messin' with a family heirloom here!” The sheer volume and rage in his voice made the science owls flinch and turn their heads toward him, looking like deer caught in headlights. “Get us back ta the ground, NOW!”
If the sudden flip in personality from kind and easy going to rage-filled and imposing wasn't going to make the owls shiver, it was the fact that he looked looked like he was going to tear them to shreds with his own talons. “Uh...yeah...about that. We didn't build in a way to reverse the effects.” For a moment Connor just stared at them like they were from another planet, the sheer incompetence of the normally intelligent lab-coat-wearing birds was leaving him speechless.
“What! Ye mean ta tell me that ye build a strange thingamajig that is able ta break the laws of physics by makin' a train float, yet ye didnae think of a way ta stop it again?!” He balled his talons to fists, trying hard to regain his composure. “Any way ye can get us back down?”
“One of the owl, clearly the one science owl that couldn't read the tension in room, spoke up.”We're not just going to switch it off, now that we managed a breakthrough! We're advancing birdkind at a rapid pace and you're trying to make us quit now?!” Some of the other science owls were trying hard to make the agitated science owl stop talking after seeing that the train conductor they were arguing with was starting to lose the shred of composure that he had worked hard to retain.
“TO PECK WITH SCIENCE!”
Kicking the device was undoubtedly a bad decision as the moment he did so, it started to go into some kind of overdrive, flinging him and the science owls to the ceiling, slamming him against it and make him and the owls yell out in pain as they got briefly felt like their bones were going to snap. He could see everything spin briefly as a moment later they were flung around violently before everything stopped and he fell to the the left wall of the train which had now become it's ground.
Everything ached, he felt like his whole body was broken as he groaned and tried to keep the unconsciousness at bay. He was more or less able to, sitting up and blinking until his vision returned back to normal. He looked around, the science owls were out cold and the equipment they had that wasn't mounted to the floor was either broken or dented. He was lucky that none of it hit him as they got whiled around. He froze when he took a glance out the now shattered windows, they landed in some sort of city, yet it wasn't one he was familiar with. Groaning again as he forced his body into cooperation, he got to his feet and went to check on the other carts. He noticed Greg, whose had was bleeding from a slight cut, together with Redd and Walter who were tending to Greg and the passengers respectively. “How's Greg, Redd?”
Redd looked up at him, feeling relieved after seeing Connor in one piece. “That cut isnae to bad, it knocked him out cold though. Hope he still remembers us once he comes to.” Redd gave a solemn chuckle, trying to ease the fear with some humor.
“Everyone who's hurt, please move to the left side of the train while those of ye who are fine go to the right.” Walter instructed the people, holding his injured left wing, ignoring the pain that spread through it like a wildfire every time he moved it. “Connor, good ta see ye, can ye help me check on the passengers?” Connor nodded, starting with the mother of the small boy he helped earlier who was trying to be brave by telling her that they'd be okay.
After everyone was more or less cared for after Redd got the first aid kit, the three brothers who weren't currently blacked out ventured outside the train. As Redd took in the bright lights and neon signs, gaping in awe and letting out a stunned 'Wow', Walter's gaze was transfixed on their train, contrasting his brother's excited and awestruck expression with one of deep sorrow. “Would ye look at this place, this is the bomb!” Redd walked off, leaving Connor who shared his white-feathered brother's sentiment.
“We'll try ta fix it, Walt. As long as the engines are nae too busted up, we can repair her.” Connor put a wing on his brother's shoulder causing the slightly older owl to flinch and hiss. “We better get ye patched up.”
“This is a disaster, Connor. This is our livelihood, never even mind the last remaining memory of our pa.” He took Walter back past the exiting passengers who looked around, trying to figure out where they had stranded. He helped his found that Walter had dislocated his shoulder, so he did his best to put it back in its socket without causing the other too much pain. The loud yelp the eldest brother let out woke up Greg who more or less jolted and sat up straight before immediately bringing a wing to his head as the injury he sustained in the crash stung.
