A tiresome question by this point, but the anti clowns still pose it, over and over again, because their reading comprehension skills are nichts so gut. Their understanding of the characters, alas, are even less so. Let’s go, om nom nom

Found My Sexism Post-It

Twilight “fans” not being sexist pricks—Mission: Impossible. We have literally thousands of words on Bella’s thoughts and feelings, so fuck off with this misogyny.

True enough, can’t beat the logic there!

Anyhoo, apropos to nothing, Mr. Darcy was not really in love with Elizabeth. How so, you may ask? He thought she was plain and basic the first time he met her. And as we all know, the first impression you have of someone is always the correct and lasting one!!!! You can’t change your mind about a person ever, even if you get to know them!!!

Except that Edward does deduce Bella’s thoughts and attitudes correctly 80-90% of the time. We have Twilight as proof of that.

The only misunderstandings arise due to Edward’s self-loathing and insecurities and/or Bella’s—he takes a long time to consider the possibility that Bella is attracted to him, because he considers himself a monster. But when he does, he reacts like this:

“And yet…I remembered those fantasies that used to repulse me, but remembered them with Bella in Jessica’s place.

I was breathing more quickly, the fire clawing up and down my throat.” (p. 143).

Clowns: Edward would be REPULSED by Bella thinking he is hot!!1!!1

Edward: 🥵

(Also, it must be said that Bella never has graphic fantasies about Edward. Even her dreams are very PG. Even if she did, and if Edward heard…well, suffice to say both Twilight and Midnight Sun would have been 200 pages shorter because Bella and Edward would 100% have done a Romeo and Juliet and eloped.)

Here is the whole mushroom ravioli passage. In context, Bella is asking Edward some questions about how he found her in Port Angeles.

“Next,” he said.

“But that’s the easiest one,” I objected.

“Next,” he repeated.

I looked down, frustrated. I unrolled my silverware, picked up my fork, and carefully speared a ravioli. I put it in my mouth slowly, still looking down, chewing as I thought. The mushrooms were good. (p. 172).

So Meyer was burying the lede here by describing Bella’s outward actions instead of her deliberation. This was because she wanted some dramatic tension to reveal the grand twist—that Bella has figured out that Edward can read minds.

So if Edward could read her mind, he would glean that she knows about his mind reading and deduce that she knows much more. The mushroom ravioli is literally a stray thought he would immediately disregard. At worst, he’d wonder about the appeal of human food, because it all seriously looks yucky to him.

(i'm not kidding. the entirety of the first two books is just both of them saying how interesting the other is. it's suffocating.)

Another medicated Andrew! And black haired Neil!

The two first books hold such bangers, and clearly not enough people ramble about them. I'm a sucker for the relationship they have afterwards obviously, but even before that they're hilarious. Many underrated scenes that could be worth drawing.

Also I underestimated how Neil dress and presents himself - like: he wears oversized, worn out and faded, preferably light-colored clothes; messy curlyish hair with bangs; sports hoodies; JORTS-

... He's got a banger style actually.