“What...What happened? All I remember is everythin' spinnin'. Am I dead? Are we all dead!? Oh no! Is that city outside purgatory?! Oh nononono! I donnae wanna be dead! I never managed ta find me a lovin' wife!” The green bird put his head in his wings, shaking which caused both relief and sympathy to wash over the other two. At least Greg was still his old self...his very easily frightened and anxiety-ridden self.
Connor went over to Greg, checking him over. “Yer nae dead, feather brain.” He gave a relieved chuckle which wasn't returned, but caused Greg to look up at his brother. “We're all alive, Walter, Redd, ye and I. We ran inta some trouble with a strange thingamajig that the science owls created, caused the whole train ta float and land in some strange city. Redd went ta explore it.” Greg tried to take all that information in, nodding along yet clearly too overwhelmed to understand all of that at once.
“First things first, we have ta assess the damage done ta the engines.” As Walter said 'damage' Greg looked around for the first time, nearly screaming at the sight that greeted him.
“The whole train's destroyed! How did this happen?!” Connor put a wing on Gregs shoulder, trying to stop his younger brother from spiraling yet again.
“One thing at a time, Greggy. We'll fix 'er up.” The assurance seemed to help somewhat as the green bird calmed down a bit, but was still very much out of it. “We cannae expect Greg ta just recover from the shock. I gotta say even I'm feelin' rather exhausted and I'm achin', so are ye, Walt.”
The white owl wanted to argue, but one look at his brothers made his words get stuck in his throat and he instead took a deep breath to clear his mind. “Alright...We'll find some place ta stay fer a few days. Tomorrow we'll figure out how ta repair the train.”
“A'ight. I'll go and look 'round fer a bit, figure out where we are and where the peck Redd went ta.” Walter nodded and helped the still rather upset-looking Greg out of the train.
Connor looked at the literal train wreck one more time, thinking on how ta fix this mess before he started to walk down the streets. He soon found that wherever this place was, it looked more modern when the cities he knew. Fancy cars were running down the street, bright neon signs lit up the tall buildings, and the smell of food from restaurants and fast food joints entered his nose. All he knew were rundown streets with many holes in them, old wooden buildings, and the most that was done for advertising were fliers and billboards. He felt horribly out of place, especially since the residents of that city were glaring at him like he was some kind of circus attraction. Said residents appeared to be penguins, those were rare, so it was strange to see so many in one place, in fact, the whole city appeared to be full with them. The train must have crashed in a rare penguin city. “Excuse me, uh...where exactly are we?” He decided to ask the friendliest looking penguin he could find who looked at him like he just asked the dumbest question ever.
“You're on the moon, dude. Do you come from a different planet or something?” The moon! How the peck did they end up on the moon?! Connor only managed to mumble a quiet 'thanks' before he walked on, walking into an alley briefly.
“How the peck did we get here? How are we going to get home?” Noticing that he was panicking just as bad as Greg, he calmed himself. At least no one was seriously harmed and he now knew where exactly he was...even if he would have rather been somewhere on the planet. He walked back to the street, he still had a brown clothed brother to find. He had an inkling where he was as soon as the bright neon signs of a club pierced his retina.
The train was normally quite loud, but this place was ear-deafening. Loud music everywhere that had a loud and strong bass and instruments he didn't even recognize. Connor looked around past the many dancing and half-drunk guests, he found his brother sitting on one of the stools near the bar. “Redd, what the peck are you doing here? We gotta figure out a way ta get home and yer getting' wasted?” The look of absolute annoyance and irritation didn't bother the red owl who started at him with unfocused eyes.
“Ah, good ta see ye me dear brother. This place 's mighty fine, aye?” Between the loud music and the heavy slurring of the word, Connor could hardly understand a word that his brother was saying. “Have one o' these foamy drinks, they're just the best.” Redd looked like he was struggling to even remain seated at this point. How many of those weird colorful drinks did he have?
Connor pulled Redd to his feet and had to catch him before he fell on his face. “There's no time fer this nonsense, yer gonna come back with me. Walter and Greg are worried about ye.” Some of the more sober patrons of the club were turning their heads at them, watching Connor drag his brother toward the exit.
The red feathered bird was having none of this. “I'm nae comin' I wanna stay 'ere. I like this place, the train's borin'.” Redd flailed around hitting his older brother in the face with his talons balled to fists. Not expecting this, the yellow bird stumbled back, holding his beak where the more or less unwanted attack hit him.
The black suit wearing conductor reached out a talon. “That's just the alcohol speakin'. Ye love the train same we do!” The hand he tried to put on his younger sibling was pushed away as soon as it made contact.
“Yer speakin' nonsesen! It's not the same anymore!” He was slurring his words more, but aside from the anger and the clear haze in the eyes of his brother was something that looked more like sadness and anger. A sadness that Connor wrongly attributed to his brother's longing for a different life away from the train. It angered him to see Redd, who was always lacking off and hardly helping, now dismissing his whole family. Connor had always supported him, same went for Greg and Walter, even if both of them showed their support differently. Greg tried despite struggling with his anxiety and Walter was harsh because he cared about Redd and wanted him to do better. It ended up in a small fight, the patrons watching the two brothers fight each other, punching and shoving each other.
“I hate that train! It's bad now!” the younger brother yelled as he slammed his older sibling against the counter of the bar.
The other grit his beak and kicked the legs away from under him, using his drunken state to his advantage. “Why are ye like this! We're all tryin' ta support ye, yet all ye do is make life harder fer us!” Neither bird noticed that someone was approaching them. “Ye slack off all the time, ye never do yer work! All ye ever do is complain!” Connor was panting, stopping now that the anger left his body somewhat after informing Redd about his shortcomings.
A loud and booming female voice behind him caused him to turn around. “What's going on over here, darlings? This club has a serious 'no fighting' policy.” It was one of those penguins, but that one was a lot taller than the others. They wore a red jacket and had shades in the shape of stars. Even among the club-goers in their fancy clothing, this penguin stood out like a sore thumb.
Connor flinched a bit under their gaze, not sure how to respond...he did just start a fight in the middle of an establishment, clearly not one of his finest moments. “Uh...ye see, I was just 'ere ta pick up me brother Redd. We have some business ta attend ta.” He still wasn't sure about the gender of that penguin, they looked masculine, but spoke in a more feminine voice.
“What business, darling? Could you be one of those strange birds that crashed into the bank in the center of the city? A bit obvious and on the nose for a bank robbery, no?” Even though the penguin chuckled, Connor wasn't quite sure if it was a joke or not.
Normally he was more confident and not afraid of others, unlike Greg, but being the center of attention and stared down by a large group of unfamiliar birds caused even him to feel a lump in his throat. “We just wanna get back home, none o' us mean any harm.”
“I donnae wanna go home!” Redd butted in with his own comment.
“Not now, Redd!” The yellow owl shot him a glare before looking back at the group of penguins.
They started to whisper among each other and some nodded while others frowned. The tall penguin speaking again caused his to flinch a bit. “We on the moon are always happy to help others, as long as you don't start any trouble. Do I have your word that you will not mess up our beautiful city, darlings? I have enough work on my flippers being a celebrity, you know.” The penuins around the red-jacket wearing teal-colored bird cheered and called out a name 'DJ Grooves!' it was like they were chanting it while the apparent DJ smiled and waved a hand. While Redd, drunk as he was, also started cheering, nearly tripping over his own feet, Connor was far less impressed. Not only was that penguin eccentric, but also rather full of themselves. At least they offered their help, the sooner they could leave the moon, the better.
After returning to the train, he found Walter waiting for Redd and him. He seemed to have calmed down significantly, sporting his regular cold expression instead of one of uncertainty and worry. “Good to see you back.” His sharp gaze fell on Redd. “So, I take it our dear youngest brother went fer a drink while all hell broke loose over here?” Connor just nodded, still a bit angry at Redd.
“How's Greg?” As soon as he asked the question he could hear the sound of a wrench tightening a bolt. “Already working, eh?” Walter nodded. “I got a wee bit o' help from the locals, they're gonna help us get back home.”
Walter sighed in relief at the news. “That's the best news I heard all day. It'll take a while, but we'll make it. I made sure that the passengers are safe and cared fer in the hotels. Those science owls will pay fer all the damage, I made sure o' that.” Walter's gaze hardened which caused Redd to laugh out, nearly doubling over.
“Hahaha! They got a scolding from ol' Walt! I'm sure they got so scared they wet their feathers!”
Connor sighed. “This'll be a long week, eh?”

Was wondering who's your favourite Jason Todd writer. (Maybe least favourite too)
Oooh this is a tough one! In part because I'm not entirely sure who to count as a Jason Todd writer, and in another part because I'm trying to pick someone other than Winick bc saying it's him feels too obvious lmao
The joke answer is Bruce Jones, because I genuinely adore Nightwing: Brothers In Blood, though I uhhh- look I GET why other people do not xD
But really maybe I should just bite the bullet and say it's Judd Winick. I do love what he did with the character and I can say with confidence that I'm not just listing him cause of Under the Red Hood. Seeing Red in Green Arrow (2001) is like my favorite comic run ever. Jason's appearance in Outsiders (2003) is great. Streets Run Red in B&R was solid. Lost Days remains my favorite interpretation of the time after he came back, despite the fact that I have some criticisms.
That being said, I do think I mildly prefer him in an anti-hero role rather than Winick's sympathetic villain who can sometimes be reasoned with, and I quite like what Rosenburg has been doing with him.
It feels like Rosenburg has a really solid idea in his head of who Jason is and why/how he clashes with the other bats. I enjoyed The Man Who Stopped Laughing way more than I thought I would. Taskforce Z has definite merits. Gotham War was a complete clusterfuck and horribly organized, but I do think I see what he was going for there and was interested even though it clashed badly with what the other writers were doing.
So yeah, I guess that's my answer. Rosenburg is my fav modern Jason writer so far and Winick remains the heavyweight champion of Jason writing overall.
My least favorite on the other hand isn't any of the usual suspects (Starlin, Morrison, and Lobdell)
Starlin seemed to want to write vicious, seedy thrillers about realistic serial killers and the worst that humanity has to offer and was instead stuck writing Batman and Robin lmao. Should he have just found other employment instead, or knuckled down and written to the tone of the material at hand? Probably! However, putting Batman and Robin in a world that was patently unfit for their type of heroics was interesting to read for me, and frankly, most of what I love about Jason wouldn't exist without it.
Morrison was certainly unfavorable to Jason, but using Jason and Dick as opposing ideas of what it means to be Batman is honestly really cool, and idk I think if you can get passed the aesthetics this version of him works.
Lobdell... might actually just be bad at writing entirely? But! Lobdell has a lot of good ideas and can write something that's fun. There are several more competently put together stories that I can't say the same of.
So yeah, it's none of them, because Cavan Scott was the one who wrote the worst rendition of Jason I've ever had the misfortune to read.
Even mother fucking Battle for the Cowl did a better job with Jason! Just by giving him character motivations and a reason to be in the plot! Titans United Jason is a complete asshole to everyone around him despite having reasons not to be. Like, not even for no reason! For negative three reasons!! There are many different roles he could have taken in this comic that would have been interesting, but instead he is "thug who insults Connor Kent and is generally useless and incompetent".
Though to be fair to him, Titans United was a tie in for a TV show that has very, very different histories for all of the characters involved. It was basically a commercial and as far as I can tell this author wasn't involved in the show or any of the characters outside of this one comic. It might honestly be unfair to call him a Jason Todd writer at all.
And if we don't count little one offs like that then... yeah I don't really know who my least favorite would be *shrug*
Anyhow I feel like I've rambled more than long enough, hope this was an interesting read and thank you thank you for sending the ask :3 !
